The Focus has a "Sound Symposer" (=a valve which opens to connect the exhaust to the cabin). Had the Hyundai for 18 month and now have the ST.And apart from the sound the Ford wins in every department it’s got much better build quality and the seating position is spot on.Nice review guys.
It does not have sound coming through the speakers, it’s a sound symposer, meaning there is a plastic tube that comes off of the engine and is channeled in the direction of the cabin, so it is real sound from the engine, but it’s being piped in. There is a very simple kit you can buy to delete this symposer, which I have done on my FoST
@@hegartyj1 its actually both. The following taken from their website: " The 'N' in Hyundai N stands for Namyang, home to Hyundai Motor's global R&D Centre in Korea since 1995, where the idea was born, and for the Nürburgring, home to Hyundai Motor's European Test Centre, where the i30 N was further developed and tested"
Nice to see.. I buy an ST and waiting for him.. At the time I was to buy the i30N but here in Portugal it's expensive than the ST. 44.000 euros for the i30N and 42.000 euros for the ST. I hope I made the right choice. Car is arriving February.
The Focus ST has an e-LSD on the Petrol models and comes with Heated Seats & Wheel as standard too. Although I do believe that some sound is put through the speakers.
I think the mk3 is far better outside, looks way more aggressive over its stline counterparts, but the interior of the mk3 is decades behind its competitors, thankfully the mk4 remedies the interior
Think they are 2 very different cars - The focus is a well tuned road car , the Hyundai is a detuned track car and its been purposely built like that - bumpy and jittery as hell on normal roads and motorways but when its on song on the right country lanes you cant fault it - its sharp, tight and you need to hang on to it - And the brakes - there huge thick discs and pull it than my RS4 brakes do
Correct me if I am wrong, an St-Line is meant to look like an ST without the performance, same as buying an AMG appearance package, it’s been done by many car companies in the past
Your not wrong. Pretty dumb of them to say they don’t like the st because it looks like a st-line. Of course it does, st-line is a zetec with a st body kit
You really needed the Performance Pack, it gives you adaptive dampers and track mode as well as rev matching and launch control. Also, they come with sensors, rear camera, heated seats and steering wheel and car play, keyless entry and start all as standard the only options are Perf pack, HUD, Blind Spot and Pano Roof and wireless charging.
Guys, you got a few things wrong on the Focus. The 0-60 is 5.7 not 5.8. There is no lap timer with the Performance Pack. This comes from an owner of a Focus ST.
Hi Leon! Thanks for watching the video. If you re-watch, you’ll see we were quoting 0-62 times, not 0-60, so the information we provided was correct. We were told that the performance pack gave the option to time laps but maybe this is not correct. Once again, thanks for watching and hope you’re enjoying your ST! 😊
The Focus has sound pumped through the speakers, the Hyundai has an ESG (Electronic Sound Generator) which uses a device mounted to the windshield that vibrates causing sound to enter the cabin. The Hyundai's can be disabled by unplugging the device, the Focus' I have no idea what the options are. Also, peak torque on the i30N is actually 378 Nm as it has an overboost function, and I've seen dyno's of 400+ Nm peak torque in the low RPM range. The noise you got in the i30N on hard acceleration is what you call wheel hop or axle tramp and can be fixed by for instance fitting a stiffer engine mount. If you couldn't guess already; I have bought an i30N.
@diamus100 There's also a german video showing you how to unplug/remove it for the i30N. I guess these guys know what they're talking about. Followed the instructions and successfully unplugged the bugger this morning. What a difference, now the droning noise is gone.
@@MrSamwiseable Thank you for your compassion. I too think it will be very troublesome after the 5 year warranty has expired. How much does Ford offer anyways?
This video is soo helpful for me. I'm considering both cars for my next one and being the same hight as Tim is helping alot and seeing how much room there is for me and weather or not I will fit. So thanks for this!👍👍
Price** If your interested i have a focus ST 2020 model that is only 8 weeks old, my one is £299 a month on finance with a £5k deposit (12k miles a year over 38 months). Its spec is with the performance pack and a wireless induction charger with a head up display, heated seats and steering wheel, with all the other lovely stuff like rev matching, boost gauge, track mode that all comes with the performance pack. I would say the ST wins on price.
