  • Not sure what to do with yellow daffodil leaves after their finished flowering? This video shows you exactly how to care for daffodil leaves as their going dormant for the summer.
Catherine demonstrates when a daffodil leaf is ready to be pulled off, when to leave it in place a while longer, and what to do with all the halfway yellow leaves. It's important to leave daffodil foliage on the plant so it can replenish the food stores so the daffodil bulb can survive until the following spring. Learn exactly what to do so your daffodils stay as healthy as possible and thrive for years to come!

Take all leaves in your hand and tie a knot!… Very simple and looks tidy when done.

So helpful! I live in a wet climate so the leaves turn yellow and flop over and get slimy. The slugs hang out on them and they shade out the other plants coming in, and I’m sooo tempted to cut them off, but I don’t think they are quite ready yet

So incredibly helpful! I've been staring at them and tugging here and there and wondering if anything I was doing was good for the bulb. Now I know. Thank you, Catherine!

Thank you for the tips. I’ll use hedge shears to cut down the leaves to the viable portion a few times. It saves time and allows for light to get to the late spring and early summer flowers.

Thank you! Is this the same rule of thumb for other bulbs like tulips and irises?

We've been taught after blooming to braid a patch of bulbs and just leave the foliage at a lower stance until all dies.

Thank you for that information. Unfortunately I cut all my daffodil leaves at the bottom while they were still very very green. Silly me. Now i Know why I dont get as many flowers a year later. Qn. Can I get the leaves I cut off and scatter them above the daffodil bulbs. Or too late?
