This was in Myrtle beach. It was a tournament for men 25+. At the Cal Ripken Experience.
A home run from that angle must look like it's leaving the planet
nandy9285 you know it’s gone as soon as it hits haha
It does, and it looks incredible how far it goes haha
Yeah....its the worst.
That's about right XD
Oh yes it does, played catcher my whole life...you know it's gone as soon as they hit it...the sound , the swing, the contact...yup see ya
I don’t know why but I could watch this for hours. It’s just so soothing and calm for some reason
It’s weirdly tranquil

Hey I’m your 100th like
Well your name is time machine so...
I know
As a pitcher, I’ve always had mad respect for catchers

Toughest position in baseball. They're like the QB of baseball.
Same. I think I broke my catcher’s thumb on Thursday with a pitch.
Owen Marsh Fells bad man
Who else was trying to react to each pitch and questioned if they would swing at that pitch or not? Man I miss this playing this sport.
Daniel Salcido felt like he was throwing BP except that breaking ball on that last batter
i miss sports 🤧🤧
Ikr
Definitely woulda swung at that one down the middle at the knees. Woulda looked like an idiot on that last one, though.
I've already hit 2 home runs and a double.
MLB needs to do this. I'd pay extra for the MLB package with this content. If not the catcher, a home plate umpire cam would be incredible.
It's coming........believe that!
Gotta get it past the umpire union first.
If i remember right, they did this back in the 90s during games on fox. Was always a unique perspective.
They should experiment in an all star game or during spring training
I’d pay even more to not hear announcers
I don’t even play catcher but I’m pretty sure we can all agree that catcher is the hardest position
Weaboo G to play defensively, sure. But theres a reason why there are very few good hitting catchers
I play catcher 🤦♂️
@Emo-tional that’s why you get the catchers mask, chest protector, and shin guards
@@SkyTheLimit106 and even though most positions are told to wear cup the catcher is the only position where if you dont have a cup can not play
Source: previous catcher
It is the hardest. A catcher position is different than every other player because you have to squat every inning also if your pitcher is not good you’ll end up staying out there for awhile until its 3 outs, you also have gear on that gets really hot after awhile especially in humid/hot weather, when inning is over you and your coaches have to decide whether to keep the gear on or not and if you have to take the gear off all that gear has to be put back on when your team is done batting, you have to use almost the same amount of energy a pitcher use to throw the ball back after every pitch so it’s almost like you’re playing catch with your pitcher in a whole 9 innings, you have get up from where you’re positioned to find a pop fly near you, you also have to keep a eye on runners trying to steal, also have to make sure the ball don’t get pass you if a runner is on 3rd and if you do have a passed ball you have to hustle to get the ball. Not to mention when you throw to 2nd or 3rd you have to throw from your knees for a quicker release to get the runner out. The safety issues of being a catcher.... Getting hit with a bat, baseball ricocheting, also you have to look out for the safety of the ump and batter on wild pitches thrown. Another reason why being a catcher is hard is because you have to be able to handle pain which some people can’t take.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate this guy liking comments after 3 years
God this was yesterday
4 years because 2021 - 2017 = 4

When I was a kid, baseball was my religion. I can still remember the smell of my first glove, a dark brown Spaulding first-base mitt (I was a southpaw). I played through my teens, and then, when a bit older, I switched to softball on my company's team. Then even later, I coached and managed my sons' teams in Little League while playing softball for my church league team. I wound up being President of my local LL. It was an addiction. Watching this video, I just realized, embarking on my eighth decade, that I don't even own a baseball glove anymore. It makes me melancholy to think that I am looking at yet another facet of my life in the rearview mirror.
Poetic. Timeless sport. Baseball keeps us young.
And what is your religion right now?
@@noc9472 Good question. Makes me think and reflect. Much of my energy goes back to young people; my children, my grandchildren, and the kids in my town who want to experience life and learn via Scouting. Engaging and sharing life experiences keeps me going. "Nothing you do for children is ever wasted" --Garrison Keillor
Dude you've lived 80 years stop with the "rearview mirror" shit.
When I'd shake off my catcher in college, he'd throw the ball back to me over 90 mph.
Lol
White Feather no he definitely stood up
Nothing wrong with shaking off a catcher
"Can you believe this sunofabitch, throwing a two-hit shutout and shaking me off...? Charlie, here comes a deuce, and when you speak of me, speak well."
We don’t like getting shook off😂
That POV is something I haven’t seen/experienced, in over 40 yrs! Brings back memories of a much simpler time and place. Thank you for sharing this
Right? I felt like suddenly I was there. I could feel my shoulder muscles twitching...wanting to throw a ball..my hands feeling stronger.. wanting to grip a bat.
I used to play catcher when I was like 9 but I kept getting worse as the other players kept getting better and one time something got on my batting gloves that made them really slippery the bat slipped out of my had 3 times and I lost the game for my team and that’s why I quit baseball
Hell even if I wanted to I probably wouldn’t be able to get any further as a catcher because I’m a lefty
I gave up baseball to pursue my career and man watching this pov from the catcher gives me memories from the best time of my life. Everyone enjoy playing catcher while you can, you'll miss it one day.
Why am I barely being recommend this, but this is so satisfying, the sounds of baseball are amazing
Not as good as skates on ice, rubber pucks colliding with carbon sticks. Mmm love that sound.
Im a baseball player, through and through. So dont get it twisted. Lol
Baseball is a criminally underrated sport, I'm telling you. Nobody has the patience for it anymore.
would be better sounds if this field had dirt, but I still love it
I agree. I love hearing the sound of baseballs.
@John Dunbar The conservatives really do blame Obama for everything lol
What it felt like when I was four years old playing catch with my dad...
Lol

