I agree. I had to help move my sister across country, with my wife and 6 months old. I was able to load everything in our Mazda 6 wagon. We couldn't even put half of it in her Saturn Vue
My daily is a 2005 V70R. It's such a great vehicle. Biggest gripe is the turning radius. It's horrible. Pickup truck bad. Mine needs some work before I offer it up to you for review. But 300 HP Turbo 5 cylinder with AWD in a well-proportioned wagon is such a treat. It pulls very well and handles great. Everything is built so well. Just have to deal with the quirks of having a 20 year old European car.
These were cool because they could range from a utilitarian car to a luxury car based on how they were spec'd. I had a non-turbo with cloth manual seats in college and it was near Toyota levels of reliable. On the flip side you could get the V70R with 300hp, AWD, and active suspension. Obviously way more exciting but you'd need to spend thousands on maintenance each year. Modern-day volvos have gone so far upmarket that they don't make a single car that's reliable, utilitarian, or affordable anymore (at least in the US).
It really does have that toyota durability feeling for sure. I trust that its gonna start up and get me where i need to go every time i turn the key.. leaking oil, occasional transmission issues and random bouts of rough idles included - i just trust it.
I f-in' LOVE Volvo. They're so cool man. Long live turbo wagons. (Edit: I have two of these inline 5-cylinder engines, a turbo in the C30 hatchback and a naturally aspirated S40 manual trans. CAN CONFIRM that the engine growl is completely unique, and so is the low, torquey grumble they make at the bottom end. Imagine 230 boosted hrsprs in a hatch, that thing cooks.)
My daily driver is a V70 2.4 NA, makes 170hp and with the 5-spd manual it's a really nice car. This car is of the "classic" type which is the last model year of a generation of cars, so it is model year 2008. Just over 100,000 miles on mine and other than regular maintenance and stuff you would expect, it's been dead reliable.
how is it living with the 5-speed? I'm planning on getting a similar car, how is it on fuel consumption? How's the RPM at highway speeds? Have you had any suspension issues, I've seen a lot of people talk about that.
@@wilemr1337 At 75 miles per hour (120km/h) RPM is at exactly 3000 in 5th gear. I'm getting a fuel consumption of around 6-10L/100km. 6 on country roads, 10 in city driving. Highway is somewhere in between, say around 8l/100km, so roughly 30mpg. That's what I am getting at least when driving smoothly. I haven't had any suspension issues other than the back springs needed to be replaced because they were rusting out. Other than that it has been fine.
@@tobias_dahlberg Thank you for the quick answer! 3000 RPM at 120 feels very reasonable, and the fuel consumption really isn't as bad as I thought either! Good to hear that the suspension has held up. Sounds like a really nice car, might need to get one if a nice one comes up. Thank you again!
I drive a 2001 V70 2.4T 190hp and you summed the car up very well! It can be sporty and fun, it can be quiet comfortable and luxurious .. it can be a workhorse, a transporter or a weekend warrior. I got it with 180,000 miles almost 3 years ago and today its about to click over 230,000. I have loved every trip in my V70! The p2 body style is getting cooler by the minute if you ask me.
These are so nice! I have an 03 s80 as my daily I’m restoring that has the lil wipers for the headlights. I’m looking to get a Volvo wagon to pair it with. Great cars but definitely expensive when things need replacing
Used to have V70 T5. Now I have V70 2.5T AWD 2003 'cause I live in Finland and awd is much needed at wintertime. More needed than 250 hp in front wheels. 209 hp is just fine. Also have a S40 2.4i 2007 as a summercar.
I love how you said just tap the dash. And you just form a bond. My 04 2.5T v70 is "LITERALLY" the mechanism of fine tuning and engineering. The retro feel of the tape deck down to the defroster button. Which is like god blowing on your windshield when it's frozen solid. It's just a vehicle of it's own. It's hard to explain. But you Volvo fans know what I mean.
Volvo is one of the last manufactures to offer station wagons in the USA/ Station wagons offer many advantages, so you don't need a big SUV
I agree. I had to help move my sister across country, with my wife and 6 months old. I was able to load everything in our Mazda 6 wagon. We couldn't even put half of it in her Saturn Vue
SUVs are a massive scam.
I belive in wagon supremacy. I daily a 850 TDI wagon. Best dakn wagon ever
Subaru as well with the outback
Audi, mini cooper, bmw, Mercedes and, of course, Subaru all still have wagons available in the US.
The V in V70 stands for versatility. So yes, you nailed it in your summary. I love these cars.
Way better than "Regular Car Reviews"
Thanks Zack!

