The F1 purists (bless them) will forever criticize this series for being overly dramatic and misleading etc. But you can't ignore the truth of how important and beneficial the series has been for the sport. I used to watch Schumacher and Hakkinen battle when I was a kid and at some point when going through high school and eventually college I stopped and forgot about the sport. This series re ignited my passion for F1 and I didn't miss a single session of the '22 season. Looking forward to 2023.
As a person that manages fire safety at the AusGP im so glad I get be inside the paddock and mingle with the drivers and teams. Some of the drivers are very nice and glad to have a cheeky photo 😉
Love your BTS of DTS. You're in the ultimate F1 loop photographing the drivers being filmed by DTS but also photographing DTS, who in turn filmed you. Inception!
I’ve been watching F1 since 2010 but I am as well a massive hockey fan since birth since I’m Canadian, from seeing what Netflix has done to F1 I can strongly start to believe the same thing would happen to the NHL if they had their own series like Drive to survive.
This is fantastic Kym. You are a Gem. Drive to survive has certainly taken my casual interest in F1 to a new level. Thanks for sharing this BTS insight.
Drive to Survive is a Formula One reality show for people that don't watch F1. The amount of things they omit or just get straight up wrong is staggering.
Good info Kym. I have been a fan since the sixties. So I go back to the old school cars and drivers. When cars were cars and not computers. I did not need any extra encouragement to become a fan. I've been a fan before it was popular here in the US. I had to get my information on the secondary basis. Because they did not broadcast much of it over here. I'm glad to see that it has grown so much and is popular here in the USA. Looking forward to the new season. Stay safe, stay healthy, cheers mate.
My girlfriend and I love watching your videos. During the race we are always looking for you in the background. We always yell “HEY THERES KYM”!!!! Thanks from Phoenix!
I like the episodes all at once. You can binge watch it just before the new season and cap off the previous season and see what NETFLIX has done for creating excitement/driver arguments.
Kym is on Sky sports more than some of the presenters! Especially Ted's notebook. The DTS storylines are very contrived faction and designed for short attention spans.
Putting Ben Edwards' face over Jennie Gow 💀😭🤣🤣🤣 more seriously though, I hope her recovery continues and she can attend some races or contribute comms this season, she was also a feature of DTS last season.
You should have a million subcribers right now because your contents are so consistent and unique, not to mention you make videos that people want to watch
Many years ago, as in Williams Renault being unstoppable and Nigel Mansell era, I watched F1 quite a lot but drifted away from it. Then DTS came along and I binge watched the first season, that led to finding F1TV and subscribing to it. Then I saw some guy named Kym Illman had a TH-cam channel that was pretty interesting. Pretty sure I haven't missed a Race in 3 years.
Okay you've convinced me to become a subscriber and I will get all notifications of your videos! I have become completely obsessed with F1 racing because of drive to survive.
The hubs was into F1 before but now into myself. Last yr we went to Monza🥰 and this yr is Hungary. I want to experience the European tracks and experience. Love the chanel
Thanks Kym, your video production just gets better and better. I'm presuming your son is still doing it? Looking great. Enjoy your last few days here in Perth before heading out to make us all jealous for another year. Did you happen to get to Stadium Karts at Optus Stadium this year, or would that be a bit too much like work?
My son isn’t doing the videos. I have two other guys that rotate through the work and they are proving to be quite adept. I will have a look at that kart track when I’m back throughout the year. Thanks
Full swing is also a great series- It certainly attracts new fans and current fans have a new perspective of that driver or player - I think it’s awesome for the sport -You know what Kim I love your channel - continue to have the time of your life -
This was great, I saw you in Bahrain last year looking at that Mercedes prototype I wanted to say hello but you seemed busy. I just wonder how much walking you do because in Bahrain I did plenty.
your videos are better than drive to survive kym. you bring knowledge to us, it's more valuable than a documentary that only contain action and casual quotes.
so where we are, DTS is easier to follow than say watching live as most folk will have Netflix at £5 per month where watching racing live is like £33 per month! no wonder its popular!
So what are your thoughts on the deliberately incorrect placement of radio? The over hype of battles for 13th? Or the big stories, e.g. Kimi’s retirement or Interlagos entirely?
Can we just all agree that cameraman just means a human running the camera? Everyone knows women can be cameramen too without explicitly stating it every time. 🤷
7:33 - Most watched series in 33 countries? Is that right? Must be on the documentary section right? More views than top netflix shows (ex: stranger things)?
It's funny to me how older fans huff and puff about the "drama" when they've been creating their own drama on Facebook and Twitter long before the first season of DTS was released. I remember seeing how hateful "fans" were toward Seb during his RBR days. And the constant bickering about Hamilton and calling him all sorts of names. And for what? Because they (and their team) were at the top of their games and winning a lot? So silly.
I remember during season one, Mercedes did not play ball and were present mainly because they dominated the season. RedBull on the other hand have always had a flair for marketing and embraced DTS. I love the series and it simply reinforced in my mind that RedBull leave the other teams in the dust when it comes to marketing!
The Netflix series is very good. But am I the only American who is a little insulted by all the hype? I keep hearing about how the US has finally "discovered" F1. Really? I've followed it closely since the days of Long Beach, which I attended every year! How many people even know there was a Dallas GP? I was there. Cheers Kym!
I am from Texas and nobody knew about f1 before dts now most people at my workplace know …the only bad part is tickets are very expensive and there are too many people on the track .. not as enjoyable as 2016 2018 times
@@KymIllman totally! cant wait, but I wish the episodes were chronological, sequential, accurate, and followed a succinct story arc that's actually true
