- Will the Chainsaw Lancer Return in E-Day? A staple and face of the franchise but in lore, not invented quite yet so..will it return for the story campaign? Let's take a look at some reasons it may or may not.

Answer: the chainsaw lancer will be introduced mid-early to mid game after a long protracted difficulty with the retro lancer bayonet. Marcus and Tais relationship will be fleshed out leading to the invention of a rudimentary chainsaw bayonet, and it will change the mechanics of the game play.
I will probably be something similar to that! Hopefully it flows nicely and its not suddenly, here's this gun now and everyone has it 😅

The idea was had in a grocery store, when Marcus, who was in a losing confrontation with a drone in one of the aisles, in a sort of standing grapple, was saved by Tai after he grabbed a chainsaw from a display, and cut the grub from the grundle up.
We could see another Titanfall 2 smart pistol type situation where the gun comes into play towards the end of the game and just absolutely smacks
YES 👏 It definitely helped turn the tides back towards the COG favor (although the Locust were still dominating) but at least when the Chainsaw Lancer was created they could stand better chances at close quarter combat!
Wait a minute titanfall 2 is a prequel? I'm literally playing it now for the first time and never realized. Barely beat the mission with the time gauntlet

@@BrickedUppNo, it's just that getting the Smart Pistol in Titanfall 2's campaign literally changed the difficulty of the game. It was so busted.
That segment with the smart pistol was so much fun!
I love how the only way to use the bayonet effectively is to get a run up and use your full body weight to force it through the locust hide probably my favourite move in gears tactics
I remember falling in love with that move in Gears of War 3, it was (and still is) so fucking cool! Brutal and savage way to go down in a firefight 😅
I'm thinking 3 ways they'll do this:
A - Lancer will not be introduced in campaign whatsoever
B - Lancer will be introduced mid-game when Tai and Marcus leading to it's invention
C - Following Judgment lead, it'll be there just for gameplays sakes.
(I'm rooting for B ngl)
If any of those, I would def prefer B! Give it to us but let Tai still be vital to the invention!

I feel like the game will take place over the first year of the Locust war and we'll see the Lancer Mk. 2 at the end of the campaign in some capacity. As TC already confirmed that we will see the origins of it.
It would be cool to see it created, but I hope they don't change the origin of it too much! I think its very fitting that Tai came up with the idea in the heat of battle, very fitting to his character! I hope they give us more trailers to breakdown soon 🙏
Probably have e day missions with the retro then a time skip with mk.2 would be pretty cool honestly

We could see prototype at thr end then mark 2
In the books Tai says something like "we must be able to improvise" after just shredding a locust with a chainsaw
In the frame where marcus and dom are looking the burning city dom has a lancer in his hand
After Dom pulls up Marcus we can see that is actually the Mark 1 Retro Lancer he is holding! Had me tilting my head getting a better look at it just in case 😂
Gears will always be one of the best underrated game franchises out there, especially the story mode and story writing. I barely played these games and missed out on the lore since the beginning, and even after getting an Xbox One, I still chose to watch the story on YT. I think the multi-player will never do it for me no matter what generation, but to see this franchise still has a fan base makes me feel good.
I'm super happy the franchise is still kicking at the very least! Hopefully E-Day can give it a nice resurgence, its a super awesome game for the story and multiplayer!

I do like the idea of seeing how a Gears game would play without the Chainsaw Lancer, that's what I initially thought would happen when the trailer released! But idk, its just so iconic and badass everyone wants it despite canon 😂

@@Heyyouhello950 I, of course, care about the lore but we can't deny that the weapon has been in every single game since the beginning! Removing it of course would cause heads to turn and not everyone plays for the "lore" but because it has lots of fun weapons to use! So The Coalition will have to try to make everyone happy in order to achieve a measurable, healthy player base 😄

I think narratively, it makes sense to straight up not have it in the campaign; save it for a multiplayer unlock and/or, as someone else suggested, add it to a mini-campaign/DLC type of deal.
I really hope they don’t just chuck the gun in early game. Having to work with the retro lancer and deal with its okay performance against the locust would fit well with the time the game is set in.
100% agree! I think it would help the game stand out on its own much more if most of the game is with the Retro Lancer as compared to the Mk 2 seen in literally every other game! Let us savor the moment!

