It's so sad to see how much more his mental and physical state have deteriorated since you first interviewed him. His family seems so nice and my heart breaks for them.
This is so far by a landslide the best video he has done. He was more aware. More engaged. He has lost weight but still I think he looks fairly good. The voices didn’t bother him as much as the previous videos did. I hope he does connect with his dad. The problem is he can agree and then minutes later disagree. I wish he and his family well.
I didn't even recognize him. That is how much he has deteriorated from 2 years ago, since his last interview. His head-scratching & nose-picking were so distracting. So sad...such drastic change from his first interview. I hope he gets help...whether it's an agency on skid row...or if he allows his Dad back into his life...he definitely needs some sort of support. & Most importantly...to get back onto his meds & off the street drugs.
That’s the risk you take when you live in an American society. It’s a psychological prison only some can handle
@@hipsonsogbo 🎯 It's good to see someone intelligent enough to realize that.
"The type of voices heard by people who suffer from schizophrenia depends on where they live..clinical studies show that people who have auditory hallucinations in Africa and India describe them as positive requests from family members or spirits, But most Americans say they hear violent torturous, and hateful yelling from strangers"
"I don't have schizophrenia." Oh boy, it hurts.
My heart goes out to him. I lost my precious son to this horrible condition.

@@BigJellyFish227 Weed might actually literally create schizophrenia if started at a young age and huge amounts
It's hard to see how badly this guy is suffering. I wish we had a better way to help but I know it's a complicated reality all the way around. Thanks for shining a light here, Mark.
No money to help these American people with problems it’s all getting sent to fund wars on the other side of the world…

Psydelics
The mind can be a terrifying thing. I'm glad you're in touch with his Dad, Mark 🖤
This breaks my heart
The mind is the crossroads between the spiritual and physical planes
It annoys me when people say Mark is exploiting these people, and only does it to make money, yet here, he keeps in contact with chrises father, and also other victims family. He doesnt have to do that. It proves that he does care, and he doing this work for the right reasons.
He also gives them money to be interviewed
It's a lot more than that. The whole SFU series is of enormous value for so many different reasons. The most important maybe for giving these people a voice and for showing the world that they are humans first with a different story for each of them.

It’s good to see Chris still alive. It’s been a couple years since I last saw him. I was hoping that he would be in a better place.
My schizophrenic cousin took his own life last year. This condition is so horrible! I really feel for this man.

My sister is in jail right now.. and not eating well due to her schizophrenia.. have to wait for the court to make decisions.. this illness is so painful for her and our family.
Oh, wow - this one hit hard. Chris’s first interview was so beautiful and interesting. If it hurts me, a complete stranger, to see him like this I can only imagine how it’s impacting his family. Thank you for being the lifeline between Chris and his dad, Mark. ❤
Beautiful? The first one is the worst for Chris for sure
Maybe I didn't watch them in order? Seems odd you'd care enough to bother making this comment. @@arkham5940
@@arkham5940 They must be mixing up the first and second interviews. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't great in his first, but he was better there than here, at least physically I think.
Mark, as a mom with a son that is the same age as this young man with the same illness, thank you for doing this interview.
It's extremely hard to not help the one you love when they don't see the need for help. Grieving the loss of unfulfilled dreams that you have for your kid is not something I would wish on my worst enemy.
One time i found my son getting food from the Salvation Army mobile food truck. I went up to them and could barely get the words out of my mouth because i was so choked up with emotion, but I was so thankful that they took the time to love my son.
Hugs to all those that feel this similar pain.
But there is. Meds can help, but need to be administered daily same time by a caregiver. There's also a timed pill dispenser that works.
This is heartwrenching. God please watch over all those sick and suffering
My brother just died this 8th. He was really tired. I know he fought his sickness. I just miss him a lot.
Mark your work is truly amazing and inspiring. This man needs to get some help but the bad thing is is he has no idea help is needed
Also he lives in America, and will be dealing with a lot of abuse from the system which will be making his condition worse, recovery in the USA is near impossible now, the sadistic authorities will be having a lot of fun with him.
He knows sometimes.
But his schizophrenia is so advanced he goes in and out of reality.
Sometimes he's aware of whats going on and sometimes he's so in his head he forgets about it entirely.
You can't get help in America for people like this, it cost too much money. Apparently in America, money is more important than people's health. He'd be better off in Europe, or probably even in Russia.
This is tough to watch. This man is vulnerable and needs help
Good job, Mark. I struggle with this too and it's so hard to hear someone talking to you because the voices in your head are so loud. Most people can't understand that. But, once you hear the voices they don't stop. There is nothing you can do to fix them or quiet them. They're just there all the time.
❤
I wish psychedelics could be studied for this
what was the first time you heard them?
Are they more like thoughts or external voices?
I’ve dealt with schizophrenia during a psychotic break… I have never dealt with it in my life besides that time which was just a couple months ago. I feel your pain and my thoughts were so dark that I was so disturbed I couldn’t even bring myself to tell anybody what they were saying, but the voices are gone and I never had to take medication for a long period of time… Jesus healed me, and I know this for a fact. I don’t know if you believe in Jesus or not but I wanted to give you hope . I binge watched Kathryn krick on TH-cam .. she does deliverances and she is amazing !!! I strongly recommend watching her deliverance videos if you are open to that . I believe that these voices are demons… You just need to be set free. I spent months begging Jesus for freedom from the hell I was in .. he answered and I’m 100
Percent healed today .
I still mourn for my older brother, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 17. He’s here physically but mentally and emotionally he’s no longer with us.
😢
Mine too , but my sister. I miss who she was. She had so much potential and now she is a shell of herself.
@Dr.MantisToboggan69 My sister is showing signs of having schizophrenia, but she refuses to go see a professional, so there is no diagnosis. Regardless, I completely feel the same way. I am going through a sort of mourning at the moment, too. I can't help but think of our child selves (we're both now in our 20s). I hope that she will engage with help one day 😔
@@vanessad5 my sister was super resistant to treatment as well. She ended up arrested for her behavior (attacked a family member in a delusional fit) and was put into a mental institution for 6 weeks. Afterwards she had probation that required she stay medicated. She was so afraid of going to jail again (it was a very bad experience, her cellmates did not appreciate her paranoid/strange behavior) that she maintained meds. After probation ended she became non-compliant again off and on. It's been a nightmare.
Mine as well, been 15 years now plagues us everyday
We’ve all been waiting for an update on Chris for so long now and this is a gut punch, although not surprising. I often think about how you’re holding up yourself Mark, I can hear the concern and sadness in your voice here. Day in and day out hearing these terrible stories, it’s gotta chip away at your soul, you’re only human so take care of yourself! I hope Chris’s family can convince him to get help. No one deserves to suffer like this.
The pain you can see in his eyes is heartbreaking.
Nah. When they are on those mental states, they are happy as fuck. U can see in this video how active Chris is.
My friend has a son who was diagnosed as a schizophrenic in his third year in a engineering program at MIT, he now lives at home, he refuses to take the medication prescribed by his doctor some days because he feels the “cure” is worse than the disease itself. Maybe that’s the way Chris feels, but my friend son isn’t living on the streets, he works as a janitor now is making a contribution to society, Good luck Chris
I was rotated on pretty much all the antipsychotic medication. They are all horrible. I rather society think I'm odd than sit in such discomfort medicated. If the pills=better life, people would take it without question, but they don't equal a better life for most.
Regular people don't trust big pharma, why should I?
Cant u be schizophrenic and an engineer?
Wow. Not easy to be accepted to MIT, your friend's son is obviously very smart. I have a good friend that works there, amazing school. Glad he has family support...♥

