I live in Kansas 6b and if there was one plant I wish I could have is a lorapetlum. I have one area in my garden I have thought about testing the boundaries. I’d have to drive south of the border to find one 😜.
Oh, how I WISH I could visit your nursery!! I have learned so much by watching your channel! If ever I am in your area, it's a definite YES to stop by! By the way, you know how y'all sometimes have trouble getting the camera to focus in on something? I may be wrong, or it may be just my camera, but try a gentle tap on your screen where you want it to focus and see if it doesn't focus in on what you want folks to see. It works like a charm on my camera. Take care and Happy Gardening! 🌷🌼🌸
I'm in Charlotte. The deer continually ate my dystilium and for Ed me to move them to safety in the back yard. All deer are different but I would not recommend for those with high deer pressure.
I think that chefs choice rosemary does well in 7b. I see it pretty often. Every spring I also see gardeners filling up their shopping carts with lavender here in the Deep South. It’s pretty much doomed. :-)
Been there -done that, even in the Charlotte area. Aggravates me no end when unsuitable plants are sold at the big box stores that simply aren’t suited to the area.
Thanks to all the people who commented on growing lavender in the south. Would love to grow lavender, but have tried twice and that’s it for me here in Virginia. And, having gardened for about twenty years here, I feel the same as the person who replied about big box stores that carry plants that just won’t thrive in the area in which they are sold. Plants are very expensive now and it’s a big investment to have it fail.
I’ve been watching your channel since you went to Laura and Aron’s home to help with there green house. I am in the same area as you. Mint Hill NC. Love the information you provide for this area. However, I only have a balcony for plants. I think I remember you saying that a relative that is in the same situation and gardens in containers. Could you do a video on the plants that can be grown in containers. Interested in perennials like the new azalea that can grow in pots. Thank you.
I hope you have better luck with the rosemary than I have had. I live in zone 8b and lost my chefs choice in the arctic blast this year. I had replanted it from the previous year which I had lost some but not all to freezing temps. It had been planted on the south-facing side of my home and got plenty of sun. Can’t wait to see if yours makes it. Thank you always for these informational videos.
My sunshine ligustrums froze this winter in zone 8b. I didn't pull them out. I cut them back and within a month they are filling out prettier than ever!
I love your videos😊, we are going to Oak Island NC in next week for a week for vacation driving from Southern Indiana. Im hoping that my husband will be nice enough to see if we can stop by and visit your nursery. Love to buy some plants that we don’t get to see here in Indiana❤❤.
In greenville sc zone 7b sunshine ligustrum is a beast that I have to cut back twice a year to keep it under 4 feet tall and is not evergreen for me and in the winter looses most of its leaves. I’ve have it in the ground for over 5 years.
Thanks for all the great advice. I love all the evergreen choices. What would you put if you wanted a more English garden front landscape but want color interest in the winter as well? I need to redo my front. My house sits high off the ground (1860 farm house with front porch deep and as wide as the house and 8ft wide steps, 8 steps high). On both sides of the railing I have a camelia that is in terrible shape, Azalea that need to go with deep roots and lots of open space.
Hi ..thanks for your videos..they are a great help. ..question I put my new kaleidoscope in a pot ..is that okay? Was looking for accent shrub in a specific spot .. 👍
Hello Jenny. Great video as always. I’m having trouble finding Chefs Choice Rosemary and hoping you have some suggestions. I wish I lived closer to you so I could just pick some up. Thank you!😊
I love that Chef’s Choice rosemary, but I’m in 7a😢. Any ideas for something with a similar size and look that is slightly more cold hardy? Doesn’t necessarily need to flower.
Jenny, little limelight says it’s good for zones 3-8. I’m in Columbia, SC, some 8. Do I need to plant these so they get shade in late day so they will get the pretty color? Thanks for all your good work, advice, and time. 😊❤️🐾❤️
Same question, such a unique color! Though she's wearing it in a video from a few years ago, so I suspect it's an older coat :( I can't find it online anywhere.
What foundation shrubs would you recommend for under a low window with a deep flower bed in zone 7B? The previous owners did azaleas, heavenly bamboo and day lilies but they're all looking terrible. The drainage isn't great and I can't build up the bed because it's already directly under the house siding. Anything out there that loves clay, poor drainage, full sun and stays under three feet 😬
Probably not, mine does the same in South Carolina zone 7b. They should flush back out as the weather warms. You can scratch the bark and look for green also.
Hi Jenny! I found your channel through your visit to Laura and Aaron of Garden Answer and so glad I did! I live in 7a (Virginia, hi neighbor!) and I'm so happy to have found a channel focusing on plants and growing conditions more similar to my own. I love Garden Answer but their conditions are so very different, as you well know. My question for you today is about the Lorapetalum. I have plans to add these to the front foundation planting of my house facing Northeast and along a retaining wall facing South. Would you provide information on pruning? I've seen them sheared into balls but that doesn't seem to be their natural growth habit. I'm aiming for low maintenance shrubs that are the right size for the location. I've chosen Purple Diamond for the front foundation and Ruby for the retaining wall where a larger specimen would be welcomed. Thank you so much for your videos and any advice you can offer!
HortTube with Jim Putnam is also an excellent source on TH-cam. He is in North Carolina zone 7B. He too has tons of videos that's more geared to our zones on the east coast. Check him out! He's wonderful too, Happy gardening
I must see my doctor because I've been infected by Jenny's enthusiasm. 😂
I just love seeing your joy over your "babies " ❤️
I just realized I am right down the street. I’m in Stanley. Definitely coming to visit.
Please do!

