      Pluto has a Bob Barker The Price is Right channel, mostly early 80s. The TVs were $600-$1000 and the VCRs were $3000!!!! Cars were only $4000. So year very few people would have an early VCR.

      I first started seeing it in 1x1 plates with a clip on top. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago, they all had a little circle indent where the ejection was that was perfectly round and perfectly centered and perfectly consistent. Then they started making it flat and off center and it looked like someone scraped a knife along the side of the piece. Now more and more pieces are looking like that and it sucks.

    There is a point I’d like to mention, and you did this with the NES as well. Lego , particularly real object builds, is not meant to replace or be an alternative to the real thing. People who want a real NES or Atari to display will just go out and get one. The argument is never “Do I get the lego one for $250 or the real one for under $50?” The appeal of Lego is the building process and, in this case, see how far the Lego brick can be pushed to recreate a real object. Then you display it and see if your friends do a double take and fake em out. Snd knowing that you built something ,albeit with instructions, that was so convincing IS the point of these sets. If you want the real object, you’re not gonna look to Lego.

    Your explanation at the end about it just being a model that will sit on a shelf and collect dust is my overall feeling of many of the 'Adults Welcome' builds. They are SUUUPER impressive builds, but as an AFOL coming from a large Dark Ages span, I like to "play" and swoosh a little still, albeit differently than I did as a kid. Adulting is hard but LEGO softens the edges for me. IMO, builds should be experiences from the moment you open the box and on. It shouldn't stop at the shelf.
    Side note, some Raspberry Pi and keen micro electronic creators could absolutely mod this set into a working Atari emulator with working ports and controls... but that obviously is not for the average LEGO fan.

    • @joevictor53
      @joevictor53 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Sets like this or the Harry Potter magic objects are for display only. At least with most of the adult sets that came before there was some playability as well. This is how I feel about the new Hogwarts Express set that was just announced. It feels like it's been made only with one type of audience in mind. People with more money who will buy it and display it on a shelf. They could've made it a bit cheaper, had it be smaller and longer, motorised it and kept the display stand. That would've worked similar to the crocodile locomotive and appealed to rich collectors, train enthusiasts, younger fans, people with a bit less money who'd still be willing to spend $300 on a set. They're exclusively going for the rich fans and pricing out so many of us or not making it interesting enough to appeal to us

I can try to talk myself into "well it's like art; recreating an object using a different medium," but ultimately I'd rather spend my Lego money on other sets. Although, I loved Adventure back in the day, so I probably will look to buy that sticker sheet and minifig torso.

    Man, you really hit some excellent points! Why pay the outrageous price for this when you can get the real deal for a fraction of the cost.... and it works! Also, Lego better get their act together on the quality control. Miscolored pieces, heavy mold marks (which I've noticed happening more frequently as well) and mismatched colors on minifigures. You can't call Lego a "Premium" product anymore. And then they go and jack up the prices. I'm really starting to lose interest in Lego.

    I own both Atari the actual 2600 and the lego version. I find the lego version very accurate even side by side. I agree with the missing lock to keep it closed. It would have been nice.... Well back to designing mocs for the cartridges and minis. Pacman is done, working on pitfall, space invaders, break out and combat. Not sure of what others I may do. Possibly Freeway and E.T.
    The black tile quality was a bit disappointing agree. Had mold marks and scratches as if it wax a used set. The joystick cabling connection is weak.

    If they had budget left, why didn't they use that for a few more prints? I'm okay with those on the cartridges (just like the real thing indeed), but not so much with those on the popup room.
    And I also think this is a bit of a missed opportunity: I do kinda like those side builds, but they do add to the price. They could made this a cheaper set with just the joystick and a single cartridge, and then sell €10-15 add-on sets from a whole bunch of games, each with a cartridge and the small build. I mean, I do very much like this set, but indeed it's just a big shiny dust collector and I don't have that many memories of this particular console, so no chance I would spend €240 on it. But those games have a much wider appeal, well beyond just the VCS-nostalgia. I'd see myself buy a bunch of those....

      EXACTLY, I would also add the flower bouquets to the list. What is the value in an overpriced subpar replica of an object when you can get the ACTUAL thing for its real, much lower, price? Lego needs to rethink its strategy in choosing which sets they produce, especially when it comes to display models, focus more on structural builds, where the beauty of the object/structure and the interest in building it go hand in hand, that's where the value lies, not just spending time building a replica of a thing with 0 actual structural beauty/merit, just for the sake of nostalgia or whatever...Just my 2 cents.

