Actually this is a hymn from Sweden. A Swedish Lutheran Pastor wrote the lyrics in the 1800s. Another musician added the melody of an old Swedish folk song to make the lyrics singable. The hymn was translated throughout Europe. How Great Thou Art was noticed in the USA by the Sons of the Pioneers who sang with western actor Roy Rogers. Afterwards the hymn began to appear in hymnals throughout the USA. I certainly would have to say the origins of this great hymn is not at all of a gospel tune - but you do a lovely job playing it in that manner.

And then it was incorporated by the "martyr" for the NSDAP, Horst Wessel, to be the main song of the third reich after 1933, titled Horst Wessel Leid.
