Got one, love it. OD1 is great for light overdrive stuff, but OD2 really kicks it up! The gain on mine is currently set to 4 with the volume at 3 and the master halfway, you can control the gain with the guitar's volume knob alone...its awesome!
I have this amp. The ISF is much more dramatic live. Great feature. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think millions of guitar players would agree that Marshall amps do not sound like crap. The only way they sound like crap is if they are not plugged in the wall socket (check your plugs). I have a JCM 800 and the tone is monster. If volume is what you're looking for, this thing can take down walls. Many careers and legends have been made because of Marshall amps. RIP, Jim Marshall.
I played on of these today with a G & L tele, absolute crackin sound, real power from such a simple but quality clean channel.... didin get to crank the amp as much as i wanted overdrive wise but i'd buy one now if i had the cash!!
I have the HT-40, & the only gripes I have is the lack of a 'Prescence' knob, & the lack of footswitchable options between the modes. Otherwise, I swapped the stock Celestion '70/80' speaker, & installed a Celestion 'Creamback 65w', & now this amp totally rips! I usually use the amp thru my Trace Elliot 4X12, for added warmth & punch. When I first got it, I was a bit skeptical about the tone, being a Marshall player for so long. I A/B'ed it up against a Marshall DSL40 & a Mesa Stilletto Deuce, & I thought it was way more versitile tonewise than either one of those amps. I also A/B'ed the boutique clean channel up against a Fender Deluxe, & it more than held its own. Great amp.
great demo would you say you can get a blues/blues rock kinda tone like Muddy Waters,John Lee Hooker or The Yardbirds and loud enough to beat a drummer?
I finally sold my blackstar 40 after using it for a year I realized it sounded like my radial hot british distortion pedal. Picked up a peavey JSX for gigs and couldn't be happier.
I feel like this amp would sound amazing with a big muff pedal, and setting the overdrive channel to a lighter gain for a nice crispy distorted tone, perfect for soft rock songs, jazz, blues, etc.
@PossibleSideEffects2 I would have to say yes, this amp can surely hold it's own and then some at my four band practices so I can imagine it can do five. It's very good for small to medium sized gigs as well, it does have a pretty loud voice.
I got this amp shortly after an itsa very good amp. For me it sits somewhere between my Peavey solid state Vypyr and my Marshall jvm all tube. And it sits inbetween price wise too. very good amp for the money
I got mine today. It sounds amazing, super versatile! Only thing I don't like is the latency when switching channels, it's not huge but very noticeable, does anyone else have this or is mine a dud?
I dont know whether to get this or a ht60 would 40 watts really be enough to play at pubs and clubs and stuff? and some cases bigger venues. Just that i've had a shitty mg30 for years so its time to upgrade but really I want to go 50 watts and over so I dont have to get rid of my next amp for a while.
this... or the fender supersonic 22???? I CANT DECIDE!!!! i like having the extra boost options on the ss22 for when my 6 piece band gets drunk and loud, but theres no line out for me to record with like on this one... and this one sounds SAWEET, but i hear its a hybrid?? why do i feel like thats a dirty word for an amp? HELP ME DECIDE!!!!
@PossibleSideEffects2 Depends on type of music. If you were doing a blues jam or blues rock or something, it should be enough. If you're doing metal or hardcore you want at least the ht-60.
zolwikwkurwik Hmm, it could be a few things. A preamp tube may be on the way out. Sometimes, as crazy as it sounds, it can be dust in the amp. Try quickly pushing the voice knob in and out 20 or 30 times and then sweeping the volume control back and forth. If none of those work, it may be time to bring it to a tech.
great demo, i mean i could hear the amp and not endless talking, just go's to show good pickups and a good amp like this and if you cant get it done,,its you. great talent on your plying guys, i saved it for a guitar lesson :)
Some one please tell me what is good amplifier, tubed that is excellent in both metal and blues, or jazz? I have been searching for an amp like this forever and i cant seem t o find one.
@ckfoxtrot Thanks, I did find out they are assembled in Korea...South, I presume. I'd like to get one because the only real gigging amp I have is my '65 Deluxe Reverb relic. It's a great amp but, since it's a classic, I don't want to bang it up any worse than it already is.
the heaviest metal tone i get is full gain, ISF on zero (far left), OD variety switch pressed in...then muck around with the bass, middle n treble...i find that the best metal tone on the club 40 is when the bass and treble are on 100% and the middle is zero, therefore the ISF being on far left gives the full US high gain middle...
@Danstreettssssss i have the 40, its well loud enough to play almost anywhere. even on stages. just mic it up. orr get an extension speaker. thing is the 60 is far to big for home practices so the 40 is perfect ;)
+mont john If you are miced up this thing can do any gig im sure but its named the club 40 for being able to perform good at high volumes and gigs such as clubs and cafes
+Musicistherapy I heard this once before - what guitar did you use? And was it in a store? Maybe speaker wasn't broken in? Looking at the HT-60 Soloist, but most people seem to like them. For $500 the specs are good, not sure what better amps there are at 500... Vox AC10? Roland Cube?
I have the soloist it gets fizzy when you go balls out on presence, but otherwise its a great amp. The speaker doesn't help either its 70/80 celestion, change it for creamback or something and its a whole new amp at a cheaper price than vox or marhsall combo.
Jamie Clark everybody's taste is different. But I would always recommend a Peavey Classic 30 with your favorite pedals. Also the Traynor YGL1 is great. Both are excellent tube amps.
Musicistherapy I ended up with a Blues Cube Hot (30w) and it's great. Light weight, it will last forever, and it will hold some resale value (more than the BlackStar would, I'm pretty sure!) I thought about a Peavey but they're so heavy compared to this Roland, and I tried the Roland 30w (solid state) against the HT-60 (60w tubes) and the volume was very very similar. I don't think the HT-60 got louder at all (maybe with a speaker swap it could?). No FX loop or tone capsules for the Roland 30W version, but it looks great and sounds great with my strat.
@AustinSk84life95 i would go for the blackstar in a heartbeat.... its waaaaay more versatile than the mesa... the tones you can get from the blackstar piss all over even a mesa....
Nice amp, but long term quality is in question. I turned to the back of the amp, and whadayaknow?? Made in friggin' China...NO SALE...bought a Mesa Boogie Express Plus 5:50 at Guitar Center...made in the USA! Dedicated sliding EQ, or use the potentiometers. 5/25/50 watts and a 1x12 Combo...killer...screams and any combination of timbres that you can dream of...
Got one, love it. OD1 is great for light overdrive stuff, but OD2 really kicks it up! The gain on mine is currently set to 4 with the volume at 3 and the master halfway, you can control the gain with the guitar's volume knob alone...its awesome!
I control all my gain thru the volume knob . Old school way to do it )
very proud and happy of my HT 40 !!

