US fan in 30s here. I can attest I became a fan from drive to survive a few years ago. Last year I watched every race! It's fun when you begin understanding strategy and can really follow a race. Love the content!

Watched DTS from season one, a few years later told my son about it, he started watching it and then my wife. Now F1 is a family activity where my son comes back home and we all watch it together. So much fun LETS GO!!

F1 fan from Pakistan. I started watching f1 in 2020 before watching Drive to Survive, but once I watched it helped a lot in understanding what's really going on and it's not just 20 cars going in circles.
I hope Gunther does some guest spots in the paddock doing some guest commentary next year. We’d love to see him.

I remember growing up watching Formula 1 in Canada (mostly in French late Sunday nights) my favorite race of the entire season was the Canadian Grand Prix because there was always an extra hour or so of coverage behind the scenes before the race that we never saw during other races in the season. This made it so much more interesting. I love Drive To Survive for the SAME reason and I hope it continues for many years to come. I love binging the series as a preview to get me excited before the new season begins. Bring it on! It’s light out and away we go!

It’s just tricky that it comes out on the final day of testing, as I have so much work to do, but would love to do a me watching DTS video
I watched F1 many years ago but had drifted away from it. DTS definitely was the reason I came back and I never miss a race using F1TV Pro. I really don't remember how I discovered you and this YT channel, but I'm very glad I did. Your work perfectly compliments the racing with videos like this one giving a lot of the back story. I know you will keep up the great work and I urge all people that are not subscribed to please do so !

I was an F1 fan way before Drive to Survive. But watching the DTS series enhances my F1 knowledge in an entertaining way and makes the races even more enjoyable!

Hey Kym! Proud US/DTS fan here! I honestly did not give much regard to F1 until just over a year ago when DTS was recommended to me on my Netflix. It's crazy to think that I'm not the only American fan that has gotten into the sport via this show and I am happy to say I got my parents invested as well. Keep up the good work and I'm excited to see more from you throughout this upcoming 2024 season!
I think Drive to Survive is fantastic, what excites me most isn't the drama but is just being able to see the sport we love so much in a different light, you see camera angles and BTS footage you just don't get to see elsewhere and that's perfect.
It also always releases at a perfect time to get me into the F1 groove again.
I hope it stays for many more years to come.

Kym. I've followed F1 since Niki Lauda raced....at Ferrari. So I have a bit of knowledge about this sport. Watching the growth of fandom in the US as you have presented, why would someone like Andretti be denied? It would only increase F1 popularity. And bring fresh blood. I have my opinions as to why they were denied which don't dovetail with the overall media narrative. As for you. You are a gem. And your family as well. The F1 experience is greatly enriched with your participation.
It might prove to be a bad decision.

I'm a fan that grew up watching F1 with my dad, but we stopped watching it after Sky started showing it and you had to pay for it. But DTS brought me back to F1 from the 2019 season onwards, and I'm so glad it did because F1 got me through the pandemic when they were able to race again in 2020/21.
I remember when a Schumacher and a Verstappen were team mates, as I grew up watching F1 with my father.
Nowadays, with more social media from the teams combined with DTS, I do feel like the sport has gotten more accessible. The sports commentators (I watch the F1tv crew) are also aware of the new people watching by giving extra explanations.
Testing is next week and the first race in two.....looking forward to it and all your videos!

I dabbled as a spectator of F1 for several years. But we never got much info streamed to us in America. I saw a few races when I worked for a Goodyear franchise and we had the Goodyear corporate tent access.
I have a tech background and have always been fascinated by these cars. But could never find much technical data on them in the US.
DTS granted all of us that inside view of the technical, the teams, drivers etc… we sought. I fell in love with it.
Then came F1 TV in the states and I was hooked as a subscriber. F1 TV is phenomenal in their internal coverage and leading up to race day. I think Will, Sam, Jolyon, Lawrence, Rosanna and the entire crew do a fantastic job of bringing us the technical info we as gear heads lust after and it’s so professionally put together.
But, I wait and wait for the season in review with Drive to Survive to be released. It’s the icing on the cake as a spectator of F1 racing.
Btw, I think the promoters for the new tracks in a the US need to turn down the rhetoric of races here. Too much fluff, off topic focus, unrelative celebrities egos being fed and the party atmosphere projected. We have zero F1 traditions or historic tracks in America to be worthy of the same amount of celebration as let’s say Monaco. Look at Miami, the fake water with boats.. stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Then they did it again the next year! We laughed AT you, Miami, not with you and you embarrassed us. And the greed we saw at Las Vegas, good race but shamefully indulgent.