      It gives the semblance of unacceptably poor quality control. If they had intended to simulate texture like Mega Construx does, then great. However, they intend for all brown bricks to be brown, light gray to be light gray, etc., so that when something new is built with parts from any number of sets, all is uniform. They charge very high markups for their plastic with the promise that it is top-of-the-line with the best longevity, safety, and consistency possible. This is not that.

    They got the new 90th anniversary space ship on asteroids it looks like. Love the egg on adventure. Too bad the color shades are so off on the browns when the thing costs a pretty penny.

    You know what I'd like to see if they do something like this again? Okay, so, see how those little side vignettes look like they're coming out of a cartridge? I LOVE that. Do a console where it was normal to keep cases, and instead of lots of budget-filling side builds included with the console to make a massive set, make a slightly simpler set with the console, controller, and maybe a few normal discs/carts, then have a separate set with a second controller, more discs/carts, and here's the big thing I would love: game cases that work like simplified versions of the lego popup storybook and *turn into* the vignettes!
    Far fetched? Probably. But they've done equally impressive things with some of these game sets, like the mystery block.

    This set will be perfect for people that don’t want the original console. It’s that simple. Having the real thing is not the same thing… the point is that it’s made out of Lego. It’s a Lego set that looks like the real thing with some cool features. I don’t want the real console. I want the Lego set. And I think a lot of people will agree. I agree with extra sculptures though. Not needed.

    • @Krageesh
      @Krageesh ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... But he does raise a very fair point. While there are people who specifically want this model, who want, need! Lego, it's 240$. And that's a really hefty sum of money. And by all the manufacturers out there and loads of different ways to spend your money, arguing about something from a different view is a good thing. If you want it, you're getting it either way. But putting some perspective on what your money gets you in terms of actual worth, not within the eyes of a fan, not subjectife, but actual value as functionality and so on. Then the real thing is just better, in this case.

    Me: so you like the main design?
    Jang: yup
    Me: and the joystick is better than expected?
    Jang: yup
    Me: and the price isn't that outrageous for 2022 standards?
    Jang: yup
    Me: so then you recommend i buy the set?
    Jang: NO. buy the original 2600 for 1/5th the price!
    Great Review Jang!

    8:14 Hey Jang, when I see those molding imperfections I rotate the pieces so that the side with the imperfections is obscured by other pieces, where possible. It looks like that can be done here. I wouldn't go so extreme as to sand them down.

      Hiding the problem doesn't make it go away, though, and as I stated, these are longer than anything I've ever encountered, even creating a potential clearance/fitment issue if they're *not* on the outside. Also as this video is a product review, it's not in anyone's best interest to intentionally hide quality issues. I could also swap in better-looking parts from my own collection and shuffle miscolored pieces to where they're less visible or try to adjust my lighting to make things look better. It's important that I not do any of that.

    • @LordShrub
      @LordShrub ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JANGsLEGOreviews They definitely could do it better and do it better in some cases. For example the 1x1 tile in light blueish grey is injected from the side while the same piece in sand blue is injected from the bottom.

    I cant see what pieces make up the joystick. I know other brands have those pieces, But I cant think of any lego pieces like that, Looks like a 1/3rd brick height 1x1 with a stud attatched to a 1 wide bar.

    Should have had a second joystick or paddle controller instead of those extra builds. The little scene inside should have been screen capture of Pitfall which was leaked but perhaps they couldn't get the license.

    I think I'd rather the diorama side builds be sold separately. Then if you're into then, you could buy the ones you want.

    • @arcturionblade1077
      @arcturionblade1077 ปีที่แล้ว

      The diorama side builds probably should've been offered as a GWP to go with the Atari set itself to help keep the price down and act as an incentive for folks to pick it up. As it stands, this set is way too expensive and I never owned an Atari as a kid (despite playing it at friends' houses) so this is a pass for me but still a nicely designed set.

    In my opinion I think a taller cartridge shelf with more game cartridges would’ve been preferable to the game side builds. It would be a repetitive build but idk what anyone would do with the game side builds

    I really appreciate that you showed a real comparison with an actual Atari console. Didn't expect that. And I'm with you when considering the price for the value: a Lego build that looks like the console vs the actual playable console for 1/4 the price... Yeah, things to consider.

    It's certainly the interesting deal! Defenitely feel it was overpriced. I understand the need to put emphasis on the nostlagic history this set presents (likewise the Nintendo set released earlier) and they pulled that off quite well but some of these easter eggs and additional pieces really feel unnecessary. However, I will be keeping a keen eye on this one, really solid set, and mind my manners, great review Jang!