The ST is basically an RS with the boost capped. It retains the same fake pops and bangs via ignition timing retardation, upon throttle lift, and the same fake induction through the speakers. Let's hope it hasn't inherited the RS engines head gasket and knocking steering rack issues.
Thank you really enjoyed that 👍🏻. I really like both, but the I30N just tips it for me. Sure the warranty still covers non competitive track use, and for someone who wants to get into MSV Track days that’s a big bonus. I’m guessing the I30N WRC sounds have been made quieter with the new european exhaust regulations? As it used to as louder than the focus. Agree the seats are meh in the I30N, maybe in the new AWD version they are hinting they will resolve all of the customer feedback.
@SJC 93 Can’t be any worse that Ford tbh, recently they tried to charge me for a new coolant header tank and cap, because the bottom of the coolant cap had stuck in the header tank, top of the cap has separated and screws off with the bottom stuck. This happened under a service. They swore they had not done it, and wanted to charge me. I’d never heard anything like it, but a quick google showed this is a common failure. When I picked the car up, I was told the cap is built to cost and is a failure point. I bought a new genuine cap off amazon for £12, after a few cut knuckles got it out my self. Put the new one on, adding a small amount of silicone grease, hopefully never have the issue again.
Just a heads up, Ford's warranty also covers non-competitive track use in their sporty models. That includes the STs, RSes, Mustangs and GTs. They just don't market it as loudly as Hyundai did.
I have a mk3 focus ST and it has a sound symposer in it so the mk4 might have the engine sound coming into the car aswell. ST sounds great but I do like the i30N quite alot, especially in the blue.
Being in America this generation Focus is nonexistent, and the Hyundai is very rare. Of the two the Focus RS is better looking, appears mature, and having excellent results from the 2.3, via an Ecoboost Mustang, I know which one I would go for.
I think you were trying to hard to sell the focus to yourself, all you have to do is admire the look sporty but also looks luxury, I feel you get the best of both worlds👍
So I know that my mk3 ST is a valve that opens to give it that slightly more sporty sound under acceleration, rather than fake noise played through speakers, which is what BM are doing with some of their M cars, in saying that, the mk8 fiesta ST uses speakers to give some noise so they may be doing the same on the mk4 focus. At the end of the day the sound from the outside is much better from the ST than the i30N, even from the cockpit of the focus you can hear that naughty rumble and the pops the bangs and the crackles, which I find the N is lacking, it does do it but no where near as noticeable
Great review! In the Focus in sport mode and above you're absolutely getting sound through the speakers as well, but the sound itself is close to that of the engine so it's not near as bad as, say, the Mustang Ecoboost where you're getting this V8 sound from the speakers when the car has a 4-cyl. One thing you guys haven't touched on is the discounts Ford offer on these. In classic Ford fashion, they offer 'discounts' on pretty much all of their cars. My dealer specced up an almost full option ST for me (only the sunroof was missing) for 30.5k EUR, when the list price would have been 36k. That's exactly the same price as the i30N in my country. With sunroof you're looking at a hair over 31k, which is only ~1k more expensive than the i30N. You really can't go wrong buying either of these cars, but since the price is very similar if you take the discounts into account I think the Focus is a better deal. By the way, Hyundai advertises that the warranty covers non-competitive track use. It's worth mentioning that Ford offer this too, in all of their ST/RS and sports cars models (like the Mustang). They don't market it properly for some reason though.
I've just purchased the focus st and there are a few things to note. I bought 2nd hand and NOT having the performance pack was a must! I don't want a car with a track mode (possibly been tracked) or launch control (dump clutch at revs) for me the styling is underrated which is good I don't want a yobbo 20y old in a fiesta st trying to race me all the time especially with kids in the back. It real world conditions the st manages 40mpg on a run which is OK but actually worse than my 340i (3.0 straight 6) I had previous which could manage 45mpg some days
On the fuel economy, my experience with Fords is that if anything they exceed the stated figures. Some other brands of car I’ve owned don’t even come close.
The interior is nearly identical in both but Ford has better seats. You get more to play with on the i30N when it comes to customisation of the car though, that’s a big yes from us in a modern hot hatch!
Good review guys, I have the i30 n, so can say, the axel tramp or wheel hop is down to wet conditions and the pirelli P zero tyres which nearly every owner hates, they're only ok in pure dry conditions. Also the N is very thirsty, mpg is about 30 at best. I do like the Ford but the price of the N has dropped a bit so it's a good bit cheaper than the ST. The car is an absolute joy to drive
FYI... The I30 N has an over boost function that temporarily increases torque by 8% for up to 18 seconds. So it can hit 378 Nm under hard acceleration.
