As a huge fan of the film Call me By Your Name which is my favorite film and where Mystery of Love comes from written by Surfjan Stevens, as well as a fan of Watchhouse (also my favorite band), and I was beyond thrilled and utterly happy to see this song performed with you all. Big thanks to the Punch Brothers and Watchhouse for covering this beauty! It’s an incredible arrangement and I can’t get enough of it.
@@randalbladel2817 he's also probably the greatest living mandolinist. Great, giving fella, but technically to have to play with him and keep up with him would be both a thrill and a nightmare :)
@@KSpirit54 it's in the ear of the beholder I guess. I don't know enough about Andrew to comment any further. Thile is pretty unanimously regarded as the best in the world, so if Andrew is equal to the best in the world he's doing pretty well.
I am always so happy to see new Punch Brothers content, and this cover was such a wonderful blend of the two bands! Hope to see you all perform at the Suwanee Roots Revival in October!
Not quite the same thing, but I did get to serve Chris and his wife in a restaurant once-nicest, most genuine, laid back people. Sometimes you meet your hero and they’re totally the person you’d hoped they’d be.
One time I saw punch brothers in Kansas City I think, and Chris was going off on a solo that was mind melting, and someone yells, "He's an Alien !", and Chris makes an alien impersonation while still playing the solo. It was hilarious 😂
My wife sent me the IG story on this and was so excited to find the whole thing here, we’ve seen you live several times please come to S Carolina again
punch brothers and sufjan stevens are two of my favourite bands, this arrangement is so good holy shit!! ill have to check out watchhouse too this was gorgeous
@@Stickykeys2010 i just watched both chris's play in the live from here performance! thats so cool tho i never knew he recorded it, thank u for sharing
Do yourself a favor and check out Watchhouse, formerly known as Mandolin Orange. Suggest you start with the TH-cam stuff of their Red Rocks concert, stunning.
Oh good! I was worried the name change might stall Andrew and Emily's career. Touring with Chris, Sarah & Co. will surely prevent that! Fantastic news.
very nice, what could have been a cacophony of skilled musicians was instead perfect ebb and flow of restraint and harmonizing. I could hear each person clearly. smiled the entire song thank you
"Feel my feet upon the ground. Heart of God, deliver me. " Does anyone else feel like you can't keep your feet on the ground? Wish I could figure it out.
Oh my goodness. Two of my favorite bluegrass bands, making a cover of one of my favorite singers.
I must have died and gone to Elysium.
I feel the same way....big fan of all 3 artists.

Is it too soon to start referring to Chris as a National Treasure? Has anyone done more in the digital age to bring this music to the world?
He is the soul of us.
The way I ran to the interwebs to see when and where! Those shows will be ones to remember!! ❤️
I’ll be at American Acoustic on August 5th! AND I get to stop at Gryphon Stringed Instruments first, what a day!
Two of my favorite mandolin players on one stage.
I would have killed to be here. My two favorite bands.
They’re touring!
I can't imagine many things more daunting than having to play mandolin alongside Chris Thile
Except that he seems to be such a nice guy, with no hint of arrogance, and a surfeit of appreciation for the music of others.

Wow ...i have never heard anyone do a Sufjan Stevens song before ... his music is so incredibly ephemeral ... it was well done !
Chris Thile played on the original recording of this song, just a fun fact :)
Can’t wait to see you both AGAIN in 2022 in Oregon!!
I am always so happy to see new Punch Brothers content, and this cover was such a wonderful blend of the two bands! Hope to see you all perform at the Suwanee Roots Revival in October!
Solid. Gorgeous adaptation.
So utterly gorgeous. So glad you were all able to reschedule the Toronto tour stop - can't wait to see you in December!!
I wish Chris Thile was my best friend!!!!
He IS my best friend! (He just doesn't know it yet...lol) 😂
I’d settle for one chill jam session 😉
I got to play w him at Mark O’Connor fiddle camp!

It sounds like early Genesis with Chris Thile in Peter Gabriel's place. Genius is timeless

This is everything I love.

That was truly beautiful. Imagine hearing that and walking outside and looking up at that mountain.

You're killing me Smalls... PLEASE get some gigs in the southeast!!!!
My word - so fantastic. As expected of course!
Beautiful rendition of this beautiful song- the upright bass and the fiddles sound especially great. Wish I could catch a show but maybe next time!
Dream collab!
What a dream combination these two band are!
Beauty...just beauty...
Holy Rice Crispy Cereal! Ghat was gorgeous! Thank you for your musically linguistic souls! 💖💖💖 Sincerely, a faerie who wandered by… 🧚🏻♀️
Did not know I needed this cover.
My top two bands. 😭 I'm in heaven.
Loving the Béla tuner! 🙂
I'd love to see the American Acoustic tour, but it doesn't stop anywhere in the Midwest! 😥
Will be seeing their show with Sarah in two weeks in Missoula, MT and it's only a six hour drive each way!
So mind blown they are coming to my hometown in a couple weeks!
Gorgeous.
Oh hell yeah.
Wow what a wonderful version of this mystic song, it works so good that I forgot it wasn't a record! Smile all over my face, tremendous work!
Great pairing! Love that you chose a Sufjan song too!
I'm so bitter about living in another country I wanna watch that show sooo bad😭😭😭
Just love you guys!!!!
Thile is in the pocket. It's his super power.
Beautiful ✨
YESSSSSSSSSS! EXCELLENT!!!!! BRAVO! MAGIC!

Stay the course.

exquisite
Seamless ! Why did it have to end???
Beautiful. Can't help but notice how Chris' fingers seem to strecth almost the entire length of the fret board.
Cos he’s basically a mythical creature
wow
fuck. im high and this took me back with him… 💔
but DAMN ITS GOOD SHIT MAN!!!! the BEST cover ever!
We gonna talk about Chris in that black shirt? 🥵
Purdy!
Anyone figure out the mandolin tabs here?
the strings are arranged extremely well... to put it mildly.
Andrew had to break out the Loar for this collab...
Chris even sounds like Sufjan.

I didn't know Shia Labeouf played mandolin.
