I have 1998 V70 with 200,000. Original tranny that never had fluid replaced. Still runs great.
Not gonna run great for long if you don’t maintain it
@@jimmiles33 Flushing tranny on old vehicle with lots of miles could be a death sentence. I learned the hard way... I just make sure the level stays where it should be....200,000 is a lot of miles I already got.
False about old transmission fluid changes. That's that old 50's and 60's info along with 3,000 mile oil changes.
@@RobertDIY I owned many cars in my 70 plus years of life and I never ever had my tranny flushed. I never had any issues either. As for the engine oil, I change it myself, every 5,000 miles. I use top of the line oil and the best filter.
Pre owned Volvos have been great to us, I drive my parents old 1999 S70 now and actually discovered your channel by looking into taking the glove compartment door off to replace it with a new one! The locking mechanism broke. Who knows what I'll encounter I may just need to follow along for tips on my own car.

Thank you Robert for all the great videos ! Still driving my 1998 Volvo S70 here in Canada close to London Ontario . Unfortunately I'm in the rust belt . Ive driven this car for about 23 years now . I'm planning on driving it for a least another year or so , its just such a fine car in every regard ! Hope your doing well and that you are able to do some serious fishing this season ! Thanks again Robert from one Volvo guy to another !
This would be the perfect car for you. Take the rust free body, put in your good drive train, and keep rolling.
nice video man, i own a 2000s s70 2.4 liter and i love it, your channel has helped out alot with getting info
glad to help.
I had an s70 t5 se, nicest car I owned. It was a total sleeper, and suprised a more than a few people inside, and out.
Nice, very good cars
Your eye looks much better. The car is like a LOVE song, just needs lots of LOVE
a lot
Hi Robert thank you for doing these videos on s70 Volvos as that’s what I own, I have referenced your videos a few times they are straight forward instructional do it yourself
So thankful I found your vids
Hope you have a great week 👍👏🏼
Thanks for your support
I love SD. Be safe out and about
thanks
Crazy how many parts are missing on the red car under the hood. I’ll admit I haven’t worked on Volvos a whole lot, but I know enough about them to know what it should look like under the hood and I can absolutely see all the parts you mentioned that are missing and whatever else is left in a total state of disrepair.
😆🤦🏾♂️
I have a V70 with the transmission that goes D43L (5 speed) and supposedly the worst one, a 2000, but with 68k miles. I like driving it a lot more than the one from a 1999 (4 speed). The shifts are super smooth and the shorter gearing really helps acceleration. Having torque converter lockup in 3rd at 29 mph is super useful, where the D3L transmission only locks the converter in 3rd at 39 mph. Those 4 speeds rely too heavily on the torque converter for torque multiplication in my view. They're almost constantly slipping by 500-1000 rpm, even when you're just driving down the road at 35 or 45 mph. The 5 speed is much tighter feeling. Once you get going they hardly ever slip by more than 500 rpm. The thing that kills me with the 5 speed is that you don't get top gear until 43 mph ... but in the 4 speeds, you get top gear at 28 mph, even though it's the same ratio.
Slipping 500-1000, what does that mean? I have not driven the 5 speeds that much but most 4 speeds that I drive, like Lemonade and Queen Bee, man those shift very smooth to me. With good mounts I really don't feel them shift unless I really have my foot in them.
@@RobertDIY engine speed = 2400 rpm, transmission input shaft speed = 1900 rpm, TC slip = 500 rpm. The extra slip wastes fuel, wastes power, and generates a lot of heat. Cooler can deal with the heat though. It's not the most desirable thing for the torque converter to slip more than needed. I'm guessing the ultra tall gearing on the 4 speed forces the higher slip. And you are right; a healthy AW50-42 does have imperceptibly smooth shifts as well!
Interesting video. Thank you! @24:54 Uh oh URO. Lol
lol
Robert, do these transmissions have a filter? I don't think I have evet seen a video of one being changed.
No

On the next episode of Hoovie's garage, I buy the cheapest Volvo S70 T5 in the USA! 😂
It was pretty cheap. 🤷🏾♂️
@@RobertDIY I wonder if Hoovie would buy this car
Anyone know if there is a PC/Windows emulator of this Volvo scanner?
🤔
VolFCR should get you what you need.
@@jimmiles33 😎👍
Wouldn't it be nice if every viewer clicked the thumbs-up button? :>)
Yes
Clutch frictions and coolant don't play well together.
😂

thanks
It’s a Parts car

My dad had a 98 red on tan T5 like this with 100k less miles but was a manual. Unfortunately it got totaled when someone turned in front of him