Long acting injectable psych meds would probably save this sguys life. Most schizophrenics don’t want to take meds when they are sick but once they get on the meds they see the value in taking them

Absolutely heartbreaking to watch him 💔 it’s great that you’re in contact with his dad though Mark. Thank you
The crows in the background are extremely ominous.

Schizophrenia and meth is an insanely terrible combination 😢
Oh, wow its Chris I've been hoping for an update on him, thank you Mark!

I’m somehow afraid of the next update. Poor Soul.
I have a neighbour with schizophrenia, refuses to accept help or take medication, thinks nothings wrong with her but I hear everything through the walls. It's very sad when she starts having her bad schizophrenic 'attacks'
Absolutely heartbreaking. My nephew is schizophrenic and is stable only due to a monthly injection along with daily medication(s). And that combination took a long time for the doctors to establish, filled with many terrifying incidents along the way. Compliance is a daily struggle and is practically a full time job for my brother. It is a horrible condition. I hope Chris and his family can find a way to get the help he needs.
I've never heard of an injection, my brother has this disorder too but still working on the insurance process, interesting
Been wanting an update on this guy for a while, wondering where he is, sucha good looking guy, especially in the first video compared to now, feel so sorry for him
Schizophrenia is one of the saddest diseases. Many people that have it seem like they would live totally different lives if they were healthy. Wish this brother the best.
One of the toughest disorders to have. I worked for a Psychologist for 8 years and one my guys in the day program was Schizophrenic. Broke my heart. Some days I was scared, other days we would laugh. He was always calm when I played Usher’s Confession. He knew verse for verse and had an amazing voice. It’s sad to see this DO Rob so many people.😢
I was hoping for a better life 😢God keep you brother.
These people are under demonic attack. As believers we have to understand this. If we strengthen our relationship with Christ we can reach them.
Thank you, Mark...for helping. I hope Chris feels better soon ❤
People are heartbroken to see animals roaming around hungry, dirty, helpless and bring them to shelters against their will no problem because they need help. But a human literally slowly killing them selves and possibly hurting others is absolutely ok to be left alone because it’s against that person’s right to be taken into shelter or hospital for help. Take heart Chris the whole world has lost its mind.
I hear you. He is incapable as a stray kitten to care for himself, yet we let him roam around until he eventually dies...It was as wrong to close the mental hospitals as it would be to close the animal shelters. These people need treatment , health care are and a safe place to live. Once stabilized, surely they can be given greater freedom and reintroduced into society and some semblance of normal life.
So you want to physically force him to get treatment against his will?We don't do that in this country. The police can take him in and ask him if he feels he is a threat to himself or other people,if he says no, they have to let him go. Crazy people have rights too. It's an interesting debate,on the one hand, you're taking drastic action to do what you know is best for the person in an attempt to save their life and on the other hand in a free society we have to protect people's. civil liberties and automatically over their own life even if it's self destructive. If a homeless person is sleeping outside in twenty degree weather should the police force him against his will into a shelter or should he have the freedom to freeze to death?
Until they start defining politically incorrect views as "mental illness." Then the state can take you away for deprogramming. Political abuse of psychiatry has a well-documented history.
People want to help him, and people have tried to help him, but how can you help someone who is living in a delusional world and disagrees that they even need help?
@@user-hm5me1rx9b By forcing them to go to the hospital... like many other first world countries do.
Wow, Chris has really deteriorated. I'm glad to see he is still alive, but heartbroken at his condition. I know his family is devastated.
As soon as you mention his family, he began having intrusive thoughts that you were spying on him. Good interview, because it shows the real that is Skid Row. ((Hugs))
My father had the same mental illness and also went to MIT. He was an engineering writer. Brilliant man with an IQ of 150. He worked for Lockheed, IBM, Pratt & Whitney, nuclear submarines, tanks with laser technology, etc. But after a couple decades he didn’t like ever taking the medicine because of the side effects so he stopped taking it. He lived on and off the streets. He since passed away. It’s a brutal illness. Chemical brain imbalance. Very sad😞

