What an honor it must be to care for that beautiful old growth forest! So glad the 500i is working out for you! I hope you and Wendy have a great time on your long weekend!🥰🥰
Thanks for sharing BBR - your videos are always educational and I learn something at every session. I enjoy all of your videos. Keep up the good work and your sense of humor.
Buckin hello from oklahoma friend keep up the good work your not just preaching about the trees guy like us cut down your helping me become a better person i started watching your videos a few years ago and man youve have really helped out stay safe brother
Of interest I just purchased a 500i to go with my 460's, 660, 880's ... was so intoxicated with BBR's machine noise I called up a guy who ported and had done over 200 saws and he asked me what I did with them ..I told him "just firewood... big Oldman pine " down here in NZ. He advised me not to go that road ... I've got a bark box ..big filter ..square ground ... He said it works great for forestry guy's walking between stumps but if I was just poring gas into a saw it would probably cook it and I'd get better life keeping it straight ... any comments ... BBR's saw sounds so hot.
Been watching a long time and learned so much sir I appreciate you. I went for it recently and ordered a ripsaw 500i and holy moly you are right it is something amazing. I know you are a husky man and I luv em too but I’ve got more time with Stihl and this thing may be my new favorite. Thank you again for all you give. Also the time you spent with Scott from my home state of Oregon was fantastic.
Great video Billy glad to see your enjoy using 500i. I’ve done the upgrade suspension kit for my 500i It’s made a big difference especially running a longer bar. Gordy from West Coast saws sells these kits for the 500i he’s got some really cool stuff on his website.
I like how your not arrogant like 90 percent of the other tree climbers I've met who will tell guys because you don't do it their way that it is the wrong way
Fantastic vid, I believe the 500 is sloppy.(My go to saw) I had to upgrade the suspension and beef up the springs a bit. @topheavytimber has some details on the springs he runs. puts rubber hoses in them. I did the same, the saw is much better to run after that. The 500 is totally different after a port job from RIPSAW. Love their work. It does bark a bit from time to time but not like it used to. I'm having a similar experience. As always LOVE YA!
Thanks Buckin, another great video! The 500i is sounding great! I think maybe that could be the next saw I get. What size bar are you running on it? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
For the 500 West Coast saw sales better and bigger bushings to put in the 500 to make it stiffer they work very very well I've used them they are amazing check them out
Love yr videos billy, learned alot from yr vids, coming up firewood season here in NZ. We'll be giving the 592 & 660 a go dropping some big 110ft gums and 120 ft pines this season 😊.
Believe proper forest management includes removing or control burning dead trees and debris. Otherwise huge uncontrolled forest fires will happen, just like what's occurring now in Canada. The off the shelf Stihl 500i doesn't require muffler mods, porting or tweaking. It's a beast on it's own.
I just saw you at the Clay Walker concert. I was the person that got stuck on the railing when you were sitting down!! Also, your harmonica skills are incredibly!
I have a 661 and a 462 that I run weekly. I call the 661 bigfoot as I have a 36inch bar. We use it when needing to cut underwater or big wood. However it will tire you out quickly with its weight and power. The 462 with a 25" bar is my all day general use saw. I got to try a 500I for a couple days. Man I thought the 462 was nice till I got using the 500i. The instant power and speed of the 500i is impressive. All my saws are stock as I dont know of any saw shops to do porting etc in ohio. I'll likely be getting a 500i soon.
@@ididiesel83 a bit heavier? Try ALOT heavier. Yes its got alot of power, but at the cost of alot more extra weight. That extra weight and fighting the power tires you out far quicker than a 462 or 500I will. Especially for us since we are often in knee to hip deep water and fighting currents on top of using our gear. The 661 is a solid saw. However for all day use, the 462 and 500I is where its at.
@@MysticalDragon73I don't think it's that big a difference when they're both wearing a 36" bar, but I can see where it makes a bigger difference in your application.
@ididiesel83 5lbs might not sound like much but it's HUGE when using it all day long it amounts to alot. That's why I'll consider the 500i over the 462 since it's only 1/2 lbs heavier and one horsepower more with a stock saw.
What an honor it must be to care for that beautiful old growth forest! So glad the 500i is working out for you! I hope you and Wendy have a great time on your long weekend!🥰🥰
Thx Laura Rose
Hey buckin` put a Westcoast Saw suspension kit on your 500i, that will stiffen it up massively
100% agreed!!!

Awesome insights and cutting Billy. You’re a legend on any and every saw. I’ve learned a lot from your videos. How long of a bar is that? 28?

I got a 462. Sometimes I wish I had got a 500i. Maybe that will be my next saw. Or maybe even a 592 husky.

First like and first comment! That 500 is a monster!
He makes it that way
😮😮
you need a west coast saws fallers suspension kit for it... stiffen it right up
Amazing how many restrictions the Canadians have on their chainsaws when you go test and what the inspectors/proctors can look for
What a beast
You running a 32" or 36"bar on that

I understand what you did, but why not drop them parallel to the road in opposite directions?
Were there power lines I didn't see?
STIHL there the thing is sinister strength torque durability is power is STIHL even has no competition 🔥💪🏻🔥
😂😂😂😂. Stihl is hot garbage
I believe you can change out some
Ive noticed the new age arborists are doing a lot of back bar, what you think about that?
BE KIND
Hey Buckin, question for you. Why do you cut some limbs in half before takin off the log? Is it for ease of clean up or an I missing something?
Compression and tension
What size bar are you using?
Serious question Buckin Billy, what do you use to get pitch off your hands after working with pine, fir and other sappy wood ???
Gas .. but butter is healthier
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith thank you for the info.
Hand sanitizer gets it right off for me
I use regular hand lotion and it doesn't really botherme
Olive oil and sugar.
Do you have any issues with the hemlock wooly Adelgid around ur area? It's destroyed alot of our hemlocks in WV
Hemlock is a garbage wood down low and notorious for rot although mountain hemlock can be nice
Keep culture stong!
west coast saw suspension 3 pt dogs bark box max flow air filter is the sh&t