This is possibly one of the most satisfying videos on the internet!
Ahhh catchers...best seat in the stadium! I loved playing catcher. You get to put your brain to work back there with different scenarios
Dave Lo also hardest position in the stadium
@@derekjeter7207 true. Squatting down for those long at bats and long innings. I loved it for some reason lol
Dave Lo for real
My knees would give out after a few pitches
Loved the banter I used to have with the umps. Talking crap to the batters trying to distract them....good times!
*me:* "This'll be easy, the catcher doesn't do anything."

My 2 friends took 2 nut shots in the same game behind the plate, it was insane
@@aidanwalsh9234 Damn. Need to tighten those finger laces 😂😂 R.I.P.
I remember playing catcher when I was like 8 and kids first started pitching. I think I maybe caught 1 out of 10 balls everytime lol.
MLB, please make this view/HP ump view available in every major league game. Every. Single. One.
You'll probably have to pay a premium for it.
William Fuller i’d pay if it was the World Series. That would be an awesome view
@@Wafuller84 Shut up and take my money.
They’re never going to do it. Did you notice how pathetic the umpire was on just 3 outs? This would provide the evidence needed to expose the current crop of MLB umpires for the incompetent pieces of shit they really are.
We ll see robot umps one day.. Might take another 100 years but we ll see it one day
Played catcher my whole life and I always found it to be the best...you're always apart of the game and you and the pitcher work that box together...signaling pitches and showing the pitcher where you want it...I loved it, especially with a hard throwing accurate pitcher...miss those days
This makes me miss playing baseball for my school so much. I can feel the ball leaving the pitchers hand and flying into the catchers mitt every time. This is a great video thank you
Man that last pitch for strike three was absolutely wicked. The batter knew it too
Front door breaking balls are such a bitch.
Slider, wasn't it?
@@jonathanallard2128 Yeah, that looked like a slider to me.
2nd batter strike 3 was outside. Bad call
it was outside.
Catching is so much work! Crouching, calling the pitches, backing up first with all that gear, making small talk with the ump...etc
Only position I never played. As a pitcher, always bought my catcher beers after the game
Wish you were my pitcher!!! 😂
Nice
What a legend🤘
James Zgorzelski how old were you when you played? Lmao

best thing about being an umpire is having a good catcher...makes a world of difference.
Gives a new site of respect for how underrated catchers are.
Oh, there is always something I loved about baseball. This brings back memories...
Oh, i wonder what 80 MPH looks like.
*Flinches at video*
He’s throwing harder than that
80 isn’t even that fast
Doing a 30-second Google search and you'd learn that the pitcher clocked in at 93mph in his prime... This is probably about 85-88mph
75-80 high school. This looks like 85 to 90. A world of difference between the two I used to hit the hell out of 75 to 80 occasionally we would face somebody throwing high 80s it was like BB's coming at you.
82 at least! Lol
My son is in his first year of baseball and plays catcher, 1st, and a backup pitcher. He loves it!
Cool stuff. Thanks for posting this and good luck with your career! Despite your injury setbacks, you are living the dream, so enjoy it! I see this was posted in 2017. I hope you're still playing.
They really need to add this to live telecasts. Best view in the stadium that no one else gets to see.
They’re starting to do that
mad respect to catchers they got one of the hardest positions being expected to perform at a high level
I love that Start me Up is playing in the background.😂😂😂
I flinched every time the batter swung. I've only ever caught - in practice - with gear on once. It was terrifying.
This was my point of view from 8-17. I miss those days
Bud Howell I felt this to a whole different level man. Except I played short stop and center field. Good times.
You mean, you love the days your in right now?
Mine was 6-15 still regret letting it go.
You were the catcher in little league that young? Before high school years You must've been the worst and slowest player on the team if catcher.
NerolNiethsreg someone had to be catcher. It takes skill
The sound of the ball going to the mitt is so satisfying. I just wish there's a chance I could get to play this sport.
Wow what a great view. I’ve always wondered what it look like staring at a serious fastball. I wasn’t good enough to play in high school.
Being a catcher has to be one of the hardest jobs in sports. I can’t even crouch for 10 seconds, let alone a full game.
It’s a little tough at first because your legs aren’t used to it but after that it’s really fun and my favorite position
@@mylesbrown6912 yea it rlly is I play it and now I’m liking it
I always find these POV’s fascinating. You really get an understanding of the talent required to be able to see these pitches and match the speed with your bat. This is just college. Imagine the Pros!
Fabulous. I could sit and watch that all day. Thanks.
Damn this takes me back... I felt that old adrenaline kick in when first batter stepped in the box...
Awesome vid! Woulda LOVED To have gotten to see what Jose Fernandez would have looked like from that angle! Guy was a STUD and my Favorite, Such a Loss!
11 years of catching and I still miss this sight. Amazing video thank you guys.
The one sport i regret quitting when i was a child. Most fun i've had playing any position was easily catcher.

