Anyone who doubts Wilt Chamberlain's greatness should count how often that gets said. And they should note the number of times a stat is quoted incorrectly, such has "Hakeem has the most blocks in NBA history" without the word "official".

My favorite stat line from Wilt's magical year was his 78 point/43 rebound game.
That's a 3 game total for a star player and he did it in one game. 🤣. That's obscene.
I just did the math. 26 ppg and 14.3 rpg would be the average for 3 GAMES to get that total. Wilt was a man among boys.

Chris Paul 08 season where he averaged 21.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 11.6 apg and 2.7 spg on a 57.6% true shooting percentage with a 56-26 record. He was doing this at just 22 years old.

The PF was hella deep. With all those guys balling out during 2000’s. I don’t think Kobe was more impactful on his teams during that era and he certainly didn’t drive them to succeed more then those guys. He also was never the best player.

Kobe Lakers won more games Kobe was better on defense. Lakers were number 1 in the west. Had gasol for half a season and Bynum for half a season. Got to the finals too
Kobe averaging 35+ ppg in the mid 00's is like Harden averaging 40+ in today's era. The pace was so much slower back then and nowhere near the 3pt attempts compared to present day. I remember watching Kobe that season, it was clear he was now the best player in the league.
Agree. But considering the amount of threes shot today, I'd say Kobe's 35 ppg is closer to someone averaging 45-50 ppg today.

@@triptychlux Kobe averaged 35 ppg in a lowest scoring season, when teams averaged only 97 points. And when today team scores below 100 points it is guaranteed loss in 98% of cases. In other words, Kobe scored about 37% of points of his team that year... Yes, 50 ppg is probably too wild, but I needed to put emphasis somehow 🤣

Russell only won the award because players were jealous of Wilt's dominance. It is like when Rose was given the MVP because everyone was pissed at LeBron for "The Decision." Wilt should have won 9 straight MVPs.

Steph Curry 20-21 season was insane he average 32ppg and have ridiculous performances but lack of team success.

He should of won MVP that year over Jokic. He averaged 32/6/6 on almost 40/50/90 with frankly a horrible team with a bunch of G league players. He had the warriors in the 6th seed with 8 games remaining. He missed those 8 games and the warriors went 1-7 and fell Into the Play IN

1964 Wilt, the perfect balance between Scoring(1962), Passing (1967) and Defending Wilt (1972). A terror on the defensive end, wilt was also dominant on the offensive end, although reduced his shot selection and opted for a more balanced game. Went to the finals and lost to Russell’s Celtics.
I always heard that wilt was just a ball hog until 1967 and then started chasing assists after that so this is an interesting take

Wilt was so unfortunate to be playing when he did. No blocks were recorded, no DPOY award yet, and he was basically trapped on his team losing to Bill Russell's stacked Celtics each year.

Jordan actually averaged 34.98ppg,which they round up to 35ppg. That's why he didn't mention Jordan. Although,in the end of the day,34.98 and 35 over a whole season is pretty much the same. Not to mention Jordan should've been in the 1st defensive team in 86-87,when he averaged 37.1ppg

Night in night out Raja Bell, Iguodala and others where putting in more defensive work at the 2 guard spot in 2005-2006 then kobe who was going nuclear every night on offense, sure maybe you could say a max Kobe defensive effort was better but you can't really commit that hard defensively while carrying your teams offense so hard especially as a guard btw technically Kobe and Jason Kidd tied for the 1st team all defensive guard spot. I would argue night-to-night Kirk Hinrich(who was defending most teams 2 Guards while Ben Gordon was mostly taking the Point guard defensive assignment, Wade, Stephen Jackson and I would even argue Rip Hamilton was close to kobe night in night out even tho Tayson Prince would always draw the tougher defensive assignment and Bruce Bowen was probably the best perimeter defender until lebron over took that title IMO in 2007

You are right about Kobe defensively though. Kobe did not put that kind of effort into the defensive side of the ball. He should not of been winning defensive team awards after the 2003.
Also Tony Allan was emerging is the best defensive gaurd in the league around 05-06 season. But i do agree with Bruce Bowen, he was a stud defensively and players like Bruce and Tony should be the people winning those awards.

2 quadruple-double seasons you mean? He had 11 bpg for his career, there's no seasons in which he had less than 10 ppg and less than 10 rpg.

Useless fact about wilt chamberlain:
So, we all know that in February 2nd, 1968 wilt had the first 20 20 20 game in NBA history, with 22 points, 25 rebounds and 21 assists, what many people don't know is that, one month later, wilt was 1 ASSIST away of having ANOTHER 20 20 20 game, in that game he had 22 points, 27 rebounds and 19 assists.

I think the Kareem snub was the worst. His team still won 60 games that season and he was by far the best player in the league that year. Don't care about voter fatigue, he should have def won the MVP that season.

