Prof Vaknin, its been 3 weeks since I found your videos & my life will never be the same again. I have been devouring your videos & will watch every one.
I am in awe, your knowledge is encyclopedic, your humour is brilliant & your hair.. 😍
On a serious note. I was diagnosed with EUPD (BPD) 2 years ago - the psychiatrist noted it is difficult for professionals to decide between BPD & CPTSD.
Your videos have confirmed without doubt BPD is correct.
It's frightening & fascinating hearing you describe me & my world so accurately. I want to address the BPD because I have young children & I dont want them to experience life/relationships as I have (yes I can be a Dead Mother) throughout my entire life.
I watched your video on the Book "Pure" yesterday & it took me back 33 years to my own similar experiences.
Theres so much I want to say but your time is precious so I will stick to two questions/requests.
1 - Please consider doing a video which informs self aware sometimes "Dead Mothers" who desperately want to do things differently to protect their children, what we can focus on/do in a practical sense. I've devoured your videos & have watched 5+ a day for 3 weeks so I have researched your work before asking this.
2 - I am about to start Schema Therapy (Group x 1 weekly + 1:1 every fortnight for 18 months) You comment that you like Schema Therapy, please consider making a video (a long one please!) on using this modality to treat BPD. I would really appreciate some hope that things will improve. I'm all in 110% & your thoughts on why this Therapy is efficacious would be encouraging.
Thank you from the bottom of my BPD heart (you know I'm crying dont you?!) for sharing your work (for free) so that people like me can learn about ourselves & know that we are seen and that I'm not the only person in the world dealing with these issues.

@@samvaknin Thank you for the reply. I will search again.
I'm currently working through BPD Playlist which is a goldmine of information. I've enjoyed 4 hours of CPTSD or BPD compilation video today.

You have grit, resilience and courage. Sending love to you and I have absolute faith that you will do it.

@@LiveAGoodLife-Athena thank you so much for your kindness & encouraging words.
I left home just after my 15th birthday (30+ years ago) to escape my crazy and DA family. I moved 100s of miles away, lied about my age & got a BF who's family took me in (I have been a cuckoo egg all of my life). I still have scars from teenage cutting but worse is the shame & guilt I still carry due to my behaviour in my teenage years & thereafter.
All of my life I've known there is something very wrong (with me), I almost pass out when stressed, loose the ability to speak properly & I can emotionally explode followed by an implosion that makes me question whether the world would be better without me.. The list of my BPD "symptoms" is long however until 2 years ago I was only ever treated for depression, anxiety & a few years for bulimia nervosa.
Prof. Vankin has shown me that the "switch" that I clearly feel when my crying & feeling of being a victim of whatever abuse or problem I'm experiencing stops & I become focused, determined, emotionless able to think & goal orientated to get myself out of the sh@t, is my psychopathic part. I want to make friends with this part of me because Dr Vaknin has shown me that when I experience engulfment (from the relationship with my children 💔😭) it is triggered & I become the Dead Mother. I now realise I experience approach/avoidance & BPD interpersonal issues in my relationship with my children which is why I am desperate for support.
I don't know who I am & I understand now I have no sense of "identity". I realise I have been a "shape shifter" since a very early age which I needed to do to survive.
I know the "real" me loves nature, music & learning so I guess that's a start!
I am sharing this information to demonstrate how much impact Prof. Vaknin videos have had in just 3 weeks compared to years of generic counselling. Also because I can be honest here but also because I agree with Prof. Vaknin that BPD should be thought of as a Trauma response instead of a personality disorder (much less stigmatizing & accurate) which I believe would encourage people to come out of the shadows and seek the support they & importantly their children need.

