Yeah... FF5 is perfect for those kind of videos due to it's stat mechanics and how early you can unlock all the jobs I mean... Unless BB is crazy enough to try doing that kind of challenge in other "job-based" FF games like 1, 3, or... 10-2

Who would have thought that the job that's all about powerfull multitarget attacks would have the easiest Neo Exdeath fight and the easiest time dealing with random encounters. It was quite satisfying seeing Neo Exdeath bieng absolutely bullied by Summoners after all the greif he caused some of the other jobs.
And the random encounters usually take 80% of a playthrough - whether because you’re journeying through or farming them - so being able to breeze through those at the cost of some bosses being slightly harder than usual is a blessing
I think the Summoner benefits heavily from having most of its power gated behind optional content. From Shiva all the way to the battle with Bahamut it feels like the developers were heavily conscious of "we have to make these summon spells good or the casual player would be disappointed with the extra hoops we're forcing them to jump through to get them". From the perspective of a casual player - particularly way back in the 90's where a lot of these things could be missed without a game guide - filling out the Summons spell list would be a notable accomplishment. So making them kind of busted is more palatable, much like Knights of Round in FFVII can be permitted to be absolutely broken if you consider how hard they are to get if you aren't aware of them.

If there weren't some game-breaking spells out there the idea of going out of your way to collect them - without a guide at least - may've killed all interest in the job. The developers were clever enough to put some strong Blue Magic spells early on the main scenario path (like Aqua Breath) to get players interested. All Beast Master really did that was meta-impactful was empower Blue Mage at the end of the day.

Probably trying to see what works with the job and what doesn’t (why is probably why all subsequent blue mages in the series get so much attack magic)
-Quite nice how many summons help you defeat later summons. Definitely one of the very best jobs overall. Powerful, versatile with great offense and defense, not very complicated, and encourages doing side content. -It's fun to paralyze Titan with Remora just before you kill him, can skip his deathquake that way. -No holy water at CED, now that's a mistake someone who has done 17 or so runs shouldn't make...Summoner just destroying too hard I guess -The Leviathan kill is even easier breaking thunder rods while wearing hermes sandals, over before a tidal wave can even come out. -Sadly PR Odin randomly picks one of his two attacks without any regard for if the enemies are heavy or not, so he's less useful than in other versions :( -Hali's summon counter sounds physical, but it's magic so Golem can't stop it. -Twin Tania is weak to water, so Leviathan beats Bahamut there and against a lot of rift enemies that have the same weakness. No big deal, but I like to use Catoblepas and stone its weak form instead for a faster kill. -All 4 party members dodging Almagest with probably about 30% magic evade on each person works out to a bit
It's been interesting how you change juust enough about the plot points that it doesn't get boring! Even after hearing it literally what, 15 times so far I still laugh at the jokes for the Atomos fight!
Like Blue Mage the Summoner job it really nuts if you're able to put in the extra leg work in. Though Summoner is much more user friendly as you can just crush everything with overwhelming damage and block attacks. You don't need to know as much inside knowledge to make Summoner work, besides a few hiccups, as long as you know where to get the summons and how to best them in battle.
I would love to see that! Though the grinding required to start the game with later jobs would definitely turn random encounters into battles to the death.
@@Anaklusmos42 Sounds about right. White Mage will be the most tedious but they have a lot of sustain that Thief simply doesn't. And Chemist... Mix is kind of a consistently broken ability in any FF it's in, so I predict it'll be one of the higher level clears solely as a side effect of grinding for item drops to use with that command. Plus, there's also the ability to actually use the stat-buffing drinks, and he'll even have one of each to work with as soon as he unlocks Chemist because looks like Archaeoaevis drops them all in PR

I wouldn't be blame anyone for needing a restful run after inevitable grinding sanity and overall misery that both Thief and White Mage single-job runs will cause.

