    In the light novels after their meeting ainz actually reconsidered his decision on exterminating the kingdom. Zanac did the impossible and managed to convince ainz otherwise. But that was all ruined when all these nobles turned their back on their king just to save their own skins. Not spare their families not the kingdom. Is it any wonder ainz was frustrated. And a small side note zanac remains the only human who was given a burial and who’s corpse wasn’t used for experimentation.

      @Aurelius I think Ainz did consider sparing the city’s civilian residents.
      That said I know for a fact that whether he spared the city or decided to kill all those in the city the battle would have still happened and the Kingdoms military would still be wiped out.
      Either way the Kingdom loses but in one scenario some would have been given mercy.

    This scene always brings me back as it's genuinely a good Rage scene.
    In anime you think of Rage scenes as rampages or a satisfying as fuck scream/fight. But here, you feel Ainz fury at what just transpired.
    Zanac chose to meet with him, as a delegation meets a delegation. He tries to get Ainz to reconsider and listens to his reasoning. He understands that even if it's futile to try and stop Ainz, he'll try to do everything in his power to help the kingdom. Ainz is moved by this, he spent much of his time contemplating what type of King he'd be. What his goals with the new Sorcerer Kingdom are. He saw it right there in Zanac and that alone almost made Ainz consider calling off a total extermination and just accepting the conquering. Zanac wasn't a king, he wasn't strong, he wasn't even favorable compared to his siblings by comparison. But he fared against the final boss better than any character in the series as he basically brought Ainz back to his humanity for a moment.
    So to witness the sheer absurdity of Zanac's subordinates. Betraying him, decapitating him and attempting to switch sides to save their sorry asses. Ainz showed more anger with simply telling Aura that order than I'd ever witness in these four seasons.

The author, however, keeps pumping out clueless jerks that don't make sense because otherwise there would be nobody to piss off Ainz. Telling the prince he's going to kill him and everyone in his kingdom because it'd make the NPCs happy? That's like someone stooping low enough to spout off "It's nothing personal" before killing you. That isn't respect at all. It's patting themselves on the back for bs.

    Zanac being made out to be this classic scummy prince who is entirely unfit for the throne the entire anime, only for him to have just a brief moment of showing that he is worthy, only for it to be immediately snuffed out by Ainz on a whim really is a perfect encapsulation of this series.

    • @Lazarultos
      @Lazarultos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Light Novel goes a lot deeper into Zanac's experiences and motivations. He was initially shown as the scummy and snarky prince who is a rival of the "pure" Princess Renner and then immediately turns it around as soon as they reveal Renner's true nature. After that reveal, all we see of Zanac's POV is his struggle to support a collapsing kingdom and exhausting his energy and resources to make the best of a bad situation. Near the end of the war, he begins to believe that he should never have been the King of Re-Estize because he doesn't have his father's charisma and he doesn't have Renner's cunning intelligence. He sadly acknowledges he is a mediocre prince who does not have what it takes to save the Kingdom... But he's still going to try anyway, because even if he's not enough, he is going to give it everything he has because the people deserve no less from their ruler. That was why he went to meet with Ainz despite knowing how hopeless it was, because he felt he owed it to his people to keep trying every option he had until his last breath. When they betrayed him and attacked him, despite knowing his swordfighting skills were poor, he did not run or try to flee, but fought until he finally fell, so that he would die knowing he had truly given the Kingdom everything he had.
      The author really loves making you care about good characters and then punching you in the gut over the bad things that happen to them beyond their control.

    I haven't watched this episode yet but the quick scenes didn't represent how Ainz respected this young man in the light novel. In the novel Ainz actually humanized himself to the young king and they kind of had bond after their meeting.....which is why Ainz I believe ended up having all of them and their families killed after betraying him. It's funny how the humans before Ainz showed up were ok with constant killing and wars between empires but the moment an undead king shows up suddenly killing humans suddenly it's like a taboo. Judging how Ainz was introduced to the world where an innocent village was targeted by killing everyone, I think the human race might actually be better off under his control. There are some under Ainz that still want to protect innocents so I'm sure not all will be treated as sheep parchment lol.

      It wasn't a post-credit scene (technically it was?)
      The episodes last "scene" is the talk between Ains and Zanac. Then the credits start to roll but rather than the outtro being shown, we see Zanac head back to the commanders tent and the subsequent "coup" of the nobles. Credits are rolling but there is no outtro music, just the coup occurring, and immediately afterwards we go to Albedo informing Ains of his new guests and the "credits" stop rolling.
      So, there was no outtro this episode. But technically the credits rolled? (but nobody was paying attention to the credits, kind of like when in Re:Zero Subaru has his mind taken over by Betelgeuse and sacrifices himself, I think the 3rd to last episode of Season 1? Credits are rolling, but the scene takes precedence)

    In my opinion I think Zanac reminded Ainz of himself when he became leader of the guild when Touch Me step down, whether he was going to kill them painlessly or was rethinking the whole War thing in the end it does not matter because either way those Nobles screwed the entire Kingdom.

    We pledge ourselves to you, Lord Ainz... at least until someone else who's even stronger appears, then we leap over to him and try to kill you.

    I would do the same to the bastard that did that to a person I respect. Ainz was probably going to make their deaths painless but no any more for doing that.

      Tbh can you blame them? Coming from their perspective, the way zannac brought the news about ainz not willing to accept their surrender, it was pretty understandable why they did what they did.
      The reputation of the royal family was already pretty shitty considering how cowardly rampossa was so they never really trusted any of them.
      They probably thought zannac didnt even try to surrender to ainz and just pissed ainz off.
      Not trying to justify them backstabbing zannac by any means. Just adding a bit insight to the situation

      Just saying but if they actually accepted zanac's proposal of killing phillip and offering his head, all of this wouldn't have happened. These were the same nobles that trashed on zanac saying " have you no pride" when he wanted to turn reestize into a vassal state. Then they do most prideless thing ever and kill their king just to survive. They deserved what's coming to them since in the end it was their own fault anyway with zanac being the scapegoat

    • @guy-rk1jj
      @guy-rk1jj ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus, zanac probably understood that whatever reason , the nobles wouldn't have listened. What was left from the reestize kingdom where the worst of the nobles since most of the good ones were traumatized or died during the katze plains massacre which included marquis raeven. Zanac got dealt a bad hand but those nobles 100 percent deserved what's coming to them

    Also if im not mistaken, Ainz also asked if they had family (To which they said yes i believe), and told Albedo or someone else to go pick them up and also send them to Neuronist.
    I think, i could be misremembering so i would be quite happy to be corrected about this XD

      I mean, Ainz was going to destroy the kingdom anyways, bringing Zanac back would've been beyond cruel if it was for the purpose of destroying his kingdom & murdering the rest of his family in front of him, not to mention potentially finding out his sister betrayed him and everyone. I also think revivals can only be done for seasoned warriors / high-level NPCs, since they've mentioned before that it really drains your levels & makes you super-weak.

    Fun fact, in the LN, Ainz WAS convinced by Zanac. After their meeting, Ainz was considering sparing the kingdom after all, only for the shitty nobles to ruin it by turning their back on a king that truly cared for them.
