ballistic gamer removing a single effect wont make a game sell better and give better texture. PC port is worse than console ver apart from sharper images, better shadow and bigger resolution. Missing a lot of effects (like image reflection) despite ps2 has worse gpu than a low-med spec notebook nowadays. Not to mention the version shenanigans where people just degrade the game to 1.0 version for better experience, PC port could have been better.
The heat haze also looks much intense in PS2 version to cover the short draw distance due to the technical limitations, but the idea to use heat haze was very clever and aesthetic as it really feels like in the 90s movie set in Los Angeles
Ultraguy87 Especially the chopper blades. They look fancy. But the only thing I don't with the PS2/PS4 version of the game are dual rear wheels for the Vapid (Fits in the Vapid style )Yosemite. I don't know, thet just don't suit it, quite frankly.

well.. The PC versions had lots of better things too.. Better camera control.. especially on Vice city.. Better way on enabling cheats.. Installing mods.. Much much better native resolutions. Most of Ps2 games can only support up to 576i natively. Oh and you could always have better draw distance on PC.. It all depends on the hardware as well.
In my opinion, I own both PC and PS2 versions of GTA San Andreas, but I think the "feeling" of GTA San Andreas on PS2 is better. I don't know, the colours are better on PS2.
PS2 had better shaders, better reflections, effects, decorations and parked cars. Not to mention the PC version was more glitchy, had twitching cars and etc...

raeed zaman like, when I messed around a bit on the pc version I came to a free way and I didn't even have to do anything, all it took was for somebody to bump into another for it to just all turn into chaos on the streets for cars to be bunched up together
Since the Playstation 4 version runs on a built-in PS2 emulator. You can also consider this video to be "GTA SA PC VS PS4". However there might be some minor differences, since we don't know which PS2 game revision is stored inside.
To those saying that the ps2 version is better, you are right. But before you bash the PC you have to realize that it is not the systems fault but the fault of rockstar games who purposely did all this because they never care about the pc and were probably paid by console companies to cripple the ports to pc to make the consoles look better. It's not just laziness on the part of Rockstar. Remember: when the GTA series existed during the PS2 generation, Sony actually paid for time exclusivity. More time was given to Vice City and San Andreas under this contract, and it shows; both PC versions launched with missing assets to such a degree parts of the game felt like they were based on builds older than the original PS2 release. Vice City literally uses GTA III assets as placeholders, and has models with zero textures to them.
I actually think, although a little muddier looking graphically, the PS2 version looks better during the opening scene. It gives it a much better feeling of it being a hot, sweltering day.
You forgot that the stormy clouds in the PS2 was darker especially on the lighting during this weather while on the PC it's red and the lighting is bright,
PSOne & PS2 are the best consoles sony ever made, thanks to amazing games they had! Nowadays consoles are more powerful, but there's nothing to play on them. Sorry for my english.
There's nothing to play on them? Where have you been? Are you blind? Has so many good titles for the PS3 and now the, the most new, PS4.. I agree PS2 has so many epic classics, but the PS3 have its epic titles too, and since the ps3 it's more powerful, have better graphics too although I don't care that much about graphics, they are a good thing to have.
Some things you forgot: The textures of the roads of San Fierro are different on ps2 on PC they look nicer, The San Fierro tattoo parlor has got his own interior on PC, on PS2 the interior is the same one as in Los Santos
I knew about road textures. I thought that it would be in part 2. Here comes something funny. I read about tattoo parlor somewhere, but there was wrong information that Hemlock Tattoo parlor is different. Now i understand why they were the same. Thanks for the clue, it will be in a part 2.
i bet two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda also have a place in your heart.
The mood in ps2 was better, but I read that the light and all that was to cover up the limitations of the ps2, you can see the sun usually covering up details of buildings
I always thought that when the car twitches b/c AI are moving it is a problem with my PC...turns out it's not really. PS2 does deserve this one, console games are sometimes better. Especially with a classic like San Andreas. PC has some advantages also, like the ability to edit texture effects and/or resolution as well as render distance.
