I've been a fan of the SD-1 since the 80s. I currently use the Waza Craft edition and love it. It just adds the right amount of magic to get you the perfect tone. Besides its name, it's not a simple heavy metal pedal. it's great for all genres of music. With a pedal like this, you can contour your sound, boost for leads, etc. I've always said, Never underestimate the power of a good pedal.
@@ricksanchezito8972 The Waza has a switch that turns their mod on or off. I like it on, because I feel it adds another dimension of presence, which works well for me as I like to drive Fender amps rather than bright Marshalls.
@@earthstrong-43.72 I think it’s so silly that people rag on Zakk when half of them can’t even play half of the stuff he does. He’s a very well rounded musician who can shred but also can play melodically, and he doesn’t get paid to play pretty solos, he gets paid to rock 🤘
I’ve been using one since 1984. The C-6 (removal) mod is a good mod if you want less midrange and a more open tone. I use a stock one beside a modded one, for the best of both worlds.
Use #3 is exactly what I'm looking for - I've got humbucker guitars going into a Marshall DSL40CR and don't want to add gain, just "tighten up" the flubby bass (or add some gain for a solo boost), I need to try this pedal!
Nice demo AAAA++++++ SD1 rocks!! If you have a single channel amp like my 66 Fender Bassman mine is modified with a master volume set it to where it is just on the verge of breakup 3.5 to 4 on my amp use the master volume to bring the volume down. Use the SD1 to push the amp over the top set gain to taste and you will get overdrive heaven at a volume you can be in the same room with. I know some really think the master volume mod on an old Bassman is sacrilege if so you also probably think the SD1 is a crap pedal because it cost under $50.00 current price. Well, you are just wrong. :)
Boss SD-1 . Boss BD-2 . Boss OD-3 .
Through a clean amp might be the most common way to use an overdrive pedal but this pedal much like the DS-1 was made to go into an edge of breakup to dirty amp.
I already have a DS1 but i’m looking for an affordable pedal that can do 4 things. 1st as an overdrive sound that’s less heavy then a Ds1 for some calmer stuff and 2. as clean boost for some more full sounding clean playing. 3rd would be as a boost after my Ds 1 for solos, does it have a big volume boost? 4. also am wondering if I could place it before my Ds 1 with the level down so that when I engage my Ds1 at full level it has a significant volume boost. My main question is does it have a versatile level knob that I can use for dynamics? Are all these things possible? Thanks. Great video by the way!
I just got one for Christmas. I plug it in the amp and all it does is act like a volume pedal and nothing else. It doesn’t sound like it does on this video. Any guess what could be wrong with it? Also, I don’t have an adapter on it, could that be the problem? Cheers!
It’s more like how it is at the 2:50 mark yea? I was having the same issue, but think of it sort of as a way to achieve a maxed out tube amp sound. I was playing it through the bright mode of my amp and having your same issue, but when I switch to the girth I got the sound I wanted
Marco Taproot You can’t unless you have a Metal Amp. This is an overdrive circuit. Not a distortion. If you have a Metal amp then you could use his to slam the front and tighten up the bass and get that chugga chug. If you have a clean amp....get a Metal amp. 🤘🏼
What pedal do I need to play the beginning of "smells like teen spirit"? I just want to be able to change from clean to distorted without touching my amp.
@@michaelpurdieabbott7743 Thank you. Did some research and I think you're right. The DS 1 is what I'm after. Just bought one for $50 off of americanmusicsupply. Thanks again for the help.
Bilal Nachabeh I’ve had both. I love the SD1 with my Marshall 2525. It just works. The SF is good by itself on a clean amp or a slightly broken up amp to drive it into break up but to me it didn’t pair well with a heavily crunchy amp. 🤘🏼

Possibly the best and most comprehensive demo of this pedal. Nice job and thanks for your help.

What's the difference in this and the waza craft?

Zakk Wylde use the SD-1 overdrive through a dirty Marshall. Sounds fantastic
@John Dough dumb reason to hate a piece of gear.
Edit: Wylde has monster tone, and shreds like one too.

I still got mine from 1980
I just got a new one. I left my original in a casket with an ex guitarist.
It is in my board since 1780. I like mine modded.
How do you do the mod?
@@DotM68 - just google it, you simply remove the capacitor, really simple, takes 5-10 minutes max.

This is now only $49 on Amazon folks, I just bought one.

Does it give a significant volume boost?

Boss MT 2 for metal.
Depends on the type of metal and what you want out of it.
I use one in front of a dimed tube head and it works just fine for Stoner Rock
Stack it with a distortion pedal, sd 1 & Proco Rat 2 is a good combo
The SD-1 in front of a dirty amp is the way to go......it boosts/refines/enhances......

Awesome
What version? I find the new one kills the bass and too much mid, sounds lofi
Mine a fuzz kinda sound and dont know really what could be.
Whilst I've always liked the over drive sound of these pedals it drove me crazy that they have such a severe bass roll off that can't be adjusted.

This should work well. Cobain used boss distortion pedals quite frequently
Specifically the Boss DS 1

Hello! Can you use this pedal with a blackstar id 100 tvp head amplifier??
Yeah sure!
I have one but the Mxr Wylde 44 is alot better value for money

You aught to demo the pedal its self without another distortion added to it.
The first two demos WERE with no other distortion.
Putting an over drive pedal between the amp and distortion pedals always sounds more focused to me
