Growing up in Mexico City, my parents were constantly reminding me of these type of dangers. Stories here and there of people being drugged and waking up without an organ were pretty well known. That’s why you were always told to not put “organ donor” in your DL since that would be another way how they would identify the victims. I’m almost 30 and I’ve been hearing about this since I was in middle school. It’s absolutely insane how we still know nothing about this.
Im in America (Texas) and my mom told me to NEVER put "Organ Donor" in my Drivers License. She has also stopped an 18 year old boy at the DMV (total stranger) from doing so.
My sister's husband is from Mexico, and I've heard similar stories. His father was murder3d and they were taking every penny they could, until they couldn't
So the cartels are checking drivers licenses for the little dot? This video ends by saying there needs to be a legit organ market for the illegal trade to stop. But this comment is saying don't donate organs through the legal channels.
@@tonality531 it’s not that the cartel is checking for the dot, but if you are a donor, the chances of drawing attention to yourself are higher. It could also mean that EMTs and medical professionals could have an incentive to not save you if they see that you’re a donor. Every industry in Mexico has been heavily corrupted and there’s signs of organized crime everywhere. They mentioned it here, the ones choosing the victims are legitimate doctors. They probably check your DL. You think these people care if you’ll be able to live happily ever after with your new organ? The health or quality of the organ is irrelevant to them.
Yea YOU didn't get paid for it, but I promise you that hospital & doctors did. Between $400,000 to $500,000 to be exact. But yea, God bless you for your heroic gesture & generosity.
People selling kidneys is like those who sell blood. Poor economic structures in those types of places are the cause for that. Especially since we all know we can survive with one kidney. So yeah, if it comes down to your kids getting a meal for a few months I bet you'll think differently. It happens.
Believe it or not, organs aren’t the worst items being trafficked across borders. Children are more valuable and you don’t even want to know what happens to them.
When I was growing up in Chihuahua, Mexico, in 2009, I remember many young people going missing (Although there are always people going missing). They would come to find that they were opened up, and their organs were gone. In the Mexican news, they would report about the disappearances and how the bodies were found, although they did not disclose any more details. Once that happened for a couple months, they would post on the news that the police had shut down an organ harvesting base in a city in the state of Chihuahua. I was so small when I heard about this; I was 7 years old. I live in the US and have seriously considered selling a kidney. I’m not surprised at all that it is such a large illegal market. When you and your kids are hungry and facing a cold, homeless winter - it’s amazing the things you are willing to do. It’s definitely much more disturbing to think about other/ more vital organs being stolen from living people
I’ve also really wished I could sell my kidney. Was homeless for a few years. There are very few places that actually help. ALSO harvesting absolutely also happens in the US. You’ll never catch me checking organ donor on my ID though.

@@hellyeah7403keep in mind, some of the indigenous groups in the Americas sided with Europeans, such as the French, the Spanish, and the British because they were warring with other indigenous tribes. No, I'm not denying the terrible things the Europeans did. It all happened. Many indigenous American groups fought with each other, took each other's lands, and enslaved each other too. The Apache and Commanche tribes were a prime example. The Cherokee tribe owned African slaves. The "Aztecs" lost power because many neighboring indigenous groups didn't like them, and sided with the Spanish. Heck, the Aztecs had a tower of skulls comprised of women and children, warriors where Mexico City is today. Not exactly the most peaceful group either.

While 500 years ago there were estimated to be 5 to 6 millions indigenous Native Americans in the USA, before Christopher Columbus arrived, today there are only around 2 million indigenous Native Americans survived. Yeah it's pretty rare especially for haitian immigrants. They are treated horribly by the mexicans running the boats from guatemala into mexico for example. They don't understand spanish and tge types running the crossings can be pretty racist and openly brutal about it especially because they know most haitians don't speak spanish. Not that they could do anything about it if they understood.
This was incredibly interesting. What a badass that lady is for putting herself in danger for the story. She's very likable. I could have kept watching.

