- Watchhouse (Mandolin Orange), Punch Brothers and Sarah Jarosz perform "Wildfire" at the Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots Festival 2022 in Manchester, VT. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions. Audio by Bill K.
"Pride has a way of holding to firm to history".... What an amazing song. I'm 70 years old and a lifelong concert attending music lover, the three hours I spent with this amazing group of musicians just may have been the best 3 hours of live music in my life. It far exceeded my already high expectations. 3rd time seeing Sarah in the last 3 years, solo, with I'm With Her, and then with this group. She is a treasure!!
I tear up and have joy at the same time.... This song is so profound now....
I too, am 70 and swayed, rejoiced and was just amazed as to this set that late afternoon. GMBR is always amazing with stuff like this being the norm. Collaboration, community as Jill supports as she and John create this festival.
I was sitting there too just a few feet away. Yes ,almost 3 hours of some of the finest music i've heard. A magical combination of great musicians. And , a southernor Andrew Marlin from North Carolina writing this civil war song from his point of view is just great.
Sarah is a real treasure, so talented, for sure. But every single musician at this stage is a bless for those old guy like us, nowadays where good song seems to be disappearing.
@@thaddeusk4230 Another 70 year old music lover guitar player and the old soul wisdom and lyrics of these folks is something else Wolves too is very mature
three mandolins together is just my idea of heaven
This is written about our country from the perspective of a native of Warren County North Carolina (named for Joseph Warren), the county of Andrew’s childhood. Andrew’s dad is a local high school history teacher. It was the desire to bring positive love to this beautiful part of NC that drew us here in 2020. We now try to bring people together through music in love and understanding here at Five Forks Farm.
The joy in Andrew's face during the multi mandolin solo...
This might potentially become the most culturally significant song in bluegrass history. The 'Ripple' of bluegrass in my opinion.
Agreed! Such a timeless, wonderful, topical song.
Its a very good feeling seeing so many talented people I love, together doing what they do best ! It's a real privilege.
This song is really a song for our time.
I was there, sitting at their feet. Doesn't get any better!!! Brilliant...delicious.
😊
this is music that heals every wound
Insanely good. Oh, what I would give to see these people live.
At its best, playing and/or singing with others is like merging into a single consciousness.
Joy to the nth power.
Best Festival Ever!!! I am definitely going back next year! Watch this video several times because it gets better each time! THANK YOU GREEN MOUNTAIN BLUEGRASS AND ROOTS FESTIVAL!!
I go back 82 years listening to music, no style in particular, just appreciating. In my opinion this ranks with the best; it was just wonderful.
that mando section incredible.
do you listen to Jean de luc Ponty?
What a great festival! GMBR is in my humble opinion the best bluegrass festival ever. Punch Bros and Mandolin Orange... Oops! Watchhouse are doing their thing together. I'm so glad I got to see it. This is my happy place.
Shhhhhhhhh
Bluegrass is going high tech this millenium: TWO MICROPHONES
The artistic freedom on display here makes me so jealous I can’t describe it. There is no feeling like performing music with talented folks and losing yourself in it.
Preach bruva!
This performance tears me up and gives me joy at the same time... Toooo much talent on that stage. :)
WOW
Really great traditional bluegrass is just a click away with less than face productions they know their craftwell.🎶. I regularly look forward to what's new from them I'm never disappointed 🤘 no phony stuff just .... Good music.
Thanks Tiger Man! We appreciate it.
magic
Wonderful! Amazing! Great! Thank you!
Wounderful ❤ it lifted my soul during a dark time . Ty
What a line up.
I was at this festival. Super hot and sunny in the afternoon, but I still had a blast especially when these guys came on.
From the ashes grew sweet liberty, like the seeds of the pines when the forest burns, they open up to grow and burn again.
Andrew Marlin is the songwriting genius of our time...
Each version gets better. They are naturally all good musicians but after handful of shows The chemistry and the decision on who will take the reigns for the brief but powerful solos has really evolved into a super group. Love the trio Mando build up they now anticipate and the simplicity of single word backing vocals that in harmony are so powerful.
Wildfire indeed! That was f'in amazing.
Awesome as always!!!
That is crazy...
That went somewhere special, huh? The 3 mandolin jam was Outstanding.....not to mention the Song. I've a feeling they're gonna be Mighty Poplar.
WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE. just this, THANK YOU!
Bad Assed Grass Kids. This is the shit. I love it ❤
Omg, awesome! His voice!!!! Perfect!
"Too much money rolled in to ever end slavery"....sums it up pretty damn well. Pisses me off every time I think about it.
Great audio Bill
Love this song , what a performance 🔥
Well that's just awesome
Absolutely love the string arrangement here, put the biggest lump in my throat, so much feeling. Incredibly talented musicians, waiting for Watchouse to come to Ontario Canada
Fantastic and powerful song with superlative musicians. Blown away even. I'd love to see a new 'White Mansions' (1978) concept LP come together soon. These folks with this song would be a standout. How 'bout it anyone? And then there's this- another American civil war is not that remote a possibility any longer
Oh damn! This is the good stuff right here, nice work
Simply amazing music. (actually not simple but amazing)
Well now, I really love this particular song, but it appears there are a few quite notable others that share my appreciation for it.
Bad Assed tune, June 🎉
What fun it must have been to have played on stage with them.
This is AWESOME
Chills when I hear this song!!!!!!!!
Excellent.... plus
fantastic
What a great, sad song.
tears me up... seems profound now..
Lovely 🎶🌈
You know, I swore Tommy Lee was the hardest working man in show biz but Mr. Thile is every bit as assertive and rocks my heart every time he twists and taunts that poor instrument 🥳
I Like it.
Mind you Tommy Lee, can beat the drums upside-down but Thile might as well toooooo.
Perfect
wow ❤❤❤
Brilliant
What’s better than one mandolin? You guessed it. Three mandolins.
Triple mandolin solo. Yes.
So bummed that we didn't get to see the American Acoustic tour, but grateful these vids exist! We've seen Watchhouse, Punch Bros, and SJ independently, but it would have been amazing to see them all on one stage.
Glad youre enjoying the vids!
Somebody’s hitting the *perfect* harmony on “wildfire.” Might be the seventh, I can’t quite tell. I think it’s Chris. Either way, it’s magical.
I think it's the major 2nd, held throughout
and my best guess is it's Sarah J doing it
@@andyroth619 it does sound like Sarah
Moving performance by extremely high watt talent. Favorite section was the mandolin ménage à trois evident by 4:23.
How does this only have 264 likes?!?
Worth it just for Emily in a ball cap!
I am feeling my poors with my A-type now though.
Great comment! She looks great in the cap!
My Grass Is Blue-Boo 😊
3:06 There's an arco trio of Gabe, Nate, and Paul. This is every bit as chewy as a Beethoven string quartet. I was at two of the shows, and remember chills running down my spine as it happened.
One request Bill: during this part, your video focuses only on Gabe and Nate, but Paul's playing is wontedly honey sweet and in some ways is the special sauce of the trio. Also, watching him play with sublime tone way up the fingerboard is a visual treat in itself - please don't shortchange him for camera time.
But when the mandolin trio starts up, with the arco accompaniment behind it at about 4:00. This is as good as music, any music, ever gets. The richness and intensity of the music drives the lyrics and their message into you, and you are never quite the same ever again. At least, I wasn't.
P.S. If there's a Second Civil War, don't say that Andrew Marlin didn't warn us.
Whoa
Very Good! sometimes less is more...
And sometimes more is just enough!
Wow. Sarah showing the boys how it is done at the 4:00 minute mark
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a lineup. But the song?
They may be Watchouse but thay Mandolin sure is sounding. orange
Are any of them actually from the South I wonder.
Yup. The singer, Andrew Marlin and the fiddle player Emily Frantz are from NC. Andrew wrote and sings this song from his personal perspective...from the heart!
Sarah Jarosz Wimberley, TX
OK thanks.
I mean, it feels a little voyeuristic around 4:05. Tell me that Chris, Andrew, and Sarah aren't making love with each other.
All right they're not most definitely not .we're simply putting forth music pings and tings
The old saying "Too many cooks spoil the broth." applies to this performance of what is one of Andrew's greatest songs.
No Slaves here anymore... ya right!
nice song, historically incorrect
Get off the couch everyone.... Learn to play a musical instrument. It will be worth it!🎵🎶🎵
a bunch of semi literate doing lyrics
no mandolin left behind!!
