right, it was actually an inside joke in our shop because I didn't expect the video to become so popular. I actually didn't put the choke on fully the first time around.
The Toro belts are falling off, because the plastic belt guards are both missing. If the Koehler engine had problems, that’s not an issue with Toro. That’s Koehler’s problem,
Check leakdown to check rings, valves, and head gasket. Change the oil. Tune the engine. Replace the blade. Replace the carburetor. Adjust the valves. Check the belts. Check the spindles.
Toro sounds exactly like the one I used to cut our grass in the 70s! Takes me back. (I was never cool enough to get any girls to hang around while I did, though, so good job!)
5w 30 is thicker than 10w 30 so in theory thicker oil is slowing down the engine cranking speed but that isn’t what happened there most likely the fuel filters or pumps were not working right because they were not getting gas
.... The tractors aren't cutting the grass the blades are it'll come down to the condition in sharpness of the blades and what kind of blades also the engine and how fast they spin and how much torque but mainly the blades
True kind of. The width of the deck has to do with it and wether it mulches or not. The toro had a wider deck so it scalped and it mulched so the grass was not dispersed as well. But the blades have a lot to do with it.
I’ve parted out both tractors that you have. The frame of the Toro is much better than the Sabre tractor. The Toro probably has a Tuff Torq K61 hydrostatic transaxle. I’m not sure which transaxle is in the Sabre. I have had several of the 260 series tractors. They turn really tight but they are not the top of the line tractors Toro built. Those are the 5xi series. I have three of them: 520xi, 522xi and a 520Lxi parts tractor which I plan on installing a Vanguard engine in. The 260 series tractors turn sharper but the darn plastic hoods are easy to crack and break. The safety interlock switches sometimes fail. In the 5xi series tractors the Kohler engines tend to run hot, but the tractor itself is built like a tank. My favorite size deck is the best 52” as I have three of them for the 5xi. After parting out my 266-H I kept the 260 series 52” deck because it shares some of the same spindles as the 5xi 52” deck. I since bought two more 260 series 52” decks at $75 & $50 just to have extra spindles. The transaxle in a 5xi tractor is much heavier than one in a 260 series.
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 ok. I'm looking for a 269-H, I was never interested in those older Toro until I saw yours. I fell in love with it and I want one
I got a old Murray and a green craftsman lt1000 both were made in 2001 and I’m gonna do a video comparison between the 2 it fair cause they both the same year and I had 2 completely rebuild em both neither 1 run and 1 way it ain’t fair is cause the Murray has been repowered once it originally had a Briggs n Stratton 12hp single cylinder flathead engine and the piston was wore out it poured smoke horribly so I repowered it with a Briggs n Stratton 14.5 single cylinder over head value engine
That Toro is a nice tractor. But that mower deck tho being a mulcher kind of stinks. You seem to like mowers....buy an Exmark Zero Turn mower. Very nice. Fun to use. Make sure....the pumps and wheel motors are good in it. There are 2 wheel motors and 2 pumps. Right and left. Your enjoy it.
Le Chandler they are not Wheel Horse was bought by toro in 1989 or 1990 but until about 1995 they were the exact same as the actual wheel horse built models but then they came out with that series and that was completely toro designed
The Deere wasn’t a knock off MTD manufactured it for Deere because it was meant to be cheap to compete with cheap big box store brands if you get what I am saying. MTD AND Deere made it. Sabre’s are meant to be cheap to compete with Murray’s and poulan pros
You should save it because that was your most popular vid by a lot so maybe you could find another mower to save! It would get some views because many people in quarantine have been watching these videos so I’d suggest doing a similar one
Some people today don’t realize how easy it is today. People today putting deck lifts and powersteering all of these snowflakes can’t lift the deck up by hand or turn the wheel without help. Snowflakes
It's clear that you don't know that you are doing. A former outdoor power equip tech of 15+ years First that's not a real J.D. pvt label for J.D. By the simplicity, Mahindra, real John deer hd tractors and all Zero turn brands of riders. But still i would take the toro hands down over fake jd! ( Btw) Once the belt rolls off more than two times you have a damaged belt. The inner cords are rolled. Check the deck out for bent pulleys, idler arm/s, and miss alignment. It's telling you have a problem and take to a real repair shop and get it fix'd right! please!
Yeah the deck has a bent pulley. And the hard starting was a joke in our shop, I was joking about how poorly maintained these mowers were because I didn't think this video would become so popular. I just didn't pull the choke.
It is but it doesn’t look like it. The Sabre series was a branch off of John Deere and Sabre’s were built cheap so they could compete with cheaper mowers at brick and mortar stores. They were made so Deere could get the sales in the cheap categories like Murray and simplicity
nah it was running on both. those kohlers just have a low growl. it would have way less power and be slow to rev up if it was on just one. thanks for watching
i have a deere with the same motor as the wheelhorse and it sounded just like it because the exhaust gaskets were burned off... yours seems like it has bad gaskets because kohlers should not sound like a straight pipe.. they are not the quietest motor but that seems like its alot louder than what it should be so i would check those in the spring... just be careful with the bolts in the engine because they are known to rust
I agree I have a simplicity that’s a 93 with same Koehler engine and it was very loud sounded like it had no exhaust and I had to replace something can’t remember off the top of my head
Them not starting has nothing to with the oil. They are not getting gas.
right, it was actually an inside joke in our shop because I didn't expect the video to become so popular. I actually didn't put the choke on fully the first time around.
Jerome Cook he needs to choke them
The belt is jumping off the Toro because the keeper is missing.
The keeper might be missing but the position of the belt through the pulleys is incorrect
The Toro belts are falling off, because the plastic belt guards are both missing. If the Koehler engine had problems, that’s not an issue with Toro. That’s Koehler’s problem,

That would be nice :D
That would be tons of fun

Wow, thanks for all the info!
why would 5- 30 oil cause harder starting in 70 degree weather?
Your pullie either has a bad baring, and the belt is stretch out and about to break that is why you could not cut the grass properly with your Toro.
Would you be willing to sell this toro?
Already sold it sorry
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 ok. I'm looking for a 269-H, I was never interested in those older Toro until I saw yours. I fell in love with it and I want one
10 times out of 9, when the belt jumps the pully like that, one of pullies is miss alined
you are correct, one of the tensioner pulleys was miss aligned

You should have done tug of war
that is a good idea
toro wouldve pulled no problem more heavy duty
You should take there decks off next time and see what can do best off road and do a tug of war like that
brian sampson true but it also depends on if he upgraded the mower because if he did it may change the results
Trevor Bardle yes i agree
I want the wheelhorse I have one too
The belt jumping all is not because of a keeper is because the pattern that the belt is running is incorrect
Id rather buy the one that wins the 20 year test
I'd buy a Deere because "nothin runs like a deere" and " nothin breaks down like a Toro"
that's pretty true with these two. The deere is much more reliable
Yeah I'd rather buy the more reliable one.

I have a 1990 mountfield mirage. 28 years old and runs decent. Burns too much oil for my liking but hell, i got 1000 hours out of it so far
Hey if you got that many hours, that's great! All engines are gonna burn oil eventually lol
A Rural Vermonter - Qqjmcb 182 its a little push mower too and the aluminium deck isnt even corroded yet
They didn't start because you didn't use the choke
i know, it was a joke in our shop to joke about how badly they rebuilt the machines.

That is true
No, they were actually made by John Deere. Mine has the tag that says John Deere, Moline Illinois.
