You forgot about radar being slightly different, especially in south-west side of the staunton island, I'm referering the quarter of a round, that area of 'kingdom come' mission happened. IDK about other areas of the city, but ptobably there,'s differences also. (I couldn't find a GTA 3 map, so I brought a GTA LCS map but it doesn't matter, since it refers correctly exactly what area I'm trying to say.) On PC, the safehouse icons are purple, and the AmmuNation (gun) icon is green. On PS2, the safehouse icons are green, and the gun icon is white. I think the car bomb garage is different too.
That's actually a lot of random objects they left out of the PS2 version. Nothing essential on the one hand, but on the other all of these objects combined give some extra detail to the environment. Some of these locations look kind of empty on PS2. Perhaps, the system was having issues with data streaming. It's been a while since I played the PS2 version of GTA3 in particular but I remember that GTA SA had trouble keeping up with streaming in objects and textures if you were driving a really fast car.

Well generally aplha/beta version of all games is better than the final version.. The final version is worst because they have to be charge of hardware limitations so they must remove many things
Catalina has a different head model in the PS2 version, i honestly think that this model is better than that of later versions like PC and the Improved editions.
Hey Vadim M ! Nice video comparison ! I just wanted to show you something, maybe you will use it for the third part of the comparison or in the second part of the GTA III Beta analysis. Anyway, in this old GTA III for PS2 trailer (GTA 3 Trailer) at the beginning of the trailer, we can see the texture from GTA III PC on the train and Catalina model from the Xbox/PC version. In another video (I can't find the link, sorry) and in the E3 2001 demo, we can see that the color of the HUD is like on the PC and Xbox version (and we can also see the objetcs from the props.ini files). We can clearly see on both videos that the game is in beta (blue police cars, beta vehicles...) but it could mean that the changes made in the PC/Xbox version are from the beta/alpha. Maybe because the PC and Xbox ports were created at the same time than the PS2 version, and then they maybe didn't to update the game so it could be like the PS2 release ? Or maybe they thought these textures/models were better and didn't want to change ? I don't really know, I just wanted to show you this.
I'm not sure if those pre-release/alpha screenshots are valid comparisons as they are most likely doctored. When GTA III was released most gaming media was still in magazines instead of the internet, and screenshots were edited to make them more suitable for printing (and to catch the eye of the gamers).

Can you make comparison videos for GTA 3/VC/SA on Xbox vs PC/PS2? growing up I only played the Xbox versions of these games, and from this video the Xbox GTA 3 seems to use the best of both PC and PS2 versions apart from no shooting off limbs, and seems mostly to be using the PC version. The menu is different to both, and the Xbox doesn't have loading screens, it's the always same image with a loading bar from what I remember.

thing about the load screens on the PC is that they go by quick cause the PC version loads things faster. You might see them for a split second and thats it. You see that happen on really beefy PC's.

I remember just watching three different loadscreens (depending on what island you are) and it appeared only when you load your game for first time (Portland loadscreen with El Burro, Kenji, Misty, 8-Ball, Staunton with loadscreen of Donald Love, Asuka, others, and Shoreside loadscreen with Miguel and Catalina). Also when you go from one island to other using the bridge or tunnel, it appears some loadscreen for half a second
God i wonder how they would have optimized GTA III's Liberty city if they would've been able to. of course "Look at future gta games lol" but like with the style and technology they had, i bet if they had a bit more powerful stuff back then it would've looked also more like the Ghost Town, which is quite detailed.
Great game. I switched to pc Xbox and Ps2. On such a small screen you can't see a huge difference between pc full details and Ps2 with poor resolution. I recently turned on a 48 inch tv on ps2 and it looks dramatic.
Maybe GTA Vice City & GTA San Andreas are way greater on ps2,but now after i played GTA III on ps2 and pc i can say that GTA III on pc is 1000000 ways better than on ps2 ....
I think that ps2 couldn't support GTA3 so they decided to stream all files from disc for PS2 version,and maybe that's why some textures remain unused in PS2 version.

Машины перекрасили по одной простой причине - игру переделывали в темный стиль и изначально яркие синие полицейские машины под этот финальный темный стиль не подходили, поэтому их перекрасили в черный цвет. Единственное на что повлияли террористические атаки это обложка для US релиза и повод для разработчиков перенести релиз еще на пару недель, ибо игру явно доделывали в последние минуты.