Pretty sad that somehow all of the PC ports of Rockstars games - save for Max Payne - are riddled with issues on PC. GTA being the most egregious of the lot. Funnily enough, the definitive version of GTA IV is on PC *despite* the fact the port was shit and the game can't even keep a solid framerate. It happens to perform better than on consoles and actually has everything those versions did. EDIT: Also a bug in the PC version, anytime you crash into a car, the car takes damage in the exact same place as your car. Meaning that if you crash into a car and your bumper gets bent, so does the car you crash into. Fucking weird.
ShakinJamacian The reason why the first Max Payne isn't crap on the PC is because it was designed specifically for the PC. The PS2 version is actually a port. Its rather rare in gaming where the console is a port of the PC version.
@Grym That's not how it works. Consoles (especially Sony consoles) have vastly different architecture than PCs, so when games are developed for consoles, they have to adhere to console hardware. Developing for different CPU architecture is extremely difficult. That's why emulators exist and why Sony emulators (except PPSSPP) always have a history of being difficult to develop for.
And that's why I prefer the PS2 version over the PC port. I still remember how I felt that there's something really wrong the first time I played it on PC. It felt too lifeless on the PC, regardless of it having higher quality of resolution and textures, and ironically, those higher textures just felt out of place, at least to me. Not to mention the bugs, glitches and fails here and there. And personally, I find the color correction atmosphere and visual effects to be the most unfortunate fails on the PC version. When I play it on PC, I always make sure that I have SilentPatch, SkyGfx and PS2 Features installed.
I will prefer the PS2 version exept for 2 things, 1, I prefer the weather on PC and 2 I prefer the object around the map like wrecked cars, rubbish, boxes and etc.
The double backtire was added again for the iOS and Android if you would like to know. I really love your channel though, you are great at this and diserves much greater attention, the videos are structured and not done in a rush, really like that :)
Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez The clear graphics expose the bad textures more and the colors are bland and gray, while PS2 has better atmosphere and more stuff added. There is no lag on PS2 either, just look at the cutscenes ;)
BTW the PS2 emulator for PC doesn't have orange tint as it's a feature of the emulator. It removes the fog from games 0:20 A orange fucking fog that doesn't let you see that far is not a perk. It's a con on PS2 but not on PC as you can adjust it to be more subtle. 0:30 On PS2 it uses a strong lens flare effect and on PC it uses a overbright + lens flare
I'm kinda socked people think the PS2 version looks better...I mean no offense but some of you need glasses. Just look at 0:44, the texture on PS2 is LITERALLY one big blob with no detail, and it's all EXTREMELY blurry. Plus I have a feeling that Orange color was added on to try to cover up the textures and draw attention from it (sorta like what is happening now with the XB1 and PS4 in some games) Edit: Great comparison by OP BTW, think you would ever do this for newer games like GTA 4 or GTA 5 when it gets released on PC?
Thank you so much for this, this game has always fascinated me, the ports couldve all been so much better especially given how excellent the Double Pack was. Been looking for something like this for almost a decade now! Can you compare the XBOX version sometimes?
You forgot to realize that the Crosshairs from both versions were different, where the PS2 ones are 3 triangles circling the target while the PC one is a triangle above the target.
I played both versions of GTA SA (more specifically both PC version and most recently the PS4 version) And I must say... Each version have its pluses and minuses...
oh man no wonder i feel empty playing the PC version can't feel the same aura when i play san andreas in ps2 back when i was only a child, i even blame aging with this feeling lmao. it seems they remove many things in PC.
So neither PS2 or PC have the reply function in the menu? The Xbox has it, and it's a great feature, you can watch the last 5-10 seconds of gameplay in scripted events (no audio or animations).
Is it bad that I still have a original copy of gta sa ps2 ( Game manual included ) because I thought it was taken off the shelfs when people discovered the hot coffee mod
The reason cars tremble on the gta PC version is because the scenes are real-time rendered graphics and, in playstation 2, some scenes are graphics videos that were previously rendered by some software on the computer.
