I spent almost a full month in Japan back in March and Nara was probably my favourite day of the trip. You definitely need to explore it better if you have a chance!
Thanks very much for this Paddy and Miss P. Really enjoyed the over view and laid back way you put this all together. Great to see you travel together.
Abroad in Japan always warns for the summer months for visiting Japan and looking at this I believe him. I have been both times in April and that was perfect.
we visited Kyoto on the third day after Japan opened up the borders after covid (we landed in Tokyo the same day it opened) and it was absolutely incredible. WE basically got to experience Kyoto, Nara and Osaka with just the locals. the 'tourist spots' were virtually empty. I'm convinced I'll never go back to those cities because the crowds will ruin it for me. It was absolutely incredible
Great video again Paddy! Really liking Miss P in the videos lately! Disappointed to hear how busy Osaka and Nara was for you when you were there! We went in late February/early March and found Osaka much more tame (not as much as Tokyo) and Nara was basically empty early in the morning. So yes, timing was a little off but still glad you liked it.
Hi Paddy and miss P.👋 Japan is grand, it has always fascinated me, it has the best food - sashimi is my fav. among other things - and a mystical ancient culture. Tanks for taking us with you on your trip, i'm excited, have fun and be safe! 🎉❤️👍
0:15 Please act respectfully at religious sites. The torii (red gate) represents the path leading to the sacred area of the gods and is a donation from believers. Before passing through the torii, remove your hat and bow. Do not walk in the center, as it is reserved for the gods, and avoid running or behaving disrespectfully.
It's not a huge deal, but seeing him slap the torii gate did make me wince a bit. It's kind of like slapping a cross or some other religious symbol/relic, which is obviously frowned upon.
Japan looks amazing Paddy, loved the red 'gates' and the amazing sunset. Great to see you and Miss P having a wonderful time (apart from the Kobe beef). 😬
Hi Paddy, i was in Japan in January earlier this year, Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. So your video brought back great memories. Obviously it was a bit cooler then, but a day in Nara from Osaka was one of the highlights of my trip. So definitely go back, see the main temple and just wander around this lovely town. But like Kyoto it’s popular so you won’t escape the crowds 🤷
Hi Paddy Japan is bucket list trip and this video amazingly informative , I get great pleasure and enjoyment from all you put out on TH-cam but these Japan trip one were very personable thank you for allowing us to join you and miss Pea Gary and Mon♥
Well that was an interesting adventure. But you to are so good together. I always enjoy your videos. Sorry you got the flu. That sucks. But glad you still had a good time. Sucks about the Kobe beef though. Take care mate😎
Oh wow I think you missed the best parts of Nara if you just stopped at the first open park area - there's a massive forest/park with temples/shrines (a massive Buddha one too), and some of the forest area is less packed with tourists but still has loads of deer around. Granted you said it was hot so you probably didn't want to trek much, but there is so much more to see beyond the first park area.
What a jam packed adventure! Felt rushed as usually that is a 2-4 week itinerary. Didn't see Arashiyama in Kyoto. Missed out on the more serene and quieter side of Nara Park in the mountain side and forest, with relatively fewer people if you had walked in a bit further. Kinda ironic how proud you were when you visited Fushimi Inari, how you described the Instagramers who turn around after visiting the entrance to get their snaps in lol. How poetic! But if you weren't feeling it, don't sweat it. There's always next time.
always wanted to go to Japan , yours and miss p's trip has been a eye opening experience, not sure if I will ever get there but really enjoyed your trip.👍
Just came back from my 4th trip to Japan, one of my favourite countries to visit. If you do want somewhere a bit quieter, you probably either want to go further South to Kyushu or go North from Tokyo to Tohoku. I love Kyoto and Nara, but they are two of the most popular destinations in Japan, particularly with domestic tourists, the main shrine in Nara is lovely though and a bit further out so quieter than the main park.
The Tori gates were beautiful, I think every previous video I have seen has only shown the beginning. When I finally make it, I will have to remember to push on till the end, it's worth it.
Very relaxing attitude you had in these 3 videos. Maybe traveling with Miss P give you a bit less stress. Great videos. Not that previous videos has been bad.
My wife is born and raised in osaka. She said kobe beef is oily too and would prefer australian beef any day. For avoiding crowds i recommend you go to the lesser known temples. If you're a history buff and or interested in samurai stuff like me, there are some temples that have recycled floor boards from 400 year old castles where samuari battled and lost their lives. Their bloody hand prints and foot prints are perfectly preserved and you can see them on the ceilings of these lesser known small temples. There are a few videos on youtube about them
Good Morning. That is a scary speed. How did it feel.?. Love seeing you both. What an adventure. Well done to you both for making it to the top. Wow, lots of people. Great advice seeing areas. As you drank your beer that cheeky bloke giving a wink on camera. LOL. Tastes even better after 3/4 beers. You do make me smile and crack me up. Shame about the food. Especially being that it was so expensive. Sorry, to hear you got the flu, I hope you are fully recovered now. Happy Sunday to you both.
Recording everything with a selfie stick and talking about getting away from the Instagrammers? Is there a big difference/rivalry between TH-camrs and grammers?
I was lucky to be in Kyoto during cherry blossom season. Walking to the top of the Torii Gates and took about 1,000 pictures. Didn’t the golden temple, the bamboo forest and some geisha shots on the streets of Kyoto. One of my most loved cities in Japan…
17:48 I'd like to see your reaction to the amount of people when you decide to go to China. I'll be in Japan in 2 weeks with my Thai girlfriend for the first time. These videos couldn't have come at a better time!
I always grab sushi to go right before I get on the train. Yum. In Osaka, we went to "Rockstar" animal cafe which was pretty interesting, but that area around Nipponbashi is where I plan to go to when we go back to Japan. We walked through it and there were all these amazing restaurants to explore and also a market.
Im surprised you were surprised by the tourist trap of Nara. I've never been to Japan and even I know its crazy there! I feel sorry for the deers, I hope the authorities get it under control.
Honestly, no one should trust this video as a decent guide to either Kyoto or Nara, given that they seem to be treated as only worth a day side trip each from Osaka, rather than the cultural capitals of Japan. The research before going to Nara must have been astoundingly shallow in particular if you dont know where the deer will be, and you don't make it to the astounding Todai-ji temple complex. Also, the running jump to touch a Tori gate was exactly the sort of cringe cultural disrespect that can give foreigners a bad reputation. It also has been very weird to watch someone who likes Bangkok but then whines about Tokyo being a bit too crowded and busy for him! The whole series of video had an undertone of what older Australians might call a "whining Pommy" (Pommy being old slang for Englishman) vibe... " It's nice here, but not that nice".
@paddydoyle love your videos. listen, not to be 'that guy' but just in case you care, the correct pronunciation of "Kyoto" in English is “kee-oh-toh”. In Japanese, it is pronounced as “kyo-toh”, rather than kaiyoto.

Just out of interest how many people did you get to book the moonstone in koh Sam?… I’d say not many considering your audience are largely backpackers, or digital nomads and aspiring unqualified teachers who may or may not be slightly strange and unsafe to be around children!😮😮😮 it prob cost the poor owner so much to clean after you and pals, especially leaving smelly pizza in bedroom, common
