    In this detailed video we'll build the absolute BEST Partscaster we can build with guitar parts from Temu. Temu reached out to do another video and I didn't want to do it unless I could build something I'd actually PLAY. I later found out that Sean from Scar My Guitar also got parts for a Strat build, so we decided to do a build off. The ground rules were we had to use all Temu parts with the exception of TWO items. I chose to use tuners and electronics from elsewhere. Everything else is from Temu. Enjoy!
    The items I used in today's video:

      Brad, I have a question for you.
      I have an older solid state Kustom Quad head.
      The pots on it are super scratchy and I've used some "electronics cleaner" on them to hope that takes care of the issue.
      I'm going to try it out over the weekend.
      If that doesn't take care of it, could you please help with this issue.
      This amp means a lot to me, it belonged to a friend who passed away 15 years ago.

Too much work to make them playable and people don't want to pay for the "cheap setup" work. A Fender needs some tweaking. These chaepies often need neck angle corrected, new tuners, new nut, fret levelling and on.on and on. No thanks. Been there, done that.

If you know what you are doing, and you focus on the details, you can make something that is either on-par or surpassed any production line offering. Today, of course, we started talking about getting a splittable humbucker for it, adding a switch to run it in various modes; also polarity flip switch for the neck singlecoil creating extra versatility. Tip for the tremelo/wigglestick: put a small spring under the bar, it provides enough tension that the bar doesn't swing around and stays where you place it. There are springs made for it but something like the spring from a pen might work.

    • @jamespell8091
      @jamespell8091 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I take a plastic bag from the store and stuff it in as I screw in the wiggle stick ultimately creating a bushing where the threads mesh. Now it doesn't drop or whatever but most of all to me is there is no play between the threads. .as I wiggle the stick the strings tweak exactly without the play of loose threads. Just kind of thread the bag into the bridge with the bar then rip the remainder of the plastics away. Done

    • @mikefarquhar5063
      @mikefarquhar5063 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Ptfe,Teflon, none of that works on the treads it will be stiff and then losen up, use the spring that has been designed to solve this problem, there are also small ball bearings, pop the spring in, then one ball bearing then the trem arm, screw it in till you have the tension you like or the right amount of tension so the arm won't wobble in the socket, the ball bearing allows more tension therfore more responsiveness snd less wobble because the threads are under tension causing friction, but the ball bearing adds or more takes away the friction of the top of ghe spring contact to the arms end flat tip enough so the arm will still swing and drop out of the way freely leaves it out of the way and responsive to slight touches. Plus adds more height so you don't have to bend the arm up as much so your not accidentally hitting the volume and tone knobs, a felt washer in-between the knob and pick guard I use on the volume knob to make a stiffer knob, yes I said stiffer knob lol, this is good if youve got clean pots that turn very easily or have just sprayed electrical contact cleaner in on a maintenance check.

      I bought one. I am making a Van Halen strat for fun. I don't care about it at all. I am just using all the parts I have gotten over the years. The China neck is OK IF you are ready to do a fret levelling, sand the neck (it IS a baseball bat) and refinish it. I chucked the nut to install a Floyd Rose. The nut fell apart in my hands. It is a complete POS but works for the guitar I intend to build. In the end, it IS a piece of maple shaped like a strat neck. The rest is up to you to make it good.

You add the paint on top to what your wanting to fill in then you'll get a credit card or piece of hard plastic with a straight edge and push firmly and pull the card towards you essentially pushing the paint into the areas that are recessed and removing the paint on the other areas that are flat. Very simple and effective way to get an even painted look without it pulling the paint out of the areas that are engraved. Just thought that I would share that knowledge with you. I've learned a lot from watching your program and I am thankful for all that you've shared. I'm glad there's still people out there that speak their mind an are not afraid of what others may think or say. Keep up the great work brother! Catch you on the next video. 🤘

    Brad, one reason I'm watching this video is that I bit that particular bait as well -- meaning I bought a white Temu Strat body myself. I got it before a more important project came up, so I have to back burner this one, but that gives me time to find out more about it. Thank you very much for this video, which I am mining for ideas.

    The company that made those knobs Floer or something like that. I have used several of their picks and they are amazing for the price. They are really good about give the real specs for the pickups they sell. They offer a good variety too and a lot of vintage wound stuff. Which is not normal these days. Especially for import.

  • @time3947
    @time3947 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    That's a nice build and definitely a nice strat tone flavor. Not exactly the tone flavor I have in mind for a strat.
    I am gradually modding an Ibanez AZ47P1QM to be my general purpose shredder super strat. I have been dealing with some issues because of where Ibanez cheapened out on it, which I just about have sorted out. I am now starting to think about the pickups I want in it. It has some generally nice pickups in it, but they are just a little too dark and sterile for me. It is an HSH config.
    My tonal goals are to have coils splits on the humbuckers. I am wanting more of a Gibsony LP sound when in full humbucker mode, but when they are split, to have more of a throaty strat sound (think John Mayerish).
    My next mod will probably be to have the neck profile sanded down to more match the profile of an Ibanez wizard II neck, which I have on another guitar, and that neck profile is the most comfortable for my fat wide fingers.... so I think it is the best neck they ever did.
    I also want to find an adjustable spring mod for the 2 point trem that will allow to tune from E to Eb and readjust on the fly without much issue. I may have something for that.
    Once I do that, it will be set... and it will be my general purpose playing guitar.
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Excellent build! I'm a big fan of using lower output, vintage/PAF style pickups with an HSS configuration. The reason is that I would rather user normal output single coils rather than higher output to match a high output humbucker. I've been through that with Duncan Distortions or DiMarzio X2Ns paired with Quarter Pounders or SDS-1s and it's just overkill. Three of the easiest to work with humbuckers for a good HSS are the Duncan 59, Pearly Gates and George Lynch Signature Screamin' Demon. The DiMarzio PAF Pro is also a good one. I think the objective is to keep the bridge pup under 10 k.

      If the humbucker is powerful, but not too crazy, you can coil cut and mix it with the other singles and it is good. The PAF Pro also sounds good with a coil cut.

    The nine one six humbucker is what I would use because its a PAF ish output.
    If you go one bridge hum and a neck single you can get away with a hotter bridge pick up.
    I tend to like the Lindy Fralin blues special singles if I am going hum single.
    The big slug single you have may be an old Tom Anderson. I have one of his early big slug humbuckers and its really nice and not too hot. Really articulate too.
    I use an old section of guitar string for ground wires for pots too.
    The body wood is probably Luan or other form of Asian mahogany. Lots of your lawsuit era Ibanez, Greco and Edwards Les Pauls used Luan.

    And yes, you did the right thing when soldering the pots back together with a string! I use cu-wires but the steel string works since the soldered connection itself and low resistance in the wire used is the important thing.
    Using the shielding as a common ground connection is NOT the way to do it. When everything is soldered together, the nut holding the pot can become loose (as they tend to do sometimes) without doing anything to the sound as loose ground connections certainly can do.

      I think too much is being made of all these Temu, AliExpress budget guitars.
      Shaun of Scar my Guitar has the experience and the proper tools to fix all the fret issues, switching to better tuners and bumping up the electronics. That all costs extra money, and if you don't know how to do the work yourself, you'll be paying a premium for a luthier. So factoring in all these costs. I think a good used Squier, Mexican Strat or tele would get you a solid guitar that doesn't need any upgrades. Just something to think about when all these channels keep hyping up these budget brands.
