Thanks, Bruce! What a great review! I think the watch sat up a little higher on the wrist because you were being gentle with the alligator - and I appreciate it! Oh, seeing that lovely Seiko Pogue at the JLC event was great, too - it was two of the three of the trifecta!
I got my A386 manufacture revival last year and love it. And it came with an invitation to go to the manufacture in Switzerland and also with the first service being free. Zenith is definitely a brand on the up and well deserved, I wish them only the best.
So many zenith watches that are worthy of being in the collection but to me the quintessential Zenith is a Automatic chronograph with the traditional tricolor registers
Q: Hey Bruce, whats your favorite watch? A: The next one! Just wanna say I really love your channel! Very humble on reviews, a lot of watch close ups and the dialog is so lovely and easy to watch! Keep going!
That is the best dial of all the El Primeros. Just beautiful. I own a 38 mm El Primero, grey dial with grey, white and blue subdials. Lovely, but I'm jealous of the manufacturer edition. I have worn it every day since mid May this year, so yes, I can attest to robustness of the movement. Incidentally, the El Primero is the only one of the three 1969 automatic chronographs still in production, which I believe says a great deal.
Great review Bruce! Love the macro shots. This is an amazing watch - I was super happy to be able to add it to my collection. One thing you did not mention, as a Manufacture Edition, it was originally only available at the Zenith Manufacture in Switzerland beginning in 2020. Then COVID hit and they made it available online for a brief period. Then when Europe reopened you had to visit the manufacture to purchase it. They have now made it available online again. It pairs beautifully with the recently released Chronomaster Original (online only exclusive edition) which has the original blue and two shades of grey subdials together with the 1/10th of a second chronograph movement. My only request of Zenith - please reissue the original Zenith-branded Gay Freres ladder bracelet for these amazing watches.
@@mikaj3945 Really? When I spoke with Zenith customer service, they told me the bracelet for the A384 would not work with the Chronomaster Original despite them both having a lug width of 19mm. Were you able to install the Zenith ladder bracelet from the A384 on the Chronomaster Original? If so, how much was the bracelet? That would be a great addition to the watch. Thanks!
@@melspinella30 It was about $600. The bracelet is the same as the A384 Revival, not sure if it has slightly different endlinks to fit the A386 but it's the same integrated design. Apparently you can get a straight bar end link (as seen in a FT article from 2019) that I think looks even cooler and I'm in process of ordering. Only downside on the bracelet is it has the cheap stamped steel clasp (think old Rolex) that I would have preferred to just have a modern version of. It's the bracelet that we want retro not the clasp.
I love the design language of Zenith pieces but this one piques my interest even more. It all just works with a slight reservation on the date at 4:30. This piece like others proves that you don't have to go all out on mechanical technology to produce an item of beauty that has just landed on my want list. Onto the packaging. In a world where there seems to be so much push to sell items in a small recyclable half decomposed box it's great to see some brands appreciating the presentation box (that is probably just as recyclable, just not ready to be recycled yet). I love that you can get an Omega or some Longines pieces encased in its own slice of a tree and a G-Shock in it's own tin tomb. It just adds to the whole experience but I do appreciate that this adds cost and many would prefer a folded piece of disintegrating cardboard for a few bucks less. I guess brands could/should offer a choice of packaging.
This is the perfect Zenith El Primero for me….my biggest issue isn’t the watch however, it’s the competition. Same goes for the Breitling Pistachio, unfortunately I love the Speedmaster more with its history, case shape etc etc. I love the The El Primero but it falls under the old saying “Love every watch you own, but don’t own every watch you love”.
Amazing review, Bruce. Looking at what Zenith has been doing lately I am quite optimistic about the brand, and I see this reflecting in the prices. You hardly find a Defy Skeleton Titanium being sold at retail today, I think you have one, right? And congratulations on it. Heuer Monaco is a classic, I would strongly suggest, if at all possible, the golf edition 50th anniversary version, for a few reasons: it is a commemorative one, limited production and one of these models appeared in the most prestigious series of recent times, Breaking Bad. Mr. White was presented by Jesse in an unforgettable emotional scene of the drama, but enough spoilers for those who didn't watch it LOL. Some say Mr. White version LOL. Great video, man! God bless you, your family and your home.
That one seems to sit on the wrist a bit weirdly 🤔 Also, somehow the Goldilocks size (probably 40mm) seems to be missing from the Classic Chronomaster lineup.
Really love the new old Chronomaster! I'm really teased by it but I don't really know if any of the dial versions would make me happy long term?! I don't really like the original color scheme you showed here (shame on me) but the 'vintage' edition is just a little too vintagy for me... nevertheless I love that Zenith got back to this beauty! Btw. I absolutely agree regarding the boxes / packaging. I'm soo sad that Breitling nowadays also stepped down a lot in this regard. First they dropped the cool digital guarantee cards, then they got rid of mostly all the manuals and now they even dropped the packaging for some 'sustainable' BS... we all know that in reality they're only saving costs where they can. At least this counts for the basic steel models like the Superocean Automatic. I really like Breitling's new designs and models but you can really feel that they are now also cutting costs at some points. But sorry for the OT...
Awesome piece.. i have the Zenith Chrono sport classic cars 42mm (original 400b elprimero movement), Tudor SG Chrono and the 3861 Hesalite Omega Speedy, what next ? ;)
Zenith is clearly doing some clear differentiation with the products (classic chronos with hours in revival case, new chron o with 1/10th in the classic A386 case. Heard some rumours on next years releases, and I think you'll enjoy.
@@BruceWilliams ok. Good. If it works for you..........PS I have better than 20/20 pilot 's vision and still find them too busy to be read quickly and easily 😀
Excellent review, Bruce! Do you know if one is to buy the watch today, is the original dial still included in the package? That is a pretty sweet bonus to this amazing watch. I looked on zenith’s website and did not see this dial mentioned as being included. Just curious.
To me, the proportion of the dial is just plain wrong. The black outer ring is spaced much too inboard of the perimeter of the dial face. Would never be in my collection.