You could easily do a video of just MJ's great non-MVP years of '87, '89, '90, '93, '97. He was the best scorer all those years and basically the best defender at his position while playing almost every game. '87 was Magic's year because of Showtime and team success; '89 was because the league was in denial of how great Mike really was; '93 they gave it to Chuck because the Bull had a hiccup in the regular season and only won 54 games; '97 was pure robbery to the point where they gave MJ the '98 MVP just to make up for '97.
U could basically say every non laker year by wilt deserved an Mvp because it’s a regular season award and he is by far the greatest regular season player of all time with no competition

I definitely think Michael Jordan’s 1988-89 season should be number 1. But I can forgive giving it to Wilt considering his monstrous numbers, even if it was in the early 60s. I always struggle deciding between MJ’s 1988-89 and 1987-88 seasons, about which one is the best single season in NBA history. Either way, one of those two are definitely number 1 for me and the other is number 2. And in my opinion, MJ should’ve been league MVP almost every full season he played for the Bulls. I give him 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93 and 96. I even take away his 98 MVP though. Going by statistics and more objective measurements, he should have 8 season MVP awards, with 7 consecutive MVPs. Best basketball player of all time for me, no doubt about it, nobody else is even close.🙌🏼

Chamberlain never receives the credit he’s due. The man would’ve destroyed the competition in any era, but if he was only born 10 years later, there would be no discussion about who was the GOAT of basketball, because we’d have tapes of almost every game he played.

@@JonathanPaspula his stats were inflated due to his era, he had way more possessions per game and the pace was way faster so he got the ball a lot more than people in any other era. He also played every minute of the game so he got more time than other people to put up those stats and in the playoffs his stats took a drop

Wilt Chamberlain's 61-62 season was not only the greatest non-MVP regular season in NBA history, it was the greatest season by an NBA player in both the regular/post-season and the greatest single season performance by a professional athlete in any sport. It's important to note that in that time period, NBA players voted for the league MVP, not basketball writers. Chamberlain was voted by basketball writers as the leagues 1st Team All-NBA center and Bill Russell as the leagues 2nd Team All-NBA center, but the players voted for Russell over Chamberlain as the league MVP. My guess is that the players who voted for Russell either focused on the Celtics TEAM winning more games or they were healing their egos after being embarrassed by the Big Dipper. Jonny covered all of Wilt's insane numbers and the Warriors winning a then team record 49 games, but in the 62 playoffs, Wilt continued to play incredible basketball.
In 12 playoff games, Chamberlain averaged 35.0 points, 26.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. In the deciding Game 5 of the 62 East playoffs, Wilt put up the greatest single game playoff stat line in NBA history. The following stat line came at the expense of 3 time all-star center Johnny "Red" Kerr...56 points, 35 rebounds, 1 assist, and 12 blocked shots. In the East Finals, the loaded Celtics were favored to win in 4 or 5 games, but Chamberlain battled league MVP Bill Russell to the final seconds of Game 7. In Game 7, Wilt blocked 14 shots and scored the Warriors last 5 points to tie the game at 107, but Sam Jones, not the league MVP, won the game with a jump shot at the buzzer. Considering the competition, this was arguably Russell's finest playoff series, yet Chamberlain also had an outstanding series on both ends of the floor...Russell 22.0 points, 25.8 rebounds, .398 from the field...Chamberlain 33.6 points, 26.8 rebounds, .468 from the field.
The MVP races between MJ, Bird, & Magic during the '87 & '88 seasons were the greatest, imo.

It's a complete joke that Giannis won the 2019 MVP over Harden. Other years at least had viable debates.
@@thsu8 Giannis team had a better record, he was great on offense and extremely dominant on defense, something you can never say about Harden. Giannis def deserved that award. Maybe the NBA needs an offensive player of the year award like the NFL. They already have a defensive player of the year award.

This is cool concept. A video for same thing but with DPOY would be cool. Looking back at footage and season numbers I don't know how Hakeem doesn't have 5-6 DPOY awards. Not just his consistent blocks and steals but consistently holding his man to lower fg% and stats that aren't on the sheet like deflections, disruptions or shot alterations. Growing up playing handball came in handy lol
I have a crazy Wilt theory for you Jonny
From the 112 games that he has blocks recorded, he averaged 8.8 blocks, but this was OLD Wilt
Meaning that in his prime he couldve averaged more. Also, in the 66-67 season with Philly, he dedicated himself more to team play and defense, meaning that he couldve easily averaged over 10 blocks that season, thus being just 1.4 APG shy of averaging a quadruple double.

2018 lebron was a monster. The first time he’s been truly “alone” since 2010 cavs, with all that talent and knowledge of the game through all those playoffs run he was on another league compared to everyone that year.

Absolutely 2020-21 Steph Curry Should be in the top 10 list! From productivity viewpoint. this season was better than his unanonimous MVP season and to adding that he gained his full confidence after after have an injury season. it is the best non MVP season since 2005-06 Kobe Bryant it could be arguably to be an exception for winning MVP without have a dominant team winning record.

