    Watching this in 2019 because I’m looking to buy a 2013 5.0 R -Spec with 33,000 miles on it to replace my old DD. It’s listed for only $19,000 and still has 4 years and 77,000 miles left on the original manufacturer warranty.... tempting

    Interestingly, Mercedes reliability is really low, and (from several reviews) the Genesis is very reliable.

    • @brianrocha3803

      my Mercedes gl350 has been an absolute nightmare. more problems than every vehicle I have ever owned combined, x2! bought it for the diesel and good fuel economy but fuel economy sucks! after over $5000 in warranty repairs in the first couple months of owning it they now say it needs another $14,000 in repairs. I bought this thing with 69,000 miles on it because it had a full service history from ! Mercedes since it was new. now with 90,000 it decided it wanted to almost killed my family when the air suspension started acting up causing the left front wheel to spin when taking off and locking up when stopping. add that the the famous oil cooler leak that costs $3,000 to replace a $15 part along with new shocks, motor mounts, air suspension control valve block, ad blue tanks heater ($1,500 just for the part) sway bar links, two front wheel bearings, transmission shifts issues, second row seatbelt that has to be unbolted to get the second row seat to come back up, column module, steering angle sensor, glow plug control module, glow plugs, power lift gate that only closes when it wants to, turbo oil cooler seal leak, and I'm sure a few others I have forgotten to list. for God's sake, don't get a Benz. my Land Rover LR3, which was supposed to have bad reliability, only gave me 2 issues, alternator, and air suspension compressor because the air dryer went bad. oh, and a hub assembly that started making noise, and that was after 100,000 miles. I'm looking to trade that God awful pos for a 2013 Genesis that has only 6,900 miles on it for $25k.and tat 100,000 mile warranty gives my wife peace of mind. biggest regret I have was trading my 2013 Passat TDI SEL premium for this abomination.

    This car has had my head turning, for the past year and always thought damn this is a really nice car. In my head I thought this car would cost around $70k, anyways I just found out through this video that it's a Hyundai and it cost less then $48k. I would definitely buy this car if I had the money .

  • @JackKangaroo1
    @JackKangaroo1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This fixation on ever increased horsepower is ridiculous. I own a 2009 Genesis with the 4.6 liter V8. The car is a rocket! It's got 375 hp and can blow away almost anything on the road. And remember, it's not a sport car, it's designed as a full sized luxury car. It did not need a bigger engine and more power under the hood.

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JackKangaroo1 I actually test drove the 2011 4.6L V8 version and my main complain driving wise (I won't count that the 2011 tech pack is not the same as the 2012 tech pack so it was missing some features I expected) was the massive delay between when you floor it and when the power kicks in. Do you get that in your car or could it have been an issue with just this one I tried? I even tried manually putting it in second gear and flooring it, but it would do almost nothing for 2 seconds then finally give me some power. It felt too much like old turbo lag despite being a n/a v8. I'm looking to buy a 2012 V6 but have not driven one yet. I'm hoping with the new transmission, engine and programming, it won't have that lag.

    • @OPHIOHANNAH
      @OPHIOHANNAH 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      iSOBigD There is a slight lag when I first hit the gas but it's one second or less, not anything I would define as "massive," and it does feel sort of like a turbo lag. But the car is still quick off the line and the high end excelleration is where it really shines. I can go from 60 mph to 90 mph in the blink of an eye. In fact, the biggest problem I have is keeping the speed down below 80 or 90. The car is like a race horse, it just wants to run fast, so I resort to using cruise control most of the time.

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JACK KANGAROO Hey, thanks for the reply. I actually purchased a 2012 V6 in the mean time and I love it. It gets to 2000rpm around 120kmph and the fuel economy was 6l per 100km (47 MPG) on a drive from Montreal to Niagara Falls and back so I'm super impressed with highway economy considering the really good acceleration. I definitely felt that the 2011 V8 (4.6L) was more laggy than my V6 with the newer transmission and engine. It could have been just that one car though, who knows... When I use Manual shifting in mine, it's great in any gear. The closest car in terms of performance feel and sound is the V8 Camaro SS I rented once so it's really nice to drive, plus it has the great interior, sound system and quiet ride. Definitely a really nice car, especially for the price, and I know what you mean about the cruise control, I use it a lot too cause you don't feel how fast you're going sometimes, it's just smooth and quiet.