My guess if you are playing as Marcus he’ll have an instance where the bayonet breaks off and he grabs a chainsaw to kill some locusts, after that he has the idea to jury rig it onto the lancer which then later on his father makes a more refined version of that is mass produced

Yeah, I think one of the devs said they want to add the "origin" of the gun into this game for players to see the story behind it which would be cool! Just would need to update the origins on the wiki real quick 😂
I hope you can get a headshot with the Lancer in "E-Day," like Cole did in "2". I also hope you can headshot with the Hammerburst like you used to be able to.
Honestly a reciprocating blade like a saws all would make more sense it’s less complex and wouldn’t interfere with your hand placement
The trailer already showed the Mark 1 being used so I imagine we're going to have the Mark 1 for a bit and then the game will probably follow the comics and have a jump a year after E-Day or show how it came to be and its first use (if there smart)
I'm curious how they will work it in with Judgement too, because that game had the Mark 2 Lancer 6 weeks after E-Day and of course the book Jacinto's Remnant dated it a year after E-Day! What will they do with this lore? 😂

If it is following Cannon we will actually probably see the the chainsaw lanser as the game could take place starting off with Eday and end with the start of gears of war 1 we don't actually know but I highly doubt it will be a game souly dedicated to that one day but will probably revolve around the start of the war really showing the struggle that humans were going through
That's true! I guess the assumption in the community is that it will take place 1 day or a week into the war but year it could go farther than that! I wish they would give us more information, we're dying out here for it 😅
Marcus would be in prison before the events of gears of war 1 that means in the end of E-Day he be arrested

From the book 'The Slab' it details the Fall of Ephyra, specifically South Ephyra, where Marcus disobeyed orders and got imprisoned and this took place 10 years after E-Day! Marcus was in 'The Slab' prison for 4 years leading up to Gears of War 1! I don't think we will see 10 years into the war in E-Day but it would still be cool to see!
That's so limiting to the potential of the series. So much happened on e-day, we could absolutely see the game take place on just that day. And then more games in the 14 years leading up to gears 1. We want as much as possible. And I'm actually not gonna be mad at all if the Lancer mkII doesn't show up. I want the game to keep lore solid and not compromise it

They have 14 years before the events of Gears of War 1 and there is a LOT that happened! All I want to see when it comes to weapons in E-Day would be to see some new ones come to the table!

My theory is that we will have the mk1 up until tai saves marcus with a chainsaw as he did in the comics and then we will have the mk2, UNLESS the coalition are just stupid, and if we have gears 5 to go off of they are lmfao
I’m actually excited to see more of the UIR arsenal. They couldn’t have just been using the markza the entire time.
Maybe we will see URI troops and Cog fighting side by side in the face of a common enemy
If anything we'll get the chainsaw lancer at the end of the game if the game takes place over a year and ends with the incident where Tai improvised and used a buzz saw on a grub and subsequently Marcus bringing the idea to his dad, we might at least get a prototype for the last few missions
lol I remember reading in a gears book that the lancer chainsaw was built because bayonets couldn’t get through tough locust skin easily. Shortly after gears 3 dropped and I remember using the retro lancer and being like wtf

I’m sure it will be entertaining all the same, but I will miss the over the top violence of the MK2 chainsaw
Im kinda hoping they will introduce new weapons that the COG use that some are their own or repurposed UIR weapons that while effect lore wise were too costly to keep. That would be a better alternative then just bringing forth the Chainsaw Lancer.
i think gears E-day will take place over the span of a few months. we’ll get a reference to judgement in a mission where baird sends in that missile or whatever and marcus’ and tai’s story will be fleshed out introducing the lancer. i think this cause the multiplayer aspect, it’s not a gears game without the chainsaw gun; even judgment knew this

If you have an Xbox One it should be backwards compatible with all the old and new games! Otherwise PC has Gears 1 Ultimate Edition, 4 and 5! Never too late to get back into the fight 💪

Would be interesting seeing the retro lancer as the main weapon for part of the game considering how different it plays compared to the Mk 2.
It would certainly switch up the multiplayer! I'm remember the days of Gears of War 3 when you could equip it as a starting weapon and immediately get to charging 😂
Yea the lancer wasn’t made yet plus Marcus and dom are not there size they are in gears 1 and two so would difficult to cut threw the locust skin they had to adapt great video love them keep it up ❤

I tbh love the retro lancer from 3 , so seeing it again in e-day I'll be conflicted on how they'll change the bayonet gameplay usage
Even though itd make sense not to have the Chainsaw Lancer, It was in Judgement which is around 6 weeks after E-Day (apparently) and takes place before the Mk2 existed, though its also heavily used throughout the game, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they did use it purely for gameplay purposes because whats gears of war without the iconic weapon?

It could be a cool concept if done right, but I personally think the story centered around the first week of the war would be sick and then have separate story DLCs of different battles across the timeline of the war! 2nd Battle of Jannermont, Fall of Ephyra, etc.

I loved bayonet charging in gears 3, so if I ever get to play E-day I'd be perfectly fine just using a Mk1.