I am so happy to see he is alive, Mark please let us know if he accepts help and reconnects with his Dad. I know from my own past how tormented he is. I pray safety over him and his own strength to get help. To Chris' family: Please know that healing of that magnitude is possible. How insincere of you.
Heartbreaking. He is so profoundly ill. Schizophrenia is such a cruel disease. I hope Chris gets the help he needs.
We have a mental health crisis in this country. I who am someone to have sought treatment, know how bad it can get. Some are ashamed of afraid to get help.
Thank-you for your spotlight on mental illness. It is rough for people who have it and equally rough for their family members. Sadly the stigma never goes away. No one can accept it as part of their, our humanity. Before he died, my son Jantzen's best friend suffered from Schizophrenia. I met him several times with Jantzen. I told him he was the same as us as everybody but he was better because he accepted help. He was so affected by Jantzen's death, he could not come to the funeral. Jantzen was killed while biking by a negligent driver. I know this is not a popular thought, but I think we all have some mental illness. I actually think this has contributed to the rise of religiosity - or why religions exist to control the narrative or explanation for mental illness. Acceptance is key. Getting help is key. Getting help should not have such a negative connotation about it. We all need help at different points.
Might as well say we all have cancer, we are all diabetics too.
The same way that somebody can be completely physically healthy, they can be completely mentally healthy.
Perhaps you're around the wrong people
@@southphillylilly that’s what you took from this comment?
@@southphillylilly I understand your point. Cancer and Diabetes are currently not used as control factors by outside influencers (such as religion) for the people who suffer them. Mental illness still is used as a control factor by outside influencers. That is why I brought it up. I believe it is why the stigma around mental illness still remains which does not exist for cancer or diabetes patients.
I think the more we steer away from religion the more mentally ill we become
Very well said

Good of you to try to help, Mark.
I have 2 schizophrenic cousins, one struggled on and off with addiction and took their own life a few years ago, she had a job and a house and an overall decent life, but i guess maybe it just got to be too much. My other one is still here and has been at the same job in the same house for many many years and hes been consistent with his medication throughout all that time, but i know when both of them first started their medication, they had a hard time with it because they just dont feel like themselves on it.
I really appreciate how kind and patient you are with all these people you interview, kudos to you.

.Love the way he pulls a few stuck ones out of the barriers - picking a winner. This guy is in a really bad way but sadly has no idea of how far he has fallen into the abyss
People with Schizophrenia are difficult to help in any way that they aren’t willing to accept. They start and stop medication all the time and can end up a danger to themselves and others. I hope more people w this disorder understand why not having children can be beneficial . That’s just my opinion.

This runs in my family and it is heartbreaking to watch a loved one basically become a totally different person.
This is so heartbreaking seeing the video from 7 months ago to current day. Our mental health resources are not good along with the needs of people with mental health disorders such as survival housing, food, medical care. I appreciate this platform is attempting to help people and show the world the truth of this mental health disease. I hope Chris can get the help he needs and somehow get better.
This is heartbreaking to watch. Poor sweetie. He didn’t ask for this, but he suffers. Idk what I’d do if my son developed schizophrenia. The systemic failure that's apparent in this country just by the fact that Chris is suffering homeless while being so mentally ill is appalling. We have people in this country that have more money than god and those most in need, the helpless, are left out in the cold. Mark, you are such an inspiration for how those of us who are privileged enough should be directing our efforts.
Gone are the days were one got institutionalized . His family would have to go to court & I don't think it would be an easy process as Chris has some awareness. He's not going to take his meds. Poor guy.
