More 170 testing please. I'm as curious as you are Joe on what will hold up or fail. Plus, small saws need love too. 😅

    I love the little 170s.
    This is awesome!

I ended up bringing the timing back a bit on mine, seemed to take away rpm but add torque. Mine is also the older style 170 though.

Well done Joe, I still find it hard to believe that the stock saw made the most amount of torque. HP gains were definitely impressive. Thanks for sharing.

It made the most TQ but it was under 8000rpm in a range that you typically wont cut in.

Meanwhile mine is sitting over here smiling with a hole drilled in it’s muffler lol 😆… Honestly I was surprised how well it runs after all the work I did to it. Cool video Joe, Great content

Like these dyno sessions trying different things then putting them to the wood. That 170 is holding on well for turning those kind of numbers.

Rock, on with that little wood cutting machine. Give it an alcohol carb and some pipe and see if you get it into the 5.5 range

Is that the stock .043 gauge chain? I wonder if the .050 chain would speed up cut times. I really like those 170s more with the bigger chain

It was still plenty rich in the 13k range. Even on pipe it wanted to be above 14k before it was sounding good.

When I go wide open throttle on my 272 it fourstrokes just like it should but after a second it starts cleaning up and then revs higher until I let go of the throttle because I'm afraid it'll blow up. To me this sounds like a vacuum leak that causes a lean condition but that mfr DOES NOT LEAK! I have pressure/vac tested it to some crazy values and its airtight. This is tested with 2 different carbs.