I had both version back in the day but as a young kid I never noticed the pc version was so bad compared to ps2. Yeah something appeared strange when I switched to PC but I didn't noticed at all they were so different in so many details
Ever thought of re-recording this video but now with a backwards compatible PS3? Real hardware as far as PS2 goes and crystal clear HDMI output in somewhat "HDish" quality.
I love both platforms even though I always prefer PC because of the MS and KB, but GTA SA is the perfect visual experience on PS2. Pc version, ironically, looks kinda stripped down.
I'm guessing the cars are jittering because you have the frame limiter off. GTA games are really meant to be played at only 30 fps. Because the entire physics engine is based off of the framerate.
***** ***** No, mav6771 is right, the frame limiter do affect the game. I could not do some misions of the drivers school when I had the frame limiter off. The cars behavior was different
Here in Brazil, people used to sell modded gta san andreas versions for hacked ps2, there were all kinds of mods, like pc, you could spawn cars, change clothes and even spawn on different areas, it was fun and everybody had at least one modded gta in their collection. I remember I had gta Rio de Janeiro, they remade the city of san andreas to look like rio, it was fun and different. You could find all versions you could imagine, there was gta Superman, you could fly around the city as superman and do missions, gta dragon ball, gta spongebob squarepants, gta elite squad...
Is the PC version based on an early version of the game? Some of this makes no sense, like in the second part of these videos, the destructible statues on PS2 but not on PC, and the slight texture changes and name changes on PC version. It just seems so odd.
I own both of these versions and I have to say that the PS2 version looks better enough than the PC since the visual darkness makes it looked more atmospheric.
I value aesthetic over resolution and graphics. PC and Xbox have better graphics. But ps2 I feel has the better aesthetic and I can immerse myself more in the game. The orange atmosphere, the heat waves, sun glare, it all felt like California.
And the driving? Have you tried driving with the keyboard? Feels clunky The mouse aiming yeah, way better obviously but they could've improved it even more on PC by taking off that fucking circle from the crosshair and only have the dot like in GTA V Also the 60fps can be achieved nowadays but back then you couldn't because the game was badly optimized on PC (just like GTA IV), nowadays since we have better hardware its easy to run the game
@@mainsmain You can always buy xbox or ps controller, connect it to your pc and install gamepad fix as a mod so it would work correctly, then switch to driving with a controller. If for some reason you still want to use keyboard, then it obviously won't have turning sensitivity like gamepad since there is no depth to key press, but you can kinda emulate it by pressing and unpressing the key at the right moment so you would take same turning path as if you were using sticks for it
Huh, seems to me that they wanted to really add more detail to the PC version, but were too pressed for time to add the effects they implemented in the PS2 version. So really, the PC version was basically a Beta version given off to another team, while the main team worked on the PS2 version, hence the more stylized aesthetic direction and small details you see in it.
It's a shame the PS2 version is better but I still own a ps2 silver slim and I still own san andreas no loss ps I always liked the hazy orange atmosphere it gives the game character opposed to clear weather
@Corp Honestly, it mainly has to do with the atmosphere of the PS2 version. Each part of the map (LS, SF, Countryside etc) has like its own feeling to it which is due to the PS2's timecycle I think. This kind of detail has gradually disappeared in each new iteration of the game... Just look at the DEfective Edtion! Simply, gone. But yeah, the Xbox version doesn't really impress me in terms of that, unlike the GTA 3 and VC Ports on the platform. Those are faithful with graphical enhancements! Also, quite nitpicky of me, but I personally prefer the PS2 textures due to better consistency of how they look. You can see how messy textures are in the Xbox version, some are very high quality, while some kept the PS2 original textures. (One example of this is the Flint County road textures after leaving bridge from Santa Maria Beach. R* literally kept the PS2 road textures for that one big portion of the map and not update them.)
The ps2 version everything blends in and looks natural. PC version everything looks too spaced out and contrasted. I actually think the “definitive” edition has a way better atmosphere than the pc version with the new added fog effects although the PS2 version will never be beat.