Were it up to me, sort of Retcon, but I’d save the Chainsaw Lancer for the final mission of E-Day campaign
Cause that would be a good finisher in my opinion
I feel like there's gonna be multiple timeskips in the game. So there might be a chance we'll see it later in the campaign. I feel like it'll start at the end of the pendulum wars, the middle of the game STARTS E Day, then later in the game it'll introduce the standard Lancer and the end of the game I believe it'll be when Marcus abandons his post to try to save his father, gets court marshaled, and end with a cutscene that is the beginning cutscene of gears of war 1.
I could see most of that happening except maybe when Marcus abandons his post and gets court martialed! That happens 10 years AFTER E-Day which seems like too far of a jump to me at least! I hope they stick to 1 year after E-Day MAX so they can tell a coherent story enough!
@@CarmineForever oh yeah I know. There's SO much that happens between the beginning of Marcus joining the COG and the beginning of gears 1. I have a feeling that they'll try to tie it with gears 1 like how bungie tied halo reach with halo 1 so it might have MASSIVE timeskips. This game is the halo reach of gears of war.

@@CarmineForever I really hope they give more lore thrown at the commandos since there is next to nothing of what we know compared to the onyx guard. I feel like the commandos are superior to the onyx guard I my opinion. Hopefully we'll see private akagi next to dom and hoffman

The Lancer should def be available in the starter loadout, similar to how Gears of War 3 was in my opinion!
I want the game to follow lore but I love the saw battles or the cool kills I could get with the chainsaw lancer ( I was crazy I mainly used other guns and only used the lancer if I had no other ammo or if I was in a mele range fight)
Gears of War is a great sandbox full of cool weapons! I'm always switching weapons just to see them tear through enemies! The Retro Lancer is an awesome rifle so it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had that the entire campaign 🔥

I love the Chainsaw lancer, but if they decide to keep it canon etc with E-Day I will not complain, I just hope they pull this off as well as I'm expecting 🙏🏽
The Retro Lancer is still a badass weapon to have for the campaign so there's no harm if they decide not to add it! The COG know how to make the best rifles 🔥

It is! Judgement takes place about 6 weeks after E-Day and does have the Chainsaw Lancer, though they do not give any lore reasons as to how this happened. 😅So it's retconned but they also haven't officially overwritten its origin (seen in the book Jacinto's Remnant)!

@@elliottgaal9774 They never specify, it might've worked better if in the campaign they got the Lancer when they went to the Onyx school and found it, but it was just in the game for no reason! No lore reason as to why so E-Day might give us a retcon explanation 😅

I can see as means of breaching heavier UIR armor or something along those lines.
Would be some dark humor stuff if we had to see someone else try to use a prototype of the MK 2 only to be gravely injured while trying to learn it on the field, I mean someone had to test it for bugs 😅 or see it become more and more advanced with suggestions, like the prototype needs to warm up to work or it overheats or clogs up to much. Could be cool to have risk and reward with a new weapon.
If we are getting that then they need to sort out the recoil wow 😮
I like it, we won’t be able to rely on sawing wretches or cheesing grenadiers around corners. I’m sure it’ll show up towards the end of the game. Wouldn’t feel like a gears game without a chainsaw.
Precisely, we should see how difficult it was for the COG with the Retro Lancer at the beginning since the Locust were almost immune to the blade! Then when we finally get ahold of it, we understand why it was so much more valuable!
I feel like a bayonet will not be able to take down some types of locust with a new fan fav gear possibly a carmine introduction and the bayonet will either break or was tried on a enemy to strong resulting in marcus coming up with the chainsaw to avenge the first carmine death.
Waitaminute that would actually be such a cool way to visually show the bayonets ineffectiveness against the strong Locust hide! Just showing a Gear try to slice them and it not do anything would be so cold!
@@CarmineForever Thanks I feel carmine is a fitting gear if they got it right Clayton carmine has became a favorite of mine but sometimes the death approach works. I just hope they don't introduce a strong new member of the cog to kill them off the cog needs more characters like Tai or Barrick in the E day wars fighting the good fight.

There's is a chance that we saw how Tai use the chainsaw and the creaton of the Lancer🗿
TC already said that the game will cover the creation of the chainsaw bayonet. So it will be in the campaign.
Game will likely cover the first year. Each chapter will be a new month.

