Can you help me please I downloaded your dog food list. I see you recommended natures logic I’m concerned if the protien is to high and also trying to find out about omegas I don’t see anything listed can you help me please I’m trying to get her a decent bag for under $100 thank you
Very helpful, I will say I’m still very confused, I can re watch this again to try understand it I guess. BUT for a single dog & cat mom working part time with a disability there is NO way I could afford that yearly fee! It’s just too expensive at the moment in this economy with all food and meats being SO expensive.
I have made so many mistakes over the years trying to feed homemade food to my dogs. But I've had a terrible time finding recipes that I can actually make with locally available ingredients. I really had to consider whether The Animal Diet Formulator was going to be cost-effective for me or not, but I decided to go ahead and try it out, and I'm really glad I did. It's taken so much stress off me to know that what I'm making for my dogs isn't a hit-or-miss for the nutrients that they need. But as it turns out, It has saved me more than it cost for my three small dogs. I can keep an eye out for things on sale to use for recipes, and alter the recipes to use what I'm able to get on sale, and still have a balanced recipe. My three small dogs don't eat a lot, so I would imagine that someone with a big dog would probably be able to save even more than I do. Plus, I'm able to adjust the recipes to meet what I'm learning as time goes by. I've learned to avoid foods high in oxalates, but I can switch out the high oxalate foods for foods lower in oxalates and rebalance the recipes. I learned that supplements that include fillers or ingredients to facilitate manufacturing often block absorption, so I can choose brands that don't include any other ingredients except for the actual nutrients, or find whole food ingredients for most of the things. And instead of just getting one recipe from a veterinary nutritionist, I have the ability to adapt my recipes and have multiple recipes, for way less than that one recipe from the veterinary nutritionist cost.
One question I have regarding the non animal ingredients. Many of these foods contain anti nutrients that prevent nutrient absorption. For example, spinach has lots of calcium. However, it also contains a large amount of oxalates that prevent absorption of calcium. Cruciferous vegetables can interfere with iodine absorption. Does the animal diet formulator take this into account? I believe cooking helps, however the anti nutrients are still there.
Usually spinach isnt added to the diet for its calcium it is added for other vitamins it would take large amounts of these “anti nutrients” to unbalance such large quantities of the ingredients think of it as a cup of water wont fully dissolve 5 lbs of salt
@btpuppy2 I don't feed mine any vegetables period which seems to be okay because I have been feeding them this way for 14 years and they are now 15 and 16 in great health.
@Pi2.718 Not sure what you are asking. IMO dogs don't need to be eating plants but many people think some "healthy" vegetables are good for them. Veggies contain antinutrients that prevent nutrient absorption.
Thank you for this! Not sure I can do this full time with 16 dogs (rescues) but a 22lb bag of Stella & Chewy only lasts for 2.5 days 🤦🏼♀️. I really appreciate this, even if its just adding in until I figure out how to prepare for so many dogs!❤
First of all you are so awesome for saving those dogs lives!! Another way to make the bowl healthier is to add some healthy toppers to the bowl! She recently made a video on that that I recommend you watch! Best of luck!
After Purina stop making Bella my Yorkie poo wouldn't eat any kind of kibbles so I myself went online for fur babies recipes now I'm glad I wasn't like many adding toppers to get them to eat it ❤
When I ran a rescue for exotics (lions tigers monkeys etc) my local butcher and grocery store donated all their meat and veg scraps to me daily. The quality of food thrown out every day is astounding. Fed all my animals (100+) that way for over 20yrs. Make friends with butchers 😉 Hope that works out for you.
Some people are perfectionists and will not attempt to make dog food without knowing the reason for every ingredient. Others say, if you feed a variety of animal parts and a little vegetables, like an actual farmer’s dog would get, that is adequate because dogs can get the nutrients over time. I’m somewhere in between
I have 7 dog's and it should NEVER COST SO MUCH $$$$ You claim you want to help and then charge an overly inflated price to do so. It's not that expensive to make up a recipe formulation. I'll just educate myself and my crew will be fine.
Didn’t use this app just started feeding raw or lightly cooked added to high quality (open farm) kibble. I’m seeing great results in my 3 doxies allergy symptoms!
I wanted to know what you thought of Zignature dogfood I have 4 great Pyrenees who I had allergy tested between them they are allergic to all meat except pork this includes fish dairy eggs besides Enviromental allergies around 90 total allergies between them and this is the only food I could find that they could eat do you have any suggestions
Absolutely love this. I have been cooking for my dog for over a year now due to sensitive stomach and low fat requirement, but I'm always worried that it is not balanced enough. He's been thriving ever since though.
Looks like a great app, but being retired spending 25 dollars a month and being obligated for a year is not something I can do. If you had some other alternatives that would be great.
I hope I'm not the only one who is more confused than ever.Dr Jones has a sensitive stomach recipe that's basically ground turkey, rice, carrots and oil. I thought that was enough with his supplement.I don't think I can do this, but my boy's tummy issues are getting so much worse.
@@GillRigged Dr Jones at a simple recipe for sensitive tummies. Ground turkey rice carrots oil. I thought adding his supplement would make it completely balanced or would it not?
I’m very confused to how a vet like Dr Jones would recommend rice for a sensitive tummy? Firstly white rice in particular has zero nutritional value and is very high in starch? I would look into an alternative for that, maybe even pumpkin would be better and would provide more nutrients like fibre. Just an idea, but I definitely would not feed rice to my dog. Brown rice might be a better alternative but still I have never considered it to be that useful.
Code: FUSARO saves you 20%! Limited time code, and no, not sponsored. I make nothing on that code but saves you a bunch. Doing DIY food can save a TON of money compared to store bought foods. Do you have a video on kitchen safety when switching to a raw/gently cooked diet? Other than your basic meat safety? I saw some resources recommend storing dog food completely separate. Is this a contamination issue? Also, can you use the same utensils/pans you would normally use to cook with? Same sponge? Assuming everything is being washed thoroughly.
You mentioned but didn’t show how to input your own ingredients and nutrients. And you also said you could input your dry dog food if the company will give you numbers. I have found they don’t even themselves have a full breakdown, and if they do, it’s given in percent, not mg. The best I have gotten from them is ca/P ratio and amounts, zinc and copper and omega 3 and 6 fats. Also, I have always used NRC numbers, based on the weight of my dogs. I use a spreadsheet designed to do this. But it’s all very tricky!!
I started raw feeding abruptly from kibble with toppers. I'm feeding raw whole chicken. With giblets and bones and other toppers, eggs, pumpkin, beef liver, sardines and such. This is day 10. Poop is super hard and dry and small. What can I add to make more soft poop?
Not an expert here but maybe pull back a little on the pumpkin ? I noticed feeding my pup pumpkin regularly made her poop super hard and once I took it away her poops went back to normal
How does that work if my dog is injured and on “crate rest”? My dog used to be very active but now although he wants to be active, we are having to force him to be less active while we wait for an orthopedic surgeon to correct his CCL.
The formula calculator seems like a great tool, But expensive... Is there another alternative? I would just want to design maybe two or three recipes for my two mini chihuahua mix breeds and stick with them. like a beef and chicken, cooked. maybe a turkey. but to have a subscription doesn't seem to make much sense. Yikes! $300 for a dog food info app. True, there’s a lot of info provided so Dr. Recker is rightfully asking for compensation, but for most watching this video, their dogs are their kids. My dogs are my kids, I.e., most of my income goes to them. $300 app knocks us out of the ballpark.