Unfortunately Rockstar has a long history of not optimizing their games for the PC or poorly converting them. They did a good job with GTA 3 and Vice City but San Andreas even the controls felt wrong and more awkward then the previous GTA games. This sadly to say is my least favorite GTA game.
***** Piracy exists on all platforms, not just PCs. It also not an issue about piracy, some Developers are better at optimizing for the PC platform then others and since GTA 3 was released Rockstar have had a consistent track record of poorly optimizing their games. Where as EA most of their games looked and played better on the PC compared to the console version. Including BF3 and BF4 to name a few.
6:10 well for some reason, my version of ps2 does not have that hidden pay n spray. It might have been patched on some later versions, because I bought the game in 2012 or 2013, actually around when this video came out, so there is a very high chance that it is one of the latest versions.
What you say is correct, this bug was patched in later versions for PS2 during the following months. If you buy the "Greatest Hits" version, you will notice that this error is gone and that is because the latest version of the game.

Developing for different CPU architecture is extremely difficult. That's why emulators exist and why Sony emulators (except PPSSPP) always have a history of being difficult to develop for.
@@totally_not_a_skeleton-old not in this gen, thanks to amd apus.
Now i missed playing that game...that music reminds me of the loading screen and im excited to play everytime
I never knew there were so many fidderences between my PS2 Versio and the PC Version.
I will prefer the PS2 version exept for 2 things, 1, I prefer the weather on PC and 2 I prefer the object around the map like wrecked cars, rubbish, boxes and etc.
+Fran2002 not the load time
and higher resolution?
And also the exclusive two player freeroam mode that was cut on PC at that time.
+guy random (someone with common sense) This game looks akward with high resolution
Shiggy honestly i find it much nicer with very clean models and scenery, the characters looked funny in all cases
but it runs soo much smoother on pc
guy random Everyone has a other taste , i like the ps2 version and you pc
The double backtire was added again for the iOS and Android if you would like to know. I really love your channel though, you are great at this and diserves much greater attention, the videos are structured and not done in a rush, really like that :)
PC version is better.
Runs smoother and clearer graphics.
And especially no lag.
yeah and missing textures and extra stuff.pc sucks
***** they got paid to fuck up the PC port so shitty consoles don't look so bad. It is sad that consoles have to pay to make the PC version shitty

It removes the fog from games
0:20 A orange fucking fog that doesn't let you see that far is not a perk. It's a con on PS2 but not on PC as you can adjust it to be more subtle.
0:30 On PS2 it uses a strong lens flare effect and on PC it uses a overbright + lens flare
The PS2 was well-known for it's memorable piss-yellow filter. We loved every minute of it.
I'm kinda socked people think the PS2 version looks better...I mean no offense but some of you need glasses. Just look at 0:44, the texture on PS2 is LITERALLY one big blob with no detail, and it's all EXTREMELY blurry. Plus I have a feeling that Orange color was added on to try to cover up the textures and draw attention from it (sorta like what is happening now with the XB1 and PS4 in some games)
Edit: Great comparison by OP BTW, think you would ever do this for newer games like GTA 4 or GTA 5 when it gets released on PC?
Thank you so much for this, this game has always fascinated me, the ports couldve all been so much better especially given how excellent the Double Pack was. Been looking for something like this for almost a decade now!
Can you compare the XBOX version sometimes?
I have everything to realize this, but I don't know when I do it. I want to release GTA 3 Xbox first, then Vice City, then San Andreas.

PC Started With Main Menu Is Also Later From Nex Gen From GTA V
PS2 Started With Quickly To New Game Or Load Game
You forgot to realize that the Crosshairs from both versions were different, where the PS2 ones are 3 triangles circling the target while the PC one is a triangle above the target.
I play on PS2 and I must admit that sunlight in PS2 version can be annoying.
Great vid ;) Did you use SquidPhysics' GTA SA Theme cover in this?