I m from Romania… we had in a private clinic in Cluj this situation for years… The doctor worked at the public Hospital and he has a private clinic…where the patients are redirected for “selling offer”… At the end, when the kidney was out,the “donnor” recive a very small amount…
Props to this lady and her team for their courage to face such a country and those people especially those murders .. they must have been terrified going there …
The problem is that there just isn't enough organs for people to go about it the right way. I live in 1 of 2 canadian provinces that implemented a law that if you are an adult, if you pass away you automatically consent to organ donation unless you opt out prior. It still gives people the freedom to choose while allowing others who may not have ever considered donating to be able to help someone else.
That is *"a"* problem, but not *"the"* problem. There are so many factors: rich/poor countries, overpopulation/underpopulation, individual greed and selfishness, bad luck, no regard for human life, bad lifestyle choices (especially for livers), etc., etc.
here in Argentina we have the Justina Law, in honor to a little girl who died waiting for a transplant, that states that everyone who dies is a donor except they have expressed consent in life not to be
In Québec its like that. I dont know the other province, probab Ontario?. I confirm that NEVER, not once in life, I have feared or even thought that it would be possible someone kill me here for my organs!
36:42 That doctor LAUGHED when he confirmed that usually the patients die right there. I kept rewatching it. He tried to stifle it but his mask slipped and his cheek gave it away. That's wild. You know he's a part of the underground and fully enjoys it.
Thank you Mariana for the excellent investigations and interviews. I can not imagine when people are in these situations of saving their life or providing money to their family - just the extent their will go. Brings up a lot of questions.
Someone in my area (northern Germany) went to Amsterdam with his soccer team and returned short by one kidney. He recently passed away 3 months ago in his sleep. He leaves behind 3 adult children and 2 minor children. I pray that those who are suffering their outcome are better.
kind of yeah, but in Mexico the gangs and cartels are much stronger than the police without a question. The police are not gonna risk getting their families skinned and burned for even barely interfering with the cartel. so as long as you side with the cartel and don't snitch you can say anything and the police can't really do much. Unfortunately Mexico could never control their cartels, its like if a random Chicago gang was more influential than the army.

They´re really stupid. We´re not made to be walking around with someone elses's irgans in our body.. The truth is many transplant recipients have a poor quality of life and die not long after having received the organ/s
I am from Italy and just discovered about the illegal traffick of organs thanks to our nanny, who’s from El Salvador. She claims her family had to pay for crossing Mexico and still didn’t know if they would safely reach the US. That is why she moved to Italy, where atrocities like these don’t exist. Or don’t exist yet. This reporter is extraordinarily brave.
My answer for the last question is NO, I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. I WOULD RATHER DIE than deprive someone of their lives in such a brutal and painful way. Those who get transplanted illegally will have the correspondent consequences some day. Don’t ever think you’ll get sth for free, especially at the expense of others’ pain
I would be more concerned about the health of the organ I received. As a patient, you are expecting an organ to be collected properly and for the patient to be tested for more than just compatibility. How do you know you won’t end up with Hepatitis or cancer? I am a cancer survivor and you can’t tell by looking at me or my body so if someone harvested illegal organs from me, the recipient could potentially suffer from the same issues I did. I’m not allowed to even donate blood because I had cancer.

I wish someone would look into the foster care system in the U.S. and how cps colludes with these big hospitals. Keeping in mind how may organs require a patient to be on a vent. The Kowalski vs Johns Hopkins case currently going on is exposing the system but only to an extent.

As always, in the USA is where most of the drugs are sold, same for organs and other forms of trafficking. If there were no demands, these issues wouldn’t happen. 🤷🏽♀️
Maybe because the USA has a big population and an economy stronger than the global average. And in the usa the media makes these type of reports and documentaries more frequently about whats going on there than the rest of the world (I am not even american)
I don't see anything wrong with buying an organ if a person is willing to sell it. I see something wrong if you have a surgery in a different country and the doctor steals your organ and you had no authority in its removal.
I think the person buying has to be aware to a certain extent of the kind of organs they're buying and how they are harvested. Like if you couldn't find one in your country and have to go through the black market, what are the chances that you are buying an organ that was safely removed from someone? What makes you sure that this person didn't undergo dangerous surgery or was ACTUALLY willing to sell/donate their organ
Have you ever asked yourself why someone would be freely willing to sell an organ? Maybe this person Just needs money, but then you just transformed poverty into an asset.
Wow, I am so impressed by Mariana. How brave she is, how natural she is and I am not surprised people agree to an interview with her considering how incredibly trustworthy and unfiltered she is. It's pretty remarkable what she is willing to sacrifice regarding her own safety and well-being (being traumatized afterwards I can imagine), as well. Needless to say though, reality is gross. Wow...
Definitely wouldnt go to Mexico for all the plastic surgeries. They have all your medical info and if you're a match then you've paid and so has the customer. I could see that happening a lot
Perhaps human beings cling to this world, this life, way more than they should. Especially in certain countries, the desire to live forever is a growing thing, and people will do anything, anything, to try to get that. A better question, for me, is, why are people's organs failing so frequently?
A tip for all, stay out of dark alleys.Mariana should have gotten a lead earlier before deciding to track these people down. 200,000.00 for a kidney? Shes lucky she and her team member got out of there alive. Holy cow, the price has jumped since I found out about it years ago. I think it was 60-70,000.00.
This documentary is behind on the times, seen a documentary almost a decade ago that busted this wide open and also the hospitals who aren't asking any questions in the US when organs turn up for the patient, never asking "how" and fulfilling the surgery most times. Then there was suggestions that some surgeons themselves were also in on it as far as being paid as well to keep it quite because these are very expensive surgeries for the patient and most of the clientele was very rich men\women and most organs were coming way farther than South America but from Manilla where a good chunk of the population have sold their kidneys. This is old news so idk why she is acting like they can't get an organ from South America to the US in two days because they are coming from all over the world within hours to some of our most renown transplant hospitals. Thing is it's something that can't be sloppy and usually there are helicopters that fly this as their cargo on their regular trips doing other things but are paid well to have a few organs in their cargo space. It's been understood for quite some time but that old documentary showed just how corrupt the hospitals, surgeons and dying patients are when these surgeries are carried out in the US. Even non citizens (rich) are coming to US hospitals to have these transplant surgeries carried out. It's insanity and most of these organs coming from Asia. I will try to find that documentary if it hasn't been nixxed by TpTB over the past decade but it was eye opening and the reporter was one of the first whistle blowers to come with names, places and actually followed the patient even after they got the transplant and documented the entire process. He even got to talk to some of the surgeons on both sides of the world (real and black market). It was kind blowing seeing it for first time because it's something you know has always happened (since medically we've been able to transplant) but you could never imagine just how corrupt and what upstanding citizens are aware and are in on it in some fashion of the process.
If I buy a house, the underwriters wanna know everything about everything. Seems like there should be laws in place forcing these questions. Im sure they would just fake the paperwork but at least there would be a paper trail.
This documentary reminds me of the movie Never Let Me Go, I watched it when I was 16 and was so impressed by how they showed how humans are just a simple thing that we can play with. Also, I'm from Mexico and now living in the USA and I always put in my driver's license not to be an organ donor.
hes basically a nurse in training. a technician. a surgical tech. he will be working at the direction of a doctor who is skilled in surgery, and this guy will simply do what hes being told while the doctor explains to him the basics. you might get some idea who the doctor is or at least where he was educated by his technique from pictures like that.

