    What passes for big talent today is a joke, mostly. Stills may be overlooked today but he was a monster in his day and still is to those of us that know his music. Steven Stills and his music still matters!

    Huge talent. Almost too much ability as much of his solo work tended to be over produced - but within the structure of a group: Buffalo Springfield, CS&N/Y, or Manassas - man could he deliver. Also, his live performances could be spectacular. Keep rocking Stephen!

    The fingerboard binding indicates that it is at least a 35, however although the abalone of a 45 is fairly indistinct due to the video quality, the guitar clearly has headstock binding and hexagon inlays which the 35 does not have, so it is at least a 41. If anyone can see the abalone on the sides and/or back, this means it is a 45. The body size is clearly a D. Voila D-45.

He never told people to do it or to stay away from it, he was a mess at some of his concerts (ask me how I know) and we know nothing really about his real life. Just leave it.

    • @lizlalove6171
      @lizlalove6171 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Jason, that's a great question. Sorry you got so much negativity here and I hope it doesn't turn you off to SS.
      What was different about him is that he came out with a new type of songwriting (for the time) that was folk rock that was thematically more intense, personal and....psychological. Everyone else was playing blues, politically-flavored folk or a rootsy type of early rock. SS went into emotional territory that was unusual for the time.
      For examples, check out 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes', '4+20', 'Carry On'. Also, he's an underrated guitar player because I believe most people focus on the songwriting (which was so pioneering and very unique.) His vocals were kickass, too.
      If you look at it from these points of view, he could basically....blow your mind. It also has to do with when you grew up and what hit you the hardest when you were a child/teen/young adult. Not to take anything away from his talent, but the era you came up in has to do with how profoundly some things hit you.
      Happy Listening!

    Does this guy ever tell the truth? How many govts did he watch fall in S. America while he dodged machine gun bullets? But he spent his youth among the segregated blacks in the south who taught him to play music until he joined the folk scene in Greenwich Village, but came to LA and wrote "For What It's Worth" about the riots over closing Pandora's Box? Which version of that story does he tell here? I saw him auditioning for a TV show that would be called the Monkees; the rest of us had no idea his life was so full. But we knew he was full of something.

    • @caseyjoanz
      @caseyjoanz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Josh Sheets --Maybe if I hadn't heard him talk about the same events with different endings to the stories every time he tells them ...! Maybe if his ability to be all over the world experiencing everything from fighting S. American Contras to leading the civil rights movement. (he has claimed to have played a key role) didn't make me skeptical, I'd say it was possible. And it's possible I have my facts wrong. I might have misunderstood, you know? Listen to him yourself and draw your own conclusions. You certainly have no reason to believe me.
      If you listen to his tales and think he's an amazing man who's had an incredible life, maybe I'm just too cynical. And I'm wrong about a lot of things! I really am. If he's someone you admire, it was tasteless of me to call him a Liar.

      People said the same thing about John Lennon; he beat his wives, neglected his eldest son Julian, cut him out of his will, was a monster when he was drinking and/or doing drugs, and yet he is one of my favorite performers along with Stephen. Loved them when they either speak or sang. But here’s the thing, Stephen is still alive to defend himself, but John isn’t thanks to a crazed fan who shot him. Both men are musical geniuses, who were at times fueled by drugs and alcohol, but they produced many great classics between them as in groups and solo, and when they played, they were truly in their element.
      I am dismayed at posters like you who keep harping about their personal lives and how they beat their wives, how many drugs they took, how many drinks they have before they became violent, or had numerous affairs with groupies and other celebrities, and how they are hypocrites for singing about peace and love while they were horrible to their families and friends. Both men were a product of the times; many of their contemporaries were also guilty of one, some, or all of the things they did, so I suggest you keep your trap shut until all the facts are in. As the old saying goes, there are two sides to a story, the truth lies in the middle.

      @@tammylewis2408 Cynthia Lennon wrote quite the opposite. YO never said he beat her. He was a mean drunk, which is why he didn't get drunk all that often and eventually quit drinking. Lennon was never 'fueled' by drugs and alcohol. Try to avoid revisionist history.
