If I remember correctly, Sneasel did a minimum of 40 and up to 140, because of the 2 Darkness Energy effects stacked. It could go to 60/160, if you got lucky with draws. I knew some people that actually ran Defenders to have some way to try and mitigate it. Even then, you needed 2 attached for a 120 HP to survive a powered up Sneasel. I remember this deck so well after the woman who ran my local Pokémon League had her kids run the "Gym Battles." They would use things like Haymaker, Raindance and Sneasel to intentionally stop people from earning gym badges and other rewards WotC would send to give out.
Do you see how many different pokemon were used back then? You mentioned AT LEAST 10 different decks there. Now the tournaments are like... "Mirror Match (x100)".
As a kid when Pokemon came out, I wasn't too big on the meta. Main thing I remember is that our locals wanted to ban Slowking because they knew it was Mistranslated. I was in the 10 and under group, this was the last Pokemon tournament I was at until 2023. I ended going last minute and not qualifying.
Dark feraligatr doesn't stop the baby rule so you still have to flip a coin to try to attack into them. It only stops attacks and pokemon powers and the baby rule isn't an ability but a game mechanic. Learned that one the hard way...
I didn't know Neo Revelation had an Espeon card? I always knew that Neo Discovery had 2 Espeons. 1 holo and 1 non holo, which both had different attacks. And Dark Espeon in Neo Destiny.
It is honestly absurd that the format was largely carried by poor translations with no oversight or errata. WotC at that time absolutely did not care about Pokemon TCG one bit
Just started the video and I'm predicting Slowking
Called it!
Love to see it :p
@@ringss_did mistranslations already give it away
@@asian8161 Yeah, it's like the most famous mistranslated pokemon card ever
I knew about Slowking mistranslation, but did not know that Unown one! Thanks for the video! 🙏🏻
Appreciate your support 🙏
5:06 Who would've thought the scariest thing to ever grace the TCG would be a tiny pink thing that just screams all day
Haha what a way of putting it 😂😭

Thats no fun 😭
I used Koga's Ninja Trick to deal with these absurd attackers, sending fossils to negate attacks lol
Thank you for re-enforcing my love for Chansey ❤
Chansey was wrecking the game 💪
I'm imagining a chansey wearing a suit of armor and absolutely face-tanking everything.
Not far from the truth! Especially when it was tanking do the waves 😂
The art on that Dark Gengar is so goofy 😂
Haha it is a funny one 😂
Love the video, the history of my favoriye tcg is trully facinating
Ayo glad to hear it :)

I see your point but Slowking won 2/3 divisions 🤣 but chansey and Donphan definitely paint a picture of a meta more endemic of rogues popping up :p

Aww i can see why they thought it should be banned for sure 😭 glad u got back to events last year tho!

just watched the title of the video change while watching lmao
the tab name still says "How Translation Errors Crowned a Pokemon Champion."
A/B testing :)
