    I hope you review the Fender Starcaster reissue next. I'd love to see that get a spotlight on it.

    The true vintage Coronado's are honestly one of my favorite guitars! They are an extremely affordable vintage guitar. I had one in the sunburst color and I sold it which was a HUGE mistake but I'm finally getting another vintage one in cherry red that I can't wait for! Now I have played these reissues and they aren't bad either, don't let the "made in china" fool you cause they play great too! PS. The narrator looks like Jackson Browne's cousin.

    I think this guy is pretty well suited for reviews and such, rather than rig rundowns. And that's totally not a bad thing at all. Play to his strengths, and keep up the good videos.

    Would love it if you guys did a review of the Starcaster. I've been thinking about ordering one, but I cant find a lot of good reviews with the kind of quality sound you guys have in your videos. Great job on this one.

    I have wanted a Coronado 2 for over 30 years. I will probably pick a reissue this year. Thanks for the review. I see you uploaded this over 3 years ago so I guess I'm a little late.

    I have both versions, my 67 is refinished in natural, my reissue is like this beautiful Black Cherry Burst. I love them both.

    Another great review John, love your show "Nashville" and the CMA's, just don't know how you manage it all but you do it so well. I guess it's like Willie said - "If you slow down, you go down". Cheer's.

    I really wish they could've revived the wildwood finish for these. Those guitars looked amazing

    • @jenlennon6614
      @jenlennon6614 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if that would be possible for them to do. The wildwood finishes if I'm correct were kind of controversial because it might not have been the most environmentally friendly. if they could find a way to recreate those finishes that would be great because I love the look of the wildwood finish.

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Johnson I thought the wildwood finishes were dye added during growth which wouldn't be a problem I wouldn't have thought. I guess no manufacturers invest in wood anymore until it is in plank form by which time it would be too late to "wildwood" it

    • @jenlennon6614
      @jenlennon6614 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul McCaffrey I'm pretty sure that wildwooding the trees wasn't environmentally safe but I'm not as sure why they were. Chicago Music Exchange did an excellent showcase of a wildwood Coronado and the guy showcasing it explains it a lot better.

    • @PaulMcCaffreyfmac
      @PaulMcCaffreyfmac 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Johnson We're thinking back to the '60s when people were ripping rosewood out of Brazil by the ton so I guess it wouldn't be such a surprise to find that the whole process was dangerous one way or another

    Well that slide with the gain setting really sells it for a Blues guy like me . Sometimes you can find the patented genre sounds in some of the guitars and rigs where it is little known

  • @Casey_J96
    @Casey_J96 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I can't stand when this guy does rigs but man can he play! Great at the bluesy jazz stuff and good ol rock n roll.

    Good review & excellent player John. You played just what I wanted to hear to describe the sound of that guitar. (others play grung/metal & nothing else) There's nothing wrong with that kind of music but a review should play a little bit of everything like you did.

  • @clayton56tube

    I love mine, bigger body than the other semi-hollows,, sounds a little deeper to me. Also when I sit with it the sweet spot of the neck is right where I want it without reaching. Also the only semi hollow with a 9.5 radius. Very nice neck. The only thing I want is a single coil in the bridge for spaghetti western sounds.

    Reminds me of Ovation's Storm Series; Thunderhead, Tornado, etc., semi-hollow electrics with the (bolt-on) neck. I'd like one with a bigsby.

    • @jmacc9876
      @jmacc9876 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the original Coronado (Not the Coronado II's) were completely hollow and only had 1 single coil pickup (in the neck position)

  • @neilfordan
    @neilfordan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    bolt on is a very practical thing. don't know why people have issue with that.

  • @superelectic45
    @superelectic45 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a 67' Coronado and it really wasn't very good. The fittings were very cheap and nasty and the pickups weak. However the hollow body was a beautiful piece of work. I think this reissue will be a lot better as a player, but I think there are much better 335 type guitars out there for less money.

    The only thing that makes this look like a Fender, is the Headstock, otherwise it's just a plain old $99 no name hollow body electric found at most paun shops with the F holes cut out. Don't get me wrong this one does have a nice sound to it, but, it's still not the real Mcoy FENDER is known for.
