Hi, I wanted to say thank you for this recipe Teddy my mixed breed Chihuahua was 20 lbs and could not jump on our sofa and he laid down to eat. After three months of nothing but this dog food he is now down to 18 lbs! We are going to feed him this forever just increase his serving once he reaches 15 lbs which is what the vet said his weight should be. This has made a huge difference in our dog's life!
Just found U!! & I am SSSOOO happy I did! This is so helpful! Thank U BIG MUCH 4 doing this! I have 1 & 1\2 y\o American Pit Bull Terrier who's having digestive issues. THANK U THANK U THANK U!
*Update: I had to let my sweet girl go back in August 2022. When they diagnosed her they gave her 2-4 months; she got 20! And I truly believe it was greatly due to changing her diet. I enjoyed watching this. I started my homemade dog food journey 8 months ago after my 12 yr old, 60 lb mix was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Her vet said on average they will get 2 to 4 months after diagnosis if you choose not to go through chemo (with chemo they can get up to 15 months). I chose not to because of the side effects. She was in pretty bad shape at the time of diagnosis. She was loosing a lot of fur & weight, her remaining fur had turned dull and very course, where before it had been soft and shiny. Her eyes were very foggy and her red snout had turned all white. She started drinking a lot of water (it was as if she couldn't get enough). And then she started peeing the bed. She's on incurin (one tiny pill) a day which has her incontinence under control. The vet told me to just let her do what she loves, so I started giving her an egg in the morning, (because she loves eggs). Then at about a week I noticed some changes in her. Her eyes were clearing and her white snout started turning red again. And so began my research for homemade dog food. After discovering how bad store bought dry dog food is I stopped feeding it to her. For the last 8 months she's had only human grade food and the results have been undeniably positive! She gained some weight, grew back her fur, (which is soft again) and has more energy. Last month at her yearly checkup her vet said she was doing as well as a dog on chemo. But in my opinion better, because she doesn't have the side effects from chemo. I truly believe had I kept giving her the bagged dry food, she would not be with me today.
Wonderful job on video. Have never used this crock pot I bought a year ago but will use now. I have been making homemade food for my dog for about a year, I freeze it by the week, so I am only cooking one a month.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful story. I don't blame you saying "NO to the Chemo". I went through that with my first service dog Brandy. After that horrible event (for me and Brandy) and $7,500 later, I swore I would NEVER put another dog through that. I have a little Beagle now and she is the love of my life. I started her on a homemade diet about 3 months ago and she loves it. I am so glad I stumbled on LoveLexiNicole's channel. I absolutely love her doggie recipes and, I love her doggies!😁🐶Take care Rebecca Zollman and Stay Safe.
I save my eggshells. I wash them and then cook them in the oven @ 400 degrees for 15 minutes on a cookie sheet. After they cool, I crumble them in a plastic bag. I then take them out and grind them in a coffee grinder that I bought just for this. This is how I give my dog calcium the natural way :) I also make homemade dog food. When it cools then I add the ground eggshells.
Hello. I'm a retired Veterinary Technician of 25 yrs. I have always made fresh food for my pets (both dogs and cats), and they are healthier because of it. It's fantastic to see you and others thinking outside of the box. Kudos!! ~^..^~
@@Maincoonlover254 several years ago I cooked for my dog who had health issues. I did figure out the cost versus store bought. It actually came out to be only slightly less to make, but so much healthier. I bought the marked down (for quick sale) meat almost daily, and froze it. Saved a lot of money. Frozen vegetables from the “big box” store. I’d make a double batch every other weekend, portion serving size into ziplock bags, and freeze. Take two out at night to thaw. It’s simple, satisfying, and my dog loved it and I enjoyed the entire process. My recipe was very similar to this, less the pumpkin. I had laying hens back then and would crack one fresh raw egg on top a couple times a week.
I want to thank you so much for this video. My sugar bear has liver failure and I put her on this food and she is doing SO much better!!! She has more energy, she is playful again she loves this!!! Thank you so much for all you do!!!
I started making my own dog food about 8 months ago. I have 3 dogs, one is 15 with dementia, one is 8 and the other 2. All mutts from the pound or found abandoned. The one with dementia is blind as well. The overall improvement is highly visual, all their coats are shiny and their teeth (I brush them) but the tartar build up decreased dramatically. I use a vast combo: ground chicken, turkey, beef, chicken or beef liver, most importantly is organ meat. Chicken gizzards, hearts and liver , brown rice, carrots, apples, sweet potatoes . The young one shed profusely on store bought food. Now it is minimal. The oldest was close to death last year. Had a few health scares. He can't see where he is going but runs nonetheless. LOL So glad you have so many followers because if a person has the time, it is crazy how the dogs will benefit.
Wow. you sound like me. I had 4, but as of last week only 3. I too had a dog with dementia and I would describe her just the same. But it did eventually get to be too much. Her body was healthy although her anal glands seem to have a hard time healing. But her puppies treated her badly and wanted her out of the pack. The vet said it was normal. They started treating her badly over a year ago. She was always a nervous wreck due to them...which meant her quality of life was not good. It's all well now. The household feels normal with just dogs instead of feeling like they were taking over EVER MOMENT of my life while I tried juggling them all.
@@janis.T you gotta be a dog lover to do what you do. I recently brought a maremma pup 8wks old but she suffers from being separated from her mother, is anxious, hides away all the time. I purchased her to watch n guard my poultry but I don’t think that is going to happen any time soon, but reading your comments I think I’ll put the time into her and see what happens
❤You're my favorite kind of people. I am a huge advocate in saving animals from the pound/human society. So THANK YOU. Never buy from a pet store and I'm not too fond of people who breed their dogs . I think its cruel especially when there are so many innocent abused animals who need a family and lots of love
Just a quick note. The liver should be mildly cooked (it denatures "cooks" really fast) so doing that in a pan separately takes seconds and you keep more of the heat sensitive nutrients.