Bought one myself (performance model in Polar White). Previously had two mk3 Focus ST's and a mk2 before that. Had assumed I'd love/buy a mk4... But decided on a change and bought the Hyundai instead. Nothing wrong with the new mk4 Focus ST really. It just sort of seemed a bit too "civilized" for me. The Hyundai came over as a bit more "old school" and the exhaust in sport+ mode made me laugh out loud. So many nice motors about these days, hard to choose really. Comes down I suppose to what floats your boat.
Im looking at this from a modified tuned point of view and the ST has an engine that has been around for a while and its a bigger engine + turbo so the potential in the ST is much greater than the N
I belive its the same 2.3l block from the beloved RS with all sort of issues nope? De-tuned version. So not sure if id have the balls to start crank it up.
The ford has "no fancy diff"? Both cars have LSD's, that's some major oversight there. Also most of the stuff you say comes standard on the i30n also is standard on the focus st, like wireless charging , heated seats, parking sensors and a rear view camera... That could of course depend on the market, here in germany that's the case at least.
Yes Ford plays sound into cab. But you said Ford doesn’t have clever diff it does in petrol . Both of my friends have the Hyundai and after a few months interior rattles like mad I have focus still all good no rattles . Plus in uk Ford will defo hold more on its value.
I’ve just sold my 21 plate ST and brought the facelift i30N with the DCT.. it’s better in every way, Ford have missed a trick with the comparison of features compared to the Hyundai. What’s scary is the price of the mark 4 facelift ST, it’s more than a brand new i30N. Yet lacks in every comparison except for heated windscreen, great feature in the winter and has slightly more torque but the DCT i30 has NGS, which more than makes up for it. Trust me, drive them both, more than once.
The Ford ride is rock hard even in comfort. The Hyundai has so much better range between comfort and sport. Not sure what the road are like in Britain, but in Australia, you really want the option of having all things in sport, but the suspension softer for some of the rougher roads. The Ford is hard to a point where it bounces down the road. (Unless they Australia suspension spec if harder?)
The question you're answering "Does the design of the sporty model differentiates itself enough from the standard models?" has nothing to do with the question you are supposed to be discussing it you wanna be picking a winner in the design category "Does either car look better than the other?". It is a total mistery for me how the Hyundai should be the winner just cause it has more stripes etc. if it's general design is about a decade behind the one of the Focus.
one thing that takes the Hyundai ahead for me is the fords increased level of theft. whether that's due to ford having a laxer security system or just because they're a pound a dozen. i'd rather one that historically has a much lower chance of getting nicked
În my country, Focus ST Wagon (!!!) is actually cheaper than i30 hatch Performance. And I'm talking ST Wagon Performance Pack! That did it 4 me as a family guy. Race Red Panoramic View...i30 not bad though
@@PebleyBeachPB it was an absolute pleasure working with you on that video! Such a lovely dealership! We will be sure to give you a call when we have more content lined up! 😊

Ford did a great job on the performance upgrades compared to the 2015-2019 ST line up... but aesthetically, I think my 2016 looks a lot better. The previous gen (2015-2019) should have had a bigger turbo..even just slightly..its limited quite a bit with that little K03..but it does produce an impressive amount of torque. My 2016 has full bolt-ons and is currently on an OTS Cobb stage 3 tune (93 octane). Other than a custom tune, I cant do much without going big turbo. I'm actually impressed with the N"s performance, jumping straight in and being able to compete with the big boy hot hatches... but I'm not sold on its looks or the price for what you get. current Focus ST performance + previous Focus ST aesthetics = perfect hot hatch (which if Subaru was still in the hatchback game, the STi hatch was a sweet little gem too)
For me it’s the i30 a lot cheaper for the same spec. Not sure why the reviewers didn’t make more of the 5 year vs 3 year warranty in the cost section. That’s a huge difference. It’s not until more people go with the manufacturers offering 5 year warranties that the others will be forced to follow suit...
@@BOTBreviews Ah OK, that's good to know. The St sounds pretty loud in the video and I know from experience the i30n is loud too. Thanks for the reply 👍
@@BOTBreviews i Think the new I30n with GPF is still louder than the ST. Not in paper (91db) but in reallife it sounds almost as loud as the older version with 109db.
