  • This video shows you how to make my go-to washcloth pattern using the lemon peel crochet stitch from start to finish. I would classify this as a beginner-friendly pattern, as it uses no fancy stitches, just chains, single and double crochet. The fanciest part is the color change, which I show you several times, as well as a couple other tricks I like to use for the slip knot (courtesy of Jill @gumleaf_crochet on IG), adding a border, and weaving in your tails as you work.
    Yarn: Yarnspirations Lily's Sugar 'n Cream in Ecru (Main Color/Color A) and Overcast (Contrast Color/Color B)
    Hook: 6mm / J hook
    Written Instructions:
    Begin with Color A
    Ch 32
    R1: dc in 3rd ch, sc next, repeat across (15 dc, 15 sc)
    R2: Ch2, turn, *dc, sc next, repeat from * across (15 dc, 15 sc)
    R3: Repeat R2
    Switch to Color B
    R4: Repeat R2
    Switch to Color A
    R5-7: Repeat R2
    Switch to Color B
    R8: Repeat R2
    Switch to Color A
    R9-24: Repeat R5-8 found more times, with indicated color changes, making that last switch back to Color A for last 3 rows.
    R25-27: Repeat R2
    Do not tie off, begin border
    Border:
    Single crochet evenly around all edges
    Tie off, weave in ends.

    Thank you for your video! I have returned to crochet after 30 years. Your pattern, instructions, hints, and camera angle were fabulous. Gave me the confidence I needed after one “meh” washcloth attempt and one “give up.” Again many thanks!

    Pattern is lovely and the video tutorial is well-done. I do hate the way peaches and cream splits while working. I tried exactly one project using it and threw out the yarn afterwards because it was so hard to work with. I appreciate that it is a tough, no-nonsense cotton yarn that is economically priced, I just prefer to spend a little more and have a yarn that is more friendly to my hands and my patience :)

    • @HooksBooksWanderlust
      @HooksBooksWanderlust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get that! It can be a bit of an arm workout too! Softer cottons work just as well, like ILT Cotton, which is one of my faves!

    Great tip on weaving the end of the contrast color on the return row! Weaving in tails is so annoying. Very pretty stitch.

    This looks like a wonderful stitch, I've tried it before but didn't know the name. I had trouble figuring out which one was the double stitch and the single stitch, I would appreciate any help you could give me.

    • @HooksBooksWanderlust
      @HooksBooksWanderlust  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The texture comes from bending the double crochet to the level of the sing crochets next to it, so when you’re looking at it, the bumpy part is the double crochet and the parts between bumps are single crochet. I hope this helps!

    • @HooksBooksWanderlust
      @HooksBooksWanderlust  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sing crochets…single crochets, sorry for the typo!

    I don’t understand why you have all the tails to crochet around the border if they were crocheted over during the color changes? Maybe I missed something?

    • @HooksBooksWanderlust
      @HooksBooksWanderlust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only crocheted over them partially in the color changes, as I generally like to weave in a couple different directions to really secure the ends.

    Why use such a large hook?

    • @HooksBooksWanderlust
      @HooksBooksWanderlust  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like how the larger hook loosens the stitches, making the fabric less stiff. You don’t have to, it’s personal preference. 🥰

    • @temporarilyimmortal795
      @temporarilyimmortal795 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the larger hook for the base chain only, then went down a size for the rest. As a beginner, it made it much easier for me to work through the back loop of chain.