@@LoveLexyNicole hi there, I just found your channel today and I’m so glad I did. My two small breed dogs have been having yeast issues for the last 5 months, smelly paws , brown smelly gunk from their ears so I’ve been considering cooking their food cuz their dry store brand food isn’t helping...and sadly our vet just prescribes ear drops, so can I use these ingredients for dogs suffering from yeast issues ? Thank you!
This is a good tip about not overlooking your organ meats. As I understand it, mixed organ meats are a a real necessity for dogs. A friend of mine has a lovely Dobe from excellent bloodlines, who always had what she felt was a substandard coat. She feeds a very high quality kibble to her 3 large dogs. After doing some reading, she began adding raw beef liver to their kibble and it had a huge impact on the quality of his coat and more energy (he is 11 yrs old). So I did alot of investigation and reading of my own and have decided that I am going to start cooking for my smallish dog and make my own dog kibble topper for my dog. I am going to do dog soup (essentially bone broth w vegetables) and freeze it. I can make it much more nutritious and an added bonus is that it will be cheaper than buying it in the store. She will still get a limited amount of kibble just to make sure that she is well rounded nutritionally. Her organ meats will be mostly beef liver and chicken hearts and gizzards because that is what is most readily available. I am also going to a couple of local butcher shops to investigate what my options might be to see if I can expand on the variety of pieces and parts.
I have been making my senior dogs food for the past 2 years. I thought it was time for a change. And that's how I found your recipe. I followed the recipe and I am quite pleased with the outcome. (so is my Charlie). I will continue to use your recipe for a while the only change I made was the following. I added hemp hearts and the reason I did that was they contain 10 G of plant protein 12 G of Omega-3s and six and all nine essential amino acids I also added ground flax. One tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 37 calories, 2 grams of polyunsaturated fat (includes the omega-3 fatty acids), 0.5 gram of monounsaturated fat and 2 grams of dietary fiber. I also add chia seeds they're great for 11 G of fiber plus they become gelatinous when they are wet, so they help to hold the food together. I also like to add at least one red or purple fruit. I generally add blueberries for an antioxidant. The seeds, I add 3teaspoons of each. The blueberries, I add 1 bag frozen at the end while the food is cooling, otherwise they turn everything purple. So there you have it. Thanx for caring, and thanx for the new recipe.
I'm going on 3years with Charlie's diet. Charlie is a Chitzu poodle cross and is about 13 years, he is a rescue, I have had him for 8 years. He was maybe 5 or six when I got him. Before the homemade food he had huge issues with urgent poohs, vomiting, and skin issues. He is well now, he can't see , and he has earing issues but overall he is good. I hope to have im for a long time to come. I love him very much.
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, even human can't digest plant based omega 3 efficiently. Human can only get 20%-30% omega 3 from plants unlike animal omega 3 which is way more bio-absorbable to human. This is just how our digestive system be able to breakdown those nutrients from plants. Therefore, I'm not sure how efficient would have been for dogs.
Been using this recipe for 2 years now and my dogs been doing amazing with it! Also turned my moms senior golden retriever onto this recipe who has always struggled with weight and she lost 10 lbs!!
@@Mr4givin I would think so. Maybe leave some in fridge to use the next day and following day. How long does food last in the fridge? If you are using it everyday and how much food is it? How many servings will it make for your dog? 🐕
You are a GREAT MOMMY!!!! I will follow you for my 2 brothers!!! 8 yrs Chi wieners!!!!!! 1 has skin allergies!! He is always scratching !!!!! Nothing helps!! So going to feed him better food!!! Thank you so much, for your “ “”VALUABLE Knowledge an Information!!!!!!🐾🐾🥰🤗🥳
I love your whole vibe: your positive, upbeat attitude, your outfit, the obvious love for your dogs, all of the great information, and that kitchen! It's a whole vibe. And I love it all.
I love love love the fact that she had it approved by a vet!!! I am greatful for this recipe and awesome information on how and why it's made this way❤ thank you
Wow I just started watching your video because I wanted to start making our dog food. Over 1.5 million views. That’s incredible! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You're so Beautiful... Inside and Out. THANK YOU for going to the trouble to Care about your precious ones so much...that you figured out how to heal them holisticly and holisticly keep them in perfect harmony inside their bodies. You're the BEST!
I need to make this for my dog. He is so finicky, but I think he would love this. I used one of your recipes for my last dog. She was sick and did not want to eat dog food. She was in congestive heart failure. She loved her homemade food.
Lexy, Hi so I started feeding my 2 saint bernards and my baby english bulldog, your recipes. I gotta tell you, they are in HEAVEN with these recipes. You should see them dance around, and get so excited for this food. As soon as they see the bowl come out of the fridge, they all come running. TY so much for your videos. Please keep making them.
@@sharonduke95 you can use ziploc/mylar or food grade plastic that will hold up in the freezer ....not all plastics hold up ...ziploc and mylar are both reusable...or you can get a vaccum sealer
@@sharonduke95 i use 3 liter freezer containers . i make it in winter and store till next winter. Last 6 months frozen. 103 pounds of dog required me to make 6 cups a day . so you need a very big ice chest.
I have the number one pickiest 2 year old Golden Doodle who has refused to eat every food in the Pet-store. I was getting ready to order one of the expensive fresh brands when I ran across this video. After watching this video I went to the store and bought all of the ingredients, came home and chopped everything up and made this. He’s not a big rice eater so I used a little organic brown pasta. I used this cooked food as a topper over my dogs regular food (using more of this cooked food) and he went thru it in two minutes and came back asking for more, it was a huge hit and I was thrilled! Thank u so much!