The PR did a lot of sweeping rebalances to each game, usually to make the early game easier and reduce grinding. You sure as fuck can’t fight her with front row mages in the OG, that’s for sure

Is that viable? The 3D version has job and melee proficiencies, but I still ended up with Ninjas and Sages in the final dungeon. Does the PR give early classes even more staying power?
@@Jikkuryuu no. In general, the late game jobs are a direct upgrade of the early game ones. Even in challenge runs like White Mage only run, they allow the use of the Devout because the game stops giving you spells and equipment for the white mage.

Call is actually super useful for mp conservation for the longer dungeons. I think Summoners are great to master and use the abilities as a secondary, but that's just me.
Funny that this video just went up. I've been a big fan of this series and wanted to try one you hadn't done yet so I picked summoners. I played it on the SNES version so it may be different in the PR, but I found out that Halicarnassus didn't counter if I used Conjure/Call instead. No idea why that was but I thought it would be interesting to point out.
Yep, it's thanks to the Backlogs that I picked up the 6 remasters recently. Started and finished 5, but totally forgot to grab Shiva before the 'no return' point. You can also fight 'black flames' on one of the islands southwest of Crescent Island, the one with the forest so you can park the Black Chocobo. Just stay on the beach/ plains for the flames. Makes it easier to level grind post-fireship.
With this treasure I summon! Also on your thief run don't forget to steal twinlances from Objet d'arts in Bal. Thieves can use those and while it's a rare steal theyre easily the best weapon for all of world 2
Mr. Buster, are you planning on doing single job challenges in any of the other final fantasy games? I think this format woukd work with several of the others, and the way you present this format is super enjoyable.
Any plans to do x-2? In NG+ you can use unlocked jobs, sell all equipment and throw away that Gil bribing, but I don’t think you can remove unlocked garment grids so that would take some note keeping
Call is one of those abilities that I’ve wanted to build around for the longest time. Someday I’ll do a run where I skip every summon besides Ifrit, Titan and Phoenix so I have a 1/3 chance to cast the latter for free every turn.

I remember when i first played this game, I didn't understand the carbuncle boss fight but i accidentally clicked catoblepas and he immediately died and i spent the rest of the game thinking that demon's eye has a 100% success against enemies with reflect
Oh boy these remaining jobs are sure gonna be interesting. Alchemist at least shouldn't be hard as long as you're using a guide, which don't feel bad at all for using cause that job might as well be nonsense without it.
Ah Thief next, Chicken Knife spam and Hi-potion chucking is incoming. After that there are three easy ones and then what will probably be by far the worst run (White Mage). Nothing but lowly flails until the Forest of Moore and then no real damage until post Fork Tower. Sure the challenge is doable but it is going to be so slow. I'm guessing it will easily take the record for longest run.
I think it's funny that you never used pheonix because it dosent cast rise she cast Arise on the whole party also double cast from red mage works for summons on pixel remaster

Oh boy these remaining jobs are sure gonna be interesting. Alchemist at least shouldn't be hard as long as you're using a guide, which don't feel bad at all for using cause that job might as well be nonsense without it.

After that there are three easy ones and then what will probably be by far the worst run (White Mage). Nothing but lowly flails until the Forest of Moore and then no real damage until post Fork Tower. Sure the challenge is doable but it is going to be so slow. I'm guessing it will easily take the record for longest run.

I think it's funny that you never used pheonix because it dosent cast rise she cast Arise on the whole party also double cast from red mage works for summons on pixel remaster

I ALWAYS skip as many early summons as possible to make the pool for !call better- but then I never use it.

It's Apanda that has the Ifrit interaction
Byblos does mention Ifrit by name if you kill him with the summon, but that's it.

Its so wild to me that you have never bothered with summoner. Its easily one of my favorite jobs, but then again. My first ff was 10 and my favorite ff character is yuna who is a summoner, soooo yup.😂😂😂

@BacklogBuster i guess i was under the impression that summoner was kind of just universally acknowledged as one of the good classes, but i guess i also wouldn't be the best judge of that since ff5 is one of the games in the series i know least about😂😂😂. Which is exactly why i am really enjoying this series, its teaching me a lot.