got one...play the hell out of it...still goin strong. great amps.
best demo on youtube. you shold make more amp demos like this one. PLEASE!
I played on of these today with a G & L tele, absolute crackin sound, real power from such a simple but quality clean channel.... didin get to crank the amp as much as i wanted overdrive wise but i'd buy one now if i had the cash!!
Getting mine. So soon, I can taste it.
I have an ht-5. It is such a great little amp. I do want to get a bigger model.
I've never really noticed it on mine. I would check out a few others to make sure yours is
working ok.
Is this amp good to hold doors open?
Great reviews ... thank you
the tone at 6.17 is awesome

I also want to change my speaker in ht-40. I'm thinking about british Celestion 75.
great demo

Great demo! Im getting this amp tomorrow

It's very good for small to medium sized gigs as well, it does have a pretty loud voice.
Great Video...I just bought the demo amp from the video. Thanks Kyle!
Schecter + Blackstar = AWESOME!
I've a Schecter Custom C-1. Now I'm going to get this awesome Amp.... :-)
It sounds dang better than any Fender or Vox combo amp I've played.
I like that too... Check it out at around 7:00 I'm diggin that Fender bite. What a great sounding amp.
I got this amp shortly after an itsa very good amp. For me it sits somewhere between my Peavey solid state Vypyr and my Marshall jvm all tube. And it sits inbetween price wise too. very good amp for the money
What mic was used for this recording? Also, what guitar is that at the end? Thanks!
Just bought one, now all I have to do is wait for it to get here.
I got mine today. It sounds amazing, super versatile!