I want you to know that the Pressly Girls sent me over to your channel!!! My dog is small and is having all kinds of problems with dogfood!!! She is allergic to everything!!! So I'm going to try your recipe!!! Thank You so very much for sharing it!!! God Bless Us All!!!
Been making my German shepherd’s food from scratch for the last 2 years and she acts like a puppy again. Perfect weight, full of energy, consistent bowel movements, and her teeth are immaculate. She’s eight years young and I hope she’ll be with us for another decade ❤️
@@karenannlara8461 hi babe! For one month of food, I get six chickens from Costco, a big bag of sweet potatoes, big bag of green beans, and about a pound of dried chickpeas from the bulk section at the regular grocery store. Since I’m lazy and don’t like preparing food too frequently, I’ll slow roast all 6 chickens in the oven for 12 hours so the meat just falls off the bone, cartilage, too. Chop the whole bag of sweet potatoes and boil them, and cook the chickpeas with a lot of water in the oven while the chickens roast because I don’t have a pot big enough. Chick peas expand like crazy. After the chickpeas are done and are still really hot, I’ll add the chopped green beans raw and they get a bit softer from the heat of the peas. Then I mix the peas, beans and sweet potatoes together and dismantle the chickens. Then I portion into Ziploc baggies to freeze. 6 ounces of chicken and 4 ounces of the sweet potato bean pea mix. She gets 10 ounces in the morning and 10 ounces at night and for lunch I gave her a half a cup of dry food just to get a little bit more fiber in her diet for solid poops. This recipe makes enough for two bags a day for anywhere between 24 and 30 days. I’m searching for a butcher that sells organ meat, because that’s what they should be eating often. It’s just hard to find kidneys, lungs, heart and liver at a reasonable price in large quantities. Give that pups a kiss for me 🥰 ❤️
I also make my dogs their food. I make a few changes each week so it does not get boring for them. I use range chicken, pressure cooked and remove meat from bone. I boil quinoa in chicken broth, then I use another separate grain (brown rice, white rice, oatmeal, millet, sorghum) each week and boil it in chicken broth as well. I add mixed veggies (no corn) . Each day they have a multi vitamin, a scoop of ground flaxseed, a scoop of protein powder. The two senior dogs get a half a Dasuquin for their joints. They are healthy and strong. I don’t trust any pet food manufactured, I know what’s in my dogs food. Dog food companies don’t love my dogs I do, so I give them the absolute best food and care I can give them.
Please don't forget to use *lightly* cooked organ meats like beef liver and chicken hearts, ground muscle tissue isn't enough. Adding a poached egg also does wonders! Poached ensures they get the maximum nutrients out of the egg.
I love this! Especially the links to the supplements. The dog food industry always does the scare tactic that our dogs won't survive without processed kibble. It's nice to see we can feed them whole foods and it is reassuring that you have the vet-approved supplements.
My dog loves life, I had no clue that she was just getting by but after changing her to homemade she is a completely different dog! She is hands down happier, she seems to mind better and want to show me how smart she is so she can get her awesome food! You are amazing! Thank you!
Your such a good Mama. It’s good to see others loving their “furry kids “ as much as I do! I have been feeding my baby chicken ,brown rice , carrots, peas, broccoli, green beans and dried, blended egg shells for calcium. Never even occurred to me to use my insta pot! Duh!!! Thank you for the awesome video! I love you!
Started this recipe with my 10 month old Cavapoo. He was originally on the Farmer’s dog but that started to become too expensive and his poop was always mushy! With this, his poop is much more firm and he absolutely devours it! I used the exact ingredients and measurement but without a crockpot. I made the veggies, meat and rice separately and then combined it once cooked. All in all it took about 2hrs with prep and cooking. Love it! Thank you for sharing!
New subscriber. Came across your channel simply bcs of another TH-cam person (Pressley Girls) & her girl Olive. Our girl is nearly 15 yrs old now & been having medical issues (enlarged liver). Vet sent us home w/3 diff kinds of meds. Gave her most of them & then decided to stop & started feeding her rice & ground turkey made in 2 diff pots on my own & she has been eating it w/o a problem. Love your idea & the fact that you use only one pot (Instant Pot) which we have & definitely going to try it as soon as I get some of the ingredients. Thanks much & God bless!
I love this recipe! Been using it for a year now and share it with everyone I know who has dogs. I was just at PetSmart giving out this video information. 😊 Thanks for helping so many pet parents
Thanks! I do something very similar to this. Only difference is that I use white rice (I was told white rice was better for dogs) and I cook whole eggs with the food. Then I grind the eggs shells and all in the Magic Bullet with some water, and add it back.
I just started watching your dogfood videos. I made this recipe tonight and my dogs tore it up. I have 4 dogs, three of them around 70 lbs. They loved the lick pads too!!! Thank you so much.
Happy Wednesday friends 💗 Hope you guys enjoy yet another homemade dog food recipe 🤗 make sure to check out part 1 and 2 as well! Hope everybody has a great week!
Hi! Please read my comment on vet recommendations to not cook all ingredients together snd why. Also that some supplemental powders cannot be microwaved. Ty.
GREEN PEAS ARE LINKED TO HEART DISEASE - DO NOT FEED IT TO YOUR DOGS Also if you want to make a homemade recipe, just use balance it, the proportion of each ingredient is just as important as the choices of the ingredients themselves
My standard recipe is 1 lb meat (whatever is on sale), 2 cups rice, 6 cups water and 2 cups mixed veges, rosemary. I cook it all on the stove for my 2 dogs. I will check this one out too. They love it. I switched to this since 1 of my dogs wouldn't eat anything else.