Great list. I think you could argue that Jordan’s ‘90 season might be greater than 89’. He was a more complete scorer(made the 3 part of his repertoire), just as productive everywhere else. Most importantly, he carried that team to the 2nd best record in the east(55W). Many of those were close games against rivals that the Bulls had no business winning if MJ wasn’t a monster or his late game heroics. This includes a 69/18/6 game and more..
Any of those years tbh. The late 80s and early 90s MJ is by FAR the highest peak of a player ever. Scoring playmaking and defending at an all time level 🐐

Bird’s 88 season was MONSTROUS 🔥
Kobe's one of my favorite players of all time. But I think CP3 should have won the MVP award in 2008. Chris Paul had significantly higher PER, Win Shares, Offensive & Defensive Rating, and Plus/Minus. His assist-to-turnover ratio was insane. 11.6 APG with only 2.5 TO. Not to mention the Hornets won 56 games (2nd seed in the WC) with David West being the team's second best player. If Kobe had already won an MVP award prior that season, I'm pretty sure they would have given the award to CP3.
Kobe was the mvp. Better on both ends also gasol and byum were injured. Gasol was traded to Lakers and only played 27 games. Cp3 had a good team and supporting cast. David west wasn't a bum also their defense

Love your videos, but I think you should start looking into using true shooting and relative true shooting (true shooting compared to the league average that year) to look at how efficient someone was as a scorer for a specific season
FG add(FG points added) and TS add(TS points added) do that. It is an adjusted shooting analytic. It's based upon volume and efficiency. The higher the score, the more efficien relative to the "average" player that year. It's a valid stat, but no one mentions it for obvious reasons.

The top 3 seasons are crazy..How did Jordan Not get MVP on 32-8-8 2stl? How did Wilt not get MVP on 50-25-5?
Because some voters, unlike you, are smart enough to recognize stat padding.
To be fair, Magic, MJ, and Bird (whom during a 9 year span each won 3 MVPs) had at least 2 cases during those years in which they were "robbed" on MVP.
The video isn't necessarily about being robbed of an MVP, but being a great non-MVP season.

I don't know man Barkley had a monster year in 93. As good as Jordan was every year, you take Barkley off that suns team and they're a 4-5 seed at best. Chuck was more valuable to his team that year.

If this is just based on the regular season which he said it is since the MVP award is based on the regular season, then KG's 2002-03 season definitely should have made this list. His best teammates that season were Wally Szczerbiak, Rasho Nesterovic, Troy Hudson and Anthony Peeler... His best teammate Szczerbiak missed 30 games yet KG still led the T-Wolves to a 51-31 record. That is INCREDIBLE! He led that poor roster to that record while averaging...

1993-94 David Robinson had a career year he led the NBA in scoring averaging 29.8 PPG. He also led in Win Shares with 20, led in Win Shares/48 with .296. also NBA high 11.4 VORP & 30.7 PER. He came in 2nd, won MVP the next year with slightly lower numbers.

Harden deserved that mvp over Giannis, Giannis had a better record because his team didn't have injured teammates other than Brogdon. Harden was starting Isiah Hartenstein who just came over from the rgv vipers G-league. He lost CP3, Gerald Green, Eric Gordon, lost House to contract issues and he was sent to the G-league, lost Clint Capela. And was able to tie the record for 3rd in the west. Giannis' season was great but he didn't have the load Harden had to deal with. MVP IS ALL NARRATIVES and Giannis just had the better one due to him being a golden boy of the NBA like Curry for example. I love Giannis and I loved his finals run but Harden deserved! that MVP
Yeah no. Mvp is not about narrative and individual stats. It’s about having most impact on their teams success. Also Giannis dominated on both sides of the floor and was way more efficient and impressive than harden

Magic Johnson 1981-2 campaign was very tumultuous but after the fallout from getting Westphal canned Magic went on to have a legendary season. His regular season was all around brilliance with roughly 19ppg, 9.5 rebounds 9.5 assists. Not only that he found found a way to contribute on the defensive side of the ball by leading the NBA in steals. Not only was he effective playing the passing lanes but he could guard 4 positions and Johnson was also the key to the Lakers nifty new half court trap with 6-8 height.
More or less the man averaged a triple double and league the league in steals.
i dont put his 8th place in mvp race in the same category of what is being talked about here.. now if you were talking bird who was 2nd i would get it but this isn't really a yr where you can argue against the winner moses...
Even though Harden had 5+ turnovers a game that season his stats are actually unreal

Though requirements for percentage of games played were reduced after the 2013 season. So while team scoring was down in 2006, individual scoring was up. Still, Kobe was the statistical MVP that season.
Steph 2020-2021 season was phenomenal. Even if the record was bad the individual performance by Curry was almost identical to his unanimous mvp season.
I believe it ended up better than his unanimous MVP season.