"We're still here .... We are not going anywhere." - Native Americans 😔
Speaking of Native American people who have not occupied an inch of European land, or slaughtered a single European in Europe; while European Colonizers have occupied both North & South America lands and terminated 99.9% of Natives population.
- Speaking of Europe which is actually a huge livable Continent with 45 nations. Russia alone is a ginormous nation which occupies nearly half of Europe with a relatively small population. Nearly half of mainland Asia, from Siberia to Far-East Asia also is inside Russia."
- The 'land grab' is more of the same in Asia-Pacific region where European Colonizers such as Britain and Russia have already Colonized half of Asia, stretching from Australia/New Zealand, to Siberia/Far-East, all in Asia-Pacific region.😔
- No doubt, greed is a major driving force behind Genocide, Slavery, Colonialism and Colonization.
- By the way, many thanks for the informative multi-pages comment by 'Lonely Alaskan' at, "Complete History Of Indigenous America Before Colonialism/Chronicle"., that I've learnt a heck of a whole lot more about the plights of Native Americans than I've ever known my entire life.

Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION."
For instance, 200 years ago here in the USA, around 3 million Germans came, and now there are 65 millions German-Americans; while 150 years ago, around 2 millions Irish came, and now there are 45 million Irish-Americans. While 500 years ago there were estimated to be 5 to 6 millions indigenous Native Americans in the USA, before Christopher Columbus arrived, today there are only around 2 million indigenous Native Americans survived.
I agree, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people.

The problem is that there just isn't enough organs for people to go about it the right way. I live in 1 of 2 canadian provinces that implemented a law that if you are an adult, if you pass away you automatically consent to organ donation unless you opt out prior. It still gives people the freedom to choose while allowing others who may not have ever considered donating to be able to help someone else.
this is the way to go
That is *"a"* problem, but not *"the"* problem. There are so many factors: rich/poor countries, overpopulation/underpopulation, individual greed and selfishness, bad luck, no regard for human life, bad lifestyle choices (especially for livers), etc., etc.
I’m Canadian and wasn’t aware there are 2 provinces that do this. I think it’s a good thing. ❤
here in Argentina we have the Justina Law, in honor to a little girl who died waiting for a transplant, that states that everyone who dies is a donor except they have expressed consent in life not to be
In Québec its like that. I dont know the other province, probab Ontario?. I confirm that NEVER, not once in life, I have feared or even thought that it would be possible someone kill me here for my organs!

kind of yeah, but in Mexico the gangs and cartels are much stronger than the police without a question. The police are not gonna risk getting their families skinned and burned for even barely interfering with the cartel. so as long as you side with the cartel and don't snitch you can say anything and the police can't really do much. Crime: supply and demand
I don't see anything wrong with buying an organ if a person is willing to sell it. I see something wrong if you have a surgery in a different country and the doctor steals your organ and you had no authority in its removal.
I agree
I think the person buying has to be aware to a certain extent of the kind of organs they're buying and how they are harvested. Like if you couldn't find one in your country and have to go through the black market, what are the chances that you are buying an organ that was safely removed from someone? What makes you sure that this person didn't undergo dangerous surgery or was ACTUALLY willing to sell/donate their organ
Selling and buying organs is WRONG. People who are selling do not have choices
Have you ever asked yourself why someone would be freely willing to sell an organ? Maybe this person Just needs money, but then you just transformed poverty into an asset.