Please don't forget to use lightly cooked organ meats like beef liver and chicken hearts, ground muscle tissue isn't enough. Adding a poached egg also does wonders! Poached ensures they get the maximum nutrients out of the egg.
My dog has always been on homemade food since he was a puppy . I wanted to switch his ingredients up to make sure he has all the proteins he needs . I came across your videos and use your recipe. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT ! Thank you so much.
I love that you add turmeric. Don't forget to add the black pepper to activate the turmeric. It's a 1:4 ratio. If you add 1 tsp turmeric, add 1/4 tsp black pepper. I also found out from vets that all homemade dog food should consist of: 1/2 protein, 1/4 veggies, and 1/4 carbs. Thanks for your videos! You inspired me to start feeding my dogs this way :)
I started feeding my dog a homemade diet last July, when we thought he was having allergy issues. It turned out he was hypothyroid, but I continued the homemade diet because he would get so excited for meal times. He “dances” for me twice a day before I feed him. Thank you for the ideas, I do need to mix up his diet. I currently make one recipe for him, and I would like to vary his diet. I feed him a supplement and give him cottage cheese and different fruits. Thank you for this video!
I give mine the homemade food as well ( I have 2 dachshunds). I give them about 1 tsp of plain Greek yogurt. I just put the teaspoonful right on top of their food and they love it...
Every Dog Deserves to eat Real Food, Exercise Regularly, and have a Loving Owner! I cook for my dog in a crockpot on a low setting as it preserves nutrients and keeps all amino acids in meat without destroying them. I switched from brown rice to millet and buckwheat and I give my dog raw veggies to retain nutrients.
Please don't give your dog raw veggies as their bodies are not designed to digest the cellulose. Steamed and cooked veggies are the appropriate way. Please visit the website NO MORE VET BILLS (it's not mine - wish it was) but I, as a canine nutritionist, have not looked back. It is the true way to feed your furbaby - one kind of food a day. RAW MEATS/BONES/ORGANS/EGGS one day, RAW FRUITS (RIPE) another day, and COOKED VEGGIES (pseudo-grain and veggies) a third with a fast after a meat day. (Y)
@@melinamary5246 I do steam veggies, I don't steam salad type baby kale, bell peppers, or cucumbers but I don't give my dog that every day either. I do make sure the multivitamin is adequate. It is usually the calcium-phosphorus ratio that needs to be balanced as Dogs need 5- 8 times more calcium than we do. I Give my Dog fruit as a snack, not with his meal (apples, pears, berries, watermelon, pineapple) Same with raw goat milk, whole milk kefir, or Greek yogurt (1-2 Tbsp.) I mix it with water as he doesn't drink water His diet consists of Pastured Eggs Cooked with ground eggshells, Norwegian salmon oil, beef liver, turkey. Cooked garbanzo beans, pumpkin, carrots, sweet potatoes with skin, zucchini, broccoli, green beans, cabbage, beetroot (ground pumpkin seeds or ground flax seeds, peanut butter (that has 1 ingredient), dried cranberries, oatmeal (not instant), brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, millet. Raw, frozen bones/ beef ribs once a week. My dog is obsessed with food so I don't think he needs to be fasting. As long as you feed a variety of nutrients over time a dog won’t have any problems. Thank you for sharing the website.
@@marsinaries8892 The foods you give are ok. However, feeding one kind of food a day is the knack. With just one stomach, we don't want eventually creative digestive stress and problems that take various outlets. So feed your cooked planets on one day to the tune of 6% body weight. Feed your fruit (RAW AND RIPE) on one day to the tune of 6%, and then your RAW meats/organs/bones/eggs on another day without the skin and fat to the tune of 3% body weight. Leave out the garbanzo beans, brown rice, or any grain for that matter. Pseudo grains are fine. Fasting means Healing the system. While we give too many foods we fail to realize if our dog's system is ready to digest, absorb and utilize these foods. So keeping it simple, like their ancestors, who lived on raw meat (primary foods) and fruits (secondary foods) will help promote longevity and good health. It is when they begin to age that the disasters of what we had been feeding them show up. Having young bodies they are able to work out problems to a certain extent while piling up the crap for a future date. As a canine nutritionist, I am adept at giving supplements apart from the right foods to be fed, but on deeper research and seeing the effects on my own dog, as well as countless others (check Rotational Monofeeding on FB), we have been missing the simple facts hiding in plain sight and have fed our dogs so much, they have not been given a chance to fast and direct their energies to heal any disorders within, as they have and are spending most of their time digesting all foods in unnatural form (cooked). Anyway, all the best to you and hope you check out Rotational Monofeeding and NOMOREVETBILLS (one and the same) for euphoric revelations and restoration of good health to our fur babies. (Y)
I have made homemade dog food for twenty years but trying to write it out for a friend was proving a challenge. I found your video to share with her because you do such a great job of explaining the process and the benefits. Thanks.
I made this last night for my dog and he loved it. I would recommend this definitely to anyone who might even have a finicky pup like mine. Thank you for sharing.
Ok- I made it... I have a 8qt Instant pot so I reduced the ground turkey to 5lbs. It looks great and will start feeding them tomorrow. I have 2 dogs. Finn, my old man in spirit, has digestive issues and I've been feeding him basically homemade chicken and sweet potato. I am praying that adding all the other ingredients will help him. The puppy will eat it all up! Thank 😀
I am highly allergic to coconut. I use extra virgin olive oil with my dog. She loves it. Great job on this video! Highly organized and easy to understand. For some reason, I find it difficult to find ground chicken. I adopted an old dog and she does not do well on kibble, so I have switched her to soft food, and I'd like to start cooking for her. Thanks for this. I've been feeding her scrambled eggs with olive oil in them and she loves it.