Back in 2019 me and my friends were posted up at Turn 19 at COTA and this couple next to us were audibly trying to figure out what was going on (qualifying day) and after we explained qualifying, they admitted they were purely there thanks to DTS which, to me, was pretty amazing given that F1 was still not as popular as American sports even 7 years after our inaugural F1 race. It was cool to see firsthand the success that is DTS and I’m here for it, except for the skyrocketing prices..

I started with DTS back in June 2021, I really love it. But after I obsessed with F1 in Bahrain 2022 I just started to see what people meant about its drawbacks, in one hand it’s really nice that is helps grow the sport but I’d wish that people would actually interest themselves completely so that when they give an opinion is not based on a show that sometimes has some manufactured drama

It was the reason I got F1TV Pro for the last 2 years
I was so grateful for that first season of DTS. As a kid I loved auto racing but we didn’t really get much on T.V. I would scroll through the TV guide to see if that weeks Wide World of Sports was going to show any F1 racing. As years went by I followed Indy and NASCAR more.
I had just started paying attention again to F1 two seasons before DTS and binged that first season. I couldn’t shut up about it. I really think they nailed it season one and two but have lost their way. That being said, I’ll still watch it, especially now with all the drama going on.
Fan from OKlahoma here…we never watched NASCAR a day in our lives but when DTS came out we were all instantly hooked and have been fans ever since season 1

Drive to Survive is a definite must watch.
They indeed have great sound effects. Eps 8 last season when the Merc crashes into the Ferrari in turn1 was epic, enjoying my new surround speaker system
To be fair though - what was interesting in Season 1 and 2 wasto see what the drivers and teams did off-track. Now Drive To Survive is mostly just a race highlight-series same as you see on youtube. Pointles.

I have been watching or following Formula 1 in South Africa because of Michael Schumacher years back. I only learned of DTS late last year and watched all seasons last year. I love DTS and it gives another perspective and also started following the sports of TH-cam to be able to watch missed races. Am looking forward to the new season, cant wait and with the Lewis Hamilton move to Ferarri, it is going to be epic. they should actually do a documentary on this
Canadian fan, here, thanks to watching Netflix's "Drive to Survive" in early 2021. I've never missed watching an F1 season since. While Daniel Ricciardo is quite a character that I enjoy watching on both Drive to Survive and Race weekends, Guenther Steiner is not. While I get his entertainment value and his language is quite colourful, I cringe at his leadership style and think Netflix makes him out to be a fool. From what I've read about him, he's got a lot of experience and wisdom to share.
Dts has also inspired me to keep on writing the f1 al Renate universe I’ve been writing. Every time I watch it I get better at writing it in my personal opinion
Hi Kym, Are the "to camera" pieces that are shot in a dark room done at the one time (so people have to be prompted) or is that setup at each race?
What a joke of an Emmy. Awarding “best documentary” to a series which contains audio edited onto scenes where it was not originally (essentially faking the events seen in the series). “Best drama series” would be more appropriate.

Yep, it was lockdown boredom that brought me to the series and now I'm a huge F1 fan!
I, from the U.S., watched Drive to Survive the week after Austria in 2020 when Lando got his first podium. I saw some tweets about his podium and decided I had nothing better to do and I binged all 3 seasons in a weekend. Now on my 4th year as a fan, and I will never look back. Anyone who denies its influence is deluding themselves.

I liked your comment on Sweetening. The only thing that gets me going about sweetening is the wrong sound to the wrong situation. As an example, a 4 cylinder car with V8 sound track. Squealing tires on lose gravel or lose dirt / sand.

I like watching DTS purely to catch out the cheeky editing; they often use footage from multiple races and dump audio that the average viewer simply wouldn't catch.

I'm a new F1 from DTS viewer. I always wanted to start watching but just didn't know anything about the sport other than from the movie Rush and Forza video games.

It has brought me into F1. It has also shown me that I'll never be able to afford to attend a race. I knew the cars and teams are expensive, but I'm not accustomed to the cost of attending.

