    I see from your reporting that Twilight Blue metallic was offered in the Special Edition Lincoln. My 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition is also in that Twilight Blue metallic color with full carriage blue roof. The outstanding feature of this Mercury is the gold anodized exterior trim as well as the trunk mounted luggage rack, also in gold anodized. The contrast between the gold and dark blue is stunning as well as the white pinstriping on the sides as well as the hood. Also the chrome rocker panels and stainless steel vent shades add to the dressed up style of the car. It only had 67,000.0 miles when purchased in January of 2022 and now has 79,000.0 miles. It also sports Mercury mud guards and aluminum turbine wheels. Thanks for the video Tony.

    It’s amazing after 35 years That car still works as good as it did when it was new, it will do everything that you want, and it has something that a lot of new cars do not have, but this car has always had it, and always will, and that is CLASS, just because somebody has a lot of money, or a vehicle cost a lot of money, does not always mean it has class/good taste, this vehicle does, and come to think of it, so does Tony

    I have never seen those long coach lamps before, they are beautiful! I understand about the radio, I'd have to put in a stock one also! You can probably use the floor mats from the wrecked Lincoln plus some other things. We're gonna have a good time working on this one! Thanks for your videos Tony!

      @tonyscarcare5657 Absolutely. It would drive me batty not having things work properly. Also, for me, what I can't stand is squeaks or rattles in a vehicle. I have a 2013 Ford Edge with about 90,500 km and not nary a squeak or rattle. Im the original owner, bought it while it was in transit from Ford to the dealership. They built vehicles better back then than the junk today. I driver trained in a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker, and my parents also had a 1981 Town Car. It was a butter cream exterior(darker than the Adobe) and chocolate brown interior. I remember the carpet being so thick it was like shag carpet. Lol.

    Have you ever owned a continental mark six, with the circle window my father had a 1981 Brown and champagne it's two tone and he also had a 1984 blue signature town car with the valore interior he would only buy signature series, with the digital dash, I just want to say I love the channel. It just brings back so many memories. I've owned four lincolns myself.If it wasn't for my dad, I never would have fallen in love with these cars. They are the definition of a luxury and comfort. Nothing rides like these cars. I found out about you, from the youtube channel, rare classic cars. Thank you very much for what you do.I'm a 1981 baby you bring back a lot of memories to my childhood. I spent a lot of time in lincolns because my mom and dad. They both had an affinity for Lincoln. The last Lincoln they had was a 2004 Lincoln town car silver with a silver top ultimate Before they stop driving, they're still with me. My mom and dad, but they don't drive Anymore So thank you for this awesome content. I'm in the process right now, of getting myself a lincoln, as a daily driver
    And my dream is to get a 80s.Lincoln, as my forever car, town car, continental, mark six . Doesn't matter, but I want it from the eighties, anyway my immediate? family From 1984, til 2015 my family owned nothing but lincolns. But the first one was a very beautiful blue lincoln town car, digital dash, blue interior. The car seemed to just float. Anyway, thank you.Can't wait to the next episode. Sorry about the long message. I got into it because this is just such a happy time. I don't remember any of those cars ever really breaking down except the 88 , 89 continentals, we used to own the v6 models.Those had head gasket issues issues. But yeah, you take care town car is king

    Even with all the minor flaws this Town Car has it’s still absolutely gorgeous. I think a big luxury car looks so classy in white and that blue roof and interior really sets it off. I’m with you on anything stuck onto my cars. The dealer I always use puts a stick on nameplate on the back of all their cars. I always ask them to have it removed. I don’t mind advertising their dealership with a license plate frame but no stickers on the paint for me.

    Did 89's have a CB hand radio option? I ask as I saw on the power antenna it looks to have that black bulbous piece of plastic on the metal mast. I was under the impression for cars of the 80's that had the CB option, the antenna had that cylindrical black piece for the CB to pick up their specific frequencies.

    • @tonyscarcare5657

    I would have bought the car. There was an unfortunately weathered red white 89 near me for sale recently they had just neglected it it had to have sat outside for years untouched. I never thought that red and white was a particular edition, because the Town Car competing with the Brougham… and red Cadillacs with white tops are common place. So this video is, without fail, another educational video! I’m slightly surprised these cars didn’t have full gold ornamentation. Maybe that was 90 up.

