Hi Danielle, Your soul is filled with so much joy after you have created a new garden space, It gives you a sense of peace and lets you know you are exactly where you are meant to be. It's hard to put into words the overwhelming happiness a garden can fill you with. You have been blessed to do what you love to do, and it shows and comes through in your videos, your passion and love for gardening is an inspiration to all of us. You have done an amazing job transforming your garden space, it's absolutely beautiful! 😍
Gardening has always been a great stress reliever for me. I come outside and pull a few weeds, plant some seeds and I can just feel my blood pressure lowering. You are right…..it’s hard to put into words. I love sitting outside, watching my hummingbirds while having a cup of tea. As my husband would say gardening is “ cheaper then a psychiatrist “
I can certainly understand how much peace and joy turning a patch of grass into a bountiful garden has been for you. Not only is it beautiful but supports all of those beneficial friends like insects and hummingbirds. Those bachelor buttons are beautiful! We also have taken a neglected yard and turning into something more attractive. You are an inspiration to many of us. Thanks!
Such a beautiful transformation over the 8 years. You inspire us all Danielle! I think compost, cardboard and half moon edgers are gardeners best friends! 🌸🤗
I use cardboard or brown compost bags, then I water them (yes the cardboard/compost bags), then I put down compost or black soil (triple mix), then I mulch. I just cut a place to plant my perennials, pop in more compost to the bottom of the hole I dug, and cover them back up. No more back breaking turning over a new garden space! The earthworms love this method too, and come up to break down the cardboard or compost bags! It’s a win, win!
Wow that before picture is jaw dropping. You’ve created something so wonderful where there was nothing. You made your grandmother so proud I’m sure. You have a gift! There are no words for the serenity when gardening. Thanks for sharing your gift.
I believe all of us are artists. Some create with words or paint or other media…and some of us create with soil and plants!! I am working on a large new garden myself….if I had a TH-cam channel I would call it The Haphazard Gardener! LOL But gardening provides us with the joy of creation that is renewed every time we spend that meditative time working in our growing spaces! Thank you for sharing your gardening delight with us!!
Gardening is free therapy! We gardener’s are most at peace and tranquility when in our gardens. Happy gardening from my garden in Zone 9B to yours in your beautiful paradise!
I love creating new garden beds, unfortunately it drives my husband crazy. This year I agreed not to make any new beds, but I didn't agree not to expand the beds I already have!!! Love your videos!!!
I thought I was the only one! I created a narrow garden along the side of the driveway between the driveway and the walkway to the house. Not the whole length, it's maybe 10 or 12 feet long? It used to be even smaller, but every year for a few years I'd "edge" it and expand it maybe 6 inches at a time into the lawn. My husband finally said, "you're pretty slick. You think I don't know what you're doing?" Oops, busted, haha! But even he enjoys the gardens and loves it when neighbors walking by comment on our front yard.
You are such an inspiration to me. I started growing cut flowers in the traditional way. Long straight rows. I’m trying to mimic your garden more; free and whimsical. I could work in my flower beds all day everyday. It is my joy.
Hi Danielle, i’m trying the no dig method for the first time yesterday. I did not realize I could sprinkle seeds without waiting those number of weeks for everything to break down. I will give it a try. Yes it’s very peaceful creating a new garden bed, symbolizing a whole bunch of new possibilities! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Yes as long as your compost layer is as thick as the root system the flowers will be fine. I have found that flowers that develop tap roots will be shorter than normal the first year.
😂Remember saying trying to avoid the flip flops when working in the garden? It’s truly inspiring to see all your hard work has turned the space into such beautiful gardens
Danielle, in yesterday’s video I literally gasped at the view of your flower walk! Today is no different. Thank you for the time and attention to detail in sharing these videos.💖 You are so kind and so remarkable!
I spy a cut flower stand! Is that your plan for your husband’s handiwork? Peace like a river runs through the garden - and your videos. Thank you for sharing your process.
The fullfillment of gardening really came through in this video. How fun with that mothers day gift!!!🎉😊 And also that it kind of looks like the one my father in law helped me build this past weekend. 😅 Love your videos!
I ❤ watching your channel, INFORMATIVE & INSPIRATIONAL. I feel MY PLEASURE & JOY in GARDENING is because, WE are CREATED in GOD'S IMAGE. HE'S the ULTIMATE CREATOR & CREATED US for HIS PLEASURE & JOY. 🤗
What you’ve created in 8 years is amazing to say the least & beautiful. Every time I watch your videos I think how wonderful to have created this & enjoy the beautiful space. I can understand how it brings you joy & peace.
Looking forward to updates on the flowers germination. I have never done this…YET! Will you ever need to water more than twice a day? Would love to hear you discuss your watering methods.
I sowed bupleurum last fall, it did great. I just cut it all last week. I didn't know it would grow in the summer heat. I know some cool, hardy annuals do not like the heat. I still am learning ones that I can do successions through the season. If there are ones you can share, I would appreciate it. I love your gardens and your content. ❤
No-dig gardening is the best! I only wish I knew about it years ago. I've battled Bishop's Weed from the start. It's everywhere, even throughout the grass (sigh)! No-dig gives you a blank slate to work with. My little no-dig annual garden has none of the Bishop's weed so far 😊
Dear Danielle, I’m going to take a chance and make one of “those” TH-cam video comments! I noticed that you were doing some of your gardening in flip flops without socks. I used to do that, too. It was how I contracted a life-threatening dirt-borne bacterium, through a microscopic tear in the skin of my foot. One scary hospital stay later, and I’ve learned my lesson. Turns out, dirt can be darned dangerous! If you can, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and put on socks and shoes before heading out to play in the dirt. I say this as a loyal fan and avid gardener who hopes to be able to watch your videos for many years to come. (I hope I’ve made it clear that I’m making this comment with genuinely warm intentions and no harsh judgments 🤞) 💕