@@MrSupersixfour and that's the best you can have from it. Pretty much maxed out. Other platforms like vw or honda can get you to the 400bhp region with standard turbo and only swapped bolt ons.
Just a slight correction. I30N will not achive 40mpg in real world :D Im happy to see an average 28.8 after 12k miles. Im not raggin it, but drive it in a dynamic way. Also small tank 45l. Usually comp says 320miles range. What I wanna say if anyone would buy these cars because of their running costs(fuel consumption) then look elsewhere. Otherwise I love every single bit of the lil evil.
The boot of the ST is not 375 liters but 341 liters! The woofer of the B&O installation raises the bottom by 10 cm. I only have a 1.5 ST Line since the price difference in the Netherlands is approx. 15000 euros (approx 13000 BPS) due to extra CO2 tax on the ST.
Aaannnndddd here we go again..... Love the new ST and wish Ford wouldn't have cancelled it here in the States.... It has a sound symposer from the intake.... The ride comes from the heart of late 80's early 90's Cosworth group A suspensions with new technology...... Which one of the two has the bigger petrol tank?? Wish I could enter, don't think you could import either car to the US..... Great vid guys 👍👍
The comment was not aimed at either of you. When you were looking at the Hyundai bumper saying look at this - the camera man was looking at you so I couldn’t see what you were on about. Maybe the camera man likes the way you look - just joking. On a more serious note both cars are expensive - the focus is considerably more than the previous version so I’m guessing they’ll sell less. Who in their right mind is gonna pay £27k for a Hyundai ? The reason the Hyundai is better equipped is because they’re like Kia - you have to offer more to tempt buyers - that simple. Ford cars are consistently on best seller lists every year.
The only real things it adds in the Ford is access to rev matching, track mode and it sharpens things up a little. You get more goodies as standard with the i30N.
@@BOTBreviews it sharpens things up A LOT. The difference between normal and sport and track mode is night and day for each. Ridiculous comparison to not have it on the Focus.
Have you seen the price difference 😂 Think they’ve done that to keep it around the same price bracket. Get so much more for your money with the Hyundai.
@@karl684 the list price for a Focus is a joke, you can get them with Performance pack for 28k from dealers with ease. Granted, I suppose you do need to go with the price given by companies but anyone paying 32-34k for that Focus is a mug.
I could see it coming. The bald guy was always 'pumping up the Ford', the other bloke was slightly more taken by the i30. The factor I don't get is the i30N is Korea's first V HOT HATCH, irrespective of the Albert Bierman factor. That Korean cars are never 'COOL' means the i30N is always going to be pushing s**t up hill. I feel for the engineers & workers at Hyundai/Kia 'cos their first efforts don't get the reward that they deserve.
Ford copied Hyundai as the i30N came out before Ford revised the focus. Active dampers, exhaust and dash copied but infotainment in Hyundai is better to use. I bought the i30N as Ford costs more and looks similar to ST Line. Ford bigger inside though. i30N also does better on fuel economy on a run at 42 mpg at motorway speeds. Drive both as everyone will like their own choice. Both good cars. I30N getting dual clutch auto box soon so will be quicker. Also Hyundai warranty track use for 5 years for non timed events.
Today you cannot say, that somebody copied something from the other. All companies are producing (unfortunately) very similar designs today, especially in the hot hatch segment. If you start with it, then everybody originally copied the VW Golf. Today there are only small differences and everybody is following same trends. Since the designers in that companies are not children or no-brainers, they study the trends and follow similar design languages. *** What about Head-Up display in the Focus ST? Can't find one in the i30N. Why nobody talks about it. I like that small thing, you start to like it after a while. i30N has the better fuel economy? Guess why, you wise guy :) Of course it has...it has less horsepower and has less engine displacement. It is only logic, that it consumes less fuel ;) What is also to mention and can be seen in several autobahn videos, that at very high speeds > 200 kph the ST takes advantage in accelerating. And come on fellow, if you put the words "dual clutch auto" in your mouth - you are not the target group of Focus ST. :D Focus ST is not about to be the quickest car on the track or the street. Focus ST and RS have been never about it. But those cars are about passion, fun, perfect control about every move and action of the car. Achieved with manual transmissions. ST and RS are for those of us, who are the pure, small every day racers in their hearts, who cannot afford an expensive super sport car. We do not even think about automatic transmission, no way in such a car.