Great video. I’m sharing it with friends just beginning the journey of switching to a home made diet. I started 5 years ago, wish I had this video then. Today my 12 yr old AussieDoodle has the energy of a 5 yr old. She has a beautiful coat and has maintained her weight and body mass. I’ve already started our new puppy on it too. It’s easy once you get started and rewarding to see how healthy they are. My older dog comes running every time I pull out the instant pot.
We've been having trouble with our dogs food for months now. Tried different dry, wet, pressed and cooked delivered food, and nothing was great. This fits the bill, it's clearly good quality (I did my research, this is balanced and healthy what you did here), and easy to follow. Thanks for this, will definitely try.
I made this for my golden retriever and he loves it! He would eat pretty much anything so I didn’t think he could get more excited about food than he already does, but he loves his meals more than ever before! Thank you for your videos I love seeing my dog so happy and I love that I know I am feeding him well ❤️
I’d like to know the weight and amount fed each day as well. This recipe shows a 50 # dog but doesn’t give you how much to feed each day. I have 3 goldens 70-80-#
@@melissamorrison5314 Hi there, I have 3 goldens too. Have you been making this? I just took in a 3 year old who was with a foster and to be bred….the foster got very sick could not walk, talk or get out of bed…the dog was in that situation for a month known …the police finally went in when friends could not get in touch…anyway, no end of hot spots and ear infections….I’m looking into making or feeding raw, which is something I have never been too keen to do……if you are making this, how much are you feeding? Mine are 75+-70-65. Good to see someone else with 3 of these crazy, lovable animals. Elaine, Toronto, Canada
I am stunned at how enthusiastic my Westies are about this recipe. They are already what I would calla little “spoiled,” & I have made them homemade recipes from other sites plus I regularly feed them so-called premium canned dog food. Their reaction to your recipes = priceless. They can’t get enough. I started only homemade food recently bc one of them has recently developed some health difficulties. I’m hoping your nutritious meals will do the trick. Thank you!
You're a good mom I can see they love you and you love them that little guy looks at you with love he even came to show you he finished the food you cooked for him and his sister.
My chihuahua loves this recipe! She is 10 years old and has been mostly on wet canned food, she was never crazy about it and wouldn't finish it most times. But now that I know better I want her to be as healthy as possible. So I started giving her this recipe . She Eats every little bit and is so happy every time. Thank you for posting this video :)
I've made homemade dog food a few times when my standard poodle was sick because he wouldn't eat kibble or prescription canned food. Difference in what I made were about 1/4 the amount of peas and sweet potatoes, double the pumpkin, then about a cup of frozen blueberries, 2 chopped apples, and 2 eggs including the shells ground fine in the blender. I also use 1/2 brown rice and 1/2 steal cut oats or oatmeal. Instead of water, I used sodium free beef or chicken broth. I also added some broccoli.
Today I made hamburger and liver mix. I did the meat first in my instant pot (8qt). Then I did all the veggies. Won’t all fit. That worked out great. I also took 7 eggs shells and all and put them in a blender. Then cooked it with the veggies. I just ordered my first order of Farmer Dog nutrition packs. You have given us great tips.
I just made this tonight. I’ve been at my wits end with GI issues with my 6 month old golden puppy. Back and forth to the vet to no avail. I’ve tried several different foods. Fresh off another week of chicken and rice to get him back to normal poos and I’m going right into this. Praying this works…
I'm sorry your pup is going through that, that's so awful especially since the pup is rapidly growing. My vet actually recommended rice and meat when my old family dog was having issues, to settle his stomach. Just goes to show how much stress we put on their bodies when feeding kibble. Please don't forget to use *lightly* cooked organ meats like beef liver and chicken hearts, ground muscle tissue isn't enough. Adding a poached egg also does wonders! Poached ensures they get the maximum nutrients out of the egg. Best of luck to you and your pup!
Great video Lexy. Thanks for the pumpkin tip, I’ll try that. I too add a combination of food to her meat and give her a whole can of sardines in water twice a week. She’s six months old and has so much energy that she gets all the dogs (older ones) to all run and play together. She’s a very happy living alpha Shepherd puppy mix that’s pure muscle with a nice silky coat.
I am so glad I found you! We just started making our own dog food, too. I have 5 dogs to feed and one is 100lbs. We use our HMDF to supplement dry kibble. Your recipe and advice is very helpful.
I make my dog's food as well, but I can't use any commercially produced meats. So I use canned mackerel. I have used rabbit, but I can't find it anymore 😭. In addition to a lot of the same veggies you use, I also add a fruit (apple, banana or blueberries), Missing Link which is a supplement of trace minerals and sea kelp. I mix up the raw ingredients in my stand mixer, portion onto a baking sheet, and in winter I bake it as patties, but in summer I just freeze the portions raw and feed partially defrosted. Cooking does break down a lot of nutrients, so I like to do raw.
Great ideas. I preach caution with bones with dogs...check each can and also salt content. If they are cooked the bones can be ground. Love the kelp idea!
I would like to suggest you have a video on how to operate this pressure cooker. I have had mine for over a year and was so intimidated I never used it, I do make food at home for my doggie but will now will be learning how to use it.
I’ve prepared this for my little Pug, Carrie and she’s throughly enjoying it! She’s excited about meals again! I used Lamb Shoulder instead and it’s a hit! She’s an older dog, 14 years old and I’m trying to plump her up again and want to improve the look of her coat.
THANK YOU, NICOLE!!! My yorkie was hospitalized recently and I have been looking all over online to find some easy and nutritious recipes for my little sweetie that are vet approved. Watching these videos has been amazing and I am looking forward to beginning this new DIY journey today!!!