If they plan on being lore accurate most of the game will probably have the retro lancer and maybe towards the end of the game the mark 2 lancer will come in

I assume the game is going to cover all the years leading up the gears of war 1 so we'll probably see the lancer be made Midway through the game probably or after the first quarter I just hope we get great new weapons and some fun MP
It's a possibility! Gears of War 1 takes place 14 years after E-Day so it would be a lot of time jumping if it did! Although there would be a lot of cool moments, I personally would just love to see it take place over the course of a day or few watching how the city of Kalona fell! 🔥

Man, thinking of the Pre-Osmium coating (Was that the in-universe why it worked in Gears 3/Judgment/On? I know there was something lore-wise) for the Mark 1 Lancer, we... prolly won't get to use the bayonet much if at all. I kinda dig it tho, since I think the Retro is about 50% cooler. Will mis chainsawing enemies early on tho!
I believe it was just Osmium but yes it was used as a coating for the Mark 1 Lancer Bayonets and was found inside the COG armor too! I hope the majority of the campaign is the Retro Lancer, I would love the game to switch things up in that manner!

Wow a gears game without the Lancer is like a Gears without Marcus.
Reason judgement had mark 2 lancer even thought its set 30 days after E-day was just for the purpose of gameplay, since the chainsaw bayonet is a core element of gears of war. Personally, when i played judgement, I just pretend the gears have retro lancers, and i switch to retro lancer moment i came across it to use.
When I play through the games, I do eventually just switch to the Retro for the sake of mixing it up! Unless I'm on Insane difficulty, gotta stick to the best 😅

I think Gears of War E-Day will cover the first couple hours of the Carnage of the Locust and the Incompientcy of the COG. Possible time jumps to show the Inception of the MK.2 thank you Paddrick for telling the leadership that it worked.
Maybe it will lead to 10 A.E and Marcus’s imprisonment and tie into Gears 1.

If I had to guess, the game'll take place starting on E-Day and progress over the next few months and in that time, the chainsaw Lancer will be acquired.
That's what many are speculating! I thought upon seeing the trailer the game was going to take place over the course of the first 2-3 days of the war, but they said they wanted to see the origin on the Lancer so it looks like we are time-jumping a bit!
honest guess will be the invention of the mk2 lancer will be in the game as part of the story. The game will likley span up to when marcus gets put in the bad boy corner

Absolutely adored the point in Gears 3 when you get access to it and after that point I no joke go full Bayonet charge mode and just stick as many Drones as I can find 😂
The charge feature is probably the greatest add-on they've ever added! Whoever came up with that is a legend! Its my favorite thing to do in MP, throw a smoke down and charge in blind 😅

I would be very very happy to see the Retro as the primary armament of the COG
Not sure if they need to have some sort of mechanic about how the blade is technically too fragile to repeatedly pierce though drone skin time and time again but they could honestly just leave it as it was from Gears 3 onwards and that would be fine

@@corditesniffer8020 I think bringing it back towards the Gears 3 power would still work well and be an improvement! The Gears 5 model is just too underpowered and no one picks it up! While I do sometimes to charge, it still isn't the best option to replace either the gnasher or Lancer!

Punch up the recoil to match it but it definitely needs an uptick in lethality

I feel it'll start without the chainsaw as what occured in lore, then as we progress the campaign we'll start seeing it more and more as the C.O.G. adapt to fighting against the locust armies, it'd be nice seeing the retro lancer again that variant was gnarly

Gears be thanking Tai Kaliso for using a chainsaw that Marcus then ask his dad to incorporate it in the Lancer. The rest is history ( smaller bullet but higher carrying capacity and so good that some Locust elite used it)
That higher ammo capacity is important, the Locust were called a horde for a reason, there were A LOT of them! No time to reload when a pack of wretches and drones are on top of you 😅
@@CarmineForever although stopping power was sacrificed for the larger ammo cap, Gears be winning in a long range firefight in ideal conditions.

Time jump? Maybe in a dlc so it can be added on multiplayer
I think regardless we will have it in the multiplayer but time jumps are a possibility! I would love more story DLCs if anything, more stories out there to explore!
I think they could alter it’s history but keep in the game. Say tai used his ida earlier in battle against humans
That's what I'm hoping for, keep the origin the same but shift the timeline!
WEAPONS will be COG vs INDI meaning:
Small glock style weapons
A more commen variation of the shotgun
An SMG or two
faster bolt action sniper rifle like the markza, before the Longshot Rifle with its single powerful round to pierce locust skulls
Against locust it’ll feel futile to fight with in campaign, but in PvP it’ll definitely be fun with the access of more human weaponry
I feel like we might see it half way through the game, WE MIGHT SEE TAI AGAIN

Like it was said from the development team it isn’t a gears of war without the Chainsaw Lancer
I’m sure it will 100% be in the multiplayer and who knows the game may take place in multiple time jumps throughout the game or DLC Campaign’s
I initially thought they were going to try to make the campaign work without it and just have it in the multiplayer, but it seems The Coalition want to try to introduce it in the story with a new origin story so we'll see what they do 😅
They probably will retcon the time it took to make the chainsaw bayonet but not how the idea for it came to be
I think the same! Tai should still be the one to come across the "idea" for it as it perfectly fits his character!
