  • G'day and welcome to my channel.
    On this episode of Tomo's tune-ups, Tomo has a mates Hyundai Veloster in which he demonstrates how to replace the rear brake pads on it.
    As this vehicle has a mechanical handbrake, it is essential to ensure that you have the proper tools for the job (piston wind back tool) to retract the piston inside the brake caliper. Without this specific tool, it would be rather difficult to push the piston back inside the caliper.
    Always ensure that the caliper slides are cleaned and greased with high temp bearing grease (HTB grease) or caliper slide grease. Failure to do so, will cause the caliper to stick and wear the brake pads unevenly.
    Ensure that ALL bolts touched are tight before reassembling especially wheel nuts (110Nm for most vehicles, depending on size).
    DO NOT push brake pedal all the way to the floor once finished as this will cause the master cylinder piston to travel beyond its normal range of motion, causing the internal seals to become damaged.
    All advice given should be taken into consideration with your knowledge and experience with automobiles. Always consult your workshop manual or professional advice before attempting modifications to your vehicle.

    Thanks bud. Did mine today, followed your instruction. Was surprised the caliper bolts needed to be undone in clockwise direction. After this, all went real easy thanks to your video. Saved me heaps. If an almost 60 year old woman can do it, anyone can. Cheers!

      So glad to hear this video helped you do the job and a job well done. Thanks heaps for your feedback. Be sure to take it easy the next 500kms or so to allow the brake pads to wear in properly. Thanks again,
      Tomo

    On the piston tool what size did you use with the caliper tool

    • @Tomostuneups
      @Tomostuneups  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate, not sure the exact size that was used but it was definitely one of the smaller attachments. Sometimes a pair of long nose pliers is enough to wind the piston back into the caliper if you don’t have a tool available. Hope this helps, Tomo.

    Should you do the brakes on the Valastro? I have a Lastra to, but I don’t have no tools and nothing I’ll get it done at the dealers.

      Hi mate, sorry just to be clear, did you want me to do them for you or were you asking for assistance?

    Do you have a video for the front brakes or is it basically the same thing

    • @Tomostuneups
      @Tomostuneups  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey mate,
      The front is much easier to do and you don’t require a wind back tool like you do for the rear, either a screwdriver between the pad and disc then push it back, or a large pair of multi grips is fine.
      Just make sure you remove brake fluid from the reservoir prior to replacing them otherwise it will spill brake fluid down the chassis and destroy your paintwork!
      Hope this helps,
      Tomo

    Thanks for sharing your videos. What size socket and wrench are you using for the bolts?

      Hey mate, thanks for commenting and I’m glad you liked the video. Depends what bolts your talking about. From the wheel nuts to the brake caliper brackets ranges from 12mm to 21mm from memory

    I will not touch the car because I might have to get a new motor put in in my veloster and now I can’t touch the car is the warranty five years

      Hi mate. Brakes are a wear and tear item, meaning that regardless if you do them or not, it won’t be covered under warranty unless it’s a defective part.