Good info. I didn't realize the seeds could grow through the cardboard or I guess their roots don't get deep enough before the cardboard starts to decompose
Hi Danielle, I want to thank you for all of your helpful and inspiring content through the years. You have quite an eye for design and make it look easy! :) Can you please tell me when you added these seeds to the new garden bed? I was surprised about the bupleurum seeds and Ammi since they are cold hardy annuals. Was your intention to "fall sow" for next year? Seeing how small the Dalias were, it seemed like early summer at the time of this video. Thanks in advance for clarifying!
Gardening is my zen too. Your channel is one of my faves and most interesting and helpful content to grow a cut flower garden. Does Dara and Bupleurum selfseed? I’m in zone 5a
It is relaxing and peaceful. I’m a first time gardener and I set up a flower stand and sold all of my flowers on the weekends. I think your husband is making you a custom flower stand. What do you think? Later
Love your show. Learn so much. Every time I see your posts I wonder what the blue watering can is. I like the way you can flip the end to water. I am 70 and had a stroke 6 months ago and just getting back. My biggest dilemma is trying to get rid of the vines on my fence which also has attached to my garage. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks
I noticed you have an open compost area, I have a semi open set-up, I put planks over the compost to keep the critters out. Do you also have another area? I’m just curious what composting message you use!
I have a question: I'm going to start a compost pile for the 1st time. We get lots of sticks that fall from our trees and I'm always doing pruning on bushes but how does all that turn to dirt? Do I need to add something to it to make it turn to dirt? I'm confused on that process. I love your videos. I love your garden tours. Your place is just beautiful.
Honestly compost is such a daunting mystery to us. So you have or can you create a teaching videos on compost and practical realities for the micro flower growers? Specifically what it looks like at certain stages. You’re looks achievable.
Thank you for this Danielle! Have you noticed a difference in simply laying the cardboard over the grass area vs digging up the sod in terms of which is better for suppressing weeds and killing off the grass/weeds? I'd started doing both but I now suspect that scraping up the sod is actually bringing more weed seeds to the surface and maybe I should just let the cardboard smother everything. (I'm also starting with a once-abandoned, overgrown and tree heavy property, so I really appreciate you sharing your journey!)
That’s a great question! I’m not sure I notice I big difference, but I do notice a lot of violets making it through the cardboard. Or maybe they are in my compost??? I’m honestly not sure.
How big is your lot? You've inspired me to create something from my "main street, corner lot" house/garden. I'm on an acre of land and my husband doesn't want to fence the whole lot, but I love how you've created "rooms" in your garden. I think I could do the same thing. My lot is a little over an acre and my house takes up a super small portion of that acre.
I just love your videos. They are so peaceful and beautifully done! One question. I dont think i ever watched you use any fertilizers. Do you ever or just compost?
Hello Danielle, I have question and hope you can help me with this. You have been a big encouragement for me to start a small landscape cut flower garden this year. We have put a layer of top soil followed by a layer of compost, I have direct seeded some seeds and transplanted others. However once my seeds germinated they all turned yellow, and now they’re growing but very very slowly. And the transplants are practically sitting there all yellow and not growing at all. I am just wondering what it is I did wrong. If you have any idea about it would you please tell me? I would really appreciate it!
Could you tell me where you got your angel statue that is sitting in your new area? , I have made a memorial garden for my son and I would love to have her sitting there. Thank you
Not related to video but does anyone have trees or bushes they recommend that have shallow roots? I need something in a spot but it’s too close to buried lines 18~ down or a tall flower with shallow roots I already have Wild bergamot but something not prone to mildrew would be amazing
This is exactly the information I need today!! I’ve been waiting to plant dahlias until I have a perfect new bed, but you’ve shown me I can plant them all over the existing garden. If I do end up planting dahlias in a new bed, would I have to wait for the cardboard to disintegrate or cut through it?
Hi Barb! I would cut through it for dahlias. That is what I did directly behind the bed I showed her. Sometimes I’ll even leave spaces between the cardboard for anything that needs to go down deep or has a big root system. That works really well and is easy!
If you saturate the cardboard with water before putting on the compost, it’s really easy to dig right through it with your trowel. It gets easier as time goes by because the cardboard is sandwiched between two layers of soil/compost, both of which are trying to break it down.
😅😅😅 No clue on how to keep Rocky from licking it. My daughter and I have done this on terracotta, because we love the look it creates. Honestly the yuckier it gets the better it seemed in the long run.
@Northlawn Flower Farm Danielle! I meant to add that to age the stones more quickly, take a little bit of water and dirt and mash it around on top of the stones. You can also get some latex gloves and spray a little sage green and gray paint on your hands and smush it around to give a natural hint of a darker color and moss 🎨 💚
Danielle, don't you need to cover the seeds? That's a step I can leave off if it works for you not to cover. Yes peace and satisfaction, let's not bring up the stress.
I have stage 4 lung cancer and find your videos peaceful and relaxing. Love your videos
I wish for you peace of mind.
Sending virtual flowers and lots of prayers to you Mark. My grandmother and mother both had cancer. Hoping today is a good day for you. Lots of ❤
🙏🏻
Prayers for you! I agree with you, Danielle’s videos are so peaceful and enjoyable.
God may bless you