6 pounds ground Chicken ( or beef, turkey), 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 7 oz bag frozen spinach, 12 ounce green beans and 12 ounce peas, sweet potatoes with skin chopped, pumpkin puree, 4 lg diced carrots, 1/3 cup beet liver, 1 1/2 cup brown rice
I have to make note for the next time I make it, do not peel the sweet potatoes. I started not to peel them or the carrots because I know that’s where a lot of nutrients come from but I went ahead and did it anyway. I won’t next time.
I would skip the rice as well. Dogs don’t need all those carbohydrates. It’s just starch which is a filler and will make your dog fat. My dog won’t even touch rice. Also I would use at least a pound of ground beef. Dogs need some animal fat.
Thank you so much for this! I started putting roasted chicken on top of my dog’s food as a treat, but then she eventually stopped eating until I gave her the chicken on top…Everyone kept telling me she was too ‘spoiled’ but honestly if my dog can go entire two days without eating I thought okay maybe this food just sucks! 😢 For the record I am currently feeding her very expensive kibble and wet food mixed in. Excited to making this for her! 😊 Off topic but your home is beautiful. Love your floors!
This is my first time watching you, I have been making his food. I already give him omega-3's and vitamin because he is 13 years old and he have arthritis in his legs. I have noticed a big change in his legs, his energy and his fur, since I have been making his food. Love the way that you cooked cooked all the food together in the instant pot. I’m going to try that one versus making everything separate over the stove. I have subscribed and will be watching your channel more often, thank you for the tip.
You are such a good dog mommy! My dog passed away last week and although I am not ready to have another dog I will make sure the next one gets homemade dog food. Thanks for sharing your recipe 💗
So glad to see this video❤️❤️❤️❤️ I've had my baby Jameson on a human food diet for about 2 years now , I love it. No salt , sugar, garlic, onion ect . Just meats, liver, gizzards salmon oil and all the veggies and fruit he can eat.
I put just a little dollop of greek yogurt on top of my dog's food. I would have never thought of yogurt for dogs until I saw this. My dogs love the yogurt. Also, rather than using a calcium supplement, I put 6 eggs, shells and all in the vitamix and blend it. The eggs have more protein and omegas and the shells are an excellent source of protein.
Thanks so much for these videos! I have an older pug that's a bit over weight, and a large mixed breed 2 year old. They absolutely LOVE this food. My husband said he has noticed the pug being much more active since we started feeding them this. I get the biggest kick out of how excited they get.
I think this is great! The only thing is I went to the vet yesterday and told her I made my dogs food. She advised to stay away from peas as there have been some reports that peas have been linked to heart problems in some dogs! I researched on the internet and there is mixed information.😣I decided to stay on the safe side and will stop putting peas in my pups home made food.
Thank you so much for this recipe. My 14 year old Maltese, Hoku loves feeding time now. He is so excited to get fed and eats it up most of the time. He has more pep in his step as well! Your fur babies look so happy and content. Life Is Good!
How much are you feeding your Maltese each day? I have a ten year old Maltese that is overweight for her frame. I've recently switched to homemade, and we're seeing such incredible improvements in such a short time.
Thank you sooo much for sharing your recipe. my shitzu is a very picky eater... he absolutely loves your recipe. I'm so happy to see him finish his bowl leaving nothing behind. thanks again
I am so glad that I found your channel. My young son is highly allergic to all the main ingredients found in dog food. Making my own will help ensure my son does not come into contact with anything that may cause reactions.
TFS another great video. I so need those slow bowls for my pets. My girl eats so fast that she sometimes throws up so I have learned to withhold some of her food and have to feed it in segments. Slow bowl to the rescue! Also going to purchase that instant pot...this 2 hour prep/cook is tedious between baking or broiling their boneless/skinless chicken or turkey, then the veggies, cooking brown rice, carrots/sweet potatoes..whew!!! Thank you for all the great info...game changer!
Oh they are amazing 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 yes it is so so challenging doing it that way! Instant pot saves tons of time which I’m all for! Thanks so much for watching 💗💗
I add 2 cans of sardines, 2 eggs and shells crushed up, fresh garlic (helps with fleas) ginger and dried kelp…. I only use a kilo of turkey mince, not sure what that is in Pounds. Plus the same veggies and rice as you! Have only used my pressure cooker for the rice, will be using it for all of it!! ❤ THANK YOU
Ty for this video! I put my Yorkie on fresh pet. I had to take her off the dry dog foods…I tried so many different kinds & none of them helped her & her stomach problem was just getting worse & she was shedding like crazy! Ever since I changed her to fresh pet she’s so much better & her hair is beautiful again! She does eat a couple of small milk bones a day but other than that she gets fresh veggies for treats and I usually an egg with veggies for breakfast. After seeing how easy this was I will be trying it asap! 👍🏼
Thank you so much for this recipe ❤️ I am truly greatful, my puppy was just at the emergency vet from the kibble the VET had prescribed him.. after that I started him on a bland diet of brown rice and boiled chicken. I’m very greatful you posted this so I can have different ideas for major nutrients for my pup. Thank you!
Skie, you can use any rice with any meat. My dog like when I use glizzard chicken (cheaper at Walmart) chicken pea and white rice. I sometimes add with spinach, kale, broth, carrot, purée pumpkin , sweet pumpkin , etc. if I have $ but she seems happy enough with plain rice and meat most time I have on hand to add is potatoe, apple, carrot, and chickpea , not all . See sprinkle with multivitamin and probiotic powder or oil
Thank you!! I’ve been making food for my dogs for several months now and have been seeking a new recipe to try. I’m thrilled to have found your channel!! Thank you!