Thanks for posting this. I think I'm gonna buy a Blackstar 40! :-)

Best review I’ve seen! Not just wanking the whole time!
Thanks

Is this amp good for most gig? Also, would it be good for a five man band prActice?
Whats that song at 3:44?
I think he's just riffing but if you want the same chords it sounds a lot like the rhythm and chords of "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Bros.
Fender voice on my clean is working for couple if minutes that gets muted, maybe comes back at later time. Other Voice setting work normal. Any ideas?
zolwikwkurwik Hmm, it could be a few things. A preamp tube may be on the way out. Sometimes, as crazy as it sounds, it can be dust in the amp. What would sound better for rock and blues NOT METAL the blackstar ht studio 20 or the club 40??
What an amp I Think mine is Fantastic !!!!
great demo, i mean i could hear the amp and not endless talking, just go's to show good pickups and a good amp like this and if you cant get it done,,its you. great talent on your plying guys, i saved it for a guitar lesson :)
Can you play gigs with this amp? Like 100-200 people gigs.
is this amp good for doom/stoner metal?
Vilão almost perfect for it
Some one please tell me what is good amplifier, tubed that is excellent in both metal and blues, or jazz? I have been searching for an amp like this forever and i cant seem t o find one.
@BLARGHINATOR No, he plays mosm at the beginning, but holy diver towards the end
@ckfoxtrot Thanks, I did find out they are assembled in Korea...South, I presume. I'd like to get one because the only real gigging amp I have is my '65 Deluxe Reverb relic. It's a great amp but, since it's a classic, I don't want to bang it up any worse than it already is.
nice zz top stuff, ordered this amp!
@zachsquatch25 thats an ESP LTD EC-1000

Can I get a Page´s tone ?
this or a Marshall Jvm combo (of similar wattage etc)
Riff at 1:11 please I've been trying to remember for ages
Tush by ZZ Top
@Langer1995 No it's not, it's Man on the Silver Mountain by Rainbow.
as soon as he started playin holy diver i was like "YEEEEEEEAAAAHHH"
I kinda like these lower priced amps....wonder how gig worthy..???? in and out of cars trucks, playing 2 3 nites a week 4 sets etc??? great tone
+mont john If you are miced up this thing can do any gig im sure but its named the club 40 for being able to perform good at high volumes and gigs such as clubs and cafes
ayy that's my guitar teacher.... hi nate
What Marshalls have you been usng? xD
i have that too man and i agree it is pretty annoying in live situations. but everything else is awesome :)
so does the eq effect the clean channel?
No
Is this amp comparable to a 100 watt amp or is it to quiet
It's loud as fuck
@TheAxeman64 I think Korea (bit better I guess?) Seems like they have pretty good quality
YES!! he played some ZAPPA....only true test of an amp....
I tried it out. Sounds Like a Solid State amp to me. 1 dimensional fizz.
+Musicistherapy I heard this once before - what guitar did you use? And was it in a store? Maybe speaker wasn't broken in? Looking at the HT-60 Soloist, but most people seem to like them. For $500 the specs are good, not sure what better amps there are at 500... Vox AC10? Roland Cube?

is made in korea or england?
you could always mic the amp .
blackstar is the technique from Marshall and they took it to a much higher level (:
If he had 9 and liked not a sigle one I bet he bought the whole MG range.
@AustinSk84life95 i would go for the blackstar in a heartbeat.... its waaaaay more versatile than the mesa... the tones you can get from the blackstar piss all over even a mesa....
It must be your playing
For some reason, i notice fender guitars go best with Marshall amps. I kinda funny to me. Unrelated.
I hate the word 'boutique' applied to non-boutique amps, otherwise, cool.
No, it's not. But that would be a great feature.
Am I the only one that can't hear the difference between the British and American voicings? That whole ISF thing seems gimmicky to me.
Nice amp, but long term quality is in question. I turned to the back of the amp, and whadayaknow?? @GorillazFAN06 Tush- ZZ Top
I like it. Are these made in China? Please say, "No."
That might the Les Paul-type guitar...god I hate those suckers.
Is the voicing foot switchable?
No