Creating a garden makes you happy. Keep doing it😻
Very peaceful, and the dog-yoghourt moments, very funny!
My garden is my Happy Place. It brings me great peace and joy
I think its about creation, nature and growth all = PEACE

Omg cultivating new flowerbeds is pure therapy for me!
My goodness, I had no idea what your property looked like when you started 8 years ago. How fabulous!!!
Building a new garden gives me a since of accomplishment.
Have you done a video talking about creating your compost area and how you use it and maintain it? I would love to see that.
Love the before and after photos of your garden. I also find gardening peaceful and relaxing, plus I receive inspiration and wonderful ideas too.
I have watched literally dozens of videos trying to see if you can actually put seeds in your newly created no dig garden. Thank you!

Would love to see some detailed before & after of your gardens. So inspiring.
Sending prayers your way mark
Such a beautiful
Love your videos!!!
Great day in the garden.💐
It's beautiful!

Thanks for your helpful videos 😊

Hi love all your videos. Could you tell what are the little white 'eggs' in the middle of the alium flowers?
love your channel. How do you deal with small seedlings close together ..
Beautiful Garden....Where can I buy a bird bath like the one u have? The one with the lions

Hi friend! We are on 1/2 acre. Only the back half is fenced.
I just love your videos. They are so peaceful and beautifully done! One question. I dont think i ever watched you use any fertilizers. Do you ever or just compost?
Hi friend! Generally, I do not use fertilizers. I have used fish emulsion in the past for heavy feeders.
I can lose myself in the garden❤

As I understand, u didn’t cover any of the new seeds planted. Corect ? I do plan to create a new shade garden .. I feel the same excitement.
Beautiful, Danielle! I just had a question: what kind of cardboard did you use? Does it matter at all? 💚
Anything without a coating will work! The plastic coating on some boxes does not seem to break down at all. Same with packing tape.
Hi Danielle, What are you painting the stones with yoghurt for?
Moss and algae love the yoghurt and when those appear, the stark newness of the stones fades. It’s a way to speed this natural process of aging.
I live in athletic clothes to garden its my gym❤
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Danielle, don't you need to cover the seeds? That's a step I can leave off if it works for you not to cover. Yes peace and satisfaction, let's not bring up the stress.
