- Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar is the former Director of Interpretation in the Lok Sabha and former Lecturer in the Department of Hindi at Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi. She has authored several books including Niravadhi Bhuvaneshwar (2023), Nayi Kavita me Prem Sambandh (1989) and Hindi Sahitya: Vedna ke Naye Aayaam (1977). In collaboration with the India International Centre, WISCOMP organized a book launch and discussion on Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar’s Niravadhi Bhuvaneshwar. The book is a collection of her essays based on extensive research spanning over two decades on Bhuvaneshwar Prasad’s literary works. Bhuvaneshwar Prasad, the First Absurdist Playwright of Modern Hindi Literature, challenged the mainstream representation of women in Hindi literature. His ‘progressive’ writings on familial relations, women’s agency and desire are now regarded as the earliest clarion call for Feminism in Hindi Literature. An eminent panel of speakers shared their perspectives on the book and Bhuvaneshwar Prasad’s literary significance.