Yes I agree but ford seems to have added all the features Hyundai have on the I30N. I know of an older ST that has been modified by owner and it would run rings around latest Ford ST and with the body kit mods he has done with an RS looking kit it looks so much better. Cost a bit but it fly's and sub 6 sec 0 to 60 mph.
@craig mitchell pillred We get everything standard in the Performance version except for a sunroof (Belgium). I don't care about the Recaro seats. The N seats are better than the bottom range Recaro's in the ST anyway and they are heated and electric. And if you would really want to: Hyundai offers proper Recaro's for the i30 N: hyundaizubehoer.de/en/i30-n/864-recaro-schalensitz-fahrer-i30n.html Navigation is outdated anyway. The i30 N comes standard with Android Auto or Apple Carplay. So why would you bother getting a built in GPS system when something like Waze will give you real time information? I never use the built in GPS system.
I own the I30N performance I have done so for two years now and I have no desire to change any time soon. This car gets looks all the time from guys in fancy cars have come over to me in garages and car parks to have a chat even driving along the road it gets the eye have a M8 who is buying the ST Ford to tell you the truth I actually prefer the Hyundai I30 N . It is all down to personal preference but for you to state what you have without ever having sat in one or driven one to say what you have said is total nonsense there is nothing lacking about the Hyundai interior, ok maybe it does not have that luxury soft rubber dash maybe it is lacking in the more up market plastics for the door cards. Maybe the seating is too high I am 6' 3'' myself and I do not find it cramped at all the seats are perfect all electric comfy I just adore thsi car. What this we car has in spades is a fantastic engine and the performance is next to none you can have the car remapped and it will give a lot more output to put it on par with the Honda type R, then if you want to go the whole hogg upgrade the turbo and this thing will eat the Ford RS. Hyundai have already have this car sitting at 440HP and that is with the same engine but with a bigger turbo and remapped. What I am saying here this car will become a collector’s car eventually they will go skyward I won’t ever sell this car, there are mods coming out for this car all the time so when my warranty expires I will be upgrading my turbo and will install a stage 1 remap that will put up there with the big boys quite literally and scarily so maybe too fast but then that what modding is all about. In its more down to earth standard configuration, you can’t really fault it well I can’t I love it. It is fun to drive and when you ask it to go faster it responds with a growl and it flies, I have no regrets whatsoever I have no interest in how the interior looks I also have no interest in the audio system I could not care less about the interior styling. I do love how the car performs and on a twisty country road the car just comes alive. Watch the video on the Australian cross road rally this Hyundai came 3rd and it beat some muscle cars which the team weren’t expecting for now it is in its original configuration but in the future they are going to turn it into a monster. That is what you can do to this car, it is for the car enthusiast. In my eyes everything about that Ford ST looks bloody cheap. Sounds kind of stupid for me to say that Much like you trashing the Hyundai. well that’s how stupid your comment sounds as to what you said about the Hyundai. By the way I was trying to point out to @rikkiej28 how stupid their comment was without foundation as I think the New Ford ST is an ok motor but not for me. Just becuase I would not buiy a Ford does not mean I will trash it, PEACE.
@@terryiesharkels7807 good to hear your experience. I guess it depends on where you are regarding tuning support etc. Also the cost of what you're talking about is pretty high, to the point where you could buy a car a level up (A45 or M2 if that's what you're into - I'm not). What kind of $$ are you thinking with respect to stage 3 for the I30N?
Ok its not quite on a par with a golf or an audi but the dash doesnt creak like my RS4 dash creaks , the rear hatch doesnt squalk like my wifes A1 does so theres your comparison - interior is ok , pretty much like a ford - bodywork all fits nice , paints fine - theres nowt wrong it really

Your not wrong. Pretty dumb of them to say they don’t like the st because it looks like a st-line. Of course it does, st-line is a zetec with a st body kit
Thanks for the video !!! In this video I went to BOTB and made my bid !!! Wish me luck into get my dream i30n performance 😍😍😍
You really needed the Performance Pack, it gives you adaptive dampers and track mode as well as rev matching and launch control.