Yes, it is SquidPhysics. I should add this in the description.
pc: can i copy your homework?
ps2: yeah but get some things incorrect so they won't k ow you copied
Hehehe..
Ps2: And make your handwriting a little better than mine
I played both versions of GTA SA (more specifically both PC version and most recently the PS4 version)
And I must say...
Each version have its pluses and minuses...
oh man no wonder i feel empty playing the PC version can't feel the same aura when i play san andreas in ps2 back when i was only a child, i even blame aging with this feeling lmao. it seems they remove many things in PC.
Thankfully can all be restored via mods
So neither PS2 or PC have the reply function in the menu? The Xbox has it, and it's a great feature, you can watch the last 5-10 seconds of gameplay in scripted events (no audio or animations).
Kyzer Buhnzi I meant replay

In the mobile version of GTA-SA, Trucks have Dual-Wheels Too.
Is it bad that I still have a original copy of gta sa ps2 ( Game manual included ) because I thought it was taken off the shelfs when people discovered the hot coffee mod
Aha, you thought it was rare!
Isaac Diaz Actually, you can get good money for the original PS2 San Andreas (with hot coffee included in the files)
of course it is not bad, you have something special
i found a ps2 copy of gta sa that included a printed sheet with all the cheat codes in it at the thrift store.
Consoles... appreciate what you have now. Because we have mods. Which will make this game feel like an upgraded version of GTA V.
the worst thing about the ps2 version is the autoaim , makes the game really easy , the pc version is more challenging .
Auto Aim is literally harder than PC manual aim
I mean auto aim just aims on the wrong people and shit
The real problem about the autoaim, is that when the autoaim picks random pedestrains instead of picking enemies.
To be honest I like both, I don't really have a favourite. From it's the original version.
Lhey
lol, i've seen the music covering in SquidPhysics, that took from there
The reason cars tremble on the gta PC version is because the scenes are real-time rendered graphics and, in playstation 2, some scenes are graphics videos that were previously rendered by some software on the computer.
I thing to note is that we can play the ps2 version on pc using the pcsx2 that is what i am doing right now
Thankfully some of the things that were only avaliable in ps2 has been added in mobile such as the dual wheel on the truck and the peds spawn point.
Well youcan mod it on pc so all the feature will returned in pc
yup there sure is all lot of mod in PC .
I had both version back in the day but as a young kid I never noticed the pc version was so bad compared to ps2. Yeah something appeared strange when I switched to PC but I didn't noticed at all they were so different in so many details
Nah pc is better
Ever thought of re-recording this video but now with a backwards compatible PS3? Real hardware as far as PS2 goes and crystal clear HDMI output in somewhat "HDish" quality.
I love both platforms even though I always prefer PC because of the MS and KB, but GTA SA is the perfect visual experience on PS2. Pc version, ironically, looks kinda stripped down.
0:00 Just that sound of opening the spray can makes me nostalgic damn.
You left out SAMP as it's now a pop up when you buy GTA SA from steam
I'm guessing the cars are jittering because you have the frame limiter off.
GTA games are really meant to be played at only 30 fps. Because the entire physics engine is based off of the framerate.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I was just assuming because of the way physics changes in vice city and 3 when the frame limiter is off.
***** ***** No, mav6771 is right, the frame limiter do affect the game. I could not do some misions of the drivers school when I had the frame limiter off. The cars behavior was different

dude it's been 8 years you could've done that earlier
Here in Brazil, people used to sell modded gta san andreas versions for hacked ps2, there were all kinds of mods, like pc, you could spawn cars, change clothes and even spawn on different areas, it was fun and everybody had at least one modded gta in their collection. I remember I had gta Rio de Janeiro, they remade the city of san andreas to look like rio, it was fun and different. You could find all versions you could imagine, there was gta Superman, you could fly around the city as superman and do missions, gta dragon ball, gta spongebob squarepants, gta elite squad...
PS2 4ever!! :D
Weirdo.
Kgoldstar I just like saying weirdo
Is the PC version based on an early version of the game? Some of this makes no sense, like in the second part of these videos, the destructible statues on PS2 but not on PC, and the slight texture changes and name changes on PC version. It just seems so odd.
