      He's the man - you have to respect any player thats done the sort of gigs Pete's done. It might not be the "coolest" CV, but he's played in front of 80,000 people more times than I've played in pubs!

    This proves that Gibson's attraction is all in our heads. Bolting on necks works just as good as gluing a tenon joint, no matter how many self interested luthiers try to tell us otherwise. Still want most things Gibson make though.

    • @stephenowen3383
      @stephenowen3383 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends to me. Some are more comfortable than others.

    • @CNCTEMATIC
      @CNCTEMATIC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      playing comfort of Gibsons comes from the shorter scale length and neck geometry, not the method of attaching the neck. the sound is way more subjective, they sounded pretty close to 335s to me, difference a bit "woodier" and "brighter" - not "thinner". but that's all in ones ears. I would prefer a Gibson. its cooler. But with electronic/amp/effects mods you could get whatever sound you wanted, including 335

    • @CNCTEMATIC
      @CNCTEMATIC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      yeh me too. I mainly meant hardware-pickup mods

    • @TheHerpieDerpies
      @TheHerpieDerpies 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Neck-throughs don't require a neck heel, making them more comfortable when playing higher up on the fretboard. Also, there's not really a audiable difference between bolt-on and set necks. It has more to do with hardware and pickup configurations.

    @ 12:59 I heard Pete mention that the Fender Coronado 11 has a solid block under the bridge so that will keep the guitar sustaining the string longer but I believe that you have a misplaced concept of sustain. In fact it's the opposite! if there was no block under the main structure of the guitar where the bridge is mounted the guitar would ring forever as with some of the early B.B. King 33? style Gibson guitars that did not have a block.
    To test this theory you might want to try this. Without plugging in a Les Paul, play a single G note (5th fret) on the D sting & measure how long it continues to ring then play a Gibson J-200 on the same note & measure how long that note resonates. You will quickly assess that the lighter the material, the longer it will sustain whereas the heavier more dense wood will help in keeping the feedback in check. Not only are the pickups potted with wax to keep the acoustic feedback from taking over but the wood used in an electric guitar needs to be fairly dense to reduce the unwanted vibration which in turn produces the unwanted howling & feedback. It is really a delicate balance because the neck also comes into play with sustain as well.
    Back in the early 70's a lot of guitarists attempted to use the larger B.B. King 33? style bodies but found the unwanted (uncontrolled) feedback was hard to cope with & were happy when the Gibson 335 came on the scene with a solid block which made the guitar much more manageable.
    I could be wrong but it would certainly make for a good & honest video to put this myth to rest. In the last few years I've heard this same comment being made by many players & have wondered where they got their information from regarding hardwoods providing more sustain that of birch, poplar, or even ash. If you've ever heard a speaker cabinet made of pure Oak you will hear instantly that it is the worst wood you could choose to make a speaker cabinet out of. Pine & Birch are choice woods for most guitar amp manufacturers because they produce a louder & more evenly resonating cabinet that adds to the fundamental sound of the speaker mounted in that cabinet & I believe the reverse is true for electric guitars.
    By the way guys, you two bring a nice light touch to the videos because it's not always desirable to listen to a dude whipping off 342,582 licks a second. It's not a race to the STOP sign & I want to hear the decay between notes because it brings out the beauty of the tone & dynamics of the instrument. This is not to take away from anyone's shredding ability, but on an instrument such as this I don't think a shredder is your target customer. Perhaps demos designed around the suspecting victim would prove to be more politically & musically correct than turning this over to a basher (as stated by Pete).
    Keep up all the excellent presentations & demos that you & your staff produce Lee as they are very helpful. Having fun is a good thing so tell Pete he can BASH away all he wants because I couldn't stop laughing at both of you.
    It proves you enjoy your work.
    Cheers guy's, Cheers!

    A decent guitar for the money now at the deal price which really is probably the price point it should have always been sold at from the start, as Fenders original price was way too much. Though they probably would sell them all, flying off the shelves at Andertons if they were at £299 !!!