Good morning. Cold and windy in Iowa!
Good morning!
It certainly is! Feels like a balmy -6 today 😂 ready for warmth up here!

Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely Nursery

So many beautiful plants! I even got lost! Great choice, I'll think about it now)
🤗I planted my Sunshine Ligustrums on either side of my Grand cascade last Fall. I can’t wait to see them together when the Grand Cascade wakes up.

I've tried lavender twice in Kentucky, Zone 6B. Both times, my plants died despite being in full sun haha. Our soil is just too heavy I think.
I tried lavender several times. I'm in zone 8a, have sandy soil on the southeastern NC coast. Absolutely no luck. I gave up!
Thyme does really good in the south here in Louisiana .

That IS a great idea! Great suggestion Elizabeth! 🌸🌻🌷
Thanks Jenny. ❄️💚🙃

We have found that Sunshine ligustrums respond really well to a late winter pruning. Excellent job my friend!
I just bought the encore azaleas to put in front of my sunshines. Good to know they should not have bloomed yet. 😅 I need to plant them asap.
Exactly what I needed today! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this wonderful video together!
You are so welcome!

Hi 👋 Jenny 🎉❤ Kentucky had snow flurries this morning
Good info. 👍
Have bought quite a few Proven Winner plants this year based on your videos. Thanks for showing us which ones will work in the south
Glad to help!

Hi Jenny 🌺they are wonderful and beautiful plants Have anice day .🌺🦋🌺
Thanks for the info tour, I was actually thinking of adding Abelia to my garden. It’s so pretty with all the colors.
What is the shrub at 4:12 on the right? It caught my eye.
Great video, wishing both of you a great day from a Canadian friend ❤
Thank you! You too!

Super
🎉 great video 💞
I’m in the Finger lakes NY zone 6 b. When you say a plant is zone 6 will it be ok here?
Hello Jenny. Great video as always. I’m having trouble finding Chefs Choice Rosemary and hoping you have some suggestions. I wish I lived closer to you so I could just pick some up. Thank you!😊

Thank you. That’s what I was thinking.
Where is your coat from? Love this the color so springy 🌷
I knew someone was going to ask about her pretty peach jacket. 😊

Hi. I have an extremely small yard space. Would it be foolish to try to grow a black lace elderberry in a pot even if I plan to keep it pruned?
I have the same question. Love the plant, but have a small yard space. Wondering about a smokebush also
I went with the “Laced Up” Elderberry, instead of traditional. Perhaps that’s an option for you?
@@lm8006Thank you!! I didn’t know about Laced Up. I will look into those.
I put mine in a container because I have a small yard. It's been in the container for three years and doing well. Make sure not to let it dry out.
Hey Jenny - my sunshine ligustrum lost all its leaves this first winter - is it dead ? I’m in 6b
Probably not, mine does the same in South Carolina zone 7b. They should flush back out as the weather warms. You can scratch the bark and look for green also.
@@2prettyfunnythings736 thanx ! I’ll be patient then 😬
I have found that they shed leaves every second winter.
I'm so sad today. It's 25° feels like 10° I think I'm going to lose alot of plants. 😢 my hellebore is looking sad even. Zone 6
