my mom drinks 1.5 liters of pepsi a day for about 40 years and smokes almost a pack a day. Recently she has had to get all her teeth removed. Stop eating it for a while
I promise it'll stop tasting good
The reason it tastes good is you're harboring bacteria that feed on it. Stop feeding them. Foster bacteria which like fresh produce. Your tastes will change with no further effort
I used to love root beer, favorite drink by far. Now I can't even drink the low sugar 'natural' stuff we sell at the vegan cafe at which I work. I can still remember how it used to taste and yet when I drink it..? Gross. I'm like a grandpa except I'm 27, dawg.
Same with salt. Everybody thinks salt makes things taste good. ...it makes things taste like salt. You're just addicted to salt. Now a days if I eat too much salt I can feel my tongue burning. I have to chug down water 'cuz I can feel it dehydrating me. Literally my tongue hurt for two days once after eating some salted pistachios, no joke.
Things taste good because you eat them. Similar foods have similar constituent parts ergo your body can 'recognize' 'new' foods and still think they taste good. But if you want something to stop tasting good stop eating it.
Sugar tastes good 'cuz our parents let us eat sugar. Stop eating sugar. You've heard of 'acquired tastes'...? I know you know tastes can change over time, especially when prompted
Dawg, I wish people knew how sweet carrots were....... But nobody knows 'cuz they don't come out of the ground soaked in a sticky substance and then sand blasted with sugar crystals.
You can experience carrots as sweet and then still go eat a ton of dates (80% sugar by volume, basically if maple syrup was a fruit) and come back tomorrow to eat more carrots and they still taste sweet.
But you'd never know if you eat Twix. Sugar is a hulluva drug
It's like a cig smoker. Damn it cigarettes, why are you so goooooooooood....?
...'cuz you inhale 12 of the bastards every day.
Also, because you're smoking mass marketed billion-dollar industry cigarettes and not smaller scale higher quality pipe tobacco, but that's not the point

This is good to know because going to the dentist is never fun. Plus you don't have to worry about being sold services you don't need. My mother had "deep cleaning" and has pain because of it. • @rjb1122
      @rjb1122 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, I think this "deep cleaning" is a scam by the dental profession. They charge a lot of money for it, and call it "scaling and root planing". In some cases it is no different than a regular dental hygiene visit for teeth cleaning, but by calling it "scaling and root planing" they can charge a LOT of money.

rjb 112 I see. I work in the dental field, but I can understand where you're coming from. The fees for scaling can be higher than the ”regular” cleaning (since they are done in multiple appointments to ”clean” two quadrants at a time). The reason scaling is charged more is because the pockets are deep between the teeth and gums, which will require extra work and set of tools. Regular cleanings will not be able to reach down far enough to clean the ”space, ” therefore, the chances of infection or root canal are high. I'm hoping the goal for all dental offices is to save as much teeth as possible.

The last time I went to my dentist he said all was well. I asked him how many my age that he had seen are filling free. He said only a handful in over 25,000 patients. So you too can achieve this 99% percentile ranking at middle age with really minor effort but with real discipline.

I've been eating whole food plant based for 9 years, no sugar. I hadn't had cavities in years (even while eating terribly) so I neglected to go the dentist from 2014-2018 because I didn't have insurance and I figured it was all right since I was eating so healthy. Finally went last year and had to get 6 fillings. It's obvious to me that it's not just about diet and it's not about sugar, at least for my family.

This video is quite interesting. All the foods I ate did not have sugar in them while I was in the United States I went to the Dentists he told me I have 4 cavities. I was absolutely shocked. It turned out that the bread I was eating had a huge amount of added sugars in it. I ate 1 kg of bread/day and 50grams of it was added sugar. So sad if you do not eat added sugars your teeth will not have cavities. There is also work being done on restorative dentistry. There is a pill given to people that speeds up the dentin formation of the tooth. If you reduce the sugar intake to 0 and get more vitamin D there have been even cases where dental carriers have been reversed. There is also 1 special type of bacteria that causes carriers what you can kill if you eat garlic cinnamon and abstane from eating added sugar foods. If you do eat foods with sugar then make sure to rinse your mouth with water that is what I always do.