Thanks for that... I was a catcher from 7 y.o. little league, every year through high school and Legion ball. Went Navy after that, then coached... Sure do miss PLAYING the game. Some of my best memories.
Wow this is sooo cool it gets you and idea of what it looks like catching a major league pitcher damn MLB needs to do this they got the money great video
You can hear how much work it is crouching behind the plate. This guy is working. BTW one hell of a cannon there bud!
Catcher for 8 years out of 17 years miss it. Talk about getting to know umpires and players never a dull moment! Good times!
Couple years later and TH-cam recommends this to everyone
I would honestly watch the full game like this
Very cool. You can hear the good timing of the umpire's calls...
Wow. This brought back soooo many memories. I spent 12 years behind the plate. 32 now and can’t remember when my knees didn’t hurt. We never had knee savers back then.
I tried catcher when I started playing baseball man other than pitcher it’s a tough job 💯
Toughest position in all four of the major American sports.
Hands down!
You mean compared to an NFL lineman ? Umm, sure...your story.
Try playing center in football
Disagree with both of ya.
A starting MLB catcher calling roughly 130 for 9 innings. The mental strain on catching different pitchers. foul balls into chest protectors and helmets, blocking baseballs with quick reflexes and pretty much running the whole game.
Ummm...yea, that beats 16 games as an NFL lineman or even an O-line.
:)
@@vijaynair2403 Longer playing career expectancy ? Ummm, yea. Catchers by a long shot.

No problem. Glad you got to see what its like back there. I was always curious too.
Perfect camera angle!
Not really. Chest high would be glove high. The pitcher looks twice the distance away.
I'd love to know how fast he was throwing. It seemed coming in at a good speed but this didn't look like it was in the 90's.
It was high 80's. Lefty strike 3 was 91
@@smashdemm Yeah, that's not going to leave enough time for me to dive out of the way, so I'm out.
3:50 it was off the plate . It was a ball.

it hit the corner
Being a catcher is awesome. Also the conversations with the umps
Having a good relationship with the umpires means calls may go your way more often!

3:46 missed by 6" ump called strike 3 ... lol
DiamondMasters poor lefty guy.
Lmao that was definitely a ball
He didnt want to hit anyway
I thought the same thing at first, so I backed it up and took a second look. It looked like it caught the corned as it crossed the plate. Probably a two-seam Fastball.
Def outside in my opinion. Bad call blue
Miss you, baseball. Thanks for giving me a childhood.
April 7 2019 u tube recommend ds this
No regrets
its so hard to gauge the speed from the helmet cam. Guessing 76-80. Am I close?
It’s hard to tell, I’d say probably a little harder. I face 70s a lot and this looks faster. Maybe around 82-85?
Thomas H.L. 85ish
it's definitely higher than 76-80. The pitcher is a former draft pick. i threw 76-80 when was 15. I'd be shocked if this was only 76-80 and they were having troubles hitting it solid. I'd' say probably 85+
i've caught 90+ and it just didn't seem like it was that fast, must be the cam.@@wildcat31772
Low 80s it seems
Such a cooooool angle/view!!!!!
I could watch this all day!!!!!⚾️
Playing Cather seems tough. I never played the position.
DSC Mamba I do it all of the time but it is kinda hard
Oh yeah yeah
DSC Mamba IT'S NOT EASY!!
It's probably the hardest position on the field. But the pitcher has it pretty hard too...
I might be a little biased, being a catcher, but I think catchers deserve so much more respect. They are constantly getting hit by balls going faster than a car on a highway, throwing people out when they are stealing, getting pass balls and catching pop flys. I’m not saying the other positions aren’t important, I’m saying that catchers tend to kind of get forgotten about when it comes to talking about great defensive players.
Awesome view...Definitely could watch this for hours
Bout time they put a camera on the catcher... should do it in the majors
Thunk! Damn I love that sound. They need to show this angle more when they broadcast mlb
Miss these days, spent 12 yrs back there and its been almost 12 since I stopped but this brings me back
That spring smell never goes away. I usually get wiff of baseball season mid March up here in Virginia. Where is everyone from?

This pace is SO MUCH BETTER! No stepping out of the box after every pitch nonsense. On to the next pitch. Wish the MLB was like this.
Maaaan that light in centerfield is distracting as hell, pitch goes threw it almost every time.

Damn this pitcher works fast. That last backwards K with the inside cutter was filthy.
What's the speed of the pitcher's throw? Absolutely love this view...you can see the movement so much better. I play tennis, and some of my favorite videos are from ground level behind the players...so much movement on the ball. As others have stated, I'd love to see a cather's helmet cam or umpire cam (at least until they replace umpires with AI). Great video.

This is awesome because you almost get to feel like the batter trying to make that split second decision on wether he should swing or not. Would be amazing if MLB did this.
