Lol, I wish I was at least half as happy as you are, Sarah. Great tutorial 👌🏻 will definitely give it a try on my recorder and, why not, also on my flute ✌🏻
This is so amazing! I started playing the recorder recently mainly because i would love to play some medieval tunes, but you are showing me so many new ways and styles that i have never heard of. I have to learn this!* *Someday when im good enough :)
Llibre vermell de Montserrat, Red book from Montserrat, in Catalan language (Montserrat is a middle age Monastery in a sacred mountain) is a musical heritage very considered by Catalan nation. Thanks
I had tried this with sketchy results, but your video is great help. The effect is beautiful if one gets it right, you have given me incentive to try again, harder!
Fantastic video Sarah! I can't wait to practice this technique! The sound reminds me of the buzzing sound I often hear inside my ears when playing recorders with others.
Time to play age of empires or medieval 2! 🏰 My gosh this is so amazing! Album sold! ☺️🤗 Omgosh! I didn’t know I could get a signed copy! I’m fan girling pretty hard rn. Musicians like you is what inspires me and shows me how amazing music can be! Time to practice on my recorder now 😁
Oh my! I was so intrigued, I downloaded the music to play with one day, but had a few minutes, so put it on the stand. This is so much fun even to try! I am not a singer, but . . . the recorder helps to get the notes, along with a tuner. I tried playing along with the notes and a bit of the drone idea (hard to stay on one note!). There were some very cool sounding moments, and afterward, I played part of another piece I am practicing and my playing was better! The voice/instrument combo seems to encourage good breathwork. Thanks for the breath marks - I do need them. I'm really looking forward to trying more of this. What a lovely piece of music.
Oh wow I loved this. And people dare to say the recorder is child's play pfft, If there is more like this on your album it's on my Christmas list. Btw the tone of your tenor is beautiful.
That sounded wonderfull! It made it so relaxing and meditative. Maybe I'll try it some day. I use to experiment with singing and playing at the same time when I was young but of course I don't think it was as beautiful as this.
I was so hoping you’d do a tutorial on this technique! I just ordered the sheet music and your CD (download). I can’t wait to learn all the fingerings so I can play - and eventually sing/play this gorgeous music. And, of course, I will be saving up for a Adri Dream tenor (and soprano) as well. I love the sound of the Renaissance recorders.
I had my second recorder lesson last week so learned all the lower register C major fingerings. I sat down last night and played through this for the first time. So Much Fun!! But - Boy! I have a lot of work ahead of me, especially since each of the two lowest notes on my tenor sound almost like two notes are playing - I'm sure I'm not covering the holes well enough yet. And I need to practice breath control for sure. But on the plus side, my roommate told me I sounded beautiful (even with all the mistakes). I can't wait to play it better. And it will be a long while before I can sing and play at the same time, but it is beautiful just playing the tenor line. Thank you for this beautiful arrangement!
It would be absolutely amazing if you could post a video teaching us to how to play the musical piece: Kojo no Tsuki ( Composer: Rentaro Taki) It would be great if you do so.... and keep enchanting us with this amazing instrument!!!!!!
Whoops, here is some girl bringing a medieval manuscript to life, somehow tuning in to the spirit of the times. Such a nice rich sound from just one instrument.
Dear Sarah, I did the same thing with my organ and cornet. That is also playing with my breath and fingers (and feet of course) simultaneously. I call that "playing corgel". It's not the same as playing recorder and singing together, but it has interfaces clearly. It cost me a lot of practice also. Here you have an example of it: th-cam.com/video/1Matehr7R21/w-d-xo.html. I have also tried to instruct brass players/organists how to do that, but most of them give up after some effort. I hope you have more success with your students.
Thanx so much for this. I already bought the sheets. Its great. My singing with the tenor recorder is not that good sounding because I'm a guy with a bass voice range. Any Ways to cope with it?
Good question! I would pitch it in the highest octave that's comfortable for your voice. It can help to blow lots of air (to give a strong recorder sound) and make a mellow, softer tone with your voice in order to create a good balance. If you have a bass recorder, you can also play it on that with the same fingerings, then it all sounds a fifth lower!
blue penguin Far too expensive for me, especially when I seem to favour the most expensive woods. I’ve yet to find a place that sells them in my country, so even if I find a “cheap” one it would cost me twice as much in import charges alone😭 Basic plastic tenors are ridiculously expensive here so anything more fancy than that burns quite the hole in your wallet. If I ever win the lottery I shall buy one then😂
You can try the Adri's Dream tenors by Mollenhauer - much cheaper than a handmade renaissance one, and they make a nice approach to the wide, open sound. I recommend!
Hi Sarah... do you practice (memorise) all scales in every key so you can transpose and change key at will? Coming from a guitar background this seems waaaaaay more difficult on the recorder!
Hey Sarah I just heard this on Spotify and heads up, either there is something wrong with my Spotify or Spotify is genuinely attributing your Constellations album to some other Sarah Jefferey (like some teenage pop artist). Also, I can't find you and Spotify to follow you...
Same here. Any luck or insights so far? For me, the result varies with singing pitch (d works OK'ish on a tenor, but higher notes don't) and flute (low d tin whistle works better than recorder, but I can't overblow when the singing).
@@eickler I've found if I sort of - and I hope I can explain this clearly enough! - have about a third of my mouth not around the fipple of the recorder (so I put the recorder to my mouth, but leave a small gap), then that seems to stop the buzzing. Also, doing it on the right instrument! I was doing it on my alto, but this piece goes up to a high G in the voice part, and i just can't sing that high. So i played it on the tenor and it sounded muuchh better, because it fit way better with my natural voice range.
Aha! When I first tried it, I was also wondering if Sarah blows a part of the air past the recorder, because the mouth piece is different! Thanks for sharing! Does it work for you for the higher notes when you need to overblow?
What a beautiful powerful piece never
heard it before the harmonics are top
notch
Team recorder rocks.
😍 you guys rock too! Let me know if you’re every in Amsterdam 😊
*Team recorder baroques ;)
So far I've been able to love only one contemporary music recorder technique and it's THIS! Bravo! I'm in awe and trasported back in time!
This is what we call:
Ridiculously cool.
Who would thumbs down this?? Absolutely beautiful! 🎼💪🏻🎼
This is so beautiful! When the singing comes in, I was like, wow, beautiful.
I'm delighted to learn "jewel case", can't believe I've been using the boring term "plastic/ cd case" all my life, go Team Thesaurus!
Your singing voice is so splendid in this, I luv listening again and again!
ah thank you 😘