@@V-sc9gm I totally agree - I’ve done a lot of therapy but Prof. Vaknin’s videos have been far more helpful.
I found a good therapist recently but it took A LOT of shopping around. Unfortunately there are a lot of unhealed and incompetent therapists who can end up re-traumatising their clients with their own unresolved stuff. Tragic.
It sounds like you’re developing good insight and you’re intelligent - coupled with determination, and the clear resilience you have, you will do this.
It’s fantastic that you’re understanding who your true self is - a lover of nature, music and learning - all great stuff to begin to curate your life, lifestyle and environment. Get engaged with those things.
For me, identifying people who just aren’t “safe”, who don’t have the capacity to see & hear others, who are emotionally unavailable, and who are hyper focussed on themselves and only take their own pain/feelings/experiences seriously, who blame others for “everything”, who are dismissive and invalidating, and downright nasty (even abusive) if you refuse to meet their capricious needs, has been extremely useful and freeing for me.
I’ve distanced myself and set boundaries with them in order to have more peace and balance in my life, and more energy to meet my own needs. I’m also far less anxious and self-doubting since doing so.
Just note that when you start setting boundaries, some people will react strongly - some very strongly - trying to guilt you, manipulate you and even shame/bully you, into being who THEY want you to be to serve them.
They will resist but believe in yourself and push on through. Some people will respond with respect and adapt to your boundaries. Notice who does and doesn’t.
It’s time to create a more peaceful life for yourself - and far better to be alone than in misaligned company.
Do keep addressing your trauma, become friends with your true self, accept all aspects of yourself with shadow work and please spend time watching Prof. Vaknin’s Healing playlist, and Nothingness playlist.
Fingers crossed for the schema therapy!
If you decide to do more individual therapy, shop around and arrange many introductory/exploratory sessions with various therapists to find the right fit and to ensure you feel safe and heard - and to be sure they’re not stuck in the “superior hero/healer/all-knowing” mindset.
Some therapists are highly arrogant and far more interested in their own needs than their clients. As Prof. Vaknin says, there must be far more regulation in the therapeutic industry.
Reparenting ourselves and accepting all parts of ourselves is so helpful…plus stopping giving weight on what other people think of us is very powerful. Don’t let others define you. People will judge, misunderstand and project on us constantly. Be discerning about who you trust and give your energy/attention/time to. Who we surround ourselves with affects us hugely.
      Time to protect yourself.
I admire your evident passion and willingness to address your difficulties for your children, and I wish you the very best with your journey. You have already done so much more than many others. You want to break the cycle and be healthier for your children and that self-awareness is a very beautiful and commendable thing ❤️

Oh so interesting! The link to Oxytocin does make sense, since it is the "Love" hormone in the body. And Love really is the cure for all things, but it is often difficult to "administer" it safely and effectively, because of the extreme dissociation.

If I treat my bpd with DBT will my narcissistic antisocial personality get worst ? I'm scared going full on psycho, although being goal oriented sounds nicer than swinging aimlessly in the dark abyss of emotion disregulation

EMDR works on memory reconsolidation. This also restructures the brain. This is why it's so helpful for trauma. I have used it on people with Dissociative Identity Disorder to help them reconnect with lost parts of themselves and process trauma. It would be interesting to see if it would work with cluster b disorders.

    • @samvaknin
      @samvaknin  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It works in some cluster B situations. It is a trauma therapy and cluster B are post-traumatic conditions.

@@samvakninwill EMDR work with a young adult currently going through a “histrionic collapse”? I suffered from CPTSD having been raised by a narcissistic mother. I recently had a long course of EMDR, and it has been life changing. Unfortunately for my son, it has come too late, and the damage has been done. I’m really hoping that it could be a solution for him. He tried it but gave up after 6 sessions. I believe because of his histrionic traits he wasn’t able to really go into himself to access the real trauma memories. He says that I inflicted massive trauma on him, but when asked to explain what it was, he states things like having his phone taken away (incidentally, we provided him with a basic phone in the interim), or the monitoring of his social media accounts. He is currently abusing drugs, has failed his year at university, and is having a complete collapse (psychotic episodes). We’re really at a loss as to what to do. He refuses to let us talk to his doctor or therapist. Because he can pull it together when he needs to, he has managed to convince them that he has ADHD and anxiety. He is being prescribed more and more stimulants are drinking excessive caffeine. He then takes Xanax to come down. We are at a loss as to what to do. I fear that he will overdose or become so psychotic that it becomes permanent.