Also, they come with sensors, rear camera, heated seats and steering wheel and car play, keyless entry and start all as standard the only options are Perf pack, HUD, Blind Spot and Pano Roof and wireless charging.
diamus100 I’ve never noticed those on my car before I’ll keep an eye out next time I’m driving in the dark
diamus100 I know they come standard with the fancy LED lights but wasn’t sure about the cornering but I’m sure they weren’t an option
@diamus100 they aren't an option they come as standard including the corning
Yeah Good Test without the Performance Pack 🤦♂️
If they did that with the performance pack they would have a different outcome for sure
Point that wasn't mentioned: the Focus ST is only a 3yr 36000mi powertrain warranty, the Hyundai i30 N Performance is 10yr 100000mi
Weird , I greece it's a 8 year or100.000km
Right?!? Very peculiar
Excellent choice! 😁👍
Me too mate!
@diamus100 There's also a german video showing you how to unplug/remove it for the i30N. I guess these guys know what they're talking about. Followed the instructions and successfully unplugged the bugger this morning. What a difference, now the droning noise is gone.
Leroy de Leeuw I’m sorry for your loss. Ford is better than Hyundai in every way. Enjoy your trips to service center
Hope that one day I'll win that I30N, lovely car! Great review guys!
The ST is basically an RS with the boost capped. It retains the same fake pops and bangs via ignition timing retardation, upon throttle lift, and the same fake induction through the speakers. Let's hope it hasn't inherited the RS engines head gasket and knocking steering rack issues.
Different turbo, different internals, different engine head.... It's not a capped rs. Almost a totally new engine.
pokest225 even the suspension is entirely different
The gasket issue in the RS was sorted 2017 so, no
And the RS is AWD and the ST is not.
Huge differences between this ST and the RS
Thank you really enjoyed that 👍🏻. I really like both, but the I30N just tips it for me. Sure the warranty still covers non competitive track use, and for someone who wants to get into MSV Track days that’s a big bonus.
I’m guessing the I30N WRC sounds have been made quieter with the new european exhaust regulations? As it used to as louder than the focus.
Agree the seats are meh in the I30N, maybe in the new AWD version they are hinting they will resolve all of the customer feedback.
Hlspwns World yes the GPF has made the car 10 decibels quieter. Was 109, now 99.
Hlspwns World Hyundai build quality is atrocious. And good luck with their warranty. They’ll find any reason to not honor it
@SJC 93 Can’t be any worse that Ford tbh, recently they tried to charge me for a new coolant header tank and cap, because the bottom of the coolant cap had stuck in the header tank, top of the cap has separated and screws off with the bottom stuck.
Its a bussiness model to go against customer and try to turn down their claim. Not only with Hyundai but any manifacture unfortunatly.
You're definitely getting better NVH in the Focus which is a big factor for a daily driver.
3:53 the „N“ stands for Nnamyang a test track in South Korea
It stands for both 😊
www.hyundai.com/worldwide/en/brand-journal/mobility-solution/n-story
Thanks! Great info too, I know Ford offer some good deals here in the U.K. too. Thanks for watching 👍
Always liked the i30N but interior is already beginning to look aged in my opinion, think I'd prefer to win the ST please 😝
The interior is nearly identical in both but Ford has better seats. You get more to play with on the i30N when it comes to customisation of the car though, that’s a big yes from us in a modern hot hatch!
There is a refresh in the works for a reason.
The ST comes with heated seats and steering wheel as standard. The only options it won’t come with are pan roof, HUD and performance pack.
I'm not a fan of the infotainment screen, feels like it will look dated in a very short time. st range overall though, i do like
Ford are very good at updating the infotainments system, plus you can do it over wifi if it stretches from your house.
Yesssss been waiting for a proper comparison on these two
This Hyundai. My God. I can't wait to see more N cars from this brand
Thx to god the fun in a car ist not all about drag racing. Maybe the manual is slower on the strip, but its sure more fun for a car enthusiast 😊
@@michaelowen6217 You made an excellent choice by buying a i30N. Going to order my i30 Fastback N in Performance Blue soon!
Im looking at this from a modified tuned point of view and the ST has an engine that has been around for a while and its a bigger engine + turbo so the potential in the ST is much greater than the N
There’s a i30n performance running 423bhp in Germany on stock internals
For how long? 😂
@@ohbollox2it different turbo. Not standard.
Focus ST all the way!!!
Since none of those are available in the US, I'll have to buy a GTI. THANKS FORD AND HYUNDAI!
