- Hi, we are Bec, Sam, Isabella & Euan. After selling our house in the UK & travelling Europe in a motorhome for 10 months, we have bought a derelict stone cottage in Ireland. We are keen to try and live an off grid life, free from debt whilst bringing the farm back to its former glory. We are doing this on a very tight budget and plan on doing the work ourselves.

Just discovered your channel. I have a health problem that wakes me up and I can’t go back to sleep so I went back and viewed all of your videos and thoroughly fell in love with all of you. It is nice to see how he wants to help, now in September school starts in Ireland, and I assumed Euan and Isabella are enrolled for this year.
Amazing progress. While watching the video this evening I wondered what the original builders and inhabitants would make of the restoration of this home.
I also love that everyone is lending a hand, Sam and Euan helping dip sheep, the lads helping with the base. Imagine a world where everyone were like the Irish Homestead, it would be wonderful ❤

What a way for Euan to learn valuable life skills - sheep dipping, mini digger operation, the dumper and most of all the safety aspects of doing it all. Your family are all doing this project together and making your dream home. It is such a joy to see it all changing and progressing. Thank you for allowing us to witness your journey.
Toby and Nel seem to have a good relationship. I hope this is a bit of a window into how Toby might accept a donkey companion if the opportunity arises.

You are indeed cracking with the reno project. It's been a cold, rainy, muddy, dusty, noisy and very hard work that you doing, along with learning to handle big machinery.. Bec & Sam - its lovely to see you participating in & benefitting from the great Irish tradition of "Meitheal", where neighbours help each other out with their labour. You must be the fastest ever graduates thru the "blow-ins" phase, judging by the amount of friendly neighbours you have acquired. You'll be changing your accents next & using the word "grand" in every sentence. 😂 Great progress
I think making the effort to be friendly and stop for a chat is the secret. I’ve seen people move not far from where they’ve moved to and after 20 years nobody local knows them. But I’ve seen other people become pillars of the local community in a year or two.
Yes it's all about helping your neighbours here. We learned quickly that people look after each other here and we ate so grateful for that and will always return the favour at any opportunity.
It's nice of you to help your neighbor with the dipping. Makes a bit of a change doesn't it? Its like giving your mind a bit of a mini vacation from the house. You'll come back more focused.
When they were digging out my mum's property to get ready to pour the foundation, the guy with the digger came across a dozen granite rocks about 6-8 feet across and about 5 feet high. Each weighed in at about a ton to three tons. My mum, God bless her, asked the digger guy if he could pile the rocks together "over there" to make a rock garden. You had to be there to see the guy's expression. It was priceless! He managed it somehow. I think he rolled them end over end.

Yes we often help the farmer. It works both ways he often does us favours. Definitely a great community spirit here in Ireland. Lo e that your mum got her rock garden in the end! Thank goodness for people who go the extra mile. ♥️
The skimming in the house looks great. I can see the idea now. Removing the walls has made the house project easier to see now. Looking good. Keep it up.

Great job. That was a lot of graft but having the mini digger and the powered barrow is fantastic. Love the progress and getting to see each stage. You're a great team and I really appreciated Euan having a 'shot' at filling the barrow with the digger. You are all so invested in your future home and that is fantastic to see.
He did so well. We are proud of him. Very thankful for the help from Adam, Tim& Patrick too with the groundworks as Sam was so worried about that.

Always appreciate your updates. The momentum is really apparent and progress is impressive. Terrific that you're being a good neighbor; helping with sheep dipping. Your sheep dog really seems to be the homestead diplomat as Toby, the hens and the cats seem to gravitate to and congregate around her.

I found you Guys about 5 days ago and have binge watched the whole series before i commented. First what a Fabulous Channel thank you. Im from Bolton and watching Sam take the Thatch off and the chimney down. i could just here Freds reaction By eck Lad that was a fine bloody Job there (many moons ago i worked in a factory and Fred dropped the old chimney brick by Brick took him a couple of months and he made us laugh on a daily basis what a Guy. I love watching the Cats and the Chickens wandering around and the Colly hearding you all about hes a star that dog. The Donkey has come on leaps and bounds what a sweatheart. But you Guys are the stars of the show your commitment and your Kids wowzers . The cottage. the land. your visions for your property is Top Banana!!! Only 1 complaint Now ive caught up i have too wait but ill get to go to bed at a regular time lol Isnt it funny we are Lancashire born and Bred but love a good Brew of Yorkshire Tea Have a Good one and catch up with you soon x

All this reminds me of the time when I was working for David McLean the house builder yrs ago, it's looking good now with all the base stone in clean and dry now 👍 it's taking shape good ❤

Go on Bec's....show 'em how it's done! 😆 I was the only girl with 3 brothers and they all went into apprenticeships in the building trade. My Dad started from technical college as a carpenter and joiner in Ireland, came over to England in 1957 and worked on the bridges over the M1, including the services over the motorway at Leicester Forest East. I always say ' whatever my brothers can do, I can do too!' I lost my lovely husband when we were both 38 and so, being on my own with 2 children, I relied on my own brains and whatever brawn I could muster to get jobs done myself.😁 Working as a team with your husband and being able to pass on skills, knowledge and independence to your children is a wonderful experience. Both my daughters can knock up a flat pack in minutes! 😆

Soooo much work that no one will ever see again or realise was ever there!!! Just so mirrors what we did as a family when we did our house. The work that gets done that no one ever appreciates or understands!!! I couldn't have done ours without my wife's and kids' full backing. Kudos to you all.
