You could just shed a tear or two listening to this. Simply a gorgeous recording.

Less than 1000 views and no comments in a year. I despair. A great version of a brilliant song. We need more people to have satisfied minds. God bless.

Agreed, it's astonishing. The Byrds were arguably the best band of the entire decade (and the next). This is ground-breaking stuff.

Artists would probably prefer that people bought the record.

The most moving and poignant version is Darryl Scott with Band of Joy. The message is a little muddled in the fast and sing songy lyrics here I feel. Jeff Buckly has a version that goes the opposite way, draws it out way too much.

An unusual take on this classic by Porter Waggoner. This song has a moral we all can appreciate.

Actually, this tune was written by Joe "Red" Hayes and Jack Rhodes - not Porter Waggoner.

@@lumpymcphoomph5717 I think the other commenter might've known, but referred to the original performer.

I was trying to remember how I knew this song after hearing someone play it recently. I feel like I've known iit my whole life. So I consulted the Googlator. Yup. This recording is how I know it (originally). Love the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, and love this song.

So true! I was around that type of superficial, artificial people but not all of them were wealthy. Very, very few are satisfied. One of the Rockefellers was asked how much is enough. He said it's never enough, you always want a little more. The same is true about people in any financial strata. Not all poor people steal because they're needy. Many steal because of greed, just like the wealthy many like to hate and vilify. It's a sad human condition. It was the middle class that Sears initially targeted. Conspicuous consumption became a trend after the early 20th century when the first catalogue was released in 1897. Profits for Sears and other companies became driven by the middle class.
