    Beautiful car !!
I had a 1986 Town Car Base Non-Signature Series. Mine had every option before the signature series. I had the keyless buttons on the door, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc.. I even had the carriage roof option. I do like your vinyl roof better because you get the opera light. That’s a nice touch I like on a luxury car.

Beautiful car as is! Elegant simplicity, leave it as original and avoid temptation to add the unneeded SS chrome bling. She is well equipped and possesses a n understated grace. My humble opinion.

Been watching your videos for a while now, seeing how nice the first generation Town Cars are, and it makes me want to save up the money to try to buy my grandparents old 1989 Signature Series off my uncle and fix it up. It hasn’t run in over 10 years and the last time I remember it being driven was when my uncle took it on a trip and came home with a tow truck towing it. The last time I remember riding in it was when me and my mom went to the grocery store and got pulled over because one of the headlights died and we didn’t even notice it was dead so it must’ve been while we were driving.

These crushed velour seats are far more comfortable than leather and hold up far better than leather on older cars... not cold in the winter, not hot in the summer, holds you in place, sound insulation and makes the interior whisper quiet.

Great news on your parent's " New " 1989 Town Car. With only 26,000.0 miles on it it should last them a long time barring any more irresponsible drivers ! Any work that needs to be done to it should not pose a problem for you Tony. Just got back Friday with my 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS from New Haven , Ct. and got caught in a 1 hour traffic jam do to an accident that shut down I 84 in Hartford. Had to idle along with A/C on for that time period with no overheat or any problems. I have gotten as much as 26 mpg with the Merc on previous long trips. Fuel injection and overdrive transmission are the key to good gas mileage. I wish your parents all the best with their new purchase, a truly beautiful car.

Congrats on the find. Nice low mileage '89 and hope the price was as nice. And possibly another? His and hers or back up car always works. Two is better than one so they say. I'm just glad these cars still exist in that condition and low mileage period.

The base model is so underrated. To see one optioned out highly and still have cloth interior is a really rare beast. I'm not a huge fan of the exterior black color but the base trim would NOT scare me away at all. When i was growing up in the late 1980's, a neighbor of mine bought a 1989 Lincoln Town Car base model in a beautiful shade of mauve. I knew it was the base model but it was the ONLY Town Car i've seen with the base hubcaps at the time. But everytime it drove by my parents house, it looked beautiful. Not everything has to be Signature or Cartier to be considered good in my opinion.

Very Nice Lincoln! I used to work at the Budd Co. and Budd made all the major class A sheet metal assemblies for the Lincoln, Mark, & Continental - Door, Fenders, Quarter Panels. Deck lids, Hoods and Roof assemblies. They also did the T-birds - 55-50 BIW . The Lincolns were built at Wixom,Michigan and I spent a few days there and Budd had a representative there at all times. Some models the roof to quarter panels were manually leaded in and that was cool to watch and the workers could only do that operation for so many years to not get lead poisoning in the future. I hope and pray your health is good Tony. I am still going thru my maintenance treatments for Follicular Lymphoma and I am feeling pretty good. Your dad and mom look like they are in great shape too! I wouldn't trade the Lincoln for a new car either! Take care and Thanks for your video. Tony

Right, but my parents would still like to have the chrome added to the bottom. People and dealers were adding it to these cars when they were new because everyone wanted it. These cars are what made adding stick-on chrome to the later Town Cars and even trucks so popular in the 90s.

  • @keithbassett4988

That was an awesome find! I'm sure it was well worth the drive. I believe that is one of the sharpest black TCs of that body style that I have ever seen. I know that it is just a matter of personal taste, but IMO I believe that sedan looks fine without the chrome applique along the bottom or the centerline side moldings. That may look nice on other TCs of different colors, but with that matching black coach roof.....it looks perfect the way it is. The only change in appearance I would attempt would be to possibly tint the windows to block out sun's UV rays. The gray cloth interior, headliner, and carpet will fade fast. And because of it's age the cloth headliner will pull loose from the foam backing fairly soon. I love the looks of the car. The black finish with a certain amount of chrome gives it a rather understated look of elegance and authority.....as a LINCOLN should. Also, I hope both your parents are well and have fully recovered from their accident. God bless and keep you all in his tender care.

That is an odd but welcomed package for a base in 89'. Keyless entry and lit key cylinders. I have had a few and if I ever am fortunate to get one more I would like to find one without the digital dash. I believe cloth was actually an option, as well, in 89. Nice find.

  • @owlnswan4016
    @owlnswan4016 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I agree with adding the chrome. I actually like it without the added bodyside molding in the middle of the doors...it's neater looking that way to me.
There are direct replacements for R-12 without converting the system. Freeze12, Envirosafe/Artic Air, are some. Look up drop in replacement for R12...
If that radio is working properly, that's gold alone in this car. You can always transfer the JBL speakers/amp/grille badges from your parents' car that was hit into this car, along with the automatic mirror.
    Enjoy, all of you!