I had my chihuahua on Pedigree wet food since she transitioned from puppy food. I tried several different brands and she wouldn’t touch anything but the pedigree wet, in the individual packets, she would not touch anything from a can. But anyway, I noticed a lot of times, she would just let it sit. Someone told me about Fresh Pet, she LOVED it! Didn’t have any issues with her not eating. Then recently I noticed she wouldn’t eat it like she used to. Then when I gave her the homemade dog food, I had to buy a slow feeder because she ate it too fast. She absolutely loves the stuff, no problems getting her to eat now 🤣

All these other dog foods are making her sick
How much do u put in their bowl
I have been making homemade food for my dog for about a year, I freeze it by the week, so I am only cooking one a month.
raw food diet, no grains
Thank you for sharing this amazing story. You are dog mom of the year. ✨
Hello how are you doing
I save my eggshells. I wash them and then cook them in the oven @ 400 degrees for 15 minutes on a cookie sheet. After they cool, I crumble them in a plastic bag. I then take them out and grind them in a coffee grinder that I bought just for this. This is how I give my dog calcium the natural way :) I also make homemade dog food. When it cools then I add the ground eggshells.
That's a great idea!
You only have to bake them on 300° for about 7 minutes.
@@christinaedwards356 I was going by what my vet told me...
Yes! I do that too except the baking part. Add ins after the cooking make all the difference i.e. ground flax seed, nutritious yeast, neem, etc. 💚
Leave the shells unbaked, do all the washing and crushing but don't bake. 🌈💞
Hello. I'm a retired Veterinary Technician of 25 yrs. I have always made fresh food for my pets (both dogs and cats), and they are healthier because of it. It's fantastic to see you and others thinking outside of the box. Kudos!! ~^..^~
Hi, I am going to start cooking for my dog. How can I know how much protein, carbs, fats, etc to feed him daily?
How does one measure out the correct ratio of protein, carbs, veg, organs, etc. without knowing that it is just hard to know exactly what to buy.
With all these ingredients, how much does it cost to do this? Is it a weeks worth of food?
So excited to have found your channel and am trying this recipe now for my personal and foster dogs! ❤️
The way prices are increasing, I’ll be tripling this recipe so I can eat this with my dog. Looks good.
I just made the beef recipe from the second video and had a bowl myself, delicious 🎉

We feed our dogs homemade food too. Ground chicken or Pork, peas, sweet potatoes, chia seeds, olive oil. We worm our dogs with fenbendazole too!! Also called panacur.
Is that a natural de wormer ?
I have no idea but My Dad used to give me a tiny bit of Panacur when I was 9, I’m in my 40’s now, It cant be that bad for our pets
I made your recipe in my crock pot. 8 hours later, they absolutely loved it. My picky eater ate it without hesitation. Thank you.
Thanks for saying so. I gave my insta pot to my neice and wondered if a crockpot would work. :)
Haha! I did the same thing and so happy you gave the info on crock pot. Yayyyy!!!!
I love this kind of content. Our pets deserve to eat real whole food just as we do, not dry & can food packed with preservatives & such.
I wish every dog in the world had a Mommy like you !! xx
If you’re putting tunic powder in you have 2 use black pepper, also as it activates the tunic powder as a natural antibiotic x

Thanks for that I cooked it and dog loves it
Mixing different meat like turkey and chicken is it ok for them?
Wow. you sound like me.
The 15 year old passed away. I firmly believe he lived longer on homemade dog food. I continue the food for the other dogs.
Thanks for the tip!
Do you mean cook the liver separately? Then add to the mixture? I didnt understand.
Cook organ meats first?
How long have you been feeding this recipe and how is it going for you? Thanks for sharing this!
How long have you been doing this for?
I'm going on 3years with Charlie's diet. Charlie is a Chitzu poodle cross and is about 13 years, he is a rescue, I have had him for 8 years. He was maybe 5 or six when I got him. Before the homemade food he had huge issues with urgent poohs, vomiting, and skin issues. He is well now, he can't see , and he has earing issues but overall he is good. I hope to have im for a long time to come. I love him very much.
Where do I look for the hemp heart?
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, even human can't digest plant based omega 3 efficiently. Human can only get 20%-30% omega 3 from plants unlike animal omega 3 which is way more bio-absorbable to human. This is just how our digestive system be able to breakdown those nutrients from plants. Therefore, I'm not sure how efficient would have been for dogs.
Been using this recipe for 2 years now and my dogs been doing amazing with it! Also turned my moms senior golden retriever onto this recipe who has always struggled with weight and she lost 10 lbs!!
That is so amazing!! Thanks for sharing 🤗🤗

Justine-I have a female German Shepherd. What is your recipe?
Give that pups a kiss for me 🥰 ❤️
@@khalidking4629 just dropped the recipe in the comments, let me know if you can see it ❤️
I also make my dogs their food.
I do the same and have seen amazing health changes in my dog (he was almost blind and now not). Kicking myself for waiting so long. Vets had 'ni idea'
Please don't forget to use *lightly* cooked organ meats like beef liver and chicken hearts, ground muscle tissue isn't enough. Adding a poached egg also does wonders! Poached ensures they get the maximum nutrients out of the egg.

You may want to consider swapping out the rice for quinoa. I believe it’s a better more nutrient dense alternative.
Yes rice is high in cynaide as well and will cause issues in the long term
Quinoa, barley or wild rice. They don't contain arsenic like rice does.
Thanks! I do something very similar to this. Only difference is that I use white rice (I was told white rice was better for dogs) and I cook whole eggs with the food. Then I grind the eggs shells and all in the Magic Bullet with some water, and add it back.

Happy Wednesday friends 💗 Hope you guys enjoy yet another homemade dog food recipe 🤗 make sure to check out part 1 and 2 as well! Hope everybody has a great week!
What is the calorie content of a cup?
Hi! Please read my comment on vet recommendations to not cook all ingredients together snd why. Also that some supplemental powders cannot be microwaved. Ty.