Mmm I don’t know. There’s room for both. I’m sure Zack wouldn’t hate on RCR
Regular Car Reviews' personality gets grating real quick.
@@theglowcloud2215 So, you mean it's abrasive, no?
Agreed, lately the furry bs and even more outlandish claims got the better of him.
This bringing back memories. My Brother in law used to own a auto business back in the early 2000s and these were his bread and butter.
I was a teen in the 90s, and I aspired to someday have a Volvo 850 wagon.
Same. I got a V70 instead....

Funny because my C30’s turning circle is also really bad
What are the biggest quirks?
My folks had an XC70 from the same year - the cross country version, with AWD and a raised ride height. It was a great car.
YESSS! I have an 04 2.5T, such a fun car. The T5 is a dream
As a swede, I approve this excellent review
05 XC70 wagon owner here - great video! Very rare V70 by the way. Also, the front passenger seat folds down for even greater storage capacity
If I were to get a wagon, Volvo would be at the top of my list.
It’s just about the only ones left in the affordable price range lol.
Same

I rented a mid range xc90, and I wouldn't say it was exceptionally luxurious. Any loaded mainstream brand would be as nice.

1:29 - And GM, which put a 5-cyl in Colorado/Canyon/H3T.
Audi as well. They still have a 5 cylinder engine (it's probably the last modern 5 cylinder engine left) in the RS3.
@damilolaakanni He mentioned VW and I just grouped Audi under that umbrella.
Ford, Mercedes, and Acura have also experimented with 5 cylinder engines
That thing has held up amazingly for being TWENTY years old holy shit.
Got my 2001 V70 T5 for $1,800, beat up and neglected. Got it running okay and it refuses to die (230k miles). Sooooo comfortable. Love the turbo.
Don’t allow anything to pass!
Kinda late but you forgot the build in booster seats in the back bit still a great a video keep up the good work man
Still a good-looking car. Maybe not as iconic as its predecessors but still recognizably Volvo.
You missed the feature of the two optional built in booster seats that this car has 😢
I have a S60R with the space ball manual with… 332k miles. It’s still solid.
Getting this next week... excited to drive one
That car looks so great & sinister...especially with those wheels!
Man I miss my P2 V70...
ITS HERE
I saw an older one of these with “wood” paneling the other day
Nice video I enjoyed watching the video

Spectacular condition.....
Which is more reliable, v70 or xc90?
It's 2.4ltr 260hp in uk
Could u fit a 4 wheeler in the back with the 2nd row folded down
Those old Volvo wagons are so sexy
When VOLVO were still great,
Day 2 of asking Zack when he will be in California
Yes
I like these cars. Just about all wagons. Solid. Who cares about wagon haters. Better looking than a plastic potato.❤💙💜🧡😎👌
Volvos are a bit of a niche brand, but overall the Swedish automotive marques are niches compared to their German or British counterparts.
fun fact! Gus bring drove one
I think the 'W' button stands for 'Winter' ....many cars have a snowflake ❄️ symbol, which is more common.
Jeg har en 2004 T5 i Dk med en del mere udstyr
Har motoren hydrauliske ventil løftere ?
Poor turning circle but you just back into parking spaces, then no problem
💪
I`m importing one of these from Japan... way cheaper than anything of the same spec and age.
If it doesn’t have three rows of bench seat glory….its not a real wagon lol 😂
WAGON ELITEST JERKS HAVE ENTERED THE CHAT
My review: light steering, slightly wollowy, eats tyres and made me smile very very much!
Owned a 2004 ex police manual, fkin great car
Shameful it’s a automatic
These autos aren’t that bad. You should see the older Volvo autos
Love volvo but this is an ugly car
God will punish you
