    I have worked with the public my entire life. Four years of which were in a greenhouse. When you were explaining your hours I literally made me laugh out loud. It's amazing how something so simple will still confuse some people.

    It seems every spring starlings try to build a nest in our wood stove chimney, somehow they always fall down the chimney into the wood stove, we open the wood stove door open the patio door and out they go. One time I heard one tapping on the glass door of the wood stove asking to be let out. 😂❄️💚🙃

      I used to find dead birds in my basement. They'd perch on the roof smoke stack and fall in. Solved the problem with new flue when roof redone.

    Turned chilly, low 50’s with a vicious wind, here in Williamsburg. Had to take out two trees that were the resident squirrels access to our roof, where they caused lots of damage. Had the stumps ground today and am picking out two new ones, dwarf varieties, one a Japanese maple and one a dwarf crabapple. I was going to wait, but I do believe you are right about avoiding the heat of the summer and getting them in the ground ASAP to give them a few months to acclimate and get a good start. Hard to find a good selection as nurseries don’t yet have a big selection of trees here. And, this change in the weather is challenging too.

    🌷Good morning Jenny and Jerry! So great beginning the day with you and all Creekside friends and family. There’s a wintry mix here in southeast Michigan 🥲 but there are signs of spring hopefully arriving soon. Enjoy the day everyone ☕️💚

    Amsonia String Theory is a great substitute for a grass, because of its wispy texture -- and has pretty blue flowers in the spring -- great fall color, reasonable size, and is amazing in large drifts.

    I'm here in Charlotte. The distylium is the one deer resistant plant in my front yard that the neighborhood herd consistently nibbles down to the bark, so a word of caution. Mine will be moved this spring behind a tall fence in the backyard.

    Looking forward to my spring visit to creekside for summer containers. The 3 spot-on pulmonaria I got from you last summer are very happy. Covered in blooms. I had doubts about them in the southern heat but they are great with drip in woodland shade. Next I’ll try that heaven scent!

    Ah, the difference in growing conditions always fascinates me. When ostrich ferns are happy here they grow to 7 feet tall. They are impressive but 3 feet tall sounds pretty great to me.

    • @GardeningwithCreekside

    • @emmalavenham
      @emmalavenham ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GardeningwithCreekside I think it is important to note that in other parts of the US, like here in New England, the ostrich fern not only naturalize - but can take over a space. When I moved here, I had to pull a lot of ostrich fern - along with oriental bittersweet, and things like garlic mustard...

    Jenny's in her feisty mood today. And I love it.
    I have tried so many times to grow Solomon Seal. My problem is with squirrels 🐿️
    They like to dig up my plants. Maybe there's something they like in the roots.
    I'm going to try again, but this time place hardware cloth on the soil surface. Ha! Ha! Take that, you naughty critters.

      I just saw online my local Ace Hardware sells those mesh bags you guys had a couple years ago.
      Also, been looking on Pinterest for DIY cloche instructions. I picked up a bunch of 6" metal mesh baskets and waste baskets at Dollar Tree. $1.25 for the smaller baskets. I can pin them over seeds I direct plant.

    We planted up to 100 plants last year, I hope to buy a 100 more. I was told that since we planted last year I shouldn't prune anything and let it just grow for one season. We planted over 40 varties of hydreansas ( Prove winner and some other companies), buterfly bush (Pugster Blue n Pink and Missy Molly) many types of evergreens and more. what is your take on this?

    • @GardeningwithCreekside
      @GardeningwithCreekside  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it blooms on new growth then it needs to be pruned before the growing season starts.
