  • I invest in a brand new Wood Mizer LT20, and this video is about me exploring the machine for the first time. I have never used Wood Mizer sawmills before, in that respect I am a complete beginner trying to learn how to use the machine to it's fullest potential.

    First time viewer/commentor; as a fellow Electric bandsaw mill owner, (Timbery M100 5Hp electric) I congratulate you on your investment.
    My mill doesn't have all the bells and whistles like yours, but I enjoy the work while not having fumes or the noise of a petrol engine.
    Are you running from the Grid or a generator?
    Cheers from Willamette Valley, Oregon

      Welcome! Happy to have you here :) yeah its super nice not having fumes around me all day. I run it on the grid, its a 3 phase 11kw motor, and it seems to run fine on a 20 amp breaker

    Congratulations! I am considering buying a mill myself. Did you by chance get the extra wide head for your mill ? I plan on doing a lot of slab work, so I was considering the wide head. Good luck with your new mill!

    • @backstromwoodwork566
      @backstromwoodwork566  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joe! No I got the standard model, but if i were to cut a lot of slabs then i think the wide head is the way to go. I will still do most of my slab milling on the chainsawmill and the lt20 will be more of a production saw for dimensional stuff, I’m seeing a small drop in demand for slabs right now and more people are asking for dimensional lumber. Thanks again for your comment :)

    Hi there friend, I'm about to do my first tree work job, I'll do it for free in exchange for the wood, it's a pecan tree, any tips for me? I dont have a alaskan mill yet, I'm considering cutting 2 inch rounds. Thanks!

    • @backstromwoodwork566
      @backstromwoodwork566  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When i first got started i did some jobs similar to what you describe, get free wood in exchange for work etc. But it was always hit or miss i dont do those jobs anymore. If it is a nice tree then it might be worth it, but sometimes it turns out to be bad wood. But thats just my experience, maybe it turns out to be really nice wood. If there is a demand for rounds/cookies in your area then it might pay off. Let me know how it goes. Best of luck to you my friend

      @@backstromwoodwork566 thanks mate, I've seen the tree already, the trunk is about 3m tall and 80cm diameter, I have a video of it, do you have whatsapp or telegram?

      @@backstromwoodwork566 any tips on how to dry the cookies? Just like the slabs? Should I paint it so it doesn't crack? Thanks so much!

    • @backstromwoodwork566
      @backstromwoodwork566  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish i could tell you, i have only cut a handful of cookies and all of them cracked. I think its just the nature of how wood dried that always produce a large crack in cookies, but people still seem to enjoy epoxy so a large crack might be okay. I would still dry them as slowly as possible, and keep it out of the sun

    • @glennwilck5459
      @glennwilck5459 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes dry them as slowly as you can dead trees are the best for cookies because they are mostly seasoned wood