How much do you feed them? We have 4 dogs that weigh 55, 65, 75 and 95 lbs. Looking to use this recipe but curious on the amount
@@brianhunter9072 she has it in the show notes.
GREEN PEAS ARE LINKED TO HEART DISEASE - DO NOT FEED IT TO YOUR DOGS
Also if you want to make a homemade recipe, just use balance it, the proportion of each ingredient is just as important as the choices of the ingredients themselves
Your pups are so adorable!! I have been making homemade food for mine for years. You are lucky you found a Vet that supports this philosophy!
This has made such a difference for my dog I. Just the week I have been feeding it to my dog. She absolutely loves this.
Thank you so much for sharing
I Give my Dog fruit as a snack, not with his meal (apples, pears, berries, watermelon, pineapple) Same with raw goat milk, whole milk kefir, or Greek yogurt (1-2 Tbsp.) I mix it with water as he doesn't drink water
His diet consists of Pastured Eggs Cooked with ground eggshells, Norwegian salmon oil, beef liver, turkey.
I want to make it it a crock pot too. Is the proportion of water the same as this recipe from a crock pot?
Wow great info! 25+ yrs crockpot dog food only to learn cooking on low preserves nutrients. Any more tips you’d care to share I’d
much appreciate!
I have made homemade dog food for twenty years but trying to write it out for a friend was proving a challenge. I found your video to share with her because you do such a great job of explaining the process and the benefits. Thanks.
Your puppers are so lucky for you I know they appreciate everything you do for them 😊
I made this last night for my dog and he loved it.
Thank
😀
I feel like I’m about to be the best dog mom after watching this! Thank u! 😂❤️❤️❤️
You are the most responsible dog mom ever!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your videos I love seeing my dog so happy and I love that I know I am feeding him well ❤️
How much does your GR weigh and how much do you feed per day of this?
@@elainesimmons3450 I never got an answer but yes I’ve made this I have been using this as a topper over the kibble (purina pro plan)
@@melissamorrison5314 Thank you
I am stunned at how enthusiastic my Westies are about this recipe.
I have 2 chihuahuas. How do I know how much to give them? Thanks.
hw much do you give your dog??
@@marilynfariello256did you ever find out how much to give your chihuahua? How many pounds does your dog weigh? Mine is 15 and I’m wondering
I make something very similar for my dogs, but I stopped using brown rice and use quinoa instead. Homemade is so much better for our dogs for sure!
Yes it is!! Thanks for watching :)
Hello
I use brown rice and oatmeal. For the grains anyhow
I use no grain at all. Meat and veggies is all she needs. Dogs don’t need carbs
OMG Bentley!!!
How much do you feed your chihuahua?
How did your pup do with the homemade diet?
They are enjoying that meal you put your heart into it. That is fine much love.
That’s great!!
Hello
Great ideas. I preach caution with bones with dogs...check each can and also salt content. If they are cooked the bones can be ground. Love the kelp idea!
I love how well you treat your dogs! I'm definitely using the Greek yogourt snack idea. Thanks!❤
Oh my gosh i love them. Seeing them already in the down position ready to eat was so precious.
THANK YOU, NICOLE!!! My yorkie was hospitalized recently and I have been looking all over online to find some easy and nutritious recipes for my little sweetie that are vet approved. Watching these videos has been amazing and I am looking forward to beginning this new DIY journey today!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello how are you doing
6 pounds ground Chicken ( or beef, turkey), 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 7 oz bag frozen spinach, 12 ounce green beans and 12 ounce peas, sweet potatoes with skin chopped, pumpkin puree, 4 lg diced carrots, 1/3 cup beet liver, 1 1/2 cup brown rice
No peas or rice for dogs per holistic vets
Will take note of recipe. Tnx
@@DianaMitchell-j5twhy no peas or rice?
For the record I am currently feeding her very expensive kibble and wet food mixed in. Excited to making this for her! 😊
Off topic but your home is beautiful.
That is awesome!
Do you put in the oven the egg shells?
If you don't put the eggshells in the oven, they won't get the calcium.
I love how you got this approved from your vet. I’m going to try this for my pup
Pretty funny. Vets try to " Approve. Or critque" u feeding real wholeome food.
The logic has left the room.
Great info! You are precious and so are your dogs!! Thank you for sharing!
Can I just say it's lovely to hear you talk with so much for your pups. Thank you for this recipe!
Thanks so much for these videos! I have an older pug that's a bit over weight, and a large mixed breed 2 year old. They absolutely LOVE this food. My husband said he has noticed the pug being much more active since we started feeding them this. I get the biggest kick out of how excited they get.
How much do you give? I gave a 12lb Yorkie and a 25lb mix breed, just seeing how much to give
Lentils, legumes and sweet potatoes and potatoes are all taurine (heart health) blockers is what I have been told
This recipe is amazing! I’ve been using it for my two goldendoodles, and they love it!
Your positive energy and love for your dogs are wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing your recipe with the dog fam community! Take care :)
Thank you!
That vet food is 1000 percent awful fillers amd junk
Skie, you can use any rice with any meat. My dog like when I use glizzard chicken (cheaper at Walmart) chicken pea and white rice. I sometimes add with spinach, kale, broth, carrot, purée pumpkin , sweet pumpkin , etc. if I have $ but she seems happy enough with plain rice and meat most time I have on hand to add is potatoe, apple, carrot, and chickpea , not all . See sprinkle with multivitamin and probiotic powder or oil
@@TheAdrz thank you!!!!
She absolutely loves the stuff, no problems getting her to eat now 🤣
The dogs eyes are so healthy, seems like they like the food or the camera, three stars in the house YAY! A win win channel.
You are the cutest!! Like a ray of sunshine ☀️ thanks for the recipe, I will def make it for our doggos and slowly transition them! ❤️