A certain fellow countryman became very hot in a sport where we until then had a rather pathetic trackrecord. Then I watched season 1 of DTS and I was sold to the sport. I guess it's the combo of someone you can cheer for and getting an inside in the human beings behind the sport that made me a fan.
Always enjoyed racing but DTS s2 was what really got me into F1

thank you for sharing your views on the format and the upcoming series edition.. Of course I'll be watching but much of it also because I am in dire need of hearing the sounds of the cars and action, so for me I am simply dying for the new F1 season. The real stuff as it unfolds on the tracks in GP weekends. Netflix/DtS is a format I guess designed to lure in the north American market into F1 racing and USA foremost and they bring it with series filled with drama, action, suspense behind the scenes spin offs to make it attractive for USA. I don't mind it at all haha.. I love drama and it is well scripted and composed
I like watching it as a recap of last year's race. The lead character is Günther Steiner. I hope he'll be back next season.
I expect he will be in the next season but who knows after that

The difference is amazing. Not a fan of DTS in terms of staging narrative and comment. But the camera and mic access is amazing - oh for independent access.
As a Brit who moved to the UK in 2009 my city's F1 club was a couple of dozen folks in a dive bar at 9am on a Sunday morning. Now two major pubs are rammed out every US time race and you had to get there two hours early to get a seat. Nice to see new fans in the sport.

Valid point, but new f1 fans will begin to dissappear if Rb keeps dominating , more street circuit tracks that barely allow any overtaking , and the extreme greed mentality from f1 management.

Another very nice job Kym. As other commenters have said to me, it makes no sense that everyone would snub Andretti as a team. I would love to see Drive to survive cover that without following the median narrative. I saw my first F1 race in person at the German Grand Prix did Jackie Stewart won so I have seen a lot of games that Formula One has played. It would be nice if they would stop playing games.

i used to be hesitant to admit i got into f1 through DTS especially as a female fan. i think DTS is going to do a great job encapsulating all the drama that happened this past season and i really hope they cover all the craziness that happened in the off season omg

I'm from drive to survive but I haven't seen all of it. The scenes that got me were Daniel and Max crashing and post politics.
And it's my 3rd season following F1
I watched the first 2 seasons but haven’t gone back to it. I’ve stuck to enjoying the race broadcasts since, I don’t need the enhanced dramatics to enjoy F1 anymore than I have been for the past 30 years
Even if drive to survive overdramatizes stuff, its still fun to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff

DTS is a reality show and they have made-up drama. I do disagree on why Steiner left. Word I hear is that the performance of the car and the communication issues.

IMO, DTS is not a documentary, but rather a dramadoc 😊
They take clips and audio from other tracks to heighten the drama. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just have to grab a large pinch of salt when watching😊

Everyone I have talked to about F1 this year. Are not happy about the Andretti rejection. I think we could see a small drop at first in the US
So I got into F1 last year but because of Jimmy Broadbent, after I got the bug I watched DTS to have a crash course on recent history. It's a little shocking to binge 5 silly seasons and keep track of who is where.

Wow! Thank you, Kym, for explaining all this. I had no idea how big that DTS actually is. I watched parts of a few episodes and got bored a few years ago. I like racing. I'm not interested in what goes on off the track. However, the results of this year's Silly Season will bring unprecedented changes and problems. 1. Steiner being removed. 2. Lewis going to the red cars. 3. Horner being attacked and doomed. 4. DTS gaining popularity more quickly than actual racing. 5. Entertainment and celebrities at Vegas and Miami (Liberty Media). Those things are at the peak and can't continue. Formula One will slowly decrease until it becomes a Motorsports event, a racing series again. I like both. I like the racing a bit more than glitz for the sake of sensationalism though.
That content won’t feature in this year I suspect. That’s fodder for season 7.
I skipped a lot of the overly dramatic parts of the series and it became fun to watch😄Looking forward to the new season!

Long time fan here. I understand that drive to survive brought a lot of fans to formula one. But i miss when races were actually affected. And all the dts fans are making it very hard for the og fans. No hate towards them though. Thats once again a fia issue i believe…

Max snubbing DTS was a good thing, it made them make up fewer stories, and fewer made up rivalries in subsequent series.

I think the biggest problem for Netflix is to stop waiting until end of year for Drive to Survive and make it a monthly series that’s current because so much happens during the year & to have to wait until the following year it’s out of date by then so @Netflix if your listening change it to monthly episodes during the year your filming !! Your welcome lol 😂