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@tonyscarcare5657 that gold is hit and miss anyway, I’ve noticed some cars it oxidizes bad. My mentor was a boomer car guy - true blue professional a perfectionist. He had a friend who in the “gold emblem” era, had a method of flashing common Mylar for dealerships. He had a two tone teal with black midsection early 90s Sierra it had full gold emblems. Guy could do aftermarket Cadillac gaudy to no end. Apparently he spent a lot of time at Walter Reeks Buicks Olds and Searway FLM. Guy could “gold” plate anything. Made a fortune doing it.

    • @tonyscarcare5657

    The electroluminescent coach lamps were from ASC… no bulbs, no LEDs…
    They’re 120-volt… with an inline inverter which drops the power back down to 12V.
    The inverter is an inter-connecting harness which utilizes the existing wiring which operate the coach lamps on normal models, so equipped.
    They originated on the
    - 1982-84 Olds Ninety Eight Regency Brougham sedan
    - 1985 Olds Delta 88 Royale Brougham LS sedan
    - 1984-86 LTD Crown Victoria (Brougham Roof Option only, on 4-dr models)
    - 1987-90 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Brougham LS 4-dr sedan
    - 1983-93 RWD Chrysler New Yorker/ New Yorker Fifth Avenues used the same lamp assemblies, just different trim bezels.
    They’re almost impossible to find today… and if you find them, people ask a king’s ransome.

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I knew that ASC made them along with the top. Of course, they're not mentioned in any of the Ford dealer shop manuals. It seems to me that anything they were putting on the GM and Chrysler vehicles of the time was crap so I'm not surprised they are problematic. They should have definitely stayed with Ford lighting.

    • @LincolnRay

      @@tonyscarcare5657 the illuminated entry lock cylinders were a dropping-voltage LED design.
      The electroluminescent lamps were beautiful. I put them on two of my Town Cars with the Carriage Roof option, back in the 90’s.. they definitely gave the car’s appearance a real presence at night… and looked swanky seeing them through the outside rearview mirrors.. I’ve put 1 on my 91 Colony Park LS… still looking for the passenger’s side… I’ll find one eventually.. I think it’ll make the wagon look swanky at night.. 😎

The car MUST BE as built from the factory, but I understand this is going to be a "driver car" not a future museum car, so I guess it doesn't matter, but if I got behind this car, I'd assume it had fallen into "bad hands" and not an "OEM" purist car any longer. The only rust is on the driveshaft and you can brush that off, but they’re small things because the car was painted and not painted right things were taped off properly or taken off like they should’ve been that’s driving me crazy But the leather seats are in good shape. AC works good automatic patrol works good. I don’t have a power antenna, the power trunk release power truck pull down works. The one thing I gotta work on now is the horn it did not work and I had airbag light on so by a clock spring I put a clock spring and nothing changed. The horn relay was bad so when I put a new relay in the horn blows won’t stop blowing so there’s a short somewhere, but anyhow I’ll work on that with a good time. Your town car looks beautiful. I’m glad you found a good one.

      Thanks, buddy! I'm with you. I really don't care to own any town car after 89. I do know the 4.6 is a great engine, and the cars were extremely high mileage vehicles, but they just don't have the looks. I would consider a 95-97 in the right trim, color, and options. I would not consider a 90-94 or 98-02! 03-11 weren't bad.

    Southern vehicles generally never have any rust. They don't use calcium chloride on the roads despite some years have more freezing rain and snow than the Northeast!
    I definitely wouldn't call this junk, just a well used, well maintained vehicle.
    A shame about the interior, as leather needs lots of moisture to keep it from cracking. It needs to be fed!
    A nice project car to repair, to bring it back to being original.
    Old car brochures online does not have the Special Edition cars brochure, so I couldn't find any information on this particular model. It also doesn't list dual exhaust as a stand alone option either; I'm under the impression that it was only available in the towing package, so I'm probably mistaken.
    Best of luck with this vehicle!

