Testing Out Target's Most Affordable Puzzles. Are They Any Good?

  • From the big pile of puzzles that I picked up from my latest shopping trip, I decided to work on the cheapest of the bunch, which were two puzzles that I picked up from Target. These two puzzles, a 150 count and a 500 count, were from the brand Hinkler, and seem to be the least expensive puzzles that Target has to offer. I unbox both of these puzzles, and walk through my process of solving them while talking about the overall quality and experience. Let me know if you've tried these $3 puzzles from Target!

    I'm older and have been enjoying jigsaw puzzles for many years. My experience is that, if I buy a lot of budget puzzles, their prices will soon add up to a total cost that would have allowed me to buy just a very few really high-quality puzzles. The budget puzzles are often the "one and done and donate to charity" type puzzles whereas the others are the ones I had the best puzzling experience with, and want to keep and to work again.

      I agree. They are definitely one and done puzzles, and for me, it’s much easier to consider them for donation. Usually if I pay more for a puzzle, I mean to keep it in my collection. But these budget puzzles are great for some quick cheap fun if you don’t have too much to spare.

    Hi Mandy I came across your channel last night when I was wanting to find out about the magic puzzles. I really like your personality and love for puzzles and subscribed to your channel. I have loved puzzles for going on 40 years and always did them on the kitchen table. I ordered a puzzle table and sorting trays last night that I'm really excited about and I feel like it will be a game changer. I noticed you telling us about the dimensions on the box and that might be something that I need to know with my new table. Thanks for the tips and have a blessed day! 'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! 😊

      Thank you so much and welcome to my channel 🤗 I used to puzzle on my dining table years back, and it truly is much more comfortable when you have a table/space fully dedicated to your hobby. You're very welcome for the tips and hope my videos continue to help/inspire you throughout your puzzling adventures!

    I have never seen a $3 puzzle at my Target. I pick puzzles strictly on if the picture captivates me. I felt a great deal of empathy when you got “stuck” on the lady. I am currently working on a 1000 piece Ravensburger that looks like it should be easy but it’s making me feel like the worst and slowest puzzler in the country. But I love the picture, nonetheless.

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My Target had the $3 puzzles aisles away from all the other puzzles, towards the front of the store where the seasonal items are located. It can truly boggle your mind when an image you expected to go smoothly throws a curve ball at you. If it's an image that I'm completely in love with, that motivates me to keep pushing through. Hope your puzzle is coming along well!

    price is a consideration, but I don’t want to waste my puzzling time on a junk puzzle that isn’t enjoyable. Thanks for trying these out for us.

      Agree, I’m a puzzle snob now, but I get most of mine second hand off a fb puzzling board. Fab quality puzzles, cheap prices.

    I appreciate that you reviewed these puzzles as I probably would have tried one And been disappointed. Now I'll stay away from them. For the price, I'd rather buy a better quality used puzzle or save up for a better quality new puzzle. I tend to keep and redo my puzzles or swap them with another puzzler. Thanks for another great video.

      You're welcome! I also much prefer the experience from a higher quality puzzle, but it is interesting checking out puzzles from different price ranges. With these cheaper ones, they are good for some quick fun and I'm more willing to pass on to someone else.

    Target online has a pretty good selection of puzzles. Sunsout and other brands. Sunsout is random cut and can be challenging. Quality is hit or miss though and I have frequently had duplicate or missing pieces. Lovely images!

    I have both of these puzzles!!!! The 150 one was not great, all the same issues you had, but it reminded me of a waterfall from the trip I just came back from. I ended up taping it and want to print out the picture and place next to it. The plant babies my daughter got for me and I may end up doing it for the Puzzle Olympics. As far as snacking, I will either have cookies or brownies, OR a glass of wine. Just depends on the puzzle and my mood!! LOL

      The 150 reminded me of a vacation poster, and I had thought it would make for a great display piece. Your idea of putting it up with a picture next to it would work fantastically. Oooo, I love having cookies and brownies!

    Love your coffee mug or the msg on it, Mandy....Hardly working. At least you have the right attitude lol. I got heaps of work I can give you if u like.....12, 000 YT channels to sort thru and approach. That'll keep me busy for 1-2 years :-) I think if I were frustrated, I would've taken it out on the jigsaw and gotten a texta, and painted the woman's hair yellow. Clearly, you have more patience than me. I want everything...yesterday lol It seems with jigsaws, more often than not, as with many things, we get what we pay for. Just an idea, the hold test might work better on the moon where gravity isn't as strong......just thought I'd mention it

    • @thepuzzledmandy
      @thepuzzledmandy  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The other side of the mug says "Working hard", but that day was a lounging day 😁 12K youtube channels to sort through eh, I barely have time for mine 😅
      As for these cheapos, I pretty much knew what I was getting myself into. But I always find it fun and interesting testing them out so that others don't have to waste their time. As for the pick up test, I'm gonna have to start performing them at night 🌙

      @@thepuzzledmandy You get a lounge day....OMG, you lucky woman! lol Yeppers, 12k of them in diff lists. Thank god for Excel which helps me sort thru them quicker yet still will involve a lot of manual work too. Keep me busy for the next 1-2 years, for sure. I guess we usually get what we pay for even with jigsaws. If you like, i have spare set of Werewolf teeth (unused) for when it's a full moon and you might want to howl at your neighbours lol

    Interesting to hear your views on budget puzzles. They are probably fine if you are only doing them once and then passing them on. Thin pieces can be a common factor with these puzzles. I had a puzzle in the past where you felt if you breathed on 🌬it the pieces would shift as they were loose and thin. Basically you get what you pay for. 💷 Good quality puzzles come at a price. No doubt charity/thrift shops would be a good place to look for decent quality puzzles. I do a mix of buying from ebay or new from puzzle shops. We are a picky lot when it comes to what we are looking for from puzzles! 🧩 Look forward to your next video.

      These puzzles are definitely not worth keeping in your collections, and make great candidates for passing along to someone else. I hate the ones that can flutter away with every breath you take LOL. Those Dollar Tree 500 piece puzzles are just like that. But in the end, I try to make the best out of every experience whether the quality is bad or not. I do these kinds of puzzle videos/test so that you guys don't have to.