U guys have the veloster n dude
@@ntastic2392 The Elantra N is coming too as a sedan, but no hatchback. The Veloster is not as practical as the hatch.
Fiesta ST won in the previous one over the Cooper S, but would it also beat the JCW?
Possibly, but the JCW is a lot more expensive...
True, but mainly just thinking about what to pick for the free bronze ticket in the dream car comp haha
I think you'll find heated seats & steering wheel are standard on the Ford, not extras
Great review guys the Focus seemed a lot quieter on road noise ?
The Ford ride is rock hard even in comfort. The Hyundai has so much better range between comfort and sport. Not sure what the road are like in Britain, but in Australia, you really want the option of having all things in sport, but the suspension softer for some of the rougher roads. The Ford is hard to a point where it bounces down the road. (Unless they Australia suspension spec if harder?)
It's just a shame they aren't bringing the I30N project c to the UK with all its carbon fibre and other upgraded spec
See you on Tuesday !!
The front grille on my 2018 st 1 is way nicer than the 2020 by far, they should have held this design...nine review
rfishy9 agree man, they got the interior right on these things, but the exterior is way better on our cars.
Fiesta ST a better fast Ford?
See our previous Rivals video!
one thing that takes the Hyundai ahead for me is the fords increased level of theft. whether that's due to ford having a laxer security system or just because they're a pound a dozen. i'd rather one that historically has a much lower chance of getting nicked
În my country, Focus ST Wagon (!!!) is actually cheaper than i30 hatch Performance. And I'm talking ST Wagon Performance Pack! That did it 4 me as a family guy. Race Red Panoramic View...i30 not bad though

There’s only two of us 😂 we can put the Cupra in the mix next time 👍🏻😊
In The Headlights and 308 gti
the Cupra costs much more and you can only get the Cupra with an automatic gearbox. While the prices of these two are comparable and they have around the same Price

Halogen interior lights in 2020 are not good...obviously no impact on the purpose of the car but feels instantly out of date

Hyundai for me
Is that disel petrol ca😊r?
You had both cars with you, there was two guys, why is it that you couldn’t race the cars???
Ford did a great job on the performance upgrades compared to the 2015-2019 ST line up... but aesthetically, I think my 2016 looks a lot better.
The previous gen (2015-2019) should have had a bigger turbo..even just slightly..its limited quite a bit with that little K03..but it does produce an impressive amount of torque.
My 2016 has full bolt-ons and is currently on an OTS Cobb stage 3 tune (93 octane). Other than a custom tune, I cant do much without going big turbo.
I'm actually impressed with the N"s performance, jumping straight in and being able to compete with the big boy hot hatches... but I'm not sold on its looks or the price for what you get.
current Focus ST performance + previous Focus ST aesthetics = perfect hot hatch (which if Subaru was still in the hatchback game, the STi hatch was a sweet little gem too)
Current ST interior is wayyy better than previous gens though
@@Philbyyyy agreed
Disagree with the bigger turbo on the older one, it already had issues putting its power to the ground because it doesn't have an LSD.
The 2013-2014 are the best looking ST versions to be honest.
No, the 2006-2010 looks better, helped by the fact that you weren’t forced to have back doors.
I'd think the 2015-2018 version or this version is the best looking of them all.
In person, what's louder while revving? The i30n or St?
Brand new? The ST. If it’s a pre-2019 i30N it’s much louder than the ST though.
@@BOTBreviews Ah OK, that's good to know. The St sounds pretty loud in the video and I know from experience the i30n is loud too. Thanks for the reply 👍
I30n is twice as loud as the st, I have a i30n, has valves in the exhaust that open up when in n mode
The 2019 and earlier i30N yes. But the brand new one has a GPF filter in the exhaust and has seriously quieted it down sadly.
@@BOTBreviews i Think the new I30n with GPF is still louder than the ST. Not in paper (91db) but in reallife it sounds almost as loud as the older version with 109db.
i30N Performance is the better car. It has loads of options as standard. Plus Hyundai's engine and gearbox is more reliable.
The N has 275 hp actually and does 0/60 in less than 5.8
I30n sucks on mapping and mods. Such a small turbo even stock it struggles. Anybody wants to mod it best to change turbo and it's not cheap.
Cool story bro, mines is up to 321hp....with ease
@@MrSupersixfour and that's the best you can have from it. Pretty much maxed out. Other platforms like vw or honda can get you to the 400bhp region with standard turbo and only swapped bolt ons.