I own both of these versions and I have to say that the PS2 version looks better enough than the PC since the visual darkness makes it looked more atmospheric.
orange atmosphere is awesome
5:11
The pc version is
A bit looking like gtav graphics ,a bit not totally ,in frist look
Yeah right.gta 5 graphics......
I value aesthetic over resolution and graphics. PC and Xbox have better graphics. But ps2 I feel has the better aesthetic and I can immerse myself more in the game. The orange atmosphere, the heat waves, sun glare, it all felt like California.
Pc-
Easy 60 FPS
Mouse aiming (Auto aim always fails me, and aiming with a controller is way harder than a mouse)
mods
And the driving? Have you tried driving with the keyboard? Feels clunky
The mouse aiming yeah, way better obviously but they could've improved it even more on PC by taking off that fucking circle from the crosshair and only have the dot like in GTA V
Also the 60fps can be achieved nowadays but back then you couldn't because the game was badly optimized on PC (just like GTA IV), nowadays since we have better hardware its easy to run the game
Main's Main Driving with keyboard is pretty fluent once you get used to
It. Just no pressure control.
@@mainsmain You can always buy xbox or ps controller, connect it to your pc and install gamepad fix as a mod so it would work correctly, then switch to driving with a controller. If for some reason you still want to use keyboard, then it obviously won't have turning sensitivity like gamepad since there is no depth to key press, but you can kinda emulate it by pressing and unpressing the key at the right moment so you would take same turning path as if you were using sticks for it
@@mainsmain the driving doesnt feel clunky to me. tho maybe it's because i played the pc port for years now and it feels natural to me.
PS2 is the best to play on these old games, but it's not that fun like on PC
Left down corner of that yellow screen where you can read text. ROCKETMAN :-D
It's a shame the PS2 version is better but I still own a ps2 silver slim and I still own san andreas no loss
ps I always liked the hazy orange atmosphere it gives the game character opposed to clear weather
Feels like the sunny warm west coast!
i can't believe that there are people out there who know this game down to it's trash cans

Yes it looked weird
The yellow tint in the PS2 brings,80s memories that I never had
It's official, PS2 has won over PC :)

Untill mods get involved.
GTA SA is the one game of the GTA Trilogy that I wish got the PS2 port instead of the Xbox port, and vice versa for GTA 3 and VC...
In conclusion : Steam PC Version + Unofficial Patches = Best GTA:SA Version.
PC version is similar to GTA SA HD on the PSN store, great to play but just doesn't feel the same without that orange glow
The ps2 version everything blends in and looks natural. PC version everything looks too spaced out and contrasted. I actually think the “definitive” edition has a way better atmosphere than the pc version with the new added fog effects although the PS2 version will never be beat.
Watch vadims video about why the definitive edition is garbage
now I get why it felt boring to play on PC years after having played it on a ps2
Didn't know emulation removed the orange atmosphere, that made it unplayable for me on original hardware, may have to give the game another shot.
0:40 lol even the pavement textures are different. PS2 uses GTA VC pavement textures.. I don't get it why R* removed/changed so many cool things.
Unfortunately Rockstar has a long history of not optimizing their games for the PC or poorly converting them. They did a good job with GTA 3 and Vice City but San Andreas even the controls felt wrong and more awkward then the previous GTA games. This sadly to say is my least favorite GTA game.
*****
Piracy exists on all platforms, not just PCs.
@@eviltigz yes that is true, the GTA IV PC port was horrible

6:10 well for some reason, my version of ps2 does not have that hidden pay n spray. It might have been patched on some later versions, because I bought the game in 2012 or 2013, actually around when this video came out, so there is a very high chance that it is one of the latest versions.
What you say is correct, this bug was patched in later versions for PS2 during the following months. If you buy the "Greatest Hits" version, you will notice that this error is gone and that is because the latest version of the game.
U missed out on some good music that was taken out on that 1st copy of San Andreas also