    To be fair, this Town Car has 140K miles on it. I think it looks pretty darn good for the mileage. Was especially impressed with how nice it looked underneath! As always, the devil is in the details! Where did those goofy stick on plaques come from? I guess I would have assumed they came with the car. The exhaust tips look just fine, I would have guessed they were stock as well. Sure want to watch you repair that sun roof and wadded up paper inside, will you have to pull down the headliner? You will attend to the details one at a time, and love doing it. This car will be a great daily driver for sure. It would seem like the wrecked Town Car will have many of the parts needed for this car, give the seats a good leather treatment and they will be fine.
    I have often wondered about those "Marti reports", I hear them mentioned all the time. Where does "Marti" get all this information from? To be fair, the report said your car was "equipped with the following...", it didn't say whether they were "options" or standard equipment for the trim level.

    • @tonyscarcare5657

    My memories of working on those when they were new (warranty stuff at dealership) were these things: #1 Oil leak due to rear of intake manifold gasket leaking fooling the naive to think it was a rear main seal. They were cork originally and loved to get sucked in by the PCV system. #2 AOD direct clutch burnout... Why? Don't know but maybe because we're in a snow belt. #3 Occasional 8.8 rear axle howling. Nonetheless a lot of those were sold. They're valuable now but at the time I could not believe how much they dropped in value after initial sale. Give it 2 years back in '89('91) and they were selling for 1/2 of the MSRP. Cool memories though. Hence me watching this with a passion. Thanks.

      We've never had any of those issues. Maybe they were all fixed under recall. I did loan one of mine to a friend once, and it came back with now overdrive. That's the only issue out of many. My parents' 85 had 348k on it when they sold it. You can buy 10 year old Navigators now for a fraction of the new price.

    • @nhzxboi
      @nhzxboi 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@tonyscarcare5657 The only recalls I remember on those were the fuel line clips ...87SXX where XX means I don't remember what the number was. TBH, the internet is a terrible resource for history. It was a big deal then but not now. Fuel line retention clips...applied to nearly every Ford FI system. You see the tethered clips around the circle-spring connectors on your engine's fuel lines?...they were a recall part addition...not OEM. Silly crap like that gets lost in the muck. I don't remember any other recalls for those Town cars. It paid 0.6Hr to do, I think. Sorry to babble on. Stopping.

    I still think of your mom's phrase, "I don't want a tinfoil car." My vehicle is a 2004 Lincoln Aviator with less than 54K miles. My 2005 was rear-ended in Feb. 2020. I looked nationwide for the same model. Covid was beginning, and I didn't want to relearn a different SUV. I drove to Philadelphia ( I live in Maryland). The truck" 's paint wasn't a Lincoln color. I found a couple in the Miami area. But to my great surprise, a listing in Glen Burnie, Maryland, popped up with the Carfax report verifying one owner, all maintenance, and less than 53,000 miles. I'll call that a gift from God or "pennies From Heaven"! Back to your mom's saying, I'm weary of all the high-tech, plastic parts and turbocharged small engines. And also these crazy CRV transmissions. Email me if you ever have a reason to visit the Mid-Atlantic area.

    I have to wonder about those reports when it says "HO SEFI engine" The engines were the same across the whole line. The only thing that made more power was dual exhaust. I am rather doubtful that it was SEFI...though I may not remember as well as others but I am pretty sure it was bank-fired(4 injectors at a time...no sequencing at all) and was not SEFI. The actual HO 302 may have had but what was different about the LSC and Mustang stuff is that it had forged pistons and a 351W cam(different firing order). I am sure that the engine is not the HO 302 even though that "F" code seems to say so. That is not true, I think.

I am wanting an 1989 bx I like the front "one year only" orange lights. I want a triple burgundy car, digital dash, crushed velour interior, alloy wheels, so no wire wheels for me. I think you and other Lincoln owners are wrong. What you should have learned from your parents accident isn't that you need to stop driving but the total opposite. You just found your parents 2 Lincoln's that had low mileage and who ever owned them did not drive them but saved them for the next guy which was you. So the real message is that you need to drive them and enjoy them not save them for the next guy. I own a 1980 Chrysler Newport and no I don't drive it every day it's not my daily driver but I do drive it and it is way more rarer then your Lincoln because they weren't popular and most people don't like them. What can I say I do. So enjoy them and drive them.