Just a slight correction. I30N will not achive 40mpg in real world :D
Im happy to see an average 28.8 after 12k miles. Im not raggin it, but drive it in a dynamic way. Also small tank 45l. Usually comp says 320miles range.
What I wanna say if anyone would buy these cars because of their running costs(fuel consumption) then look elsewhere. Otherwise I love every single bit of the lil evil.
28.8?! You're doing extremely well, 23.2 in mine😳
i30N has a 5 year warranty and covers track use too.
Great video , thanks!
i think ford have made a mistake making the focus st looks similar to lesser models.they should flair the arches or something.
Probably keeping the flared arches and the sports look for the RS, just a thought.
@@warren3967 dont think theres gonna be one
Warren Penlington that was my thought. They did that with the facelifted ST in 2008, toned it down shortly before the RS launched.
In Europe there's no more intake tubed symposer. The euro facelift mk3 focus st got rid of that. Now it's digital enhanced sound.
Focus ST please.
I30N matching New Balance logo .. what else?
the ST guy wear a (st)ellar coat :)
03:25 presenter saying he likes the front grill with the red axial touch and camera-man shows us the clouds 😣!
I30 N any day over the Focus ST. Ford can't even cover you for track days like Hyundai can, plus the 5 year warranty.
You need the warranty with the Hyundai trust me mine was at the dealership more than it was parked on the drive.
@@nigelevans7812 have had 3 over the last 15 years and all been reliable
It would be nice if the camera man pointed the camera at the cars being reviewed - instead of pointing it at you !
We’re both fantastically good looking though Chris, you can’t deny that...
Both are good performace
You compared a performance edition Hyundai to a non performance pack ford 🙄
The only real things it adds in the Ford is access to rev matching, track mode and it sharpens things up a little. You get more goodies as standard with the i30N.
In The Headlights you also get more engine and transmission problems that come standard in the Hyundai
That colour on the i30 is horrendous. Get the performance blue or white and it looks totally different
I take i30N👌
The ST styling is actually worse then before, not much of a facelift. Mk2 still the one
That Hyundai looks great
So maybe the 'N' stands for 'Nicked (the M guy from BMW)'. :)
😂😂
I could see it coming. The bald guy was always 'pumping up the Ford', the other bloke was slightly more taken by the i30. The factor I don't get is the i30N is Korea's first V HOT HATCH, irrespective of the Albert Bierman factor. That Korean cars are never 'COOL' means the i30N is always going to be pushing s**t up hill. I feel for the engineers & workers at Hyundai/Kia 'cos their first efforts don't get the reward that they deserve.
Tim. The bald guy’s name is Tim. Just FYI.
I like the review
***
What about Head-Up display in the Focus ST? Can't find one in the i30N. Why nobody talks about it. I like that small thing, you start to like it after a while.
i30N has the better fuel economy? Guess why, you wise guy :) Of course it has...it has less horsepower and has less engine displacement. It is only logic, that it consumes less fuel ;)
What is also to mention and can be seen in several autobahn videos, that at very high speeds > 200 kph the ST takes advantage in accelerating.
What are the relative prices and actual warranties again?
Yeah and at the i30N not standard recaro,Navigation etc 🤣🤣🤣 and the Focus ST win in Germany
@craig mitchell pillred standard aha mhh in germany you pay extra for navigation :)
@craig mitchell pillred We get everything standard in the Performance version except for a sunroof (Belgium). I don't care about the Recaro seats. The N seats are better than the bottom range Recaro's in the ST anyway and they are heated and electric. And if you would really want to: Hyundai offers proper Recaro's for the i30 N: hyundaizubehoer.de/en/i30-n/864-recaro-schalensitz-fahrer-i30n.html
Navigation is outdated anyway. The i30 N comes standard with Android Auto or Apple Carplay. So why would you bother getting a built in GPS system when something like Waze will give you real time information? I never use the built in GPS system.
Owned then both i30n is better
Ford Performance pack £250 get it.
In my eyes everything about that Hyundai looks bloody cheap
@craig mitchell pillred ooh touchy,,
craig mitchell pillred a bit touchy, are we? To be fair he has a point. Hyundai looks cheap
I never win on BOTB. 😭
Keep trying and thanks for watching! 😁👍
Hyundai Wins...because it costs less.