Including an original dial is one of the coolest touches I have ever seen. Nice video!
Including that vintage dial in the packaging is absurdly amazing. Best packaging I've seen in a long time
It really is

I have owned this model since it was released. It is my fourth tricolor 38mm El Primero and possibly my favourite. A masterpiece.

One of your best videos, keep em coming Bruce!

A beautiful piece, solid value for money and, to me, one worth collecting
I love this design. A column wheel chronograph is satisfying to operate and great to look at!
100 percent!
Another great video, Bruce! 👌🏼🙏🏼
Saw this in person when I went to look at a Globemaster. I left thinking about this one more. The slenderness of it is really impressive
My fav Zenith🤩
Thanks for the review. Zenith El Primero is absolutely gorgeous. A request - Please review one of the Konstanstin Chaykin watches
actually i rewatched ur review about zenith classic defy skeletons today and now this video pop up 😁
Well done bro!
Just beautiful.
Damn, adding the original dial really makes it

You can get the Gay Freres bracelet for this watch, I bought it as an extra.

Had to try and do this watch some justice!
38mm 😍🤤

Try it on, it says 38mm but fits closer to a 39/40, to me it fits slightly larger than my 39mm Rolex OP.

Zenith movements are legendary. But, I find it difficult to read the time on this watch and on your skeleton watch with the integrated bracelet!?
Fortunately I still have 20/20 vision. I find them perfectly legible
@@BruceWilliams ok. Good. If it works for you..........PS I have better than 20/20 pilot 's vision and still find them too busy to be read quickly and easily 😀
Nice, but bothers a bit how the lugs seem to be hanging in mid air when on wrist.
I prefer it this way, optical illusion that makes the overall case seem thinner, otherwise if it was all flush it would be thick like a Tudor BB.
Really kranking out those tunes....hope you enjoyed the turkey yesterday👌

I don't know unfortunately
As seen in the video, it's a surprise gift included in the box in a dedicated slot, had it with mine and assume it's standard.
I’m wondering if the movement hacks and what it’s accuracy is
No hacking in the 400
Can u ask a watchmaker to swap out the new dial with included vintage dial ? That would be cool
I'm sure it would fit. But there is no indexing in the registers.
Any chance your buddy Chris wants to sell this piece? If so please respond to this comment