    • @RSX250
      @RSX250 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JackKangaroo1 However please keep in mind the vehicles the Genesis is trying to compete with (Mercedes E63 and BMW M5 both have over 500hp) The Genesis did need the HP increase. For the money the Genesis is alot of car. Id say this car is a win for Hyundai.

    • @iSOBigD
      @iSOBigD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      RSX250 I'm not sure who said the Genesis is competing with $100k sports sedans, but it's not. On price, it's competing with the C class, 3 series and A4. On paper it's competing with the E class, A6 and 5 series but they're tens of thousands of dollars more expensive with similar materials and features (optional on those brands) and weaker engines.

    • @JackKangaroo1
      @JackKangaroo1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've had that experience many times with my '09 Genesis. The 4.6 liter engine under the hood blows away 5 series Beemers and E-class Benz without even breaking a sweat. They couldn't catch me if they tried!

    • @OPHIOHANNAH
      @OPHIOHANNAH 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** LOL I do that with my 4.6 Genesis also. As you probably know, the Equus is mechanically the same car as the Genesis. I saw one review on the Equus in which the reviewer began by saying, "Equus means horse and the logo is a pair of wings, so you could say that Hyundai is flipping the bird at the horses ass who would test drive this car and then still pay forty thousand dollars more for an S-class Mercedes."

      @karpetcm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Norm Cutter i like the genises dont get me wrong but you gotta be more specific as to what merc's your blowing away. Yes E320 or E350 for sure which is 90+% of E CLass cars but a E550, i doubt. I respect all cars since i owned all types and worked at dealers were ive had the pleasure of driving many different kinds of cars.

    I have a 2012 5.0 rspec, i removed the intake flap and added a k&n air filter. The thing growls and it feels like it gained a extra 10 hp. I almost dont ever lose but cars like a ctsv and s63 amg pull on me once we hit around 80-90mph

    The grille looks aftermarket and cheap. They need a Hyundai emblem in the center, make the horizontal bars smaller, & make it black chrome to match the headlight inserts. It's a pretty good package of Lexus LS tailpipes, Infinity M tail lamps, and Infinity instrument font design bundling.

    There was an R Spec at the dealership near my house a few months ago, same color as this one. Not a bad car, but the standard model looks better than this in my opinion. My one gripe with the R Spec is the R Spec badge on the back looks and feels exceptionally cheap. It is not metal or chrome, it is a black rubber rectangle with raised lettering.
    I was sold on the Hyundai Genesis being the best deal on the market for this type of car until the new Chrysler 300 came along.

    I'm liking this but it sounds like Hyundai is still being sloppy and too conservative with their torque management. I've been in various late model automatic Hyundais and the torque nannying is beyond reproach... I know we want to keep warranty claims down but it's a little ridiculous. Anyways.. 106 is a decent but not stellar trap speed for a car like this.

    Yea, and why have a radio when you can just sing a song yourself. Why have air conditioning, just open the window. Why have seatbelts - just drive under 5 mph and be safe without them. Why have more than 100hp when that much is all is needed for an *average* car. Oh wait, maybe because this isn't supposed to be an average car, it's supposed to better ?

    My comment was general. So much new tech, yet statistically they haven't contributed to a major drop in accidents. Personally, I think too much tech creates lazy drivers. I know ppl who can't seem to park without tech assistance, lol. Its fine to have it, but just don't be too dependent on the tech. For example, what happens when the blind spot warning light goes out and someone relies on it to tell them if its safe to switch lanes? Like I said, look over your shoulder, problem solved.

    what a pile of steaming crap. Cant hyundai figure out who it wants to copy ? the front has Benz S-Class and Lexus LS430 slapped all over the design cue. No genuine luxury car buyer is ever going to even consider a hyundai. They'd be too embarrassed to drive that piece of turd. This piece of crap is for wanna be "rich" folks who cant afford the REAL thing and needs to buy this junk to try and keep up with the jone's next door. What a joke
