Same here my fellow Byrds fans --- I'm 72 ---- Bought the Mr Tambourine Man LP when it came out . The whole album is solid and 'magic' with Chimes of Freedom and Bells of Rhymney being the standouts for me. Either song can still send chills up my spine .
I’m 70 and consider myself so damn lucky to have been there to listen to these great artist..I haven’t told my kids that I was blessed to have grown up through three of the best decades of great music..
Citizens of 2024 listen to the words from 1965 and you think you have problems today...the world always throws up issues for folks to deal with....lesson is that people forget the past very quickly...long live the Byrds.

OMG l am 75 and a teen through the 60s and enjoyed the London club scene but all of us thought The Byrds outstripped the likes of The Beatles and The Stones by miles! Hanging on my wall since the 60s is a signed LP cover of Mr Tambourine Man by the entire group. I still listen to them 2 or 3 times a week! As good today
I am 5 years ahead. I only in recent years have delved into the music of those times; when they were happening, I was engrossed in just plain survival and did not have the time or funds to do much more than listen to the radio. Doubtless, the music of the 60's and 70's was far better than anything happening now.
We can thank George Harrison for Roger's love of the Rickenbacker sound. Listening to every song on youtube by The La's lately. Songs not on album too. The Kinks were great too. Roger has a folk song site with several old English, Scot songs. Heard Dylan doing Johnny Todd? Now an Everton song - ZCars.
While McGuinn's revolutionary electric 12 string, his and Clark's voice, Hillman's superb bass, Crosby and Hillman's harmony, and, of course, the songs make the Byrds one of the greatest bands. It's their combined relaxed but confident feel which stands them above most other bands. This recording is a masterpiece of such feel.

The Wrecking Crew only played on the Byrds' first single, "Mr. Tambourine Man", backed with the Gene Clark-penned B-side, "I Knew I'd Want You". When the album was about to be recorded, they unanimously insisted that they be allowed to perform the rest of the album's instrumental accompaniment themselves, which they brilliantly did. The musicians who played on that first single were: Jim (later Roger) McGuinn- electric 12 -string guitar Hal Baine- drums Bill Pitman - guitar Jerry Cole - guitar Larry Knechtel - bass Leon Russell - piano Only three of the five members of the Byrds performed on these two songs: Jim/Roger McGuinn on 12-string, he and Gene Clark sang lead vocals, Gene Clark and David Crosby sang the vocal harmonies. There is at least one fascinating video on YT of the Tambourine Man session showing how the arrangement progressed until it became one of the most influential recordings in pop music history. Yeah, the Byrds version sound better. It's because of the arrangements. Dylan was a genius when it comes to lyrics, but was not a great instrumentalist himself.
True, a great band, but they had an awful need to shorten Dylan's songs - the worst example being "Mr Tambourine Man" of which they only sang one of the four verses.

I first heard this when I was 16 in 1979 listening to the Byrds Greatest Hits album. Even then, as a budding guitarist, I knew it was something special. The whole album moved me.

This was probably my favorite song on the Mr. Tambourine Man album, and I played it a lot in 1966 and '67. In the summer of 1992, I went to see a free concert in the park by a group billed as The Byrds, although the only original member in the band was the drummer, Mike Clarke. They dedicated this song to people who were POWs or war casualties.

I was stationed in Vietnam January 31 1968- January 25th 69 the TeT offense started the Night l landed in Vietnam. Every one would buy their Stereo equipment in the PX Post Exchange. I never did I had an extension cord for my Headphones. And would listen to everyone else Long play vinal albums. This is on of a bunch that where my Soundtrack of Vietnam An-khe and Phu-thi. Plus they played all these groups on American Force RADIO Vietnam. AFVN if you where a Huey helicopter crew. Your ADF resiver was in AFVN taking the sounds of Vietnam with you plus every office work shop every on but the infantry in the Field. Every barracks. Was playing song like this. Grandpa Rich Retired Army Staff Sergeant.

I always loved Chimes and played it sometimes myself. Now it makes me sad, and I don't know what to do. A war in the middle of Europe. "No more war", so we felt to Vietnam and thought of it, and all of our times. But now we see these russian aggression, we never expected. - So I know. Wow Pete Seeger was a hero for Roger McGuinn so he told on his personal tours in the Netherlands. Well Roger is my hero. Thank god I do own a Rick 370/12 RM so I can produce his guitarsound myself. Turn Turn Turn!!! But you do need a Janglebox too! So I did wonderfull now I have his sound! ❤️🎸
Absolutely love the byrds their music inspired a generation of bands years later R.E.M. being one of many the Rickenbacker guitar style is iconic and unsurpassed to this day brilliant stuff!
Classic Anthem for any Generation. So happy I discovered this record early in life. The Truth of this song is eternal. It was just an act of God that inspired the Byrds to make two albums of Bob (Zimmerman) Dylan's inspired writing. In that one simple decade, those creative boys touched the Universe, But it was the recording Engineers. that Einstein'd this this record into the Constellations;-)

If only: if only we could revive a movement toward sanity and peace in this country that defeated the forces of war and hate in the '60's '70's. Music like this was part of it. We need another march on Washington, this time a peaceful one of thousands!

I always loved Chimes and played it sometimes myself. Now it makes me sad, and I don't know what to do. A war in the middle of Europe. "No more war", so we felt to Vietnam and thought of it, and all of our times. But now we see these russian aggression, we never expected. - So I know. This is a song of hope and consolation, and so it should rest in hope and peace, for all of us. I give it to you, freaks and friends. -All the best for you, Paul

Absolutely love the byrds their music inspired a generation of bands years later R.E.M. being one of many the Rickenbacker guitar style is iconic and unsurpassed to this day brilliant stuff!
Classic Anthem for any Generation. So happy I discovered this record early in life. The Truth of this song is eternal. It was just an act of God that inspired the Byrds to make two albums of Bob (Zimmerman) Dylan's inspired writing. In that one simple decade, those creative boys touched the Universe, But it was the recording Engineers. that Einstein'd this this record into the Constellations;-)
Love the byrds. Their music was the best. Lot of bands was influenced by their sounds.this was music with alot of heart.