that´s the first time I listen to recorder and voice in this style. That was great! I´ll definetly add this to my recorder practice!
A very, very ,very interesting video. Thank you. 🙏

I would pay to hear this live in a church. Imagine the resounding pedal note.

Your tenor sounds very much like a Native American style flute. Very nice airy tonality.

I know an organist in Montreal playing the trumpet with the organ,
It sounds magistral, and very powerful.
Very interesting take. This is the sort of thing that turns out really well or really badly. In your case the former of course.
where can i buy you cd.. I love the way you play recorder... and you are also beautiful..

@@Team_Recorder thanks so much. Im actualy getting my first bass recorder for my birthday in two weeks. Super excited!!!
What was that super cool recorder you were playing in the beginning? It's not your Ganassi tenor. What is it????
This is so awesome, but also really makes me want to buy a renaissance tenor, which if there ever was something I couldn’t afford, it would be that😭😂
Are they too expensive?

@@Team_Recorder It's fixed now
You're very pretty don't let Frank tell you otherwise
12:47 Whoa
Does anyone know what type of recorder this is?
Whenever I do this, the recorder ends up sounding really buzzy - does anyone know why?

Can this be done on Alto Recorder?
Yes! The sheet music is available for alto too 💪🏼
just imagine this in a cathedral acoustic....
Ohh I played it the other day in the Pieterskerk in Utrecht and it was 😍😍😍😍