I learned a few things... base price of a base town car is $25,205, base does not have "signature series" on the rear side vinyl just past the opera window, and base town car doesn't have the chrome trim along the bottom of the car. Excellent Town Car!!!! I'd be happy with a base Town Car!!!

I had an uncle who would lease a new silver Town Car every 2 years. He liked everything about the Cartier series except he hated the clock, so he would load up a lower trim with every available option. This would cost him a boatload, not to mention he would make other mods outside the dealer, like gold chrome. He usually didn't put more than 8 or 10,000 mi on the car over 2 years and turned them in well under the mileage allowed on the lease.
He would spend a lot of time sitting in a lawn chair in his garage, just admiring the car and whenever you came over you had to hear his spiel about how wonderful his car was and God help you if you confused the current One with the last one.
One particular year he actually turned one early after only one year because he really wanted the next year's model.
It probably would have just made more sense for him to get a Cartier and replace the clock. He had to be a dream customer for the dealer he leased those cars from for around 20 years.

Hi Tony. What a good-looking car! I was not surprised to hear you say you thought the standard seats were more comfortable than the SS leather seats. I found with myself a long time ago that I just don't like leather seats. The cloth seats that I have now in my latest Marquis Brougham are by far the most comfortable seats I have ever had in a car. And I have owned a 1989 Signature Series before. Great job with the selection. Now just waiting to see the "other" one.

Thanks, Michael! They have always preferred cloth over leather. I could always take it or leave it.

Tan interior is nice too. I like beige. New cars don’t have beige inside anymore either.

Let me first say By the grace of God I'm glad mom & dad walked away from the accident unscathed.
Both of those Town Cars are gorgeous and I wish you the best of luck with them. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that you are not running them on Premium fuel. I've owned 3 over the years. I know that the owners manual says they can run on Regular gas. But they will run better on Premium. The gas mileage speaks volumes. You are so perfection oriented, spend the extra 60 cents a gallon and use Premium. Anyway that's how I feel. Good luck, be safe and enjoy.

    • @tonyscarcare5657

      @@tonyscarcare5657 HI Tony I'm Carmine.
You care for those Town Cars so much I was just surprised. Everything is getting very expensive so I understand saving some money when you can. I just know that those cars don't have knock sensors and I've been told I have a heavy foot. That's why I use Super.

Honestly I have to say that I average 20mpg myself. I now live in NJ and I have a lot of family in NY. So I will take my 89 Town Car on the turnpike to visit. With all the crazys in both states you drive defensively. So I want to make sure that the car can get up and go if needed Lol

Hello Mr. Tony - another great video and the car looks even better in person when we saw it in Dearborn with you, Mom, Dad and Charlie. Having your mom, dad & Charlie in the video is great. You can see how much your dad really likes the car and your mom is so cute with her comments. You have a truly wonderful mom and dad. We know that car needs a little work, however, we cannot wait to see what it looks like once your dad details everything. It is nice to see how both of them are so excited about the car. Also, it looks like the fuel mileage was better on the black Lincoln due to using mid-grade fuel? I might try that on my next road trip. Keep up the great work. Roseann & Dan

24:21 look at how beautiful that interior lighting package is!!! must add under seat lighting as well, I bet the wiring is already under the carpet? What a beautiful elegant Town Car!!! just immediately check that throttle valve lever grommet before they burn up that transmission, makes me so nervous until you check it...

Beautiful car with ultra low miles. The two cars look good together. It is all personal preference, but I like it without the lower chrome piece. If I were you I'd do whatever your Mom wants...Lol. My cousin in Montgomery AL was a realtor and had a new 88 that looked similar to these. She has a lead foot and max speed between stop signs and maximum braking at all times. She gave the car to her Mom in Oklahoma when it had about 110,000 miles on it. So her Mom, (my aunt) was 85 and drove it until she was about 93 when it had too many things wrong with it. She put an ad and it sold in minutes of the first person buying a Lincoln off of a little old lady. Lol. They had no idea what horrible treatment that car had for the first 100k miles. Lol

Lol! That reminds me of the a
Andy Griffith episode when Grandma Walton ripped off Barny with a used car. Mom and dad definitely prefer the chrome. They've never had a base model before, and once you're used to seeing something.

That is a nice find Tony. I didn't think you would find an 89 that nice. You can tell it is a garage queen. I think it is more accurate to average your mileage over several tanks. If you squeeze an extra half gallon in it make all the difference in your numbers. Some pumps cut off sooner than others too. It seems to me that the calculator on the dash is actually pretty accurate.