problem is the concentration. You are missing out on the accompanied fluid which helps "wash away" the sugar. Instead you create pockets in your mouth wich are heavily alkaline, a milieu in which bacteria flourish. So combined with the dried fruit, it also becomes a problem, even though it's natural.
Having a good saliva production, "brushing" your teeth with you tongue and not breathing through your mouth should help, though

Reducing free sugar to less than 5 percent of calories seems perfectly reasonable and practical. Combined with flouride toothpaste, that should lead to dramatic reductions in cavities. But for many people, that isn't good enough. Young children with newly erupted secondary dentintion are uniquely vulnerable to cavities, because the enamel of secondary dentition ("adult" teeth) is not yet fully mineralized.

The real issue is that sugar lowers the pH level of your mouth and creates a highly acidic environment where the bacteria 'Streptococcus mutans' can thrive. So the issue is not sugar in itself, but acid. So avoid ANY foods that contain processed (cane) sugar, including artificial sweeteners, cookies, cakes, and drinks like coffee can also raise the acid. Also, why do you only eat fruit on occasion? Fruit contains fibers and help to preserve the alkalinity of your mouth, reducing acid and raising the pH level. Not to mention fruits are loaded with vitamin C and other beneficial nutrients.

Even with small amounts of sugar in the diet, caries are preventable with proper oral hygiene but most people don't brush properly or floss daily. Not saying sugar is good but if you disrupt the bacteria before it's calcified, plaque can't form or mature which leads to formation of cavities and periodontal disease. You can also eat a buffer food with something sweet to counteract a critical drop in pH (anything below 5.5 softens enamel) like a protien or fat which is cariostatic. Most hygienists reccomend cheese, but I don't eat cheese I use peanut butter with fruit sometimes.

I will say the acid in pop is brutal though, if I would cut out anything it would be pop. Especially sipping over long periods of time. "Streptococcus mutans" is the bacteria that causes tooth decay. This bacteria can thrive if the environment in your mouth is highly acidic. Drinking coffee every day is also acidic. And you can lower the pH level and raise the acid from more than just drinking soda. Avoid candies and sweet sugary foods. Cakes, pies, cookies. Avoid them as much as you can. If you aren't eating these then you may need to take a close look at everything you eat, and ask yourself what has cane sugar added. And cut those out. If you are sticking closely to a WFPB diet then eating a lot of fruit (and drinking alkaline water) will help to raise the pH level of your mouth. But avoid coffee, alcohol and cane sugar.

That's good. Your body has been conditioned to ring "alarm bells" if you take in something that it knows will cause damage. Most people who are addicted to sugar are so de-sensitized that their body doesn't even make them feel the pain.

I just watched the other video on best sugars and I'm already using molasses in my tea, but at 15 gms of sugar per tablespoon is that too much? Or does adding Date Sugar and Molasses not promote cavities? In order to get close to 1% of caloric intake I'd need to limit molasses to under 1 teaspoon daily, but what about the raisins or dates I add to my oatmeal? will they promote cavites too?

Use stevia in the tea. While date sugar is healthier than regular sugar, I wouldn't count on it to reduce cavities.

taguardian yes. I brushed my teeth as a kid. I once had 7 cavities in one freaking tooth. I had to undergo several root canals and fillings. No fillings on my adult teeth. The problem is that no kid really knows how to brush their teeth. And no one tells them they can’t have a lollipop when the bank hands one to them.

Acids are still detrimental to the tooth enamel. Also, it's not that fructose "isn't bad", it's that fructose is bound to fiber. Refined fructose is actually not so great for the body.

Why is fruit sugar not a problem? Especially seeing as how selective agriculture has dramatically increased the size and sugar content of fruit. I had a mango the other day and it was ridiculously sweet. Too sweet to be enjoyable. Is that not a problem?

FreeGoro there’s a difference between sugar and added sugar. Even if it is the same type. Has to do with absorption rates, proportion’s, and even the form of the sugar.
